She knew who exactly he was. The realisation hit her before she could stop it. ‘Of all people…it was him.’ A bitter thought spread in her chest. This perverted wolf. Lucero looked down at the woman with a cold face. Anais sucked in her breath. ‘Was he here to mock her too?’ she asked herself as she took a step back. Fear, indignation, and self-loathing were written all over her face. ‘Was he here to witness her humiliation? To laugh? Her finger curled tightly around her dress, her nails digging into her palm. She forced herself to look him in the eye, raising her chin slightly. She had been humiliated enough, one more person would hurt more. “If you want to laugh…” her voice trembled but she didn't back down. “Then go ahead.” For a moment…nothing happened. Gradually, the pressure increased, as if there was an invincible hand pressing down on all of them. It was heavy and commanding. Lucero looked away from the little woman in front of him. He took in her disheveled state. Her ruined makeup. The handprint on her cheek. He clenched his fist, his gaze darkened. He didn't reply. Instead, his dark eyes fell towards the instigators. Anais mother took a step back, her face pale. She shivered, ready to bolt at any time. Lucero moved his eyes and they landed on Damian. Damian reacted like he had been zapped. He was the one who started everything. He couldn't look Lucero in the eyes. His head dropped to the ground. “Alpha,” he called out. A ripple of Whisper broke out. Lucero’s identity was confirmed. “Is that really him?” “Oh my gosh, I almost didn't notice.” “He changed so much, he’s so handsome now?” “Who knew imthat he would become one of the sons of the most respected alpha. If I had known before—” Anais studies the man in front of her. He used to cower in the corner of the hallway. Now look at him. Power, respect, and fear clung to his body like a second skin. This wasn't the boy she remembered. There was something else about him. Something…overwhelming. His gaze finally dropped to her. And for the first time since he came in, something flickered in his eyes. It wasn't pity, it wasn't amusement, and it wasn't disgusting either. It was something colder. Something darker. Without a word, in one swift motion. He took off his jacket and draped it around her shoulders. His hand lingered longer than necessary. The fabric was warm and large. His scent floated into her nostrils. It wrapped around her, commanding and comforting. It swallowed her own scent effortlessly. “Stay still.” she heard him say above her. It wasn't a request. It was a command. She tensed up. That simple action causes collective intake of breath from the crowd. The whispers grew, this time it was louder. “He just touched her.” “He covered her scent.” “Why would he do that?” “What does that mean?” Fiona in the crowd saw the coat being wrapped around Anais. She clenched her teeth hard. “That bloody slut.” she whispered through her teeth. That should have been her. Who does Anais think she is? Damian widened his eyes when he saw the coat. He looked away, something flashed in his eyes but it disappeared as quickly as it came. Anais continued to stare at Lucero like a fool. She held the jacket but her eyes questioned his action. She was confused and unsettled. “What are you doing?” she asked. Lucero raised his hands, halfway through, he dropped them. “I'm not here to laugh at you.” His voice was low and steady. “But—” she started but he cut her off. Stepping closer to her. “And no one.” he continued, his voice louder for everyone to hear. “No one will touch you.” His eyes swept the room, daring anyone to challenge him. They stopped at Damian. The words settled heavily in the silence. Anais was taken aback. There was something in the way he said those words. It didn't feel like a promise. It felt like a claim. ‘What did he mean?’ Damian clenched his fist. Jealousy burned in his chest. The feeling uncomfortable and overbearing. She was his mate. Even if he had rejected her, that didn't mean that someone else could just swoop in and take her. His jaw clenched. Angry veins grew on his forehead and neck. His eyes darkened as he continued to stare at the jacket on Anais's shoulder. The way she stood very close to the alpha. Covered by another wolf's scent. The tension thickened. Everyone could feel it. They looked from Lucero to Damian. But before the tension could snap, a voice cut through the silence. “What do you think you are doing?” Everyone turned. It was Anais' father. His time was firm, but there was something restrained underneath. Fear. He tried to hide it, tried to stand tall but the difference between him and the man was huge. The man had status, power, and authority while he had none. How could he let this daughter be with a man like him? He was her father, he could do what he wanted as long as it was his daughter. “You have no right to…” his voice decreased with each word. Lucero didn't look at him immediately. And that only made things embarrassing. But when he did, it was a slow and measured movement. His eyes were cold to the point of freezing. The father faltered in his steps. The remaining words were swallowed back. He knew he could talk to his daughter at that moment. Lucero wasn't just protecting her, he was claiming space, taking control of the room. In just a short time, he rewrote the moment. Anais's fingers tightened around the jacket. Standing close to him, breathing in his scent. The weight of his presence from all sides. This wasn't just protection. A strange unease crept up her spine. Lucero ignored Anais' father. He turned to Damian and spat out one word. “Kneel.”“Why does she look fucking better than she had anticipated?” Fiona thought bitterly. Her chest rose and fell rapidly. Her gaze went to her hair. Her very long hair that used to look frizzy now looked soft and very long. She had thought that because Anais never cut her hair or had a proper wash…..Now her long braids looked like luxury. Her gaze dropped and then narrowed at the Expensive heels—they were flipping red bottoms. How could she afford a red bottom heel? And there was no doubt that it was authentic. Her fingers curled. Emma watched Fiona access Anais and then folded her arms. She had seen and interacted with many people. She knew what jealousy looked like. “Hey!” she snapped. “You bumped into her, aren't you going to apologise?”Fiona’s attention shifted. She had stiffened when she heard the authoritative tone. But when she saw the petite girl with big glasses glaring at her she wanted to laugh. She blinked once. Her face looked like “what the fuck?” “Excuse me?” Fiona
Receiving that email first thing in the morning still felt like a dream to her. She raised her hands and wiped her face. When she looked again, the content of the email had not changed. “Fish and chips,” she muttered to herself. Her phone slid from her and fell on the bed. She rubbed her face hard as if to wake herself up.Seconds later there was a knock on the door. She scrambled out of bed. Anaïs paused outside the door to her new office. She had doubted it but the polished nameplate reflected her face at her.—Assistant to the Executive Operations Division.— it said. For a long moment, she stared. It still didn’t feel real. Only a week ago, she had been sitting inside a prison cell, convinced her life was over.Now…Now. Oh my gosh. Somebody pinch this girl to wake her the fuck up! She slowly pushed the door open. The office wasn’t large, but it was bright. Thankfully. It didn't have floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked the city, but it had a very pretty vase of fresh whit
And as for Damian….He stood outside the executive office staring at the list on the phone. His eyes caught his name, he had even been tagged. His jaw tightened. His fingers slowly curled into fists. He knew the other names on his side of the list. Every single person involved was gone. All except him.He should’ve felt relieved, Instead, His stomach twisted. He knew better. He wasn’t helped by the person above because that person had also been fired. Lucero hadn’t touched him because he believed he was innocent.Damian knew, that Lucero knew he was one of them and he was only waiting. And somehow, that was even worse.Damian squeezed his phone until the screen cracked. ‘What was he going to do? Should he just resign?’‘No! Hah. What was he even thinking? Maybe Lucero found nothing against him and that’s why he was only demoted.’Damian tapped his chest to calm himself, reassuring himself with his own thoughts. At almost the same time, fiona had just stepped out of her car. She ad
It was like every other Monday morning. Employees slowly trickled in, some with expectant faces while some had eye bags from enjoying their weekend a little too much.As soon as working hours started…it all began.Judgement. Words escaped the highest executive floor. Employees stood in clusters, whispering nervously to one another. Thirty minutes later, emails were sent out. Everyone had received the same email.—Executive Investigation for Every department—“Fuck.” Someone cursed, scrubbing his face as he read the email. Every manager. Every departmental head was requested to attend a meeting. There was no explanation and no exceptions. Everyone who had been involved in that plan looked anxious, even those who had worked in the company for ages. They all knew that Alpha Lucero never conducted executive investigations. And if he did… the company was about to make a huge change. “What do you think is going to happen?” Someone asked.“I don’t know, but I have this feeling I'm going
Anais slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was the unfamiliar ceiling. She blinked twice, waiting as the memories of the last night came back to her. She turned to the side to see the man with his eyes shut, and a frown settled between his brows. She raised her hand instinctively. She almost touched his brows when she pulled back. With a sigh, she removed his hand from her waist and crawled out of bed. She closed the door softly behind her. ….Lucero wasn’t sure what woke him. His eyes suddenly sprang open. For a moment everything felt peaceful. He stared at the ceiling. Then his arm brushed against the empty side of the bed.It was cold. There was no one. His brows knitted together. He sat up immediately, looking around. “…Anaïs?”Silence. He was the only one in the room. ‘Was she in the bathroom?’ He thought. The bathroom door was slightly open, but there was no sound coming from inside. His heartbeat accelerated. He started to feel it. The familiar pressure beneat
The room felt colder than before. With the new thing around, it looked like a hotel room instead of a home. Her eyes wandered slowly around the room, until they stopped at the painting. It still hung above the fireplace. The woman with long golden hair. The broken heart on her shoulders. Her back forever turned toward whoever looked at her.Everything else had changed. Only that painting remained.“…You redecorated? Why?” She asked. She kind of liked the old style better. Lucero stopped for a second. Then he loosened the cuffs of his shirt.“I got tired of the old style.”She nodded slowly. Rich people and rich issues. “I think the previous one looked nicer.” Then her eyes drifted back to the painting. “You changed everything but this one.” She pointed at the painting. Lucero followed her gaze. Silence settled between them. “If it makes you uncomfortable…” he said after a while, “…I’ll move it to my study.”Anaïs looked at him startled.“No.” She shook her head immediately. “This

Chapter 5 “Kneel.” The words fell into the hall like a command from above. The pressure was so powerful that the weaker wolves also fell to their knees, while the strong ones could barely remain standing. The weight of the word settled. Gasps rang out across the hall. The elders stiffened. The
Chapter 2Damian stopped in front of her. He opens his eyes. His face twisted in disgust.“The fuck?” he muttered to himself but it was loud enough for everyone to hear. “Why her?” As soon as he spat out these words the whole room froze. Then their faces curved with mixed reactions. They began to
"What the fuck? Why her?" His voice echoed through the silent hall. Hundreds of mocking eyes turned toward Anais. Her Destined mate was staring at her like she was dirt stuck to his shoe.
