Chapter 4

Author: Crystal K
I was left all alone in the rubble.

At the bottom of the cliff was an abandoned trap. Rusty silver arrows coated in Wolfsbane pierced right through my body.

Warm blood poured out, dyeing my white fur red.

At the edge of my vision, Ronan carried Bianca to safety. He completely disappeared.

The poison spread fast. Endless darkness dragged me down.

"Goddess! Lady Lyra!"

The hunting Elder’s panicked shout shattered the silence.

The Elders put my dying body on a stretcher and rushed me to the healer’s cabin.

The cabin reeked of blood.

The Head Healer yelled frantically: "The Wolfsbane is nearing her heart! Quick! Get the last Moonflower!"

"Hold it!"

A cold, commanding voice interrupted.

Ronan strode into the cabin. He was still tightly holding the unharmed, sobbing Bianca.

"Give the Moonflower to Bianca," Ronan ordered coldly. "She suffered a massive shock."

The Head Healer’s eyes went wide.

"Alpha! The Moonflower is the only cure! Lady Lyra was pierced by poisoned arrows! If we pull the arrows out without the Moonflower protecting her heart, it will kill her!"

Ronan looked down at me. Zero pity. Only heavy disgust.

"She brought this on herself," Ronan sneered. His tone was heartless. "She was jealous. She tried to murder Bianca. She fell into the trap herself. I will not waste our best medicine on a murderer."

"But..."

"No buts. Just pull the arrows out. This is her punishment."

Ronan’s tone left no room for debate.

"Do it!" he barked.

Pack warriors pinned down my limbs.

No painkillers. No herbs.

The Healer’s hands shook. The blade sliced into my rotting flesh.

The tearing agony ripped through my entire body. I bit my lip. Blood dripped down my chin.

Ronan stood a few steps away.

He covered Bianca’s eyes. He watched coldly as I thrashed in a pool of my own blood.

Right in the middle of this absolute despair, something snapped.

The fated mate bond. The very tie the Moon Goddess gave us.

It snapped clean in half.

The fated mate bond shattered. All the love and obsession washed away.

Only a cold, dead silence remained in my heart.

I stopped struggling. I peacefully closed my eyes.

A few steps away, Ronan suddenly froze. He violently clutched his chest. A terrifying emptiness hit his soul.

I saw him grit his teeth. He thought I was just throwing a tantrum. He thought I was just temporarily blocking our bond out of spite.

He didn’t know it wasn't a block. The bond was dead.

...

The next day.

The Elders' Council Hall.

I changed into a solemn ceremonial robe to cover my bandages. I pushed through my broken body and walked into the hall.

Ronan arrived late. He was still holding Bianca’s hand, looking arrogant.

Seeing me, a knowing smirk touched his lips.

"Since Lyra dragged her sick body here, it means she knows she was wrong," Ronan lifted his chin. "I announce we will reopen the Luna Selection Ceremony."

He was so sure I was here to beg him.

However.

The Grand Elder cut him off.

He raised his staff high into the air.

"The Moon Goddess has spoken!"

"Lyra Crestwood’s old bond is completely broken!"

The crowd gasped. Ronan’s smirk froze.

"The Moon Goddess has guided a new mate! I hereby announce Silas North of the Frostfang Pack as the new Alpha King!"

"Lyra will mate with Silas!"
