Chapter 3

Penulis: Cammy Winslow
Wesley's POV

Everything changed the day Hunter came back to the country with his daughter, Cassadee.

Teyana, the decisive, cutthroat businesswoman in the corporate world, suddenly showed so much more emotion. She spent less and less time at home, and eventually, she arranged for Hunter to work by her side as her assistant.

Only then did I learn that when she had met me for our arranged blind date, Hunter had gone to Ostosia to get married.

I had argued with her about it, but she just told me gently, "The feelings Hunter and I have are familial. It isn't easy for him to raise a child alone, so please be more understanding."

I thought about getting a divorce, but my parents slapped me across the face.

"If you can't control your own wife, that just means you don't have what it takes. Do you really want to see our family completely ruined? Think about us for once!"

Indeed. What would I even get out of a divorce? Absolutely nothing.

My family didn't understand me at all. So I forced myself to accept Hunter's presence by her side every day. Though I still felt disgusted by it, we managed to maintain a fragile peace.

It wasn't until the week before Miles' National College Entrance Exam that Cassadee led a group of thugs to corner him, intending to injure him so badly that he wouldn't be able to sit for the exam.

Unable to take it anymore, Miles called the police and cursed out Hunter for being a homewrecker. But Teyana insisted that it was Miles' words that had triggered Cassadee's depression, and so she took him to the hospital for gender reassignment surgery.

I stared at the line on the monitor as it suddenly flattened, leaving only a monotonous, piercing drone that rang in my eardrums and shattered the last bit of hope I had left.

"Mr. Glover… we did everything we could. Please accept our condolences."

Regardless of everything, Miles was Teyana's son, and she deserved to know.

I called her. "Miles is gone. If you care at all, come see him one last time!"

The voice on the other end was dripping with impatience.

"What on earth is wrong with you, Wesley? You know my mom's birthday is coming up, yet you're still saying such unlucky things?

"And so what if Miles is dead? I still have Cassadee. Now, if you don't want debt collectors hunting you and your family down again, you'd better keep your mouth shut!"

Because of a homewrecker, my son had lost his life. If I had known there would be such a day, I would've walked away from this marriage long ago.

Miles was dead, but they still had Cassadee. And perhaps it wouldn't be long before Teyana carried Hunter's child.

As I watched Miles' body being wheeled into the morgue, my voice shook. "I'm begging you. Just come to the hospital. Come see Miles one last time."

On the other end, Cassadee's voice filtered through, carrying a broken sob. "Mom… Mom, I'm scared! Don't let them hurt me!"

"It's okay, Cassadee," Hunter said softly. "Your mom has to go home too, but I'm here. I'll stay with you forever."

Teyana's voice instantly turned ice cold. "Tell Miles to stop acting like he's going to die. Look at the mess he caused. I'll deal with him properly when I get back!"

The mortician who was preparing Miles' body looked at me with deep pity. "What kind of mother is that? She'd rather take care of someone else's daughter than come be with her son for one last time."

Not long after, a news alert popped up on my phone.

The headline read, "Packard Group CEO Takes Husband and Daughter to Amusement Park—A Role Model Wife and Mother."

There were a ton of comments below the post.

"She's the CEO of such a huge company, and she still makes time to spend with her daughter. Look at the limited-edition bag in her hand! I'm so jealous of her daughter!"

"Wait, isn't this year's NCEE's top scorer, Miles Glover, the CEO's son? When did she suddenly have a daughter?"

"I heard that this Mr. Leach is her childhood sweetheart, and the son is one born from an arranged marriage. My friend who works at court said they've signed a divorce agreement ages ago."

Wesley's POV"Didn't we get divorced a long time ago, Teyana? Isn't your current legally wedded husband Hunter Leach, the man currently locked up in the psychiatric hospital?" I asked.Teyana froze. She never expected me to actually discover her secret."We… We can get remarried. Let's get remarried, okay? I can't lose you too."Just then, my younger sister, Riley, popped out of nowhere, grinning facetiously as she grabbed my hand."Wesley, you should forgive Teyana. She didn't mean for any of this to happen."I backhanded her across the face as well."I sacrificed my own happiness for you and for this so-called family. My son is dead now, and you're asking me to forgive the person responsible for it?"My dear little sister, you'd better hurry home and see what's going on. Your life of luxury is about to come to an end.""Wait, you have to save me, Wesley! You can't just stand there and watch me get killed by those debt collectors!" Riley cried out.But I didn't care about an

Wesley's POVCassadee, having lost her mind, was determined to take me down.At one point, a group of black-clad men surrounded us.The man in charge looked at me with a smirk."Weren't you quite impressive back in the day, Wesley Glover? How did you even end up like this?""Enough," a man interrupted. "I don't have time to get involved in your messy drama. You promised you'd help me, Wesley, so I'm taking you with me right now."The man who spoke was Bernard Hough, the father of my first love, Erika Hough.Back then, both Erika and I had our unavoidable reasons. I had been burdened by my family, while she bore the responsibility for her own. We were destined to be mere passing travelers in each other's lives. But Erika had been far more resolute than I had ever been. In her attempt to see me one last time, she ended up in a car accident and had not woken up since.I was taken to the hospital by Bernard, where they bandaged my wounds. Biting through the pain, I asked him, "Whe

Third-Person POVTeyana had decided that after Hunter passed away, she would give Cassadee some money and send her back to Ostosia. Then, she'd quietly remarry Wesley without anyone realizing it.Later, when Wesley found out about Hunter's existence, she had enjoyed watching him get jealous. Whenever it happened, she knew she held a place in his heart. But Wesley had suddenly abandoned his usual gentlemanly ways and instigated Miles to bully Cassadee. She didn't want to see their son turn into a tyrant, so she arranged for someone to stage a fake kidnapping to scare them.It had all just been an act, though, so how had things turned out like this? How?Jacintha handed Teyana the investigation results. As it turned out, Hunter had been behind everything. No wonder… No wonder Wesley had told her she'd regret it. He was right. She regretted it now.Karma had been swift. Why? Her first love had murdered her own son. And she herself had washed away Miles' ashes with her own two ha

Third-Person POVTeyana froze instantly. She staggered backward several steps before quickly regaining her composure."What nonsense are you talking about? Didn't he get into Mallard U? It must be Wesley! Wesley went insane and hid him away. That father-and-son duo is just trying to get my attention."Jacintha had never seen Teyana like this before."I've seen Miles' death certificate," she replied, her voice trembling with fear. "A-As well as his cremation certificate…"Panic seized Teyana."What did you just say? Cremation?"She bolted out the door, jumped into her car, and sped toward the crematorium. When she arrived, the staff member recognized her, and his face twisted in contempt."Aren't you the horrible mother who washed away her own son's ashes?""No! That wasn't my son! Those were fake! You people must be working with Wesley to deceive me!"The employee looked at her coldly. "We have surveillance cameras. If you don't believe me, you can watch the footage."When t

Wesley's POV"It looks like you've completely lost your mind, Wesley," Teyana continued. "You need to be sent to a psychiatric hospital for proper treatment right away!"She signaled to one of the men behind her to contact a psychiatric facility."No! I'm not sick! The one who's sick is you, Teyana! You can't even tell right from wrong. Open your eyes and take a good look!"An unreadable smile appeared on her cold face as she reached for a bottle of water."No! What are you doing, Teyana? Stop! Don't! That's Miles, Teyana!"Firmly pinned down, I could only watch as she twisted open the cap and poured the water over the ashes. Not satisfied with just the one, she grabbed several more, pouring them until the ashes and water mixed into a muddy sludge and were completely washed away, leaving nothing behind.A scream tore out of me, and a mouthful of blood spilled from my lips. I began to laugh—a laugh so unhinged that it made even Teyana and Hunter look afraid."I see you've really

Wesley's POVI clicked on the video attached to the news article. In it, the family of three stood together, laughing and smiling. Teyana looked every bit the loving mother. But I felt nothing. It didn't matter anymore. None of it mattered. Miles was gone, and with him, my entire reason for living. Whatever she did meant absolutely nothing to me now.I watched with my own eyes as Miles was pushed into the cremation chamber. The son I had raised for 18 years was now reduced to ashes. As I held the urn containing his remains, someone suddenly snatched it away while I was still in a daze.It was Hunter. The innocent, pitiful expression he'd always worn before was long gone. Instead, he smirked cruelly at me as he casually played with the urn in his hands."Give Miles' ashes back to me! Give them back!"He shot me a meaningful look. "Give them back? And what if I don't want to?"I lunged toward him, trying to grab the urn, but he kicked me hard and sent me flying to the ground. H
