Jane's POV

The idea refused to leave my head even after Josephine tried to convince me otherwise, even after she kept giving me reasons why it was reckless and dangerous, the thought stayed rooted inside me like a stubborn flame refusing to die.

Fire was the only weapon I had because everyone understood fear and fire understood destruction. So maybe destruction was the only language they deserved.

“Jane,” she called again. “Think about this properly.”

I didn’t answer.

My eyes stayed fixed on t

Jane's POVI was still trying to convince myself that I hadn't imagined Alana. My sister? My sister was actually in front of me. The same question echoed through my mind every time I looked at the woman sitting across from me.Alana. What was she doing alone in the woods? Why did she decide to have a house here? Did she have a family? Was she alone?I had a lot of questions to ask but I didn't know how to start. Meanwhile my sister looked like she wasn't bothered. Like meeting your long lost sister in a strange place was a normal thing. "You'll both sleep comfortably tonight,” she said. Neither Lauren nor I answered immediately.Sleeping was the last thing on my mind. Not after everything I had been through. Still, I couldn't deny that something about her made me feel strangely calm. She knelt in front of me with a wooden bowl filled with warm water."May I?" She gestured toward the scratches on my arm.I hesitated briefly before nodding. She dipped a clean cloth into the water a

Jane's POVEvery breath scraped against my throat as Lauren and I ran through the forest without looking back. Branches slapped against my arms, roots threatened to trip me with every step, leaves whipped across my face, but I didn't care. All I could think about was putting as much distance as possible between us and Theo."Jane..." Lauren gasped beside me. "Slow down...""We can't.""What if..." she started but I didn't let her finish. "He'll come after us."I tightened my grip around her wrist and pulled her over another fallen tree. Even if she was tired, my little strength was enough for us. "He knows these woods better than we do," I added."We've been running for too long," she said. “I don't think he can catch up with us.”"We can't assume that," I said immediately. “Underestimating Theo was my first mistake. We can do the same thing again.”The image of Theo rubbing his head while glaring at me flashed through my mind.I hadn't hit him hard enough to knock him unconscious.

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane's POVThe deeper we walked into the forest, the more uneasy I became.Theo walked confidently ahead of us as though he owned every tree, every rock, every inch of the wilderness. Lauren walked beside me in silence. Every now and then our eyes met, and without speaking, we encouraged each other to remain calm.Running now would be foolish because Theo knew these woods better than we did. If we made one wrong turn, we would only become lost while he hunted us down like prey. So the only thing we could do was listen. People who loved talking always revealed more than they intended. Unfortunately, Theo loved talking."I hope you've realized by now that choosing me is the smartest decision you'll ever make," he said over his shoulder.I rolled my eyes."You've said that at least ten times already.""Because it's true.""No," I replied. "Because you're trying to convince yourself."He didn't say anything and I didn't either. The trees gradually gave way to a rocky area, and before lo

Alpha Liam's POVThe journey home felt different this time. When I left home, my mind had been consumed by questions.Questions about the Book of Life. Questions about the president. Questions about Dysebel. Now, every one of those questions had answers. Another Book of Life rested safely inside my satchel because the president had finally trusted me enough to hand it over. And Dysebel had been forced to remain behind. For the first time in days, it felt like one burden had been lifted from my shoulders. And now, there was only one thing left to do.Jane.A smile found its way onto my face before I even realized it.I had spent the entire journey thinking about what I would say to her. I had rehearsed it over and over in my head. I would apologize again. Not because I hadn't apologized before. But because she deserved to hear it as many times as necessary.I would tell her about the president. I would tell her about how Dysebel was no longer following me. Most importantly, I would te

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane's POV"LAUREN!"My scream echoed through the forest as I stared upward.Lauren dangled high above the ground inside the massive net, twisting helplessly as the ropes tightened around her body. Every movement she made only seemed to make things worse."Jane!" she cried."I'm coming!"I didn't even think before jumping towards the tree. My claws shot out instantly and the bark cracked beneath my fingers as I began to climb. I had barely reached a few feet above the ground when something sharp sliced across my palm.I hissed as I nearly lost my grip."What?"I looked closer and saw thin silver wires wrapped around the sections of the tree. They were almost invisible. Whoever built this trap knew exactly what they were doing. It wasn't made for humans, it was made for werewolves.I dropped back to the ground and immediately tried something else.My claws slashed at the ropes hanging from the net.The moment my claws touched them, a burning pain shot through my fingers.I jerked bac

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane's POVThe farther we moved away from the house, the lighter I felt. I wasn't happy or excited about anything. I just felt lighter from within. Liam was still away and our relationship was still hanging by a thread I wasn't sure either of us knew how to repair. And somewhere out there, Aria, Theo, Mira, and Ronan were still alive, doing only God knows what. The world was far from peaceful, but for the first time in days, I felt like I was moving toward something purposeful instead of grieving and reacting to tragedy. The mysterious letter had given me purpose, direction, mission, and that was exactly what I needed to keep my mind busy. Lauren walked beside me, carrying a small satchel over her shoulder while I held the folded map safely like my life depended on it. Actually, this mission depended on the map. Losing it meant losing our way. Lauren kicked a small stone along the path. "You know," she said suddenly, "I never imagined I would leave the house like this.""Like wha

Alpha Liam's POV I woke before the sun did. Even before the birds started singing. Before anyone in the castle stirs awake. The room was still as I turned to the person beside me. Jane's POV “Josephine, what should I do today? • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane's POV The house was quiet. The hallway was quiet, almost too quiet for a house. The housekeeper stopped in front of a door and turned to me."I'm Josephine, and this is your room," she said gently.I only nodded. I didn’t have the strength or maybe the will to say anything to her or anyone. A
