Katherine’s POV

The moment we arrived at the manor, I wanted to go back. The hall was huge but it looked cheap, the decorations were dull and uneven, the lights flickered like they couldn’t decide if they wanted to stay on or not. There were fewer maids than expected for a High Lord and the ones present looked tired and scared.

Alicia and Jessie, Stephen’s stepsisters, walked beside me with excitement like this place was grand. I kept my face blank because the last thing I wanted was for anyone to see how irritated I was. I couldn’t stop thinking how much better Silverveil looked before Stephen destroyed everything.

We met some other noblewomen, and I tried not to roll my eyes at their fake smiles. Alicia didn’t even notice my mood, she was too busy staring at a young man dressed in a dark suit. The High Lord’s son. She kept whispering about him under her breath.

“That’s him,” she said, staring like she was in love.

Before I could reply, the boy walked past us, his hand wrapped around another woman’s waist. A girl in a bright dress, clearly well-known because everyone turned to stare.

Jessie let out a small sigh. “Don’t be angry, Alicia, it’s an arranged union.”

Alicia’s nose flared. “He doesn’t even like her.”

Jessie tried to calm her down but Alicia just kept glaring in their direction. I moved a little away from them because I was already tired of the drama. I didn’t come here to witness heartbreak, I already had enough of my own.

I walked toward a table and grabbed a drink. It tasted bitter but strong and maybe that was what I needed tonight. For a moment, I stood alone and looked around. Everyone here looked like they were pretending to be happy. Everything looked forced. Too controlled.

Stephen’s control.

I hated the reminder.

When I stepped away from the table, I bumped into someone. He turned and gave a small bow like he wanted to look polite.

“Lady Katherine,” he said.

He knew my name. Of course he did. Everyone did.

“You’re High Lord Von Graye,” I said, not bothering to hide my irritation.

“Yes,” he smiled, “I am glad you’re here. If you need anything, please…”

“I need nothing,” I cut in. “Except maybe a reason why you let Stephen walk into your pack like it was his.”

His smile froze.

I looked him up and down. “Stephen let you keep your packhouse, now you call it a manor like it makes it better, but he owns everything else. Including your budget. That must be why the place looks like… this.”

He stared at me, annoyed. “You’re brave to talk like that.”

“I’m not brave,” I said. “I’m just tired of cowards.”

His expression hardened, “Funny coming from you.”

I didn’t blink. “What did you say?”

“At least I kept some dignity,” he said. “You? You let the conqueror use you. Sex tool of the Alpha King. If anyone should be ashamed, it’s you.”

The words hit like a punch. My throat felt tight instantly but I refused to show it. My fingers curled into fists.

I turned around and walked away before I said something worse. Jessie called my name but I ignored her and headed straight for the drinks. I threw back one, then another. The burn spread through my chest and I wanted more. I wanted to feel anything except the memory of that night. My father’s body. My sister's voice fading.

Just more drinks.

Soon everything spun a little, and the music sounded like noise instead of a melody. I pushed through the crowd and headed outside, nearly tripping. A driver rushed toward me

“My lady…”

“Take me back,” I said, pointing toward anything that looked like a road. “Palace. Now.”

He didn’t argue. Good.

I leaned back in the seat and let the alcohol drag everything down into a dark hole.

Then nothing.

*

When my eyes opened again, my head was pounding. The room smelled clean and new but it wasn’t mine. I pushed myself up slowly. I was still wearing the dress from the party.

On the wall were framed pictures.

Alpha Gauthier. Luna Alma.

I stood frozen. My heart stopped. My stomach twisted.

Where the hell was I?

I took a step back, and then the bathroom door opened.

Rowan walked out, hair wet, towel around his shoulders.

My chest squeezed. “What did you do?!” I shouted without even thinking.

He looked shocked. “Katherine, wait….”

“Stay away from me,” I yelled and grabbed the nearest thing, a small clock, and threw it. He dodged.

“Nothing happened,” he said, hands up. “You were drunk, I found you at the palace entrance, I didn’t touch….”

I didn’t let him finish. I grabbed a pillow and threw it, then a vase. The vase shattered against the wall. He kept avoiding them instead of coming closer.

“Why am I here?!” I demanded, voice shaking.

“Because your room was farther and you were barely conscious,” he said. “This was closer. I put you on the bed and left to shower, that’s all.”

I didn’t trust him. My mind kept flashing with what the High Lord said and how weak I must look to everyone. My hands were trembling and I hated it.

Before Rowan could try anything else, the door burst open and guards rushed in, weapons raised.

Stephen stepped in behind them.

His eyes moved from Rowan to me. For a second, I forgot how to breathe. I didn’t think I would move but my body ran straight to him without waiting for my brain to agree.

I grabbed his arm like it was the only safe place in the room.

Stephen looked down at my hand, then at me. His expression didn’t change, not even a little, but something in his eyes felt different, quiet, like he was holding back a reaction.

Rowan lowered his head quickly. “My King, nothing happened. She misunderstood….”

Stephen didn’t look at him. He didn’t look at anyone except me.

  • BOUND TO THE ALPHA KING   Chapter 101

KATHERINE I stood in front of the full-length mirror inside our bedroom, and I yanked tightly at the stiff collar of the formal royal battle dress, and I was completely annoyed by how restrictive the entire outfit felt on my skin. The thick material was embedded with heavy steel plates across the shoulders and the chest, and I found the gear incredibly heavy, and I was cursing out loud under my breath about the stupid designer who had made it.Stephen was standing right by my side as I wore the difficult armor, and he reached out to help me buckle the heavy side straps, and he looked at my angry expression while laughing softly at my frustration."You really do not have to wear this specific battle dress today if it makes you this uncomfortable, Katherine," Stephen said, and he adjusted one of the steel plates while his shoulders shook with amusement. "We are only going to a formal meeting in the lower town, and you can just wear a regular linen dress instead."I turned my head quick

  • BOUND TO THE ALPHA KING   Chapter 100

KATHERINE I was almost completely out of breath, and my lungs burned as I tried to pull the air back into my chest. I stared at Stephen in absolute shock while my heart pounded so hard that I could feel the pulse in my throat, and his hands still gripped my waist tightly, keeping me close against his chest. He looked down into my eyes, his own breathing rough and uneven from the intensity of the moment, and he made no move to loosen his hold on me."Did you like it, Katherine?" Stephen asked, his deep voice low and rough.I nodded before I could even stop myself, and a fierce warmth spread through my entire body like a sudden flame. My skin tingled everywhere his fingers touched me, and I realized exactly where this moment between us was leading. Yet, for the first time, I wasn't trying to avoid him or push him away like I once had. I had spent months fighting my feelings for this man, doubting his every action and questioning his intentions, but all of that bitterness had disappeare

  • BOUND TO THE ALPHA KING   Chapter 99

KATHERINE It was night now, and the whole chaotic situation with the trial and the elders had finally been settled by the guards and the council members, and at last, quietness had returned to the palace grounds. I stood outside alone on the royal palace's balcony, which connected directly to our shared bedroom on the upper floor of the west wing. I gripped the cold railing with both hands as I overlooked the entire pack territory from above, or at least the main lawns and the front gates that were visible in the dim lamps.I finally had a short moment of peace to myself because Stephen had gone out to the front courtyard a little while ago to send the human king from Oslo and his followers off on their long journey back home.As I stared out at the dark trees, my mind drifted back to the very first time I had came to this pack as a prisoner, and I tried to remember the details of that day. Had it been night or day when the carriage first rolled through those giant gates? I thought a

  • BOUND TO THE ALPHA KING   Chapter 98

KATHERINE At the exact same time that I tried to stand up, the elders on the formal panel all stood up from their seats together, and they raised their longnstaffs high to make the loud crowd go completely quiet before addressing me directly. The chanting and shouting from the pack members stopped instantly, and the vast field became completely silent as the grand elder stepped forward to the platform and cleared his throat. He looked at me with a serious expression before raising his voice so everyone could hear his words clearly."We stand before you today to formally acknowledge you as the true Luna of this pack, Lady Katherine," the grand elder said, bowing his head slightly toward my chair. He then went on to give a very long-winded speech about how they had all maligned me over the past months, and he talked about how the council had behaved badly toward me without any proper respect for my official role as the rightful Luna of the entire clan. He blamed all of their behavior e

  • BOUND TO THE ALPHA KING   Chapter 97

KATHERINE I stepped down from the royal carriage, and my formal dress rustled loudly on the grass as I walked carefully to Stephen's side on the raised platform. The platform was built right at the front of the field, and as I reached the top step, I noticed that the human king from Oslo and some of his close aides were already present and seated in the formal guest chairs. The human king stood up immediately when he saw me approach, smiling warmly as he bowed his head in a very flattering way before reaching out to shake my hand."It is an absolute honor to see you again, Lady Katherine, and it is clear to everyone now that you are the true queen of this pack," the human king said.I was completely surprised by his greeting because this kind of respect definitely hadn't happened the last time we met, as far as I could remember, and back then, he had barely even looked at me or acknowledged my existence. I could see that Stephen seemed a bit proud of the recognition as I sat down, an

KATHERINE His hand tangled firmly into the hair at the back of my neck, and he pulled me forward so suddenly that my breath hitched, and his lips smashed against mine with a frantic intensity that caught me completely off guard. The touch was hot and demanding, and the sheer desperation behind the movement made my entire mind go completely blank in an instant. I didn't push him away, and I didn't even try to fight the sudden embrace, and instead, my fingers buried themselves into the front of his shirt as I leaned my weight on the edge of his mattress to get closer to him.He groaned deeply into my mouth, and the sound vibrated straight through my chest, and his lips parted mine with a slow, pressure that made my knees feel entirely weak even though I was sitting down. The kiss grew deeper and hotter, and he tilted his head to change the angle, and his mouth moved on mine with a fierce hunger that seemed to erase months of bitterness and pain between us. I met his touch with my own u
