Chapter Five: A Dangerous Revelation

Morning light slipped gently through the window, soft and quiet, stretching across the floor in thin golden lines. The room felt still, almost too still, like time itself was holding its breath. I had barely settled into the silence, barely gathered my thoughts from the restless night before, when another knock came at the door.

It was sharp. Controlled. Familiar.

I already knew who it was.

The same two women from before stepped inside without waiting for permission. They carried fresh clothes folded neatly over their arms, their expressions blank and distant, like this was nothing more than another task to complete.

“Alpha wants you at dinner with the inner circle tonight,” one of them said, her tone flat and professional. “Be ready by seven. Dress well.”

There was no warmth in her voice. No room for questions.

They turned and left just as quickly as they had come, the door closing softly behind them.

I stood there for a moment, staring at the empty space they left behind.

Dinner with the inner circle.

The rest of the day stretched out in front of me, long and quiet. Too quiet. I stayed inside the room, pacing at first, then slowing, then stopping altogether. There was nowhere to go, nowhere to run, but I still needed to understand something.

The bond.

I moved toward the window carefully, testing it again. The moment I stepped too far, the pain came. Sharp. Immediate. It twisted deep inside my chest like something alive, like a warning I could not ignore.

I sucked in a breath and stepped back.

The pain eased, but it did not disappear completely. It lingered, like a reminder.

The golden pull between us stayed there, faint but constant. A quiet thread tying me to him no matter where I stood in the room. No matter how much I wanted to pretend it was not real.

I pressed my hand lightly against my chest.

He felt it too.

By evening, the women returned. This time, they brought the dress.

It was deep red, rich and smooth, the fabric soft between my fingers. When I slipped it on, it clung to my body in a way that made me feel exposed, like it was designed to be seen, to be noticed.

I hesitated for a moment before turning toward the mirror.

The girl staring back at me felt different.

Smaller, somehow.

Quieter.

Like the world around her had grown bigger overnight.

But my eyes… my eyes had changed.

There was something new in them. Something stronger. A quiet fire that had not been there before.

I lifted my chin slightly.I was not going to break,No matter what he wanted,No matter what this place tried to turn me into.

A knock came again, this time heavier.

Two warriors stood outside, waiting to escort me. Neither spoke as we walked. Their silence felt heavy, like everything here was built on control and unspoken rules.

The halls seemed longer tonight. The air colder.

When we finally reached the dining room, I paused for just a second before stepping inside.

The space was large, lit by soft golden light. A long table stretched across the room, set perfectly for a small group. This was not a public gathering.

This was power.

The inner circle.

Julian sat at the head of the table, already in place, his posture relaxed but commanding. He did not need to speak to be noticed. The room seemed to move around him, shaped by his presence alone.

The moment I stepped inside, the bond reacted.Golden light flared between us, sudden and bright. It pulsed in the air like something alive.Conversations stopped.Every head turned.

I felt their eyes on me, heavy and sharp, taking in every detail, every movement.Julian did not stand. He did not greet me.He simply lifted his hand and pointed to the chair beside him.

“Sit.”

The word was calm, but it carried weight.I walked forward and took the seat. The moment I got closer, the pull between us grew stronger. Warmth brushed against my skin, soft at first, then deeper, spreading through me in slow waves.

My wolf stirred quietly, restless, aware.

Dinner began.

Servants moved in silence, placing plates in front of us. The smell of roasted meat and seasoned vegetables filled the air, rich and inviting, but I barely noticed it.

Voices rose around the table, calm discussions about training numbers, patrol schedules, border tensions. It sounded normal on the surface.

But nothing here was truly normal.I stayed quiet, watching, listening.Learning.

Across from me sat Mira Nolan. She looked flawless in green, her posture perfect, her smile polished. But there was something mysterious beneath it. Something cold.

Her eyes kept drifting toward Julian, slow and deliberate. There was no attempt to hide it.Halfway through the meal, Julian’s voice cut through the noise.

“Eat properly. You represent Goldenville now. Do not embarrass me.”

His words were clear enough for others to hear. They landed harder than they should have, but I kept my expression calm.

I picked up my fork and took a slow bite, steady and controlled.

“I will try not to trip over my chains tonight, Alpha.”

The words slipped out smoothly.A few quiet laughs followed, quickly hidden.

Mira’s smile tightened.

Julian leaned closer to me, his presence suddenly overwhelming.

“Be careful,” he murmured, his voice low enough for only me to hear. “This is not the place for your attitude.”

His breath brushed against my neck. The bond reacted instantly.Heat spread through me, sharp and unexpected. My body leaned slightly toward him before I could stop it.I hated that, hated how easily he could affect me.

Mira spoke then, her voice light, almost sweet.

“Selina, tell us about Greenville. It must be difficult coming from such a small pack.”

I looked at her, meeting her gaze without hesitation.

“Small packs survive by being smart,” I said evenly. “We learn to watch before we act.”

Her eyes flickered.

Under the table, Julian’s hand settled on my thigh. The touch was firm, not gentle, it was like a warning.Heat spread through the thin fabric of the dress, stronger this time. My breath caught slightly, but I forced myself to stay still.I would not give him that satisfaction.

Dinner continued, but the real tension was not in the words being spoken. It was in everything left unsaid. The glances. The silence. The glowing bond between us that refused to be ignored.Everyone saw it.Everyone understood what it meant.

When dessert was finished, Julian dismissed most of the table.Only a few remained. His beta,Mira, and a couple of high-ranking members.

Then the door opened.A scout rushed in, his face tense, his breathing uneven. He stepped forward quickly and handed Julian a sealed report.

Julian reads it in silence. His expression shifted almost immediately. His jaw tightened.

“What is it?” the beta asked.

Julian folded the paper slowly.

“A rival scout was caught near our eastern border,” he said. “He carried information about an unclaimed mate in Goldenville. They know she is here. They are planning to take her.”

The room went still.

Unclaimed.

The word echoed in my mind.Because it was true,he had not marked me, the bond between us was still incomplete.

Mira’s lips curved slightly.“Then she should be kept closer,” for protection she said smoothly. Julian did not respond to her.His eyes were already on me.This time, there was something different in them.Something deeper.Fear.

He stood abruptly.Dinner is over. Selina, come with me.I rose without arguing, his hand closed around my arm as we walked out, his grip firm, almost too tight.

The halls felt colder now.

Quieter.

The bond between us steadied as we moved closer together, but my thoughts would not stop racing.

When we reached my room, he pushed the door open and stepped inside with me. He closed it behind us with a quiet click.

“You will not leave this area without me or Ethan,” he said. No more thought of running and no more funny games.

I turned to face him fully.

“They want me because I am your weakness.” The words came out before I could stop them.He stepped closer. The space between us disappeared.

“You are not a weakness,” he said, his voice lower now. “You are mine to protect. Even if I hate how much I need to.”

For a brief moment, his mask slipped and I saw everything he tried to hide.Conflict.Desire.Fear.Then the knock came, loud and urgent. Julian moved to the door and opened it.The same scout stood there, pale and breathing hard.

“Alpha,” he said quickly. “The scout spoke before he died. He revealed something worse. The rival Alpha believes the girl is more than your mate. Old records say she may be the key to breaking the veil curse. They are coming at dawn with full force.”

The words hit like ice.

The air in the room changed instantly. The scout swallowed and continued. They also said if they take her, your wolf will begin to break within days. Because the bond is not complete.”

Julian turned slowly toward me with his face full of shock. The bond between us flared brighter than ever and the golden light almost blinding now.My chest tightened painfully while the feeling inside me twisted into something deeper.Something dangerous.

The scout hesitated for a second before speaking again.

“There is more.”

The room seemed to hold its breath.

“The records say she is not who she thinks she is. Selina Williams was never meant to be in Greenville.”

My heart stopped.

“She was hidden there,” he finished quietly. “On purpose.”

Silence filled the room once more.Heavy,Unmoving.And in that silence, I realized one thing, nothing about my life had ever been what I believed.

And everything was about to change.

My father called for another test the next morning. He wanted to understand the fragment’s reaction to Cesar under controlled conditions, the same way we had tested Elara’s fragment days before.I was not looking forward to it.We gathered in the small chamber again. My father, Julian, Cesar, and me. Elara had asked to be present too, claiming she wanted to understand the third fragment better, though I suspected she simply wanted to watch.Julian stood close to me the entire time, his hand resting on my lower back like he needed the contact to stay calm.“We will start slow,” my father said. “Cesar, take three steps toward Selina and stop.”Cesar nodded and crossed the room carefully. I felt the fragment stir as the distance closed, a low hum building in my chest. He stopped exactly three steps away, and the hum settled into something steady, almost comfortable.“How does that feel?” my father asked me.“Manageable,” I said. “Like background noise.”“Cesar?”“The same,” he said. “Qui

Julian led me away from the courtyard without speaking. We walked through the side corridor until we reached our room, and only then did he turn to face me.“What was that,” he said. His voice was tight, controlled in the way that meant he was working hard to keep it that way.“What was what?”“You and Cesar. Standing there. Talking like…” He stopped himself and exhaled hard. “Like there was something between you.”“Julian, you saw how the fragment reacted. We were only trying to understand it.”“That is not what I saw.” He paced to the window and back. “I saw the way he looked at you. I saw the way you looked back. Do not tell me that was just about the fragment.”I felt my own temper rise to meet his. “Are you accusing me of something?”“No.” He stopped pacing and faced me directly. “I am telling you how it felt to watch my mate stand close to a stranger and have something pass between you that I could not touch.”The words landed harder than I expected. I thought of Elara, of the we

  • Bound To The Ruthless Alpha   Chapter 78:The Third fragments

The morning after the vision, the pack gates opened for a visitor.I was crossing the courtyard with Julian when Hector came striding toward us, a wide smile on his face I had not seen from him before.“My nephew is here,” he said. “Cesar. He has been traveling for two years. I did not expect him until next month.”Julian raised an eyebrow. “The wanderer finally comes home.”“He always did things on his own schedule,” Hector said, already turning to walk toward the gate. “Come. You should meet him.”I followed, the fragment inside me strangely still, like it was holding its breath. The gate opened and a man stepped through leading a tired horse. He was tall and handsome with dark hair pulled back and a travel cloak dusted with road dirt. He looked around the compound with the calm attention of someone used to walking into unfamiliar places. Then his eyes found me.The fragment inside my chest exploded.I gasped and grabbed Julian’s arm. Pain shot through my ribs, sharp and sudden, lik

Two days passed.Elara kept her distance. She still came to meals. She still trained in the yard. But she did not seek me out and she did not seek Julian out either. She moved through the pack like someone working something out in her head.I tried not to watch her too closely. It was hard. The fragment inside me stayed quiet most of the time. But every so often, usually at night, it stirred. Not painfully. Just a slow turning, like it was trying to remember something. On the third night it woke me up completely.I sat up in bed gasping. Julian woke instantly beside me, his hand already on my arm.“Selina. What is it?”“I do not know.” My chest felt tight. Not from pain. From pressure. Like the fragment was pushing against something from the inside. “It feels different tonight.”“Different how?”“Like it wants out.”Julian was already pulling on a shirt. “I am getting your father.”My father arrived within minutes, hair messy, eyes sharp despite the hour. He sat on the edge of the bed

  • Bound To The Ruthless Alpha   Chapter 76: The Morning After

I woke up before dawn. The fragment was still there. Sitting quiet inside me like a second heartbeat. Not painful. Not loud. Just present. Like a house guest who had moved in and was trying not to make noise.I lay still and listened to it.Julian’s arm was heavy across my waist. His breathing was slow and even. I did not want to wake him so I stayed still and thought about everything.Elara had agreed to the link. She had let me anchor her fragment. But she had also looked me in the eye and told me she had not stepped back. That she still wanted my mate. She did not pretend. I had to give her that. But it also meant last night changed nothing between us except the power arrangement. She was still my rival. Just a more stable one now.I slipped out from under Julian’s arm and went to the window. The sky was dark purple at the edges. The pack grounds were quiet below. My wolf stirred and nudged the fragment gently. Testing it. The fragment pushed back. Not hard. Just enough to say it w

  • Bound To The Ruthless Alpha   Chapter 75: Blood To Blood

My father stared at me for a long time.“That is either very smart,” he said, “or very dangerous.”“Can it work?” I asked. He picked up the old book and turned the pages slowly. His finger traced lines of old writing. The candle flickered between us as I waited.“There is something here,” he said finally. He turned the book toward me. The writing was faded but I could make out a few words. Bloodline direction. Shared source. Carrier to carrier.“What does it say?” I asked.“It says that when two carriers share the same bloodline, they can form a direct link,” he said. “Not through a mate bond, but through the bloodline itself. You would anchor her fragment and keep it from drifting.”“And the risk?”“If the link goes wrong the fragment could pull from you instead. It could drain your connection to the origin point. And weaken you from the inside.”“But if it works?”“If it works,” he said quietly, “Elara stays stable. Julian stays out of it. Your bond stays clean.”“Then we try it,” I
