Chapter 2

Author: The Restrained
Thea's POV

Staring at the message, I suddenly felt my entire body relax.

Perhaps this was for the best. There was nothing left for me in this pack anyway. In three days, whatever existed between Ryder and me would be over.

But behind me, Vera spotted me and hurried over with a bright smile. "Thea? Did you come to attend my pup's Moon Blessing ceremony? I was worried you were still angry with me and wouldn't come.

"Thea, I hope you don't blame my family. They only caused all that trouble because they care about me too much. It just so happens my family is all here today. Let me introduce them to you! Once everyone talks things through, everything will be fine."

She linked her arm through mine and led me toward the group, then clapped her hands. "Look who's here!"

Instantly, all eyes fell on me. I watched everyone's smiles freeze and the color drain from their faces.

"Thea, this is my best friend, Talia Stone. She works at the Healing House too. You two must already know each other, right?"

Talia's gaze flickered nervously as she stammered, "H-hi, Thea…"

Her tone was distant, as if we were meeting for the first time.

Vera, completely oblivious, cheerfully pulled me over to Zane. "This is my best friend from school, Zane Thornton. He's the idiot who reported you! But don't worry, I've already given him a hard time about it."

Zane lowered his head, unable to meet my eyes. He mumbled softly, "Thea…"

His voice was so quiet that Vera didn't even hear it.

Finally, Vera brought me to Ryder. Right in front of me, she wrapped an arm around his neck and kissed his cheek. "This is my husband. His name is—"

I smiled and cut her off. "Ryder Jones, Alpha of the Moonshadow Pack and the owner of this villa."

Vera blinked in surprise, looking back and forth between us. "How do you know that?"

I laughed softly. Ignoring the warning look in Ryder's eyes, I spoke slowly. "Because he's my mate. We've been together for five years. In fact, this villa was a birthday gift he gave me three years ago. Didn't he ever tell you?"

Back then, I'd casually mentioned wanting a quiet place to develop potions. He immediately purchased this villa and gifted it to me. A year ago, he claimed the pack was struggling financially, so I volunteered to sell the villa to help.

Now, I understood. That had just been another lie.

"Thea, what are you talking about?" Vera's eyes immediately reddened. "Ryder marked me a year ago. How could he possibly still be your… That's impossible!"

The moment Ryder saw Vera's tears, he panicked. "Vera, let me explain…"

My heart went completely numb. I was the one who'd been betrayed and deceived. Yet, my mate's first instinct was to explain himself to another shewolf.

I let out a bitter laugh. "He has a scar on his lower back. He got it four years ago during a territorial dispute when he took a fatal blow for me. And the Moonlight Charm he wears? I prayed for it at the Moon Goddess Temple… So, you really are the shewolf he was secretly involved with behind my back…"

"Thea, shut up!"

Under Vera's gaze, all three of them interrupted me at once. Ryder's expression instantly turned cold, while Talia and Zane looked at me reproachfully.

"Am I wrong? Ryder, Talia, and you too, Zane. You were all brave enough to do it, but not brave enough to admit it?"

Ryder pulled the trembling Vera into his arms and spoke in a low voice. "Thea, Vera didn't know anything. If you're angry, take it out on me. Don't talk about her like that."

Talia stepped forward, her voice sharp. "Thea, Ryder stopped loving you a long time ago. Vera is his fated mate!"

And my own brother, Zane, finally found the courage to speak against me. "Thea, since you already know the truth, just let them be together. Vera already gave birth to Ryder's pup. No matter how much you make a scene today, you can't break the bond between the three of them."

My family stood around Vera, protecting her. One hurtful word after another was hurled at me. My eyes burned with tears that were about to fall.

"So, that's enough reason for all of you to work together and destroy my reputation in the pack and my career?"

The bitterness and fury inside me surged to the surface. I stared at Vera, then at each of them. "She is the one who came between us, and all of you are her accomplices. Am I wrong?"

Thea's POVThe last rays of sunlight streamed inside, falling across Ryder's disheveled figure. It reminded me of the first time I met him.Back then, I'd been completely confident in my healing abilities. I never imagined Ryder's injuries would be far more severe than I'd expected. Failure after failure nearly shattered my confidence. And yet, he took my hand and comforted me. "Thea, it's okay. It's fine if you can't heal me."The light in his eyes was what rekindled my hope. I gave him everything I had and created a miracle. The day he finally recovered, we held each other tightly and cried. I'd truly believed we could grow old together."Ryder, I can't forgive you."The light in Ryder's eyes dimmed.I lowered my gaze to him kneeling before me, my voice calm. "Our ceremony was a lie. Our pup is gone. And I don't love you anymore. Ryder, we're over—completely and utterly over. We can never, ever go back to the way we were."The day I learned the truth, I'd stood alone in the

Third-Person POVAt last, Vera revealed her true colors, dropping the kind, understanding act. Cradling her pup, she looked down at Talia. "You're just a stray wolf abandoned in the wilderness with no known bloodline. Besides an idiot like Thea who was willing to be your friend, who else would ever want anything to do with you?"The words were a huge blow to Talia. Her eyes turned crimson as she shifted into her wolf and charged at Vera once again.Zane, who was standing behind her, suddenly drew a bone dagger coated with a paralytic and plunged it into the back of Talia's shoulder. "Talia, I'm sorry. I can't let you hurt Vera and the pup."As darkness slowly swallowed her, Talia finally understood what Thea had meant all those times. Thea once told her, "Zane inherited too much of our dad's cowardice and fickleness. Talia, you must not act too emotionally."She finally understood why Thea opposed her rushing into forming a mate bond with Zane. Even on the night before the bondi

Third-Person POVVera shrank back pitifully, trembling all over. The recording showed, in clear detail, exactly how her pup had gone missing. Everyone could see that Thea had nothing to do with it, and the ones who had lost the pup were Vera and Zane. The footage looped repeatedly, captured from a corner of the Moon Goddess Temple."Vera, tell me the truth. Is that pup actually Ryder's?""What does it have to do with you? We broke up ages ago! Forget about that night and stop trying to ruin what I have with Ryder.""I've already secretly traced the pup's bloodline. He's my pup, Vera. I already betrayed my sister for you, now you're going to take away my own pup too? We were together for six years. Six whole years! You can't be this heartless…"The short exchange laid bare the entire tangled mess between Vera and Zane. At the end of the recording, Zane forcefully dragged Vera into a storage room at the end of the corridor. Neither of them noticed the faint cries of the pup they

Third-Person POVRyder picked up the medical report with trembling hands. The moment he read the contents of the report, all the color drained from his face."Thea Thornton. Two weeks with pup. No sign of fetal life."He stared at the words, feeling a chill shoot up his spine all the way to his scalp. He nearly lost his footing. "She was… with pup? Then, the blood on the floor…"Zane stepped closer. The instant he read the report, his face turned just as pale.Hearing that, Talia froze. Her gaze dropped to the basement floor, where a large pool of dark red blood had yet to dry completely. Her lips trembled uncontrollably. She was the one who locked Thea in that basement. She was the one who killed an innocent unborn pup. And the person she had hurt wasn't just her best friend. Thea was also her mate's sister."I… I just panicked… The pup was missing. Who wouldn't panic? It's Thea's fault. Why didn't she tell us she was with pup?"Looking at the two grief-stricken wolves, Talia

Thea's POVThe next day, Ryder came storming back, clutching my moonstone pendant. He yanked me up from beside my packed bags, gripping so hard that it felt like he wanted to crush my bones."Thea, what's the meaning of this? You sold the pendant I made for you? This was our token of love! Have you lost your mind?"I had put the pendant up for sale at the trading market the night before. Since I was leaving soon, I needed travel money.Given his temperament, I'd expected it would take him at least three days to notice. It seemed I was wrong.Looking at Ryder's furious expression, I couldn't help laughing. He had the audacity to say the pendant was a token of love? What love? Whose love?"Ryder, do you think it's fun to treat me like a fool?"Pain flashed across his face, and his pupils contracted. But he didn't get angry. Instead, like every time we'd argued before, he softened his tone. "You already made a scene yesterday. Haven't you calmed down yet? "I admit I was wrong for

Thea's POVBefore I could finish speaking, Talia grabbed the glass of iced water from the table and hurled it at me. Freezing water splashed across my face and soaked into my clothes. It chilled my heart even more."Wake up, Thea! The one who was abandoned is you, not Vera!"As Vera's muffled sobs filled the room, Talia furiously grabbed my arm and dragged me into a room upstairs.I knew the room well. It was a laboratory Ryder had built especially for me as a place where I could work on my potions. Knowing how often I forgot to eat while working, he would personally bring me meals cooked exactly the way I liked. And he knew I was afraid of the dark, so he lined the walls with glowing moonstones…All those little acts of tenderness became part of our daily life. For a long time, I mistook them for love. But now, my laboratory was nothing but a prison, a hellhole used to confine me. Everything we had shared before had been completely erased."He only ever loved Vera as his fate
