Without thinking, Lyra took a step back. She stumbled as her boot heel caught the edge of the rock, and her balance failed her. A startled cry escaped her as she fell into the pool. Cold water closed over her head.

Laughter erupted from the three rogues on the shore.

Lyra surfaced, gasping, water sluicing down her face and plastering her clothes to her skin. The water, now waist-deep, surged around her as she stumbled backward.

"Stay where you are," she warned. "Don't come any closer."

The rogue grinned, "Oh, so you can talk."

The other rogues behind him laughed. He crouched near the water's edge, studying her with open interest.

"What's your name, little wolf?"

Lyra didn't answer. Fear tightened around her chest as she backed away another step. More than anything, she wished her wolf would finally appear.

But after nineteen years of waiting for it to show without not so much as a voice, she knew it was a long stretch.

If you're ever going to show, now would be a great time to do it. She whispered inwardly.

"Come on," the rogue said. "Get out of the water."

His smile widened when she shook her head.

"We only want to get to know you." The laughter behind him made the lie obvious.

"Stay away from me." Her voice was barely audible.

For a moment, the amusement faded from his face.

"Don't make me come in there."

Lyra continued backing deeper into the pool.

The rogue rose to his feet and stepped closer to the edge.

"I've already had a long night," he said. "The last thing I want is to get soaked because you're being difficult."

His gaze hardened.

"So either you come here, or I'll come and get you. And I'll be furious if I have to come for you, little wolf."

The threat in his voice sent a chill through her.

Lyra's pulse raced as she retreated farther into the pool. The water rippled around her waist while the rogue took another step forward.

"Fine," he muttered. "Have it your way."

He bent down and started taking off his shoes, ready to jump in. Suddenly, a savage growl exploded from the darkness. The sound was so powerful that everyone froze.

For a heartbeat, the entire clearing fell silent. The rogues barely had time to process it before a massive black wolf burst from the trees. The creature hit the nearest rogue with terrifying force.

Chaos erupted.

The remaining rogues shifted and lunged, but the black wolf moved through them like a force of nature. Teeth flashed as growls shook the clearing. Within moments, it was over.

Silence returned.

Lyra stared from the pool, too stunned to move.

The black wolf stood among the fallen rogues, its chest rising and falling steadily. Moonlight glinted off dark fur stained with blood.

The shift happened quickly, the beast giving way to the shape of a man.

Lyra couldn't make out his features clearly. Blood covered much of his face and body, turning him into something frightening and almost unreal in the darkness.

For several seconds, neither of them spoke.

Then the stranger walked to the edge of the pool and extended his hand toward her.

"Are you okay?"

His voice was deep and unexpectedly calm.

Lyra stared at him.

She should have been afraid. The stranger stood before her, covered in blood, his powerful frame illuminated by silver moonlight. Any sensible wolf would have backed away.

Instead, an unfamiliar calm settled over her.

The panic that had been clawing at her chest all evening began to loosen its grip.

Slowly, she placed her hand in his.

The moment their skin touched, both of them froze.

A deep growl, barely audible, escaped him. Lyra felt it too as a powerful warmth spread through her body, racing through her veins and settling deep within her chest. Her heat cycle had just begun, but there was something else drawing her to him. Something she could not bring herself to name.

The stranger's dark eyes locked onto hers. Neither of them let go. For several heartbeats, they simply stood there, staring at each other. The world around them seemed to fade. Only the invisible force drawing them together remained.

He helped her out of the water, and even after she was standing on dry land, an invisible tether kept them both rooted to the spot.

For several long seconds they simply stood there beneath the moonlight, their hands joined as though neither one knew how to pull away. The clearing had gone strangely quiet around them. Even the breeze moving through the trees seemed distant compared to the rapid beating of Lyra's heart.

The stranger studied her face with a look she couldn't quite understand.

"What are you?" he asked quietly.

Lyra blinked.

"What do you mean?"

He shook his head slightly and let out a slow breath.

"I've never felt anything like this before."

The admission surprised her because it echoed exactly what she had been feeling since the moment their hands touched.

The strange pull inside her chest continued to grow stronger.

"It's the same for me," she admitted.

Something changed in his expression.

For a moment, Lyra saw recognition flicker in his eyes, followed quickly by hope and disbelief. It was the look of someone who had finally found what he had been searching for and still couldn't quite believe it was real.

His fingers tightened around hers.

"You're my..."

"Mate?" Lyra finished for him.

Neither of them spoke after that. They didn't need to. The answer seemed to settle between them all on its own.

For a moment, the stranger looked away and clenched his jaw. A visible tension moved through him, as though he were fighting a battle no one else could see.

"What's wrong?" Lyra asked.

He closed his eyes briefly.

"The heat season."

Understanding dawned on her immediately. She should have stepped back. Instead, she moved even closer. The bond seemed to welcome the decision.

The stranger opened his eyes again. Whatever distance had existed between them disappeared. His hand lifted slowly and brushed a damp strand of hair behind her ear. The simple touch sent a warm shiver through her, the look that passed between them making it impossible to look away.

The heartbreak she had been carrying all night suddenly felt far away. The stranger's gaze lingered on her face as though he were trying to memorize every detail.

Lyra didn't move when he stepped closer. She could feel the warmth of his breath now. The invisible thread connecting them pulling tighter with every passing second.

When his forehead touched hers, a soft sigh escaped her lips. The contact felt surprisingly natural. Safe and comforting. As though she had finally found something she hadn't realized she had been searching for.

The stranger lifted a hand and gently cupped her cheek. Lyra leaned into the touch before she could stop herself. His expression softened. Then, slowly, giving her every opportunity to pull away, he lowered his head and kissed her.

The kiss began softly and tentatively. It was as he was asking for permission to continue, and Lyra answered by reaching for him.

The moment she did, something shifted between them. The bond pulsed warmly through her chest. His arms slipped around her waist, drawing her closer, and she found herself resting her hands against his chest. Beneath her palms, she could feel the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.

The world around them faded. The forest, the clearing and the pain of the night–none of it mattered anymore.

Everything disappeared until there were only the two of them standing beneath the silver glow of the moon as the kiss deepened. Both drawn together by something neither of them fully understood.

For the first time since finding Caelan and Vivienne together, Lyra felt the tightness around her heart ease.

She felt wanted, chosen, and seen. The stranger rested his forehead against hers once more, and together they stood beneath the moonlight while the mate bond settled around them like a promise written by fate itself.

The moon shone brightly above the trees; the forest kept their secret. And before long, the rest of the world faded away as he peeled her wet dress from her.

----------------------

Lyra carefully lifted the arm draped across her shoulder and held her breath while doing so. The stranger shifted slightly in his sleep, making her freeze for a second, but after a moment he settled again and his breathing remained steady.

Only then did she allow herself to relax.

The forest was quiet around them. Dawn had begun to paint the horizon in soft shades of gold, yet the full moon still hung above the trees, bathing the clearing in silver light. The grass beneath her was cool, and somewhere nearby she could hear birds greeting the morning.

For a few moments, she simply sat there.

The events of the night felt unreal now.

Only hours ago, she had walked into Caelan's room carrying a basket of honey cakes and dreams of their future together. The memory made her stomach churn. Without thinking, she rubbed her forehead and closed her eyes.

Then other memories followed. Running through the forest, the rogue attack, the black wolf and finally... him.

Heat rushed into her cheeks as fragments of the night drifted through her mind. The strange pull that had drawn them together, and the overwhelming certainty they had both felt when they realized they were mates.

Everything after that felt blurred together. Not because she couldn't remember it, but because it had all happened so quickly. The heatwave had swept over them both, carrying them along with emotions neither of them had been prepared for.

"What have I done?" Lyra whispered.

The words had barely left her lips before her hand drifted to her shoulder.

The moment her fingers touched the skin there, she froze. There was a mark. A stranger had marked her in the heat of the moment.

Her heart skipped a beat as she traced the familiar shape. The skin around it felt slightly tender, and touching it brought another rush of memories flooding back.

She remembered the sharp pain as his wolf teeth sank into her bare skin.

Heat immediately rushed to her face.

Last night, everything had felt natural. The bond had been so powerful that questioning it hadn't even crossed her mind. Now, sitting beneath the clear light of dawn, she could hardly believe she had not only had sex with a man whose name she didn't even know, but had also let him mark her.

Slowly, Lyra turned her head and looked at the man sleeping beside her.

One arm remained stretched toward the place where she had been lying only moments ago. His dark hair fell across his forehead, softening features that had seemed terrifying as he tore the rogue wolves apart.

The contrast only added to her confusion.

Everything about him was a mystery, yet the pull she felt toward him was impossible to ignore. It made no sense, especially after everything that had happened. She wondered how her life had changed so completely in a single night.

A fresh wave of embarrassment washed over her. The absurdity of everything finally pushed her into motion.

Carefully, she gathered the scattered pieces of her clothing and began dressing as quietly as possible. Every few seconds she glanced toward him, half expecting him to wake up and stop her.

He never did.

When she finally pulled her dress back on, her shoulders slumped. The fabric on one side had been torn beyond saving, leaving part of the mark visible no matter how much she adjusted it.

"Great," she muttered.

Her life somehow kept finding new ways to become complicated.

Taking one last look at the sleeping stranger, Lyra quietly removed his arm from where it rested beside her. She waited a moment to make sure he remained asleep, then turned and hurried away from the clearing before she could change her mind.

  • ALPHA KING DOMINIC'S DARKEST CLAIM   CHAPTER 57 - SMALL HANDS, BIG RUMORS

Spring Recess was unlike anything found in the human world. At the Capital Wolf Academy and every werewolf school across the Northern Kingdom, the academic year came to an end in early March. Graduation ceremonies marked the close of another year before students packed their belongings and returned to their home packs for nearly three months. It was the longest holiday of the year - a season devoted to strengthening family bonds, learning pack traditions, and training alongside the warriors and elders who would one day fight beside them. For Lyra, however, it was also an opportunity to bring a little more happiness into the kingdom. She stood in the palace gardens with her hands clasped behind her back, a bright smile dancing across her lips as workers hurried from one corner of the lawn to another. The usually peaceful gardens had transformed into a hive of activity. Hammers knocked against wooden beams while cheerful voices drifted through the spring air. Somewhere nearby, an electr

Lyra woke to the warmth of Dominic's arms around her, his chest rising and falling in steady rhythm against her back. Morning light filtered through the heavy curtains, casting the royal bedroom in soft gold. She turned in his embrace, looking up at his face in the quiet light."Good morning, secret boyfriend," she teased.Dominic's eyes opened, a slow smile spreading across his features. He leaned down and kissed her softly, lingering."I can't believe it's already been six months," he murmured against her lips. "And you're still keeping me a secret."He shook his head, amusement dancing in his dark eyes."So many girls in the kingdom would proudly tell everyone they're dating the king. Yet somehow, you're the only person weird enough to want nobody to know."Lyra laughed, the sound bright in the stillness of morning."I like it this way. Once everyone finds out, they'll make such a fuss." She grinned, mischief lighting her face. "Besides... sneaking around is kind of exciting."She

Caelan had driven his old jeep as far as the old logging road would allow, tires crunching over gravel and fallen branches, until the path simply ended. Swallowed by forest. Then they'd walked.Nearly five miles through woods that grew denser with every step, Vivienne's boots sinking into soft earth that smelled of decay and renewal. Her breath came in white clouds in the cold night air, and her thighs burned from climbing over fallen logs and navigating slopes slick with moss. Now they stood in a clearing no larger than a living room, surrounded by trees that seemed to lean in and listen. The coordinates had led them here, to the middle of nowhere, deep in the neutral territories where no pack held claim. The kind of place where people came to conduct business they didn't want witnessed. They had been waiting nearly an hour now with no sign of anybody else coming.Vivienne wrapped her arms around herself, but the chill had settled into her bones long ago. Beside her, Caelan shifted

  • ALPHA KING DOMINIC'S DARKEST CLAIM   CHAPTER 54 – THE OBSESSION

Caelan woke to cold sheets beside him - again. He lay still for a moment, staring at the ceiling of his room in the pack house, listening to the silence where Vivienne's breathing should have been. This had become their pattern. She would slip into his bed after midnight long after everyone else had gone to bed. Then he would wake alone. It had been months now. Ever since Vivienne returned from the capital, she'd grown distant in ways he couldn't name. He dressed quickly and made his way downstairs, his wolf restless and uneasy. The pack house was quiet this early, most of the pack still sleeping off the Moon Harvest Festival celebrations. The basement computer room hummed with the sound of cooling fans and electricity. Vivienne sat alone at a terminal, her face bathed in the blue glow of multiple screens, fingers flying across the keyboard. She didn't turn when he entered. "You're awake," she said.Caelan crossed the room and pressed a kiss to her forehead. Her skin was warm, but

The late afternoon sun slanted through the tall windows, casting long shadows across the polished floor. The palace always felt too quiet when she dined alone.A servant appeared at her elbow, pouring wine with practiced efficiency.Cassandra paused, her glass halfway to her lips. "Has Lyra not come down since morning?"The servant exchanged a glance with another staff member near the sideboard. "No, my lady. She never came for breakfast. No one has seen her since last night's Moon Festival in the woods."Cassandra set her glass down with a sharp click.

Giving them both time to breathe. When he reached her, he took her hands in his. Her fingers were trembling."Are you sure about this?" His voice was rough, strained with the effort of holding back.
