LOGINEstelle's POV
I crossed to the sofa and deliberately chose the seat farthest from them.
I released no scent at all, yet the temperature in the room seemed to drop several degrees.
Among wolves, silence can cut deeper than pheromones.
Melody practically glued herself to Cassius's side, wrapping both arms around his, her scent cloyingly sweet. "Cassius, shall we finish our chess game?"
He frowned faintly and eased his arm from her grasp. His gaze, however, settled on me.
That look—I knew it too well.
Once, it had belonged to me. Now, it lingered out of nothing more than habit.
"Miss Miller, do you play chess?" Melody asked with a pleasant smile, though challenge edged her tone.
I glanced at the board.
Rosewood. Lacquered pieces.
But the arrangement was childish—more like a training exercise for young wolves than a real match.
Memories surfaced at the worst possible moment.
Countless nights when Cassius had stayed up with me until dawn, playing game after game.
He would deliberately let me win, chuckling when I grew frustrated, then bowing his head to kiss my fingertips when I claimed victory.
Now, he wouldn't indulge me at all.
"I do," I replied evenly. "Would you like to play?"
The Alpha's scent in the air tightened abruptly.
It was a warning.
But I ignored it.
The game began quickly.
Melody moved with restless speed, her scent sharp with ambition—like a young wolf desperate to prove herself.
I, on the other hand, placed my pieces slowly. One here. One there. No apparent pattern.
Lyra wore a satisfied expression—that familiar air of bloodline superiority.
But the board was shifting.
Each time Melody neared what she thought was victory, I quietly blocked her.
Once.
Twice.
The third time.
Her scent turned erratic—like a cub realizing the trap too late.
"Your move," I murmured.
She leaned forward, a triumphant smile already forming. "I'm winning—"
I slid one piece almost lazily across the board. "Checkmate."
The room went still.
Melody's face drained of color.
"I was one move away!" she protested, attempting to continue as though the rules didn't apply.
I regarded her calmly, as one might a young wolf who doesn't yet understand territorial law. "Then may I continue as well?"
I reset the board.
Another victory.
Game three.
Game four.
Game five.
I didn't end them quickly.
I was training her.
Slowly closing in. Gradually tightening the circle. Letting her believe she still had a chance—before dismantling her completely.
By the end, she was crying. Her scent dissolved into chaos—resentment, anger, the instinctive plea for protection.
"Enough." Cassius rose abruptly.
Alpha pressure surged outward. The air thickened, nearly crushing the lungs.
Melody threw herself into his arms.
Lyra's voice cut through the tension, cold and reproachful. "It's just a game. Why make it about winning?"
Their voices began to fade, as though I were hearing them through water.
I looked at Cassius.
The face that once made my heart race now felt like an old photograph—faded, blurred, no longer familiar.
"Enough," I thought.
With one sweep of my arm, I sent the pieces scattering across the floor.
I stood up.
A few drops of blood landed on the board.
Only then did I notice my nails had pierced my palms.
Wolves didn't cry. We bleed.
"Estelle!" Cassius's voice cracked—for the first time, edged with panic.
But in the next second, Melody clung tighter, her scent anchoring him in place.
He did not move.
Good.
I turned and walked out of the estate.
Rain poured down. The forest fell silent. The mountain road wound endlessly ahead.
My phone vibrated again and again.
It was Cassius.
I blocked him without hesitation, then sent Lyra a message:
[Fifteen billion. Not a cent less. Or the Thunderclaw Pack will pay.]
The rain intensified.
Headlights pierced the downpour like blades through mist.
At the bend in the road, an unfamiliar scent struck me—rot, wildness, disorder.
A Rogue.
My wolf surged instantly.
The next second, a black SUV shot from behind and slammed into me without slowing.
Metal shrieked.
The impact was violent. The steering wheel spun wildly in my grip. The rear end fishtailed, tires screaming against pavement. The sharp scent of blood flooded the air.
This wasn't an accident.
It was a hunt.
The SUV reversed, engine roaring—preparing to strike again.
My wolf roared inside me, but its reaction lagged half a beat, drained by the emotional storm still clawing at my chest.
Then—
A presence descended.
Cold. Vast. Deep as the ocean beneath midnight skies. Powerful enough to make the air itself yield.
The Rogue's scent faltered.
A black car approached soundlessly and positioned itself with precise efficiency, blocking the SUV's path.
The door opened.
A man stepped out.
Tall. Commanding. Features sharp and impassive. His presence restrained—yet oppressive enough to make one instinctively lower their gaze.
His Alpha aura wasn't completely unleashed.
But it was already enough to make the Rogue hesitate.
Just one second.
The man lifted his eyes and fixed them on him.
Inside me, my wolf surged forward—not in fear, not in caution, but in recognition.
As though a long-sealed latch had been gently touched.
His scent carried on the rain-soaked wind—cedar, stone after rain, and a subtle trace of sandalwood.
It tightened my chest.
My wolf gave a low, aching growl.
Not aggression, but longing.
I froze.
"Impossible. We had never formally met." I thought.
Then memory struck—
It was the man in the elevator.
The man approached the Rogue. No wasted movement. No words. Only a quiet release of pressure.
The Rogue turned pale and fled.
Rain streamed down the stranger's dark hair as he turned toward me.
Something deep in my chest—something buried for too long—vibrated softly.
Not Cassius's blazing possessiveness.
Something steadier. Inevitable. Like an ancient call rising from the forest floor.
He removed his suit jacket and handed it to the middle-aged guard beside him.
"For her."
His voice was low, controlled, stripped of emotion—yet absolute in its authority.
The jacket settled over my shoulders, still warm.
His scent intensified.
My wolf surged toward it, uncontrollable.
My pulse quickened—not from the crash, but from him.
Police sirens cut through the rain, blue and red lights flashing across wet asphalt.
I remained composed as I gave my statement.
The guard handled everything efficiently, with the discipline of a powerful pack.
The man stayed at a distance. He did not approach.
But his gaze never left me.
It wasn't predatory.
It was assessing. Confirming I was unharmed.
And I realized—
Since the moment he appeared, the restless storm inside me had quieted.
It was not suppressed, but soothed.
The way only a destined mate can soothe it.
I refused to think further.
When everything was settled, I said quietly, "Thank you."
He inclined his head once.
Rain drummed steadily against the pavement. My heartbeat was louder.
The middle-aged guard stepped forward, posture straight, voice measured.
"Miss, would you like me to take you to the hospital?"
Estelle's POVHearing Cassius's words, I felt a headache coming on and had absolutely no idea how to respond. As I was searching for an answer, I suddenly heard someone click his tongue.Looking over Cassius's shoulder, I spotted Theron standing beneath a nearby streetlamp. The darkness cast sharp shadows across his features."Seriously," he said. "This is the third time I've heard this exact conversation."Thanks to a werewolf's heightened hearing, I caught every word despite how softly he spoke. Then again, as one of the most powerful Alphas alive, lowering his voice didn't seem like something he naturally bothered with.Beside him, Amelia looked equally exasperated."If this were a novel," she said, "the readers would be accusing the author of padding the chapters. One person says, ‘Activate the bond.' The other says, ‘No.' Then they repeat the same argument ten thousand times."Theron fell silent for two seconds before nodding thoughtfully."That's a fair point." He looked between
Estelle's POVI nodded impassively. "Yeah. The Moon Goddess must be pretty bored today."The door swung open, and the scent of an Alpha flooded the room.Cassius walked in and sat down beside me. His gaze swept over my face before settling on my hands. Only after confirming I wasn't hurt did the tension in his aura ease slightly. Then, without warning, he reached out, pulled my face toward him, and started feeding me."You're this hungry? You came out here just to eat on your own? Why didn't you tell me?" His tone was casual, as if nothing had happened.I tugged at the corner of my mouth but said nothing.Cassius looked up at Theron. Two Alpha auras clashed in silence, like rival wolf kings sizing each other up across a contested border."Alpha Theron," he said with a cold smile. "You really enjoy hanging around other people's mates, don't you? She has a mate. Didn't you know that?"The entire Italian restaurant fell silent at once. Even the owner and his wife perked up, clearly preten
Estelle's POVThe message had barely been sent when Amelia's call came through.I frantically hung up and switched to text.Amelia replied almost immediately: [Who saved you? In that godforsaken place of yours, who else but me would come looking for you in the middle of the night?]I stared at the screen, momentarily lost in thought.I'd originally planned to brush it off, but since she'd asked, not answering would only make me look guilty. And what exactly did I have to feel guilty about? So I typed a name with complete honesty: [Theron.]There was a three-second pause before her messages exploded across the screen.[??????][What's going on?!][Nightshade's Alpha personally came to save you?!][That's way beyond a boss caring about an employee, isn't it?!]The corner of my mouth twitched. [Because I'm a hero.]Amelia replied instantly. [Then do another heroic deed. Shouldn't he reward you with himself?]I stared at the screen, expressionless.[Shut up.][Just focus on running your la
Estelle's POVThe next second, a strong arm wrapped around my waist, and suddenly my feet left the ground."Aaaah—Help! Somebody's trying to kill me!"I struggled wildly, kicking and flailing. Several solid kicks landed on whoever was behind me.Then a deep voice sounded above my head."No one's trying to kill you."The moment I heard it, I froze. That voice was unmistakable—familiar in a way that settled deep in my bones. It was like mountain spring water after the thaw: cool, clear, and strangely reassuring. My struggling gradually stopped, and I turned my head.Moonlight filtered through the treetops, illuminating a face so striking it was almost intimidating. Pale skin. Deep-set eyes. And that presence unique to a top-tier Alpha—like a sandalwood forest beneath a winter sky, powerful and dangerous, yet remarkably restrained.I stared at him, completely dumbfounded. At that moment, a bear stepping out of the woods would have seemed more believable than what I was seeing."Y-you…" I
Estelle's POVIn that moment, a crimson glow flashed in his eyes."Regret?" He stared at me, his voice low and dangerous. "But you're already my Luna.""I used to be!" I finally screamed, breaking down. "You're the one who betrayed me! You're the one who neglected me! You're the one who left me suffering through the Bond every single day!"The tears came uncontrollably, one after another."Why am I the one paying the price for all of it? Cassius, how did you become this cruel?"The carriage fell silent.I watched the madness in his eyes fracture piece by piece, leaving behind nothing but pain—raw, unbearable pain.He lifted a hand toward me, then stopped halfway, as though he no longer had the right to touch me."I'm sorry," he whispered. "Estelle, I'm sorry. It's my fault. All of it. I just…"His voice broke, sounding like the whimper of a wounded wolf."I just didn't want to lose you."I stared at him blankly. Suddenly, I felt so exhausted that even my anger had burned itself out.Mo
Estelle's POVThe compartment was hazy with cigarette smoke. His tie hung loose around his neck, and dark strands of hair had fallen across his forehead.I had to admit it—Cassius was still devastatingly handsome. Mature. Dangerous. Every inch the Alpha. But the image that surfaced in my mind wasn't the man standing before me.It was the boy from years ago. The boy who would blush whenever our fingers brushed. The boy who'd hidden his first bouquet behind his back, too embarrassed to hand it over. That boy was gone. He'd been gone for a very long time.I drew a slow breath and met his gaze."So?" I asked. "What exactly do you want?"Cassius exhaled a stream of smoke, his eyes never leaving mine. They were frighteningly dark, like a wolf studying its prey.A long moment passed. Then he suddenly leaned closer. The scent of tobacco brushed against my skin as his deep voice filled the cramped compartment."Estelle. I've been thinking about this for a long time." His eyes searched my face.
Estelle's POVHis voice was hoarse, like a wounded beast tearing through its last breath. "What are you doing here?!"Thud! In the next instant, Cassius was sent crashing to the ground so fast I didn't even see the movement that caused it.Theron stood there, expressio
Estelle's POVI was sitting in the car, half-asleep. That earlier fiasco had drained almost all my energy. The lingering weakness from the broken bond still washed over me in slow, relentless waves. My wolf had curled up into a tight ball and drifted off.Amelia was still wat
Estelle's POVI chuckled inwardly. So did my wolf.It all happened so smoothly—so smoothly it almost felt staged. And sure enough, the next second, Melody circled around Cassius and dropped to her knees in front of me with a thud. The sound was sharp, almost jarring.T
Estelle's POVI couldn't help but imagine Melody's reaction—furious, almost unhinged—after seeing my posts on Jessica's feed.Back then, I had seen her messages myself—the ones about her affair with Cassius. It was all meticulously arranged by her. She had them deliberately leaked t
