Chapter 3

Author: Ferrycraft
I struggled against the bodyguards' forceful grip, but they held tighter and pulled me toward the operating room.

I clawed desperately at the doorframe, refusing to let go. "You can't do this to me, Nicholas!" I yelled in a fit of rage. "I'm the one carrying the baby! It has nothing to do with the Jordan family! What makes you think you can make that decision for me?"

Clara stood to the side and let out a mocking laugh. "Of course, it has nothing to do with the Jordan family! Who knows how many guys you've been with, or whose kid that actually is! You want Nicholas to raise someone else's baby? Dream on, Lillian!"

Nicholas' expression hardened further, his demeanor staying chillingly detached.

I could only humble myself and plead, "I'll leave with the baby! The doctor said a miscarriage could damage my uterus. I might never be able to have children again! Please tell them to let me go, Nicholas!"

There was a flicker of hesitation on Nicholas' face, and just as he was about to speak, Clara cut him off. "That's easy for you to say! You'll just show up and force Nicholas to marry you once the baby is born!

"I mean, the Jordan family is prestigious and wealthy, and anyone with a brain would never let go of this opportunity to latch onto a wealthy man like Nicholas, let alone a gold digger like you! You aren't actually going to let her fool you again, are you, Nicholas?"

I held onto the operating room door handle with a death grip, a raging fire burning in my chest as I glared intensely at Clara. "I belong to the Naughton family from Halport! I'm rich beyond measure! Why would I ever latch onto something as insignificant as the Jordan family? Get your hands off me this instant!"

Nicholas' brief moment of sympathy dried up, his expression instantly hardening again. He then scoffed and said, "Lillian, you crossed the line when you started using the Naughton family to swindle people, so losing the baby will be your price to pay for what you've done."

He pried my fingers from the handle one by one and then barked out a cold order. "Get her into the OR!"

I was forcefully held down on the operating table as the doctor injected the anesthetic. I helplessly mustered every bit of strength left in me and cried out toward the door, "I hate you, Nicholas!"

I caught sight of him freezing up right before the door closed, a tear of pure despair tracking down his face. I then lost consciousness as the cold surgical instruments entered my body.

I was completely alone by the time I regained consciousness. I placed my hand over my belly, where a tiny life had been inside me just hours ago. I couldn't hold it any longer and broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.

Mom and Dad called me after receiving the notice from the Jordan family that the wedding was off. They immediately rushed to comfort me the moment they heard how hoarse I sounded over the phone. "Please don't cry, Lillian. Your father and I will come over to back you up right this second!"

I hummed softly in agreement, sniffling slightly.

Mom and Dad caught the earliest flight available, so I went to the airport to pick them up.

I unexpectedly crossed paths with Nicholas and his circle of hangers-on, and the instant Clara saw me, she sidled over with a smug grin. "You look perfectly healthy to me! You clearly fake the pregnancy, Lillian!"

Nicholas sized me up before letting out a sigh of relief as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He then looked at me with pure contempt and said coldly, "You'd better get out of here this instant. A VIP is arriving today, and this isn't a place for a gold digger like you to be hanging around!"

I glared at them, barely containing my anger. "Who are you to tell me what to do? Do you own the airport now?"

Clara suddenly got excited. She summoned the security guards, covering her nose and mouth in disgust.

"How could you just let anyone in when Mr. and Mrs. Naughton from Naughton Group are arriving today? Hurry up and kick her out! She's a notorious gold digger who targets wealthy men! If she causes a delay in the cooperation between Caldoria and Halport, it will cost you your jobs and more!"

It was then that the security guard approached with an apologetic expression, saying, "I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to relocate to another area."

I suppressed the rage in my chest and glared at Nicholas and Clara. "Does the airport have a regulation that forbids people from picking up arrivals? I'm just waiting for my parents. They're on the next flight, and I'll leave the minute they land."

Clara burst out laughing, putting her arms around the group of friends around her. "What kind of parents could you possibly have, Lillian? You're obviously just here to see if you can luck out and find your next rich target. How about you show the rest of us how you go about hitting on wealthy men?"

Upon hearing that, I couldn't help but laugh out loud. Nicholas might as well have claimed it was all a misunderstanding. At least then I might have thought he was capable of holding his ground. I looked at him indifferently and asked, "You claim you couldn't back down in front of your friends, but what about my baby? You personally caused the death of our baby, Nicholas!"Nicholas' face turned deathly pale as he looked down at my belly. He was so shocked by the revelation that he lost his footing and dropped to the floor. He was shaking violently as he stammered, "Y-You were actually pregnant?"I had no desire to offer him any further explanations, so I directly pushed him aside and closed the door. That day, Mom and Dad immediately booked a flight back to Halport. Before leaving, Dad filed a lawsuit in my name against Clara for slander and defamation. At the same time, he pulled Gunter Group's retail counters from the Naughton Group. In the meantime, once the Gunters were targe

Having just acted out of fierce protection for Clara, Mark and Carrie fell into a state of panic upon seeing Mom and Dad, whom they assumed had already left for Halport. The shock only deepened when they realized their retail counters had been stripped from the Naughton Group.Naughton Group held a monopoly over high-end shopping malls throughout Halport and Caldoria, where only top-tier brands were granted entry, and the clientele required asset verification of over a billion dollars, making them the core consumers in both Bellevue and Halport. The Gunter family had spent six months staking out Halport last year just to get Naughton Group to agree to a partnership. They had assumed they could intimidate me since I was alone, but now their faces had turned deathly pale. They immediately began bowing and scraping, saying, "It's nothing more than a minor squabble between our children, Mr. Naughton, so surely it shouldn't affect our business relationship!"Dad let out a derisive chuc

Those people brought by Clara's parents wanted to drag me up from the hospital bed, but the bodyguards obstructed their path. As such, they resorted to throwing and smashing objects in the hospital ward because they had nowhere else to vent their anger."Who cares if Naughton Group is the biggest deal in Halport? You're currently in Bellevue! You don't get to act this lawlessly on my turf! You ought to know that you can't throw your weight around and bully my daughter just because you're rich!"I looked at the hatred written all over Clara's face before turning to her parents. "Did Clara ever tell you why she got slapped?"I had someone pull up the recording of Clara's live stream, along with the surveillance footage of her calling me a gold digger who tricked men into marriage. I held the evidence in front of the Gunters and said coldly, "Clara was the one who started this. She even hired two beggars to pose as my parents just to destroy my reputation. "You stormed into my hosp

It was then that the bodyguard threw Doreen aside.Doreen kept struggling and yelling, "I was standing up for you against that shameless bitch, Mrs. Naughton! How could you let your bodyguard lay hands on me?"Mom's gaze was cold and piercing as she looked down at the woman sprawled on the ground. She then spoke in a frigid, menacing tone, snarling, "That bitch you spoke of is my daughter! You actually have the audacity to insult and attack her right in front of me, huh? It's clear to me that the Jordan family never treated my daughter like a human being!"Nicholas' parents' expression shifted instantly as they looked at me in disbelief. "W-What do you mean? Didn't Nicholas say that you were just a mere gold digger? How could you be the heiress of the Naughton family?"Doreen was the first to snap out of it. She seemed to realize the endless perks of being in-laws with the Naughton family, as she set aside everything else and shamelessly approached me with a flattering smile. "It

Mom and Dad had always treated me like their absolute world, meaning they were never going to let anyone who mistreated me off easy. They handed wooden batons to the bodyguards with grim expressions and said, "You are to hit them back twice as hard, based on the number of times they hit Lillian earlier."That pair of fake parents tried to scramble back in terror, but the bodyguards seized them by their legs, pinning them completely in place. Their agonized shrieks echoed through the surroundings, causing the other men who had verbally abused and assaulted me to shrink back in fear. They finally recognized Mom and Dad as the all-powerful magnates of Halport after witnessing their commanding demeanor and the emerald pendant unique to the Naughton family. They fell to their knees in sheer panic, pleading for mercy, but Mom and Dad ordered someone to get the surveillance footage, saying, "You'd better not think you can get away from this!"Nicholas was the most terrified of all. It was then that Mom suddenly arrived with a large entourage of bodyguards, surrounding everyone at the scene. She then ordered in a voice brimming with fury, "Go take down everyone here who picked on my daughter just now. Don't let a single one go! I'd like to see who thinks they're above the law here!"I watched Mom and Dad approach, my eyes instantly welling up with tears as a wave of hurt and grievance washed over me.In the meantime, the pair of beggars, intimidated by Mom and Dad's commanding presence, didn't dare stir up any more trouble. They instantly scrambled to their feet on all fours. They tried to slip through a gap in the crowd unnoticed, but the bodyguards blocked their path.Nicholas and Clara spotted the emerald pendant unique to the Naughton family on Dad and recognized it right away, breaking out into a cold sweat.Clara, still unwilling to accept the truth, cautiously stepped forward toward Mom.
