Mag-log inEliana Grace Herrera
I feel like the heavens and the earth have collapsed on me, as if God has already given me all the problems in this world. Sometimes, I even want to question Him and blame Him. I’ve been a good person. Ever since I was a child, I never hurt or oppressed anyone. As much as I could, I followed His teachings and lessons. Whenever I had free time, I would go to church. It’s only now that I haven’t been able to attend because I need to work for my siblings so we can survive. But why is it like this? Out of all the people in the world, why did He choose me to suffer like this?
Crying, I stared at my youngest brother, who was now inside the ICU. We had already been in the hospital for several days, and as the days passed, my brother’s life became more and more at risk. Just yesterday, the doctor told me that if Gasper wasn’t operated on as soon as possible, he could be taken away from us at any moment. But even if I wanted him to undergo surgery immediately, I couldn’t do anything because it would require a huge amount of money. I already struggle just to find enough money for our daily meals—how much more for my brother’s operation, which costs nearly half a million pesos?
I know my brother is suffering too and probably want to give up already to end his sufferings, but call me selfish if you want—I still can’t bear to lose any of them. I’ll do anything just to save him. Honestly, I was already close to accepting the mayor’s offer. After working at the municipal office for so long, I already knew he desired me. I just couldn’t leave the job because it was the only thing keeping my siblings and me alive. But last night, when he offered to help pay for my brother’s surgery in exchange for being in a relationship with him even though he already had a wife, I almost agreed—just to save my brother.
A tap on my shoulder pulled me back from my deep thoughts.
“Friend, eat something first. You might end up getting sick too. What will happen to your siblings if yo get sick?” Calix, my best friend, said sadly as she handed me a paper bag from a fast-food chain. Her boyfriend, Miko, was with hem too.
The three of us sat on the empty bench in front of the ICU where my brother was confined. But instead of opening and eating the food they brought, I could only stare at it sadly because it reminded me of Gasper—he loved this kind of food.
“If you’re worried about your siblings, don’t be. Before we came here, I stopped by your house to bring them food too. So that one is really for you. Eat it while it’s still hot,” Calix said again, as if she could read my mind.
I thanked the couple for their concern. I told them I’d eat later so they wouldn’t worry anymore.
Silence filled the space between the three of us for a while until Miko finally broke it by asking about my brother.
“How’s Gasper, Grace?”
A sad smile formed on my lips.
“He’s still the same, Miko. There’s no improvement in his condition, and the worst part is that as the days pass, his life becomes more endangered if he doesn’t get operated on immediately,” I said sadly.
The two of them sighed almost at the same time before Miko spoke again.
“Uh, Grace… I know something that might help you,” he said hesitantly.
My gaze immediately shifted to him.
“What is it, Miko? Is it a job? I’ll accept any kind of work as long as I can get Gasper operated on,” I said desperately.
From his bag, he pulled out a folder and handed it to me. At the very top of the paper was the word “CONTRACT” written in large letters, making me frown even before I could read the entire document.
“That’s a contract, Grace, but it’s not a simple one. I’ll be honest with you—the contract is about becoming a surrogate mother. I know someone who’s willing to pay any amount just to find a woman who can carry his child,” Miko explained directly, making me stare at him again.
“So… I’ll get pregnant in exchange for money, is that it?” I asked in confusion even though his explanation was already clear.
Miko nodded while Calix quietly listened to our conversation.
“That’s right, Grace. But if you think you’ll need to have sex, you’re mistaken. As much as possible, my boss also doesn’t want to reveal himself to the woman he chooses. He will impregnate you through IVF—that’s the plan. And while you’re pregnant, you’ll already receive money that you can use to support your siblings,” he explained further.
I thought deeply about what he said. Technically, the child I would carry would also be my child, and I would have to give the baby away once I gave birth. Would my conscience be able to handle being separated from my own child? But then, what about Gasper? If not this, I’d probably end up with the mayor instead, and I don’t think I could bear becoming his mistress and destroying a family.
While I was thinking, a loud alarm suddenly echoed throughout the area. Right after that, doctors and nurses rushed toward my direction. Everything happened so fast, and the last thing I saw was the doctors trying to revive my brother inside the ICU. They stayed there for several minutes until Gasper’s pulse finally returned.
At that moment, I realized that what had just happened could happen again at any time if he wasn’t operated on immediately. So despite my doubts and fears, I faced Miko once more, took the contract from his hands, and without saying a word, signed it.
Elijah Theodore MartinezI kiss her lips as gently as possible, even though it’s far different from how I wanted to kiss my women before, but with Eliana, I’m willing to adjust. I want to take my time to taste every corner of her lips. I want to treat her like a precious gem, which I have never felt for any woman before. With her, I want to loosen up my defense. So that even just for now, even just in her arms, I can forget my anger toward women, which stems from the sins of my own mother."Have you forgiven me?" I ask softly after our lips temporarily part."I wasn't even mad at you, Theo. Sulking, yes, but I understand. I know exactly where I stand with you," Eliana admits shyly, though sadness is evident in her eyes.I plant another tender kiss on her lips while she holds onto me tightly, trying to reciprocate every movement of my lips. When our kiss breaks again, I look into her eyes once more. It's only now that I realize just how beautiful her eyes are. She has hazelnut brown ey
Elijah Theodore MartinezI arrived back at the office exactly at four o’clock. I texted Eliana immediately, asking if she was already done with her work and to go down to the parking lot. Mang Thomas wasn’t around today because I had told him that I would be the one to drive Eliana home. After a few minutes, I saw the person I was waiting for, seemingly looking for something, so I quickly took out my personal phone and typed a message. I scheduled the message to be sent three minutes later so that when I speak to Eliana later as Ja, she would receive it. In that way, she would never realize that I and the Ja she knows are the same person.“Mang Thomas had a breakdown. Sir Theo told me you should just ride with me since we’re going the same way anyway,” I said directly as soon as I approached her.She didn’t move right away or say anything. I even saw her trying to call my number. I wasn’t bothered, since I had left my phone in the car earlier. She tried calling several times, but when
Elijah Theodore MartinezI thought my day would continue to go well after talking to Eliana and, somehow, restoring the good relationship we once had. Even though I know she still feels hurt because of what I did, I'm grateful that she accepted my invitation to have lunch with me. We may not have been sitting together while eating, but I was already happy that, somehow, I was able to share the same lunch break with her and talk to her.I also sent her a bouquet of flowers as an apology. At first, I thought she wouldn't like them, but when I saw the sparkle in her eyes as she held the flowers, I couldn't help but smile as well. However, what should have been a pleasant lunch quickly turned into worry when I heard that Eliana had almost vomited at her table. I was about to stand up and follow her as she hurried to the restroom, but the moment I opened my office door, Rachel greeted me by wrapping her arms around my neck and kissing me without warning. With the company's employees gradua
Eliana Grace HerreraMy mood remained sour all the way home because of the sudden vomiting episode earlier. I couldn't even bring myself to open or taste the fruits Theo had bought for me. I didn't know whether it was because of the smell of the salad dressing or because of the woman I had heard with Theo earlier.I didn't see the woman leave the office earlier. Perhaps she used the VIP exit that Theo often used as well. That's probably why, despite him coming to the office every day, none of the employees knew him personally—well, except for Miko, who happened to be his secretary."Are you done? The driver is already in the parking lot."I read the message Theo had sent after opening my phone.I quickly typed a reply before continuing to pack my things."Yes, I'm done. I'm heading down now."After replying to Theo's message, I grabbed my belongings and didn't look at my phone again until I reached the ground floor. However, as soon as I got downstairs, I immediately looked for the ca

I was expecting that Theo had ordered some food for us, so I immediately called Calix and told him that I wouldn't be joining him for lunch today. But what I didn't expect was the bouquet that the delivery guy handed to me.It was only a simple apology letter and a bouquet of pink and white roses from Theo, yet my heart felt as though it wanted to leap out of my chest. Because of that, I slightly flinched when my phone suddenly rang, the caller being the man who had occupied my thoughts all day.I cleared my throat before finally answering the call. "Hello..." I said, trying to sound formal."Do you like it?" the man asked directly. Perhaps he had seen my reaction to the flowers from wherever he was.I found myself nodding, not knowing if he could still see me, before gently smelling the flowers in my hands."Yes, I li
Elijah Theodore MartinezIt was almost ten o’clock in the morning, yet I still hadn’t finished a single task. I was still thinking about what I had overheard from Calix and Eliana’s conversation, and up until now, I still couldn’t figure out how to make it up to her.“Bro, looks like something’s bothering you.”I turned toward the door and saw Rashid walking in. I had been so deep in thought that I hadn’t even noticed him knocking and entering my office.I let out a sigh before facing him. “Nothing. I’m just not in the mood to work today. It’s better not to force it, or I might end up messing things up even more,” I replied, though I knew my friend wasn’t convinced.“Sure, let’s pretend I don’t know you, and let’s also pretend that I actually believe you,” he said before placing a folder on my desk. “I’ve finalized the contract for the new casino you’re planning to build in Palawan. Just review it again before signing in case I missed anything.”I had completely forgotten that I had a
