LOGINSilja POV
I make it up to my apartment. I took two painkillers and a long hot shower. My appointment with my client isn’t until three in the afternoon. Some woman and her mother are coming to take formal pictures. I look in the mirror, and my eyes go wide and in horror. I’ve been marked. I mated and was marked by a complete stranger.
‘Pau! What the hell? Why are we marked?!’
‘Why else? We found our mate last night. We mated and he marked us. We marked him too. He was delicious in bed.’ She said, stretching in my mind.
‘I lost my virginity to my mate and I don’t even remember. I also left. Why didn’t I sense he was my mate when I woke up?’
‘You still had the aconitum in your system. It screws with the senses. I was trying to tell you he was our mate, but you couldn’t hear me.’
No. No. No. This cannot be happening. Some rich guy with a gorgeous back side is my mate and he is a wolf too.
‘Relax. We will find our way back to him. Moon Goddess paired us, remember?’
‘What did he smell like? At least give me a clue here.’
‘Cashmere and Incense. He smelled like he was clean and waiting for us at the altar.’ She smirked in my mind.
I put my head in my hands. Now what do I do? I didn’t even see his face, and I don’t remember anything from last night. Romy said his name was David. What I do remember is his body is built, light tan, and his hair is black. He also took up a lot of the bed. Weird detail, but it tells me he is a big guy. I can’t do anything about it now, so I need to focus on getting through my day. Then I can commence a proper breakdown. Romy is going to have to sit with me through all of it. I need her to help me through my suffering.
I rest for another hour, getting some light food in my system before getting ready and heading out the door to walk three blocks to the studio where I currently work. My dream is to open my own studio one day and build myself an empire. In my imagination, I would call it WildeScapes. That way my family’s surname would be included, and it would pay homage to them. I miss them. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been back home to our pack.
I skipped through several grades as a kid. Everyone thought I was going to be a doctor, lawyer, or something fancy. My passion was always photography though. When I left the pack to study at the university, I majored in photography and graphic design. With technology advancing the way it has, I figured it could help my career when the time came. I always stay up to date on the latest technology too. One day, when I have my own company, I’m going to make sure I use all the tools at my disposal to have the best photography business in town.
I make it to the studio thirty minutes ahead of schedule. I start setting up my cameras and laptop. I pull the lighting out and the back drops. When the front door chimes, I make my way to the front. I see two very refined women standing by the front desk. One of them is holding a garment bag and I presume that it is the dress that is going to be worn for the pictures. I put on a bright smile and approached them.
“Trina Mayer and Mrs. Mayer, I presume?” Greeting them warmly.
The older lady scoffed, “I’m Mrs. Sinnett. Trina Mayer is my future daughter-in-law.”
“My apologies Mrs. Sinnett. Trina said her mother would be coming. I guess that is a huge compliment to you that she thinks so warmly of you as a real mother.” I said, easily smoothing things over.
Mrs. Sinnett smiles at her future daughter-in-law and Trina smiles back at Mrs. Sinnett with a gentle look in her eyes. It makes me want to gag. I have captured sincere expressions behind a lens before and hers is anything but. Clearly, Trina is only kissing up to Mrs. Sinnett. The finance must have money. That’s the only time a woman would have that fake expression on her face when her eyes clearly want to tell the old woman about herself.
“Right! Well, as we spoke before Ms. Mayer, I have the backdrop and the props set up for the photoshoot. May I see your dress?” I asked.
Mrs. Sinnett the interrupts, “Why? We prefer to have her wearing it first.”
“I understand your concern ma’am. I need to see the fabric, shine, etc. It will help me with the lighting and make sure I capture Ms. Mayer in the absolute most perfect and ethereal light.” I said.
I can tell by the approving look in Mrs. Sinnett’s eyes she is satisfied with my answer. “Very well.” She said, gesturing to Trina to hand over the garment bag. When I opened the bag and held it up, it was apparent that this was a Luna dress. I quickly look over to the both of them.
“Luna Ceremony?” I asked.
They both stopped and looked at me shocked. “How do you know that?”
“I’m a wolf too.” I said. Looking at the dress, I held it up against the props and I started thinking that I could really make this photoshoot, beautiful, sexy, and glamourous at the same time.
“What pack are you from?” Mrs. Sinnett asked me.
“My family is from Mountain Mist Pack.” I said.
“I’ve been there a couple of times for the moonstone gems.” Mrs. Sinnett said. “You’re a long way from home.”
“Yes, I came here to attend the university. I recently graduated top of my class in photography and graphic design. I stayed in the city to start my career.”
Trina smiled gently but it didn’t reach her eyes. “Yes, well now that you’ve seen the dress, can you please give it back so I can go change?”
“Of course.” I said handing over the dress. “Also, looking at the dress and knowing the occasion is it for, would you be open to an alternative setting? I will of course keep the original idea, but if you can humor me with an additional twenty minutes, I would like to take pictures with a different backdrop that I think you will love.” I said, trying to get an additional sale.
“I suppose.” Trina said.
“Great! I will get everything ready while you change. The dressing room is down the hall. First door on the right or left, whichever you prefer.” I said and then turned to Mrs. Sinnett, “Can I offer you a water?”
“Yes, thank you.” She said.
As I hand her the bottle of water, I start pulling out the additional props to make a quick change and make sure we have everything ready. For the second set of pictures.
Silja POVI walked out of the emergency room and into the waiting room. Romy, Erik, and Nolan all stand up and look at me expectantly. But I’m numb. How did this happen? Trina wasn’t at the restaurant. She wasn’t close to Gerard and didn’t have contact with him inside the courthouse. Now, the memories Ged and I have made in almost a year’s time have her replacing me in his memory. Our first time in my apartment, the way he would cook for me, seeing Lennox via the ultrasound, the Luna Ceremony, our one-night stand, everything is being replaced with Trina. How? That’s what I don’t understand. I get that it’s a dark magic potion, but how did she get to him?“Silja?” Nolan called gently, bringing me back to reality.I looked at Romy, and her eyes were full of tears. She can sense I’m numb and in pain at the same time. I lose my battle with tears, and Romy hugs me.“Silja, whatever it is, it will be okay. I promise. What’s wrong with Gerard?” she asked.I looked up, fat, ugly, tears slidin
Silja POV“Ged!” I screamed. The guards help him inside the truck, and his skin is cold. He is not responsive.“Get us to the hospital, NOW!” I ordered.“Yes, Luna.”We took off, and I’m holding Ged’s head in my lap. Romy is looking at us, and she is quiet, but I know she is nervous.“Call Erik. Tell him what happened to Gerard, and we are on our way to the hospital,” I said.Romy snaps out of it and grabs her phone.“Erik,” she says with her voice shaking, “We are on our way to the hospital. We won the case and went to eat. Then, when we were getting into the SUV, Gerard passed out. He isn’t responsive, and he looks pale. Silja ordered the guard to take us to the hospital.”There was a pause, and then she said, “Yes. That’s where we are going.”Another pause as Erik said something else to her, and she responded. “Okay.”They hang up, and she looks at me. “Erik is coming to the hospital. Nolan is going to stay behind an extra day before going to Jaul. Nolan will call him to explain eve
Gerard POVI walked with Silja towards the bathroom. On the way, we were discussing where we would go for lunch.“I could really go for some Hibachi!” she said excitedly.“You and your Asian food,” I chuckled.Romy and Silja both looked at me like I wasn’t seeing the obvious. “Sils could eat her weight in Asian food, Mr. Sinnett.”I laughed. “You are right about that. Am I ordering Shumai?”Silja smiled. “Damn right, you are. Shumai and a Singapore Sling!”I shook my head, smiling. She is very happy, and I am glad. Having this defamation case behind us is a great step. As we approached the bathroom, I saw Trina’s mother outside.“Let’s get out of here, Silja. If Trina’s mother is standing outside, then Trina is in there. I don’t want you alone with her.”She and Romy both stopped smiling. Romy grabbed Sils' free hand, and we turned around to leave. As we are walking away, I hear Mrs. Mayer call my name.“Ignore her, Ged. Nothing good will come from talking to her,” Silja said, and hone
Silja POVThe uneasy feeling I’m getting from Trina is only growing the longer we sit here waiting for the judge to come in. Romy notices and whispers in my ear, “Biatch, don’t get yourself worked up. This could be a tactic.”I took a deep breath. “I know you are right, but something feels off, Romy.”“Breathe, Sils. Remember, you answer only what you are asked. Do not elaborate more than needed.”Finally, the judge comes in, and we all stand.“Be seated,” the judge said.“This case is Sinnett v Mayer. Defamation,” the bailiff said as he handed the folder to the judge. He turned to Romy and me and asked us to explain the alleged defamation. Romy went on to explain that Trina publicly claimed I didn’t deliver the desired product, which ruined my reputation and cost me my job. She said it caused irreparable damage to my career and blacklisted me from the industry unjustly.“Do you have any proof to show the desired product was delivered and accepted?” The judge asked.Out of the corner o
Silja POV“You are not going by yourself, Sils,” Gerard said with finality.“Gerard, the Luna Guard will be with me, and so will my beta female. She’s my attorney after all.”“No. I’m coming with you. I don’t know what kind of stunt Trina is going to play. I haven’t forgotten what Larken said.”Larken did say she was planning something. “I don’t think she would try something in the courthouse, Gerard.”“I won’t take any chances. She could try something before or after the hearing. She could have something set up outside. I’m not risking your safety, Silja. I’m coming with you.”I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck, conceding. “Okay. Then we'd better get going in the next hour.”I kissed him gently, and then he deepened the kiss. When he pulls away, he looks me in the eyes. “I want her, her scheming, and anything else she is plotting behind us, Silja. My dream hasn’t changed, and I am nervous that you are going to leave me and take our son with you. It will break me, Sils. You a
Silja POV It has been three months since Lennox was born. All has been quiet. Gerard and I have been living in peace with our son. Jaul and Ged talked about Kiercy staying at Night Crown, and Ged categorically shut that down. He called Elder Starling himself and said no. He told him what happened to Romy and how Kiercy was involved. Whether by force or intentionally, Kiercy hurt his beta female and is not welcome to stay in the pack. Romy has gotten a lot of documents prepared for the upcoming council hearing with Larken to have him put away for good. She is also working on getting my court date in the city to sue Trina for defamation. All in all, she has kept busy. She said that after the court hearing with Trina, she and Erik will start trying for a pup. She has gotten baby fever watching Ged and me with Lennox. Of course, Erik has been smiling and laughing nonstop, watching Ged stumble through feedings and getting thrown up on by his son. “Wait until it’s your turn, Erik. You a
Silja POVHe said he loves me. He even said it to his mother. Openly and unashamedly, he claimed me with his mother. I was shocked, but the moment she tried to manipulate him by using her ‘mother’ guilt trip, I stepped in front of him and told her about herself. My mother has never once tried to gui
Gerard POV I cannot believe my mother came here to try to force Silja to give up custody of our son. Then, on top of it, Trina and I could raise our pup. Has she lost her ever-loving mind? I don’t know what flipped her switch, but it’s almost as if a demon has taken possession of my mother, and I
Silja POV You have got to be kidding me. Gerard and I just had a fantastic time in the bedroom, washed up, and we were going to enjoy a meal together and his mother showed up. ‘Why is she here?’ I asked in the mind link. ‘Hell, if I know.’ He responded. “Mother. What are you doing here?” He aske
Gerard POV When my father told me what my mother had over him, my expression darkened. I feel like my life has been one long lie. It also complicates things. I don’t even understand how my father didn’t see it back then. It makes me feel like a fraud, too. I spoke quickly with my father about a so
