Sofia Valenti is good at two things, staying invisible and understanding numbers as an accountant.
As a financial analyst at De Luca Enterprises, she has spent three years being exactly what the company needs, precise, discreet, and completely unremarkable.
Then her supervisor hands her a suspicious account and tells her to audit it.
What Sofia finds in it is the proof of a global mafia network including money laundering routes, shell companies connected to criminal enterprises in twelve countries, and at the centre of all of it, one name, Lorenzo De Luca.
She goes home and tells her friend about what she finds out only to discover that Lucy, who is also a reporter, had released the information in the morning as a cover story. She also revealed that her source works directly with the finance books in De Luca Enterprises.
It takes Lorenzo's mafia partners to put two and two together and go after Sofia.
In the midst of everything, Lorenzo shows up and demands that she be released. The higher ups give them an ultimatum, Lorenzo and Sofia get married to ensure her silence and make sure he protects her from anyone looking for evidence.
Being a well known figure, Lorenzo proposes they act in public, a ruse to make the public think they have an ongoing relationship.
Sofia and Lorenzo grow closer over time as they live together and learn each other's habits.
In the midst of legal investigations and court dealings, the Ferraro family from Naples launches a brutal assault on Lorenzo's empire and takes Sofia as their weapon against him.
