Chapter: ~34~ DON’T GO
~Chapter Thirty Four~Kai’s POV Rain was rolling in as I marched across to the hospital where the survivors were, questions weighing heavy on my mind. If Kelvin’s intel was correct about the patrol attack, I needed to hear it from the witnesses themselves. Kelvin had come to me after Elara left the office with something that made me pause. He had gone over the attack report again and noticed something about the crest placement that didn’t sit right with him. It was too deliberate like whoever left it wanted it to be found. To be honest, after hearing that I just realized my pack enforcers had missed something they shouldn’t have. They were always meant to be trusted with the duties of investigating crime, attack scenes properly before reporting back to me. Now if what Kelvin implied was true then someone planted the evidence perfectly to lead everyone to Ironstone. I had doubted Ironstone would attack first when things between our packs hadn’t even reached that point. Yet the

Chapter: ~33~ The War
~Chapter Thirty Three~ Without realizing it, my leg knocked against the wooden door. "Who's there?" Kai yelled from inside. Oh goodness. My heart skipped. Run, Elara. Run. I heard footsteps moving toward the door Yet my feet refused to move. The door opened and it was Kelvin who stood in front of me. "Luna?" He frowned. "Is it important? Alpha Kai isn't in the best mood right now." I swallowed. "Not really... I can come back later." "Wait." Kai's voice came from inside. "Let her in." That, I didn't expect. Kelvin stepped aside, opening the door wider before walking out. I walked in slowly to see Kai behind his desk with several maps and scrolls spread before him. His fists rested on the table, his jaw tight. He looked up with a frown on his face. "Speak." My palms suddenly became sweaty. I hadn't thought this far but I gathered the courage to say something. "Alpha Kai..." I hesitated. "You came back looking upset, did I do something wrong?" He rubbed a hand over his

Chapter: ~32~ FAMILIAR DREAM
Chapter Thirty-TwoElara’s POV Train with you? What was his plan? To keep me here until Kai returned? "What's your plan, huh?" I looked at his face for a minute. "I'm not interested." "Okay." Lucian shrugged. "Then don't bother asking about Sarai." He turned back toward the training area and threw another punch into the heavy bag. Deep down, I needed to know what Sarai's plans were, who she truly was, and who I should be looking out for. Yet trusting Lucian was almost impossible. How did he even know about her? "Alright," I sighed. "I'll join you." Lucian's smile widened, like he'd expected nothing less. "I knew you would." I signaled Nala to wait for me. Lucian tossed me a pair of worn leather training gloves. "Put them on." "I thought I was meant to watch while you talked." I frowned. He chuckled. "You can't even keep your balance and you want to just watch?" "I've never done this before," I glared. "I know." He folded his arms. "That's exactly why we're starting. s

Chapter: ~31~ LOOK OUT
~Chapter Thirty one~ Elara’s POV The heavy footsteps stopped just a few feet away from me. Everything went white. I gasped awake, my lungs burning for air, only to find myself lying back in the bedroom with Kai sitting beside me, concern etched across his face. What the hell? It felt too real to be a dream? "Are you okay?" Kai asked, drawing closer. My heart was pounding fast as I could still hear their voices in my head. How was I supposed to explain that I fainted in a meeting and woke up with a frightening dream without sounding crazy. But why did I black out, landing in a dream all of a sudden when I shook that man's hand earlier? It was strange to start with. I almost wondered if this place was showing me one of its possibilities to teleport you anywhere. "Yes... I'm okay." I swallowed, holding onto my head. "Elara." He held my hands tightly. "Why didn't you tell me you were feeling weak when I asked you to come to the meeting?" "I was perfectly fine. I don't know

Chapter: ~30~ THE HAND SHAKE
~Chapter Thirty~Elara’s POV Kai stepped down from his car and walked straight toward us with an unreadable expression, pulling me into his arms right in front of Zara. This was unlike him. The Kai I knew wouldn't hug me in front of Zara, let alone everyone. For a second, I froze before I gave in to his hug. As we hugged, I felt the cold radiating from his body. Then I realized he needed warmth, so I squeezed him tighter. But I didn't touch the mark on his chest. Then why did his body still feel this cold? Could there be any chance it was never about the mark? "Come," he said, holding my hands. "Let's go." Zara cleared her throat, a wide smile spreading across her face. "It's clear love mates don't even recognize their sisters anymore." I chuckled lightly as Kai turned to her. "I think it's high time you returned to school, big head." He rubbed her hair playfully. "Oh no, I can't seem to get enough of the power couple." "Mmm... you never get tired of your jokes." He smile

Chapter: ~29~ Hidden wounds
~Chapter Twenty Nine~ Kai’s POVElara rushed inside immediately after the car stopped. I could tell she was in a bad mood, even when she tried to hide it.By the time I got inside the room the shower was on with light sobs coming from the bathroom. She was crying again.I could feel her pain hard in my chest, even my wolf was silent, folding in.This was the result from the mark.Quietly, I walked to the door. My keen ears could hear her sniffling. The way she had hugged me earlier, shaking in my arms while I stroked her hair, flashed. A part of me wanted to open that door, hug her again, kiss and tell her everything would be fine.Instead, I rested my head on the door and closed my eyes in frustration because I hated to admit I cared about how she felt and how much her feelings affected me.Was I turning weak for her? Maybe the Elders were right. This isn’t me, I wouldn’t be disturbed over a human girl. The only possible way to ignore her was to get busy with the alliance. Afterall
