Lindsay went to her office and opened her door just enough to squeeze in so Annie could keep as much privacy as possible. Annie looked up at Lindsay. Her face was streaked red from tears. Lindsay arrived at the scene to find what felt like half of her department. Before getting out of her car, she saw Andy, Cat, Viktor, and Annie near Viktor’s personal vehicle. As soon as she stopped her patrol car, Cat began walking toward her with a puzzled look on her face. “What are you doing here?” Cat asked before Lindsay was even entirely out of her car. “What would make you think that I would not be here? You called the department, and they called me. So explain what happened. Cameron was not very clear on things,” Lindsay said. “It’s a little hard to explain. Sheriff Lindsay Gold had spent the day hiking with her son, Dillon, on their property. She wanted to show him that although strange things had happened where they lived, nothing was there now. She had hoped she would be so tired after spending the day in the woods that she would sleep through the night for the first time in a very long time, but it hadn’t worked. She was now sitting on her front porch. It was a beautiful, clear, unusually warm night. It was still technically winter and nearly sixty degrees at almost midnight. She had slept for a couple of hours before being awakened by another nightmare, and was unable to go back to sleep.
