VAELORA tried to breathe, struggling to come to terms with her new reality.

"No..."

The word slipped out of her lips. A tiny whisper.

"No!!" The words came out much more loudly this time.

The entire arena had gone silent, both races watching with deep curiosity and high level awareness of what had just happened.

Alpha king Draekon's beast had just claimed its second chance mate and soulbound.

Shocking.

Draekon was supposed to pick one of the seven noble DragonBorn females they were just about presenting to him, as his chosen soulbound, to finally seal the pact between both kingdoms.

Now, that wasn't going to happen, because a certain she-wolf had suddenly appeared as his mate.

Draekon looked ahead and saw his brother running towards them.

"Vaelora!" Zayn called again, looking very worried as he approached them.

Draekon's eyebrows kissed each other in further confusion. What was really going on?

"Lora! Are you okay?" Zayn held her shoulders from behind, as her cries increased.

In that moment, it occured to Draekon that she had already been in tears before she appeared at the arena.

"What's going on, Zayn?" Draekon demanded in a clipped tone, his eyes getting darker with the annoyance of being so confused in such a serious situation.

"Where is Dione?" he added.

Zayn looked up at him and muttered flatly. "Busy dealing with the pain of rejection after being caught cheating."

She shock of that revelation was palpable on Draekon's face.

"Come, Lora. Let's leave here," Zayn whispered to Vaelora, still not having an idea of what had happened in the arena seconds before he arrived.

Draekon watched them leave as the tiny whispers in the arena combined into a loud congregation around him.

Just as Vaelora took more steps away with Zayn, her head began to feel heavy and her legs suddenly feeling too weak to carry her.

They eventually gave up on her, and she fell towards the tilting earth, lucky enough to have had Zayn's tight grip around her waist.

As she lost consciousness, the frightened voice of Zayn accompanied her into darkness.

*********FLASHBACK**********

NINE YEARS AGO.

It was Vaelora’s birthday. Her sixteenth.

It was a very important milestone for her, seeing as she had finally come of age to be enrolled in the Vexley Keep Academy.

The glorified academy known for shaping noble born werewolves into worthy successors of their parent's titles.

As the only child of her father, Vaelora had always longed to take after her father as the Royal Beta of the Iron-Vale province.

But sometimes, she felt like Beta Hugo wished for a son instead. Maybe a son would have carried on his legacy better.

Her father had always tried to make her feel like she was enough. But that was until yesterday...

Excited that her most anticipated birthday had finally come, Vaelora stood at the living room with her bestfriend, Zayn, welcoming the guests who had started arriving in different groups for her birthday party.

Everything had been going quite smoothly, until they heard a loud crash from the kitchen. She froze for a brief moment, before rushing to the kitchen.

And there it was. Her birthday cake on the floor, squashed and destroyed.

Vaelora stared at the only two people who had been in the kitchen before she arrived.

Draekon and Dione.

Tears clogged her eyes as she stared at the only person who could have perpetrated such wickedness. Draekon.

"Calm down. It's just a cake," he said nonchalantly, no sign of remorse whatsoever.

Everyone knew how important this day was for her. And then Draekon went ahead to ruin it like he always did.

Just the other week, he had suddenly appeared as one of the coaches in the quarterly sword and fist fight training for noble borns.

What she just hadn't expected, was to be paired with him. Of course, the training course hadn't ended without him making her dislocate her knee.

Being more experienced than she was, Draekon could have prevented her from taking that wrong step that made her sustain the ugly injury.

But no. He simply watched Vaelora misstep into her doom, muttering the most unfeeling words as she cried in pains.

"Suck it up, Vaelora. It's just a sprain."

A 'sprain' that currently left her in a cast.

Now without thinking, she rushed at him in anger, not minding that her injury hurt as she jumped up to his ridiculously giant height.

Pouncing on him, her weak thighs tried to firmly hold onto his waist as she pulled his hair, hurling insults at him.

"Fight me, you monster!" she cried, angry at how composed he remained.

"Get her off of me." A cold mockful chuckle escaped his lips, making her tears even hotter.

Zayn pulled her by the waist immediately, and Beta Hugo appeared at the scene with Alpha Noir.

She tried lunging at Draekon once more, when her dad intervened.

"Behave yourself, Vaelora!"

"He smashed my cake! Made me dislocate my knee!!" she lashed out angrily.

She was still trying to lunge at Draekon, when Beta Hugo's next words stopped her right in her tracks.

"He did nothing, you're just too weak!"

His words hit her, cold as ice.

Vaelora paused for a moment, still in disbelief that her father could say that to her. The entire place fell silent, and her eyes locked onto Beta Hugo's teary ones.

She knew he didn't mean those words, but he said it anyways. And it hurt so bad.

Taking slow steps, she walked out of the kitchen and made for her room. Her birthday had been officially ruined, and it was all thanks to Draekon.

Just as she got to the stairs, her head suddenly felt so hot and heavy. She felt her legs buckle beneath her and the next thing she knew, she was falling... into darkness.

********END OF FLASHBACK**********

Vaelora woke up.

Her head was slightly aching, and her eyes were too heavy.

"Lora."

She looked by the side, to see him sitting next to her. Alpha Noir.

"I'm glad you're finally awake," he muttered.

Vaelora quickly looked around herself, confirming she was no longer dreaming about the incident nine years ago.

She was surprised Alpha Noir was here, having been out of the province for the past few weeks.

"I came as soon as I heard," he whispered, locking eyes with her blue ones.

Immediately, she remembered all that had taken place before she lost consciousness. Dione had cheated on her...

Draekon was...

Goddess! He was....

"You have to marry Draekon."

Alpha Noir's words sliced through her thoughts like a sharp blade, the invisible injury hurting even more as he continued.

"I understand how you feel, my dear. But the council chiefs and high lords are already clamoring for balance. Vaelora, you have to marry Draekon. That is your duty as the goddess appointed Luna."

  • My Second Chance Mate Is My Nemesis   178

AT HIS request, Rebekah leaned closer and their lips locked in a gentle, passionate kiss. While Khol'an tried to take it slow, Rebekah plunged her tongue into his mouth, tasting the very sweet essence of him.The kiss went on for a while longer, before they broke apart, panting hard. The next thing, she swiftly climbed onto him and carefully straddled his hips, settling her weight gently and making sure she wasn’t causing him any discomfort. Her heart was racing so hard she could barely breathe. At that point, she had forgotten all her discussions with Amaya and Nali'a, and just decided to go with the flow. Moreover she had started differently from what they had taught her and so far, it wasn't bad.Khol'an gazed up at her, quietly stunned by this side of her. She leaned down and captured his lips again, while he groaned softly into her mouth, his hands sliding up her back. She kissed him harder, then began trailing her lips along his jaw and down the column of his neck. When she re

AFTER soaking herself in a scented bath for over an hour, Rebekah finally stepped out in a fluffy bathrobe to meet Amaya and Nali'a patiently waiting for her."You sure took your precuous time," Nali'a teased and she blushed bright red."Don't make her more tensed than she already is, Nalia," Amaya chastised. Rebekah's gaze fell on the two robes laid on her bed, and she instantly preferred the black one. The red robe was just too obvious. She certainly didn't want to enter Khol'an's chambers that night, giving off the idea of what she had come for. "I'm guessing you prefer the black one," Amaya said, and she nodded in agreement. "I like it too." Amaya flashed her a warm smile."Alright, come here." Nali'a took Rebekah's hand and led her to the chair right in front of the large mirror. "I would just help you brush your hair."Rebekah gave a small nod. "Okay." Nali'a loosened her hair from the initial braids they had been in and within minutes, she finished her business. After tha

"I still believe a miracle can happen," Nali'a said."I believe so too," Amaya agreed. "The return of his memories shows that changes are happening. But we don’t know when this particular miracle will come. And time is something we don’t have."As the sisters continued talking, Rebekah remained lost in her own storm of fear and longing."Rebekah?" Nali’a’s voice pulled her back."Sorry," she murmured, unable to hide her troubled expression."Are you okay?" both sisters asked at the same time. She shrugged lightly. "Yes. Just tired from the long day."They seemed to have bought the excuse, even though her mind kept pushing her to say something to them. This wasn't just about their brother, but about Rebekah as well. She desperately needed someone to talk to, but she was uncertain if speaking with them was the best idea. She could visit home that night and speak with her mother maybe?"I think we should let you have your much needed rest then. We could always discuss more tomorrow," Am

REBEKAH walked into her chambers and closed the door behind. Her shoulders were stiff from sitting through long hours of the local council meeting. For the first time, she was showing up as Luna and representing Khol'an, but the situation of things were harsher than she could have imagined. Things had only grown more complicated since Marion’s arrest. She still couldn’t believe some council members were questioning whether the late Alpha Dean was truly Khol’an’s father. While she understood their need for certainty, every doubt felt like another wound to her mate.Just then, the sentinel stationed at her door announced that she had visitors."Luna, Lady Amaya and Nali'a seek audience," his voice rang out.Nali'a and Amaya? They hadn't really spoken much to her since the incident."Please let them in," she responded. Seconds later, the door opened and the sisters walked in."Amaya, Nalia," Rebekah called in acknowledgement, bracing herself for anything. Maybe they finally had the t

AT THE early hours of dawn, Rebekah and Khol'an were still asleep on his bed. She lay curled into a fetal position, her back nestled against Khol'an's chest as he spooned her.She slowly stirred awake when she felt something firm pressing insistently against her backside and frowned, trying to ignore it. But the sensation didn't go away. All of a sudden, it registered onto her mind and her eyes flung open, the remnant sleep vanishing. As realization dawned on her, heat crept onto her cheeks. That wasn't an object. It was... Khol'an."Rebekah..." he drowsily whispered. His deep morning voice vibrated against her ear as his arm tightened, pulling her closer on pure instinct. His hips rolled forward once, pressing that hard, throbbing heat more firmly against her. That sensation sent a jolt through both of them. Then Khol’an froze. His breathing grew rough and uneven as awareness dawned. For the first time in his life, he felt it. Heavy. Aching. Alive. A rush of heat and unfamiliar

REBEKAH stared at Khol'an, not sure what to say in response. She hadn't really thought that extensively about his healing. So far, all she had been focused on was how to minimize his pains and put an end to the repetitive crisis he usually suffered. But now that he mentioned it..."It's..." she paused briefly, thinking her next words through. "I believe it's a possibility.""Really..?" His facial features seemed to relax a bit as quiet hope shone in his eyes. She nodded. "Yes. Though I'm not certain, but I'm quite convinced. Especially now that we know for sure it was the Black Thistle that caused your memory blockage and ruined your ability to walk.""It is also apparent that some of your recently triggered memories were as a short term effect of injesting the healing herbs I secretly administered to you. Your long term cosumption of Black Thistle may have been what ensured you remained..." she trailed off, knowing he understood the rest. There was a bout of silence, before he spoke

VAELORA finally stepped out of their bathing chambers, still yet to get over what had transpired between she and Draekon. She felt hot in a way she couldn't explain. And no, it wasn't because she had soaked in warm water for long. Factually speaking, the water had gone cold by the time she

"Draekon..... You'll keep to your word and let me go. Won't you?" Vaelora asked. Draekon looked away, unsure how he felt in that moment. It was definitely not a deliberate decision of his, to have promised her such freedom. He would never do that. He could never let her go, knowing how ba

VAELORA watched in silence as Draekon reviewed paperwork after paperwork. He didn't seem the least bit perturbed, and it irked her to no end, seeing as she was actually dying to know what Lady Helena and her father had been discussing in the inner room, for the past hour. Chief Wofah had arr
