LOGINGrace is desperate for answers, and her search leads her to a town teeming with supernatural beings. Here in Darkness Falls, Louisiana, she uncovers a prophecy that names her as the key to an ancient conflict, yet she finds herself ensnared in a web of distrust. Two factions, locked in a bitter rivalry for centuries, claim they need her, but their use of the term “Halfblood/Halfbreed" ignites a fire of indignation within her. As she delves deeper into her lineage, Grace learns that she is half werewolf, a legacy inherited from her father. Yet the notion of being half human, as they insist, feels fundamentally wrong. The truth begins to unravel when a powerful vampire lord meets his demise while attempting to claim her for his interpretation of the prophecy. In that moment of chaos, Grace discovers a shocking revelation: she is not merely part human or part werewolf; she is something entirely unexpected, a being that neither side could have foreseen. Now, she stands at a crossroads. Can she place her trust in the Alpha, who has emerged as her greatest protector amidst the turmoil? Or should she heed her instincts, which whisper of deeper truths yet to be revealed?
View MoreI walk into a dimly lit bar. Quite a few patrons are sitting around. I would usually sit at the bar. But for some reason, I feel the urge to sit at a table near the back corner of the establishment. A waitress approaches wearing a nearly see-through tight shirt and a short skirt that barely covers her ass. She plastered on a fake smile as she asked, “What will it be?”
Her tone takes me aback. Yes, I might be new to this small town of Darkness Falls, but I am a paying customer. I roll my eyes. “Just get me a whiskey neat.”
She nods before she hurries over to the other tables. She practically offers herself to a few guys. Yes, they are attractive, and perhaps desperate is their type. Her pleas for male attention aren’t of concern to me, however amusing they might be. I am here for answers. I need to find out who those people are in that photo, and if anyone can figure out what anything on this stupid note means. When my mother, Cindy, mysteriously died, I found a note from my missing father, Ed Thomas. It said that he was sorry, but he needed to make the arrangements. The letter was very worn and frayed, but I could make out her name and the word blood.
The note sent chills down my spine because I had devoted myself to studying history, parapsychology, and anthropology. I delved into these fields because over the years, since my father’s absence, my mother raved about all sorts of things from history wars tried to hide to the existence of werewolves and vampires. Now I am in Louisiana, which is known for its sordid history. I know about how Louisiana is considered one of the most haunted cities in the United States, how voodoo, a syncretic religion that emerged in Louisiana with enslaved West Africans, is deeply intertwined with the state's supernatural beliefs. Marie Laveau, a famous Voodoo priestess, is a prominent figure in these stories, and her tomb in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 is a popular destination for those seeking to connect with the supernatural. I learned about the many atrocities that occurred on plantations. Louisiana's vast swamps and marshes are also steeped in lore, with tales of the "Feu Follet" (will-o'-the-wisp) and other mysterious lights luring travelers astray. The Bayou Region is also home to stories of haunted locations and local legends, which I am currently setting in a bar near this region.
Darkness Falls wasn’t listed on any of the historical records I had access to, yet here it is, and it has an odd feel. It isn’t like anyplace I have been to yet. The only place similar would be the French Quarter in New Orleans, but even in such a hotbed for the supernatural, I didn’t feel this pull…this unexplainable connection. Am I close to finding the answers I seek? Is my father here?
Once I finally get my drink, I sip on it as I take out my phone. I open Tinder Vibes and search the profiles of the people listed as nearby. I laugh at this profile. The guy has to be using an AI-generated image for his picture because no average person is that ruggedly handsome. He has chiseled features framed by a tousle of dark hair, giving him an air of confidence that demands attention. His deep-set eyes are a midnight blue that hint at stories untold. I peek up from my phone but don’t see anyone who meets such a depiction, so I go back to scrolling through profiles. Then I get a message from that ruggedly handsome guy. Before I read his message, I looked back at the profile. It now has information that was added. It just has one name, Frank, and a description that reads “I like nature, night strolls under the moonlight, and wild dates. The only thing missing is you.” I laugh because it is so corny. Also, why does every guy think a social media app is a dating app? Anyway, I am not here for a date. It’s been a year since a man touched me, and I don’t miss it.
I finally looked at his message. It says, “Look, I hate to interrupt your night out, but what I have to tell you is important.”
I respond, “Lol. Fine, I will play along for now. I am bored anyway.”
He types quickly, “You have to get out of this bar now. Don’t look around, just go quickly.”
Just who does this guy think he is? What the hell kind of request is that anyway? “Dude, seriously. You need better pickup lines. I don’t give a fuck who you are because you are not my boss, so go fuckoff.” Yeah, I might have been a bit rude, but seriously, who does he think he is?
I let out a breath. “Our journey hasn’t been easy.” I look at the treeline where Cane had stood. “It likely won’t be easy going forward. But, that’s just who I am. I am a complicated mess and extremely opinionated. You accept me for all that I am just as I accept you for all that you are. I vow to you as your Luna, your mate, your alpha, the mother of your child, and as your wife that I will always be honest with you and that I will always love you.” My mark pulses. Frank steps closer. His eyes darken with instinct and tenderness. “One last time.” He leans down. His lips find his mark before his teeth sink in. I feel a pinch of pain before my body floods with warmth. He pulls back. His hands grip my waist. “Your turn, my alpha. Leave your mark.” He tilts his head, exposing his neck.I mark him. He is mine as I am his. As for Cane, that’s something to discuss later, months later. My mark doesn’t look like his. It is reddish…the color of a blood moon. It is done. We are bound. Our lips
Today my life changes forever. We are in the beautiful bayou near the ranch. My hand runs over my dress. I didn’t want a ritual. I didn’t want anything but him. I told Frank that I didn’t want anything werewolf like. He just took my hand and held it as if he had already anticipated my desire. I step forward and that’s when I see Frank. He is standing under a decorated archway. He looks amazing in a suit. I giggle inside. He said he wanted to look good for me, but to me he always had and always will. He looks outwardl calm, but I know how nervous he is. Then his eyes meet mine. He looks upon me as if I am this wild and untamble thing that he dared to love and won. I stand before him in my white wedding dress. I look like the goddess that I feel like I am.He watches me, speechless. He lets out a breath. “You look so gorgeous. You look better than any dream. I almost forgot how to breathe.” He takes my hand. “Are you ready?”I giggle. “Silly question. I was born ready.” He knows how I w
It has been a week. I hadn’t written in my diary in ages. I felt the urge. I need to get everything out. Darkness Falls, changed everything. We waited for Frank to fully recover before we had the farewell ceremony. We buried Scarlet. No one spoke much. I forgave her because in the end, she tried to save me. I don’t hate her, but I don’t miss the drama she brought. During the ceremony, Frank looked every bit the strong Alpha that I know he is. Afterward, he gathered the pack. Any wolves who were left that aided in the attack were punished. I voted for death, but that’s just the demon in me. My wolf is a beast. Who knew? Frank banished some. I let it be his call, but if they try to come at me again, they will die. The ones who helped defend the ranch stayed by Frank’s side. They subjugated themselves to him. It made him feel good. Personally, I am not fond of anyone kneeling to me. I know my worth. But they did pledge their lives to us, so there is that. The pack began to feel whole.
“You need to rest, but I can spare a few minutes.” I slide into bed beside him. He lets out a breath as if he had been holding it. He grins. “This is the best minute I have had in a long time. I missed you so fucking much.” His fingers entertwine in mine. For several minutes, neither of us speaks. Frank turns his head to meet my eyes. “Come here.” I hesitate before I snuggle closer as I make sure not to agitate his injuries. He exhales. He wraps his arm around me. His thumb finds my shoulder. He brushes it along my collarbone. I rest my head near his. This feels amazing to just exist. His hand reaches for my cheek, I lean into his touch. I reach for him too. I run my finger through his hair, over his forehead, to his cheekbone, along his jawline, and over his lips. “You’re really here.”“Of course I am. I never left. And I am not going anywhere now, either.”“I was so scared.”“I wasn’t, at least I wasn’t about my love for you.”“I need you, Sugar. I need all of you.” He grips my wai
“Sugar?”“Who fucking else, Frank. I am here. I am me. I am the Blood Moon Alpha. I am yours, and you are mine.” I hear the Elders snarl behind me and feel one step forward. Fucking cowards. The Elder says, “Step back, girl. This is sacred.”“Girl is the wrong word for me. This isn’t fucking sacr
He has been drugged. His eyes are glassy as a hand hovers over her, but I notice one is clenched at his side. He’s trying to fight it. He’s trying to keep control. Then one of the Elders lifts a cup to his mouth. There’s something thick and dark inside. More wormwood? Or poison? I look at Cane. “Yo
“Sugar?”“Yes, where are you? Frank, talk to me, please.”Oh, my god! Frank answered me! I have to know what is going on. I have to save him as he has saved me. I step off the porch. I close my eyes and try to focus. I don’t want to lose the connection now that I have reestablished it. I know that
He exhales as he rubs the back of his neck. “Fine, no secrets or lies. Yes, I looked a lot. Are you happy now?” He bites his lip. “Maybe I am sorry that I did.”“Then let me help.” My towel slips and I adjust it. He looks away. I hold in a giggle. There is just something so sweetly ironic about thi
