MasukSloane's pov.
The world tilted around me and every sound disappeared like it had totally been ripped away by someone.
My lips parted but nothing came out. My fingers tightened around the phone until they began to shake.
No.
That couldn't be right.
Carl can't be dying…..
The moment I dropped the call, I bolted out of the room, rushing down the stairs and nearly twisting my ankle as I ran.
“Sloane, what's the problem?” Hannah asked, but it was definitely not the time to respond.
Panic heightened in my chest and I clutched my dress all throughout the ride to the hospital. When the car stopped, I stormed out before the driver could speak a word.
Inside the hospital,
I ran through the hospital hallway, my vision blurred with tears. My head was in a frenzy and it was hard to process any other thing except Carl.
I didn't realize I wasn't focused on where I was headed until I slammed into someone and hit the floor hard.
The feeling of pain shot through my palm and I groaned.
“Watch it, bitch!” A masculine voice snapped.
“I'm sorry” I apologized breathlessly.
My head was bowed.
My voice was shaky.
I didn't even look at his face, I couldn't. All I could think about was Carl…. I need to get to him.
I dragged my body up and resumed racing down the hallway to the elevator, heading to the second floor where Carl's ward was.
I clicked the elevator button over and over, with my hands trembling and my breath shaky.
“Come on…. Please…..” I pleaded in a whisper, but it didn't open. Both elevators were in use.
I looked around in panic until my face landed on the stairs. I left no room for hesitation and rushed to the stairs, climbing relentlessly until I got to the second floor.
“Ward 107” I chanted repeatedly in my head, then I saw her.
Nurse Celia.
She was standing in front of Carl's door, fidgeting with her fingers. Her face still looked unsettled and that made something drop inside me.
That moment, I prayed….
I hoped….
I sincerely hoped Carl was fine.
I didn't say a word to her. I rushed past her and opened the door to the ward.
Carl was on the bed, the oxygen mask still covering his nose and mouth.
I stopped and for a moment, I forgot to breathe and only watched him. Carl's eyes were closed but his chest moved, slow and steady and I breathed out in relief.
He's alive….. he's still breathing.
That alone was enough.
I moved closer, sitting beside him and holding his hand.
The machine stats were normal, his breathing was also fine and so was everything else.
“Carl….” The tears that had blurred my vision finally spilled freely down my face.
He was like this even before Mom died. The doctors said he had cystic fibrosis and his lungs were slowly being eaten away. They said he's too young to have the surgery yet, and needs to live on oxygen until he can take it.
“Miss…..” Nurse Celia's voice rose behind me and my face snapped.
I wiped my tears with the back of my hand and stood to face her.
“You said he was dying…..” I gulped, still trying to control my emotions. “He looks totally fine”
Before the nurse could respond, the door opened behind her and the doctor walked in.
“His oxygen mask will be taken off in an hour,” he said. “If that mask comes off, you know he won't last long”
My eyes blinked.
Yes, I know. His oxygen mask gets removed only when he needs to take his meal and in less than fifteen minutes, it gets returned.
“What do you mean, doc?” My voice trembled and my eyes roamed in confusion. “Why will you take the mask off?”
“You’ve been given instructions” he said, pronouncing the words like he was reading them from a script. “Alpha Bianchi told me to relay that to you”
Alpha Bianchi.
That was Dad.
My heart clenched.
I stumbled backwards and shook my head sideways, lips parted in disbelief.
“No…. That can't be….”
Dad can't leave Carl to die just because I refused to marry Lucien Collins.
“No” I stepped closer to the doctor and exclaimed. “You are a doctor, you can't do that to a sick eight year old kid!”
“I'm sorry” The doctor’s lips pressed into a thin line, the kind of pitiful look I've always hated appearing on his face. “The alpha said the clock is ticking”
He turned to leave but I blocked his path and grabbed his coat. Tears filled my eyes once again, this time, they spilled down like raindrops.
“No, a doctor won't do this to a patient..” I cried. “You know what happens if you take that off”
The doctor's jaws clenched.
He moved his hand slowly and forced my hand off his coat.
“If I take that mask off, I lose my license” he paused. “If I don't, I lose my life”
“Do you get it now, Miss Sloane?”
My legs buckled and I fell to the floor. The doctor moved past me and nurse Celia followed after him. My eyes trailed down the room slowly until they landed on Carl.
His brown hair was slicked to the back, and his tiny frame laid unconscious in the bed.
One hour.
That was all I had to save him.
From where I sat dejectedly on the ground, I saw his eyes flutter open.
Quickly, I cleaned my tears and headed to his side. Carl saw me and a small smile tugged at his lips under the mask.
“You are awake” I took my seat beside him and held his hand, smiling as widely as I could.
I didn't want him to see the pain in my eyes, the heart wrenching pain behind my sweet smile.
He nodded slowly and my smile widened. “Such a good boy”
I knew I had no time to waste, I had to meet with Dad quickly.
I've lived with him for five years and I know the kind of man he is. He won't hesitate to leave Carl without the mask, leaving him to meet his death.
I can't let that happen.
Carl is the only good thing that has ever happened to me.
“I'll be back, Carl” I stood up and ruffled his hair. “Don't miss me too much”
He nodded.
I walked out of the room hurriedly, and soon, I was standing in front of the mansion.
I stared at the mansion and my chest tightened, heart hammering. Once again, I had acted so foolish for an Omega with no wolf, and that had almost cost me Carl.
Now, there was no way out of this.
Not when Carl's life was the price that had been set on the line.
Sloane's POVBy the time I reached the front entrance of the Alpha's residence, the morning air was still cool enough to carry the scent of pine through the courtyard.I expected another trip to Blackstone Company. After everything I'd witnessed yesterday, I had spent half the night replaying every conversation, every expression, every tiny detail I could remember. There were still so many questions I wanted answered, especially about how Lucien managed an empire that seemed to extend far beyond the pack itself. So when Lucien stepped outside dressed in another perfectly tailored black suit, I instinctively moved toward the waiting SUV."You won't be coming with me today."I stopped mid-step."What?"His expression remained calm, but I recognized the firmness in his voice."Ryan has prepared a different schedule for you."I frowned."I thought we were continuing my training at Blackstone.""We are," he replied, "just not today."He adjusted the cuff of his jacket before meeting my eye
Lucien's POVWe were about to get into the car when one of the security guards walked up to me with a frown on his face.He looked worried and from his expression, I could tell there was a problem. “What is it?” I asked and immediately he stretched out his hand and gave me a file.“We have successfully gone through the footage and some files relating to the border, and a particular elder's name keeps coming up.” He said.“Whose name?” I asked, turning to look at Ryan, but within me, I already knew who we were dealing with.“I don't think it is right for me to disclose the name here. Please head to the security department and find out what they have.” I nodded at once and got into the car.“So what do you think?” Sloane asked after a minute of silence.I sighed tiredly and looked out of the window. “I think I know who the elder is, and if I am correct, I will have to do an intense investigation and a proper way of bringing him in to face the law," I replied.I heard Ryan snorting, and
Sloane's POVThe executive floor remained unusually quiet after Mason Carter finally left the building.Even so, I couldn't shake the uneasy feeling he'd left behind. It clung to me like a shadow."I'm fine."Lucien looked at me as though I had just said the most ridiculous thing he'd ever heard."I didn't ask."His calm reply only irritated me further."I can take care of myself.""I never said you couldn't.""Then why are you insisting I stay on this floor?"We stood in the hallway outside the training room while employees discreetly pretended not to notice the conversation happening between their Alpha and Luna.Lucien folded his arms across his chest."Because Mason Carter ignored my warning.""He left.""He ignored me twice.""So?"His silver eyes narrowed."So someone willing to challenge my authority inside my own company isn't someone I'm willing to underestimate."I sighed, rubbing my temples."I don't like feeling like I'm being guarded every second.""You aren't being guard
Lucien's POVThe moment Mason Carter walked into the conference room, every pleasant thought I'd entertained since arriving at the company vanished. His tailored charcoal suit and polished shoes couldn't hide what he truly was.A predator.Ryan stopped arranging the meeting files and looked at me from the corner of his eye."I was hoping the report was wrong," he muttered."So was I."Mason smiled as though we were old friends."Alpha."I acknowledged him with nothing more than a cold stare."My father sends his apologies," Mason continued smoothly. "An urgent council matter prevented him from attending.""I wasn't asking for an explanation."His smile remained firmly in place."I've been authorized to represent Elder Theodore today."Of course he had.Theodore knew exactly what he was doing.Yesterday, I had thrown his son into the dungeon.Today, he had found the only legal way to force me into the same room with him.Ryan leaned closer."We verified it with the Elder's office.""I
Sloane's POVThe first thing I noticed when I woke up was warmth; the second was that the warmth belonged to Lucien. My eyes flew open, and his arm was still draped around my waist, his breathing steady against the back of my neck. For one embarrassing second, I stayed perfectly still, wondering how I had managed to spend the entire night in his arms again. This is becoming a terrible habit. Very carefully, I tried lifting his arm, but it didn't budge. I tried again, and I let out a frustrated sigh."I know you're awake." His sleepy voice startled me enough that I nearly elbowed him in the ribs."I am not trying to escape," I muttered."No?""No.""Then why are you wrestling with my arm?" He asked as I frowned."Because it's heavy," I replied truthfully. A chuckle rumbled behind me. "I'll take that as a compliment." He said as I turned to glare at him."It wasn't."His eyes finally opened, amusement dancing in them. "You stayed.""I fell asleep.""In my arms.""Purely accidental," I r
Sloane's POVRyan excused himself the moment we arrived, claiming he had reports to finish before nightfall, leaving Lucien and me walking side by side toward the mansion.Neither of us spoke and I still couldn't stop thinking about what had happened in court. An Alpha had objected and the elders had overruled him. Mason had walked free. The image of his smile made my stomach twist and without realizing it, I wrapped my arms around myself."You've been quiet." Lucien's voice broke through my thoughts. "I've just been thinking.""I know." I glanced at him. "You do?""You've been wearing the same expression since we left the council chamber." I sighed. "I just don't understand.""What?""If you're the Alpha... why couldn't you stop them?" He was silent for a long moment before answering."Being Alpha doesn't mean I make every decision alone.""It looked like they ignored you.""They challenged me.""Isn't that worse?" A small smile tugged at his lips. "Sometimes." We climbed the steps
Sloane's POVHis chest heaved upwards and took a lot of time heaving downwards. Tonight, I wasn't Sloane, the naive girl who wrote a letter to her crush. I was Sloane, the contract wife of Lucien. His cock stood erect between his thighs, the veins pulsed quickly with each breath he took and one thoug
Sloane's pov.I gasped when Lucien swept me off the floor, placing me on the bed. He didn't lean away from me and his face was dangerously close that I was forced to gulp. His body was pressed against my naked boobs and his hand reached out to my back. I subconsciously arched away from the bed, let
Sloane's pov. They say Omegas’ don't matter. They reminded us that we are nothing. Thus, someone like me can't dream to be with someone like Lucien. What he did to me back in college also confirmed it.Omegas' like me are treated like we don't belong and I've been made to live with that truth every
Sloane's pov.A knock on Dad's study was all it took. I didn't wait for permission before I twisted the doorknob and pushed the door open.Dad was seated on the swivel chair, his hand tapping slowly on the desk. “You really want to do this?” I stopped in front of him and asked. Our eyes locked an
