Chapter: CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY-ONE_ CLAIRE’S POV
By the time I stepped into Lucian’s room, the evening sunlight was spilling softly through the windows. The room felt different— warmer somehow. Perhaps it was because he was sitting up now. The hospital bed had been raised and the ventilator was gone. Most of the tubes too, had disappeared. But Lucian still looked pale, bruised and far too thin. But at least he was alive. His eyes found mine almost immediately I stepped into the room. And just like that, the weight pressing against my chest seemed to ease. “You made it back.” Lucian said. His voice remained rough and weak, but still unmistakably Lucian. “I had to.” I walked closer. “You would’ve complained if I didn’t.” “I was preparing a speech.” “I don’t doubt that.” I pulled the chair beside his bed closer before sitting. For a few seconds, we simply looked at each other. Neither of us seemed eager to break the silence. Eventually, I smiled. “The preliminary hearing went exactly how you

Chapter: CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY_ CLAIRE’S POV
The hearing had ended hours ago, yet Eva Sterling’s face still lingered in my mind. Not because she’d won. She hadn’t. Not because she’d managed to manipulate anyone. She hadn’t done that either. But it was the desperation in her eyes that stayed with me. For the first time since I’d known her, Eva Sterling had looked afraid. I walked through Sinclair & Co. feeling as though every bone in my body had been replaced with concrete. My heels echoed softly against the polished floor as I made my way toward my office. The case file in my hands suddenly felt heavier than it actually was. The first hearing would take place next week. No more preliminary conferences, no more procedural arguments. This case was finally going to court. When I finally reached my office, I let the thick file fall onto my desk. The sound echoed through the quiet room. For several seconds, I simply stared at it.Months ago, this file had represented the impossible. Irreparable damage. Lucian’s re

Chapter: CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINE_ EVA’S POV
I wiped my face with trembling hands. No. Enough. I couldn’t arrive looking like this. I took several deep breaths before opening my compact mirror. Mascara, lipstick, foundation. Everything needed fixing. Since I didn’t have any makeup artist with me, I did it myself. By the time the car stopped outside Sinclair & Co… Eva Sterling had returned. Or at least the version of her the world expected to see. ⸻ The conference room was already full when I arrived. Claire, Jonathan Fisher and Laurel Falcon were seated along with several other attorneys. So was the judge and my own legal team. Everyone was already seated. Claire looked up as I entered. For a moment I barely recognized her. She looked exhausted— dark circles rested beneath her eyes. She’d clearly been sleeping even less than even I had. But there was nothing soft about her expression. Nothing uncertain or fragile. Her eyes met mine only briefly, then returned to the documents before h

Chapter: CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY EIGHT_ EVA’S POV
I woke to suffocating silence. For a long moment, I lay staring at the ceiling of my penthouse, listening to the emptiness around me. Today, there was no assistant bustling through the kitchen. No manager calling before eight in the morning. No makeup artist and stylist asking what I planned to wear. No invitations, no flowers. And worse, no scripts waiting for me. Nothing. The silence felt wrong. It felt offensive. I reached for my phone on the bedside table. The screen lit up instantly. There were hundreds of notifications. My pulse quickened. People were talking about me again, it seemed. Finally! Then I saw the first headline. “LUCIAN DHARK REGAINS CONSCIOUSNESS AFTER BRUTAL ATTACK.” My smile vanished. The next notification. “BUSINESS TYCOON AWAKE AS POLICE BUILD CASE AGAINST HART SULLIVAN.” Another. “CLAIRE MOREAU LEAVES HOSPITAL AFTER DHARK’S CONDITION IMPROVES.” Another. “LUCIAN DHARK EXPECTED TO GIVE FORMAL TESTIMONY SOON.” I star

Chapter: CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVEN_ LUCIAN’S POV
The room was quiet again. Too quiet. The steady rhythm of the heart monitor filled the silence as I stared at the ceiling, trying to convince myself I wasn’t dreaming. I was alive, somehow. That last encounter with Hart had been a close shave. Very close. Now every breath pulled at my stitches. Every heartbeat reminded me of the knife he had buried beneath my ribs. I turned my head slowly. Claire was gone because the detective had asked her to step outside while he took my statement. She had looked reluctant to leave. She’d glanced back twice before disappearing through the door. I closed my eyes, allowing myself to see it again. Her face. Her tears. Claire had cried because of me. Not because it was expected. She had actually broken down. I had seen Claire angry. Cold. Disappointed. Heartbroken. But seeing her break down in tears, completely shattered, was always the worst. The detective produced a notebook and a recorder. He offered me an

Lucian was awake. I must have stopped breathing. For one terrifying second, I thought grief had finally broken my mind. He was looking at me! His dark eyes were heavy with exhaustion, clouded by medication and pain, but they were unmistakably focused. On me. Alive. My lips parted before I realized I was speaking. “Lucian?” I squeaked. His gaze softened as he tried to answer. Unfortunately, he could only manage a rasp. His throat was too dry. “Oh…” My hands moved fast, reaching for the glass of water beside his bed. I poured a little more into it, and slipped one arm carefully beneath his shoulders. “Easy,” I whispered. “You’ve been unconscious for days.” Lucian leaned into my support without protest, taking a few small sips through the straw before sinking back into the pillows. “Better?” I asked. He offered a small nod in response. I set the glass down with trembling hands. For a long moment, neither of us spoke. We didn’t need to. The silence

Chapter: Public Knowledge
Olivia woke with a slight headache. Shortly after Desmond’s speech, reporters had also swarmed her, screaming questions about Desmond's parentage. She called for room service, ordering a light breakfast for herself immediately after she got out of bed. Reckoning that she deserved some more rest, she sat on the couch and turned on the TV, ready for some downtime. The news channel showed a ginger reporter, eagerly reporting the events that occurred at the Gilbert Technology anniversary event. “The billionaire tech-mogul, Desmond Wrightwood, took to the stage last night at the Gilbert technology’s anniversary event, to announce to the public that he is the first son of Gerald Gilbert. Additionally, the billionaire mogul made shocking allegations against Priscilla Gilbert, wife of the late Gerald Gilbert and mother of Sebastian Gilbert, the current CEO of the Gilbert empire. The news came after Sebastian Gilbert publicly declared love for his ex-wife, Desmond's rumored girlfriend

Chapter: Gerald Gilbert’s Illegitimate Son
The guests' confusion as they watched Desmond ascend the stage was obvious, but they applauded nonetheless. “Thank you.” Desmond spoke as the applause died down. "As you all know, I am Desmond Wrightwood, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Wrightwood Technologies. First, | would like to thank Sebastian Gilbet for the opportunity to speak freely at this event. He really is a brather from another mother. Quite literally, l must add.” Olivia and Sebastian, who were sitting among the audience, exchanged glances, knowing exactly what Desmond was playing at- “Gilbert Technologies inspires me, truly. In fact, for the first time in my career, I will publicy admit that Gilbert Technologies is the inspiration behind the creation af my company. Gerald Gilbert's vision for the future of technology is nothing short of revolutionary. I am proud to say he that he is more than just an inspiration to me.” Desmond paused, to check if he really had everyone’s undivided attention

Chapter: Sebastian’s Speech
Halfway through the event, Sebastian appeared on stage to give a speech. Everyone in the hall paid close attention as he spoke of his father’s dedication to the future of technology, his personal mistakes, and pledged to further develop his grandfather’s vision of Gilbert Technologies. Everyone immediately started applauding, thinking that the powerful speech had come to an end. Several minutes later, the applause died down and Sebastian continued. “…And finally, I would like to thank the woman who made a man out of me. The love of my life; Olivia. You will always be my wife and my best friend. I love you.” The hall was audibly silent as the weight of his words hit everyone present. “Additionally, fifty percent of the net profit generated from this launch will be donated towards cancer research, in honor of my daughter, Laurel Gilbert. I love you, Laurel.” By the time he was done speaking, the hall was ablaze with applause. Jaws dropped and people exchanged co

Chapter: Jonathan Colbert
Olivia watched, with her breath in her throat, as Desmond strides over to their table, with his confident grin perfectly in place. “Desmond!” Miranda Colbert called fondly. “Miranda.” He greeted, kissing her on both cheeks. “You look beautiful.” Olivia sneered. That was an obvious lie. “Desmond Wrightwood.” Jonathan Colbert greeted, shaking Desmond’s hand. “My favorite self-made billionaire. It’s great to see you.” “Always a pleasure, Mr Colbert.” Desmond grinned. He finally turned to Olivia expectantly, just to be immediately gripped in a hug by Laurel. “I have missed you!” Laurel declared as she clung onto Desmond. Olivia smiled as she wondered where the little girl’s shyness had gone. She was aware that all eyes in the room were on their table. Everyone wanted to get a glimpse of what her relationship with Desmond was like and why they were attending her ex-husband’s event. “I have missed you too, sweetheart.” Desmond said, lifting the little girl off her feet

Chapter: Gilbert Technologies Anniversary Event II
Desmond stared outside the window as the car slowly made it’s way to De Rico hotels, where Billionaires, millionaires and many other important, influential people were to gathering to celebrate Gilbert Technologies' 60th anniversary. If things had happened differently, perhaps he would be at the hotel as a host, not a guest. But it was not to be, because his father's wife, in her jealousy, had ordered his mother's home to be destroyed by fire. He narrowly escaped with his life that evening and knew he had to flee as far as he could. It was only after he arrived in London that he heard news of his mother's suicide. Priscilla was responsible for the tragedy but unfortunately there was no proof. She was finally behind bars for another offence years later, but Desmond was not satisfied. "What are you thinking about?" Rob, who was sitting beside Desmond asked. Desmond had asked Rob to accompany him to the event and being the supportive best friend that he was, Rob agreed.

Chapter: Gilbert Technologies 60th Anniversary
Olivia settled in the car beside Laurel. They were both dressed exquisitely for the anniversary event. The much anticipated day had finally come. “How do you feel, sweetheart?” Olivia asked Laurel. Laurel was adequately prepared for the event, with enough medication and a nurse who would tend to her medical needs. “I am okay. I want to see daddy.” Laurel said. Olivia adjusted the scarf wrapped around the little girl’s head. “You will see him tonight. In fact, Mr. Desmond is also going to be present tonight. Would you like that?” Laurel grinned. “I will like that very much, mummy.” The little girl rested her head on her mother’s arm. “Thank you, mummy.” “Why are you thanking me, darling?” Olivia asked. “For making me see daddy and Mr. Desmond again.” Laurel answered. Olivia smiled at her daughter. “I cannot take the credit for that, my love.” She spoke softly. “They returned because they wanted to see you. Your daddy and Mr. Desm
