Chapter 1

Three years after Vincent Harper and Samara Copeland got married, the marriage was as good as over. Sarama, the woman Vincent had loved and cherished with all his heart, had him sent to prison.

The stench of blood and mildew filled the suffocating air in the prison cell. Vincent curled up on the freezing floor with a bitter, self-mocking smile on his face.

It had been a year since his imprisonment, and he could no longer remember how many times he had been beaten and tortured. But he knew one thing for certain—Samara had to be the one behind everything.

After all, in her eyes, he was the man who had caused the deaths of her mother, Mabel Pearson, and her younger brother, Shane Copeland.

Vincent couldn't understand it, though. Why did the woman he loved so dearly make his life a living hell like that without even giving him a chance to defend himself?

As his consciousness gradually faded, the last things that flashed through his mind were the countless memories he shared with Samara.

He finally learned what love was like. When things worked out, it felt truly wonderful. But when the opposite happened, there was no greater pain.

Now covered in blood, Vincent slowly closed his hatred-filled eyes and stopped breathing.

When Vincent's eyes flew open again, he found himself lying in bed, completely unscathed. The familiar blue ceiling above him left him in shock for quite some time.

Eventually, he bolted up in bed and slapped himself hard, just to confirm that this wasn't a dream. Then, he grabbed the phone from the nightstand and stared at the date on the screen—May 6th, 2024. His heart jolted.

His memories swiftly came back to him, falling neatly in place. He abruptly remembered that this was the very day he and Samara first met. It was the start of their bitter entanglement.

"Samara Copeland…" Vincent had mixed feelings as he quietly dwelled on the name.

In his previous life, he'd been blindly devoted to her in the most self-effacing way. Despite knowing that her heart belonged to another, he'd clung to an unrealistic hope.

He'd willingly foregone his own bright future to be the man behind Samara, using all of his connections and resources to secretly help Copeland Group overcome one crisis after another.

Vincent had done it all because he'd believed that time could change everything. Surely Samara would come to appreciate him one day. But in the end, all he'd received was her indifference, her betrayal, and the endless suffering she'd put him through.

Recalling it now, he let out a soft chuckle, one that contained his relief after letting go of the past and anticipation for the future.

Having been given a second chance at life, he finally understood that the most important thing people had to do was to live for themselves.

At that moment, a knock on the door interrupted Vincent's thoughts. He quickly composed himself and stood to get the door.

Zachary Harper stood outside, dressed to the nines and sporting a smarmy smile. "Dad's rushing us, Vincent. Are you ready to go yet?"

Vincent stared at the familiar face that now repulsed him deeply and sneered to himself. The memories of his previous life came rushing through his mind again.

In his previous life, Zachary was the very person who constantly sowed discord between him and Samara, worsening their already strained relationship.

"I'm not going tonight. I'm not feeling very well," Vincent said quietly, acting like he felt ill.

There was a flicker of surprise in Zachary's eyes, but he swiftly put on a look of pity, though he couldn't hide the smile creeping onto his face.

"Oh, I see… Well, that's such a shame," he said.

Vincent scoffed inwardly. He knew all too well what Zachary truly thought, of course.

Tonight's event was a dinner party organized by the Copelands. Samara would be making her first public appearance as the company's new CEO, and practically every wealthy young scion in Seabridge was clamoring to attend. Naturally, Zachary wasn't going to miss this opportunity either.

Now that Vincent said he wasn't going, Zachary would get even more of the spotlight.

"Do your best to leave a good impression," Vincent said coolly before shutting the door without any hesitation, cutting off Zachary's schemes and excitement, his own gaze turning cold.

As it was, Zachary found Vincent's behavior a little out of the ordinary, but he wasn't in the frame of mind to ponder any further. His attention was fully occupied by the upcoming dinner party.

He happily went downstairs, and a few minutes later, he and his father, Walt Harper, headed off to the dinner party.

Meanwhile, Vincent slowly walked over to his desk, his gaze settling on the computer. On the screen was a game he'd been dreaming of creating. By now, the basic framework had already begun to take shape. But in his previous life, he'd been so busy trying to please Samara that he never finished his project.

Shaking his head, Vincent let out a self-deprecating laugh. He'd been such a fool back then.

However, things were different now. He could finally cast aside all of his burdens and worries to fully devote himself to accomplishing his dream.

His fingers began to fly across the keyboard. Lines of code appeared on the screen like musical notes forming the melody that was his dream.

Vincent's eyes shone with determination. It was as if he'd rediscovered his long-buried passion and drive.

Just then, an email notification popped up in the lower-right corner of the screen. He paused what he was doing and swiftly tapped on it.

"Vince, the Jensens of Javermont are looking for you, and I heard they're offering a handsome sum! I'm guessing they've run into some kind of major technical crisis. If you're interested, let me know."

A gleam appeared in Vincent's eyes. Jensen Group was a tech giant with massive influence in the industry! Were they seriously keen to work with him—and making such a generous offer to boot?

Intrigued, he responded to the email.

"Consider me interested. I'm open to hearing what they want."
