LOGIN"I ran for freedom, but he caught me in the dark."

Rebecca cried out as the tape left her lips as a painful peel. It was like they were on fire. Diego was standing tall before her now, serpentine green eyes glaring at her. Rebecca wasn't sure she'd seen a real human being with green eyes before. "Your turn," he said.
As much as she had wanted to scream out, she managed in a soft whisper, "four days? It's been four days?"
"Yes, love. Four days and counting," Diego said with that arrogant smug on his face again. "Now, I take it that we're on board with my little lecture?"
Someone pounced on the door, well it seemed it was his attempt for a knock. They both turned to face the door. Then a man entered, "Sir, Marco is back with news. I just hope he came alone and hadn't been followed. He's badly hurt and has been taken in--"
Diego gave what Rebecca picked like a signal and the man shut up immediately, gave a low bow and went out. Rebecca wondered how much had been true. Of course she was in a dangerous zone and knew just how, well, dangerous it could be around here. She swallowed, "who-what's going on?"
"Nothing, love. Stay put, unless you want me to put this tape back on." He said, calmly. It was even more annoying as he spoke to her like she was really a poor stupid deer.
"Wait!" She yelled out. Lucky for her, Diego stopped. When he turned, thick brows furrowed as he glanced at her. "I..." Rebecca swallowed. She knew she had to be smart now. "I'm ready to cooperate. I swear! I just...I don't want to die."
She hoped whatever expression on her face resembled fear, it should be enough to gain his pity. Diego Gonzalez showing pity? She smiled bitterly and shook her head. "You know what? Just leave me alone."
When her eyes met with his again, for a split second, it seemed like her plan had work after all. Diego winced, almost like he didn't want her to die. "All you have to do is stay put, love, and you might just be fine." He turned and left.
Rebecca could not just sit and wait till...till she was killed? He called her "love" but it was probably because he would enjoy punishing her for whatever crimes her father had done.
No, he was lying. Her father would never...! What would he be doing with a Gonzalez!
Muffled conversations was heard from outside. She realized the door hadn't been shut tight. Rebecca jumped to her feet, limping towards the door. It opened with a slight push. The passage way was clear. Before she left, there was an umbrella with a pointy handle Rebecca had taken. Pointy enough to jab at someone's throat.
With one careful step after the other, she was down in the wide living room, this time with no one around. The Gonzalez man was probably dealing with a crises which gives her perfect time to bolt. She managed to dodge two guards until she arrived at the entrance, then ran with all of her strength.
Suddenly, a voice roared. "Hey, stop right there!" The cocking of a gun was what made her nearly jump out of her skin, but Rebecca was not going to stop now.
Her breath quickened as she continued to run. Heavy footsteps followed from behind. Outside, she located two entrances but lit up with an exhilarating excitement when she found an elevator. That would just lead her...outside! Then she could run to the police, run anywhere.
Something jabbed at her barefeet, maybe stone? It didn't stop her though.
"Stop right there!"
She did not listen. Her thumb stabbed the elevator button until it dinged, and then...it opened. When it shut back, Rebecca crashed to the ground, thanking her star. All the pain came rushing back, from her stomach to her feet. She made sure it was the last floor she was heading to.
It finally opened and it was a nice wide building she found herself in. It was like a company with people moving around. Eyes paused to stare at her. She was barefooted, dressed in a plain gown and maybe still bleeding. Tears welled her eyes as she tried to locate the way out.
"Miss...are you okay?" A lady stopped by her side to ask. Her eyes held concerns that made Rebecca's eyes teary again.
Before she opened her mouth to speak, a voice said from behind. "Oh she's fine, she's one of my maids. New one. She must have been startled, that's all."
Diego was right behind her. She could never miss that voice. He appeared right beside her. Rebecca's lips opened to speak but a poke at her side stopped her. Diego had pointed a gun to her stomach. He turned to smile at her. "Isn't that right, maid?"
More tears streamed down her eyes. "Please, I just--"
Diego pulled her closer, reminding her he still had the gun close to her. The lady gave an awkward stare and left. Rebecca felt a stabbing pain in her chest. What could she do now? She'd never heard any Gonzalez arrested before. The whole city worships the mafia clans and even fears them.
A short man came alone with two heft men behind. He observed, watching carefully. He didn't say anything but made it obvious he was looking.
Diego had this worried look in his eyes. "See what you've caused? You've exposed us. Just get back up before you get us both killed!"
Rebecca was still muttering curses inside. How could he have found her! "If you had just let me leave in the first place--"
"Let you leave? When will it dawn on you that you're one of my maids now, nothing but a prisoner. And if you don't cooperate..." He shook his head, "tsk tsk tsk. Your father is dead, but at least won't you want to ever find your mother again?" His voice was in that chilly low tone again.
Rebecca's heart skipped at bit at the mention of her mother. "No, she died when she had me."
Diego smiled, his mouth opened to speak but he suddenly made an attempt like he wanted to hug her, before Rebecca could dare to struggle free from his embrace, a painful groan escaped from him.
He tapped his ear, "I've been shot. Cover us, get her up safely!"
Some men were running towards them now. It slowly began to make sense to Rebecca now.
This mad lunatic kidnapper had just taken a bullet for her??
“I'm ready to walk down the darkest path of this earth as long as it's with you.”–Rebecca stared at the man that stood not too far away from them. She didn't know how to feel. At first, she felt it was her salvation, but from the look of things, it looked like Leon's death. And as much as she despised Leon, she would never have wished him death. Blood decorated the half of Diego's face, yet that wasn't the scariest part of his face. He didn't look like a man that was going to kill someone but death itself. "Diego...!" She breathed sharply. If she asked him not to do anything, she would either have to sign the marriage certificate or lose her son and she wasn't ready for either of them. Leon's eyes widened more than Rebecca thought they could get, she watched the look of surprise spread all over his face like a deadly disease spreading fast and wide. "D-- D-- Diego Gonzalez!" Leon stuttered. "What are you... What brings you here?" If he wanted to act calm, he was failing terri
“How am I any different?”–A few minutes earlier...Diego picked up Peterson by the collar of his shirt and brought his gaze to meet his. "Tell me what I want to hear..." He growled softly. The man was already weak and blood poured down from his nostrils. His eyes could barely open and his body was bruised and aching. "Mr Gonzalez..." He muttered weakly. "If you don't tell me what I want to hear, I swear I will kill you and your entire family. I will make you watch as I slaughter each and every one of your kids and then your wife before killing you." Diego's voice was low like the rumbling of the clouds. "I'll talk. Please... Please don't hurt my family... I'll talk." Mr Peterson finally agreed. "I'm listening.""Your brother is the one who asked me to do it, I swear, I didn't mean to hurt your father. He made me do it. He gave me this house as a gift and a hundred million dollars to take care of my family. "He asked me to shut down my hospital and live a quiet life. I've been
“What will I ever do without him in my life?”–Rebecca had never been any more confused and angry in her entire life. Just standing there with that monster holding her hand so tightly made her wish she had some sort of weapon to carve off his eerie smile. But in the end, she had nothing. She was powerless against a man like him in this situation. She couldn't do anything but to succumb to his wishes to save the one thing she owned and loved more than her life. “Why are you doing this, Leon? Why do you have to take things so far?” Hot tears welled up in her eyes as she stared at him. She kept trying to wriggle her arm free but his grip was tight. “Because you pushed me, Rebecca. You made me do this.” He growled in a deep tone. “All you had to do was stick with me and none of this would have happened.” She couldn't control the tears that poured down her face. “Is this what you wanted from the start? To see me hurting so much?” Leon stared into her eyes and found himself not being
“I'd never marry him, over my dead body. But my son's…?”–Rebecca put the bag of groceries into the back of her car. She loved going grocery shopping every Saturday and she always went with Timothee and Beatrice. It was always so lovely having them around. Another reason she loved Saturdays was because after grocery shopping, they'd spend the day at Beatrice's place, playing with her children and living like a calm and happy family without Helen to be the storm to their calm. "Help your mother put this at the back too." Beatrice told Timothee as she handed him a very small plastic bag with some fresh onions inside. Timothee, always wanting to do something, happily received the plastic bag and rushed towards his mother as fast as his little legs could carry him. Rebecca's face was split by a smile as she received the plastic bag from her little helper. "Thank you darling." After packing up all the groceries, they got into the car and drove out of the grocery store. Rebecca was
“I'm not going to let this slide, no, never!”–Diego had hoped to receive a call or at least a text from Rebecca but nothing came through for the next few days. Perhaps, she had believed the lies his brother told her and accepted it as her truth. Perhaps... That was for the best. "At least now, I won't put her in danger anymore." He told himself even though each word felt like a venomous poison burning his tongue. He sighed. "I need to focus. Chase had refused my warning and still wants me dead, I have to catch him and make him pay for everything he has done to me."Chase no longer behaved humanly, remorse was something he refused to feel. "He's dangerous, Rebecca did the right thing by staying away from me. At least now she won't be killed or hurt and neither will her child."Vincenzo had to bite down on his tongue to keep himself from spilling a secret he had promised to keep. Instead, he steered clear of the topic. "What are you planning to do now that we know the truth?" Di
“Will he really stop?”–Rebecca's entire body was trembling beside herself, she didn't know what to say or how to deny such a claim. Even though he was wrong, he was dangerously close to the truth which was very unsettling. She had to force herself to take a few deep breaths before her voice came alive. "You're stalking me now?" "Rebecca, don't." He said firmly. "Don't even try to cover up this issue. It's very bad and I know you know it, that's why you're ashamed to say it to anyone." "You're wrong, Leon. Way off. The consigliere of the Gonzalez family?" She scoffed a laugh. "How would I ever get the chance to marry a man like him?"I really don't remember what happened three years ago and whether I saw you at an airport or not, but one thing I remember very clearly is that I was never married. I'm sure you've checked with the court, as you must have found out, I was never registered into any marriage with any man. "Leon, stop trying to believe you know everything when you don'
