MANNIE'S POV

I rubbed my temples as I stepped out of the school gate.

The sun was barely up, and the air smelled of exhaust and early morning dew. But I couldn’t feel the calm in it. My head pounded like a drum.

After everything that happened this morning—after dealing with my brother, Sandra, her sister-in-law, and my mother—I just wanted silence.

I didn’t even care if I had to sit in traffic for hours. Anything was better than being home in that suffocating tension.

MANNIE’S POV"Aren't you going for the team meeting?""I am. I just want to print this out, so that I can submit it immediately after the meeting to the supervisor." I responded, stapling the document together. The printer hummed beside me, spitting out the last page. I tapped the stack lightly on the table, aligning the edges before pressing the stapler down with a firm click."Alright, be fast.""Mm." I quickly attached the document to the file and followed after her.My heels clicked softly against the tiled floor as I walked. Around me, people moved in clusters, murmuring, laughing, some holding files like me.The air smelled faintly of coffee and paper. The door to the meeting was left open as the person before me had left it open, so I could easily enter.I walked into the meeting room and moved to the seat around the perimeter, close to the edge.I preferred the edges. It made it easier

MANNIE’S POV"You can see your son now." The nurse said, directing me towards Zane's ward."Thank you." I thanked the nurse before she left.My legs felt weak as I walked down the corridor. The smell of antiseptic clung to the air, yet it did nothing to calm the storm inside me.Each step felt heavy.Like I was walking through something thick, something that held me back.I reached the door and paused for a second. My fingers hovered over the handle, trembling slightly before I pushed it open.Entering the ward, my gaze immediately fell on Zane's sleepy face.He lay still on the bed, his small body wrapped in white sheets. A thin tube ran from his hand, and the faint beep of the monitor filled the room.My chest tightened.I walked closer, slowly, as if I was afraid he might disappear if I moved too fast. His lashes rested softly against his cheeks. His lips were slightly parted, and his

3RD POV"Then can you tell us what you have experienced, who knows, we may like your god." Nate said. The killer's expression turned hideous. His lips stretched in a slow, broken grin that didn’t reach his eyes. His eyes… they shifted, dark and hollow, like something had eaten away the man inside and left only a shell behind. A faint tremor ran through his shoulders, and the air in the cave thickened. For a moment, everyone held their breath.Even the dripping water from the cave ceiling seemed to pause.Fear crept into their bones, silent and cold. What if he attacked? What if he decided to kill Zane right there?Zane lay limp in his arms, his head tilted awkwardly, his chest rising faintly. If Zane had been awake, he could have struggled. He could have fought. But now… he was nothing more than a fragile weight. And that made everything worse. No one knew what drug they had used

3rd POVThe police stood in a loose line, their weapons lowered but ready. One of them raised a hand slowly, palm open, voice steady as he spoke.“Listen… let the child go. We can talk this out.”The man didn’t move. His grip around Zane’s neck tightened, the knife pressing closer against the boy’s skin.“Four minutes,” he said, his voice rough. “You have four minutes left.”A murmur spread through the officers. One of them checked his watch, his brows tightening.“He already gave five minutes earlier,” another whispered under his breath. “He’s counting down.”No one moved back. No one stepped away.Because walking down the mountain blindly made no sense. One wrong step, one hidden trigger, and everything could end in seconds. The possibility hung in the air.Bombs.Traps.A setup waiting for them

Mannie’s POVHumming a tone, I lightly shook my head to it as I packed my belongings.Since Dominic went for the business trip, it had been like a breath of fresh air.
