LOGINRage bubbled within me, uncontained.
The thought of him giving her the same necklace hours before he came here to meet me. While I was all alone spiralling in my thoughts, he was there with her.
A hickey on her neck. The exact diamond necklace. The reused words.
Why?
In an instant, my hands found their way to the necklace on my neck, ripping it off and tossing it as far as I could. Where it landed? I couldn't care less.
All I wanted was to wash it all off. The residue of her scent on me, the feel of his hands against my skin.
I stormed into the shower. The warm water hit my skin as I scrubbed every part of my body. Every bit of his touch and her smell.
I wanted it all gone.
"Aurelia, are you in there?"
Axel knocked on my bathroom door, once then twice.
"You've been in the shower for over thirty minutes now."
I hadn't even realised. I looked down to see my fingers shriveled from being underwater for too long.
With a sigh, I dried off and wore my robe before walking back into my room. Axel was standing right outside the door.
A huge grin spread across his face as his gaze hungrily lingered across my body.
Just as I walked towards my bed, his hands snaked across my waist, pulling me flush against him.
He leaned, whispering. "You smell so fucking good, I can’t wait to fuck you right here. "
A wave of unease rushed down my spine. Something worse than disgust.
I jerked, pushing myself away but his grip only grew tighter. He buried his head in my neck. Tongue trailing, lips sucking, teeth biting.
"Axel, stop!"
"I know you love this, baby."
His hand slipped into my robe, grabbing a fistful of my butt. Squeezing till it hurt.
"Fucking let go of me!"
I pushed with everything I had. Axel stumbled back. Eyes widened, confused.
"I'm exhausted." I spoke.
"Yeah." His breath steadied. "You've had a long day. I'm sorry baby."
He caressed my cheeks. "You've been gone for a while and I guess I missed you badly."
Missed me? While fucking his sister?
How could he say those words with the most genuine eyes yet do something completely opposite behind my back?
"Get some rest. We'll go to the banquet together tomorrow." He placed a soft kiss on my head before walking out.
****
Sleep never came. I lay awake all night, staring. My thumb scrolling through her page over and over until dawn came.
I had to prepare for his grandfather's banquet… Eric Davenport. Not just because of Axel but because Eric had always been the one who supported our union the most and had always thought of me as family.
Hours later, a knock landed on my door. "Are you ready?"
He walked into my room, eyes bright, lip between teeth as his gaze devoured my entire frame but just then… a wrinkle formed on his brow.
"You're not wearing the necklace?"
Over my dead body would I humiliate myself in such a way.
"We'll be late, let's go." I replied, avoiding the question as I walked out of the room with his footsteps following behind.
Axel rambled about business, pack duties and things I couldn't care less about. Eventually, silence engulfed us until we arrived at Eric's grand estate.
But just then, his hands tightened on the wheel. Jaw clenching.
"What the hell is he doing here?" He spat.
I followed his gaze. A sleek black car parked ahead of us, in the spot designated for Axel.
"That fuck of an Uncle."
Uncle?
My gaze shot up.
Embarrassment clawed at my insides as memories of our last encounter rushed through my head. Images that I had struggled to bury all this while.
He'd been gone for over five years. Expected to never return to the pack, why the hell was he here now?
I'd been head over heels for Axel back then. I visited their mansion, hoping to catch him by surprise, but accidentally barged into Dane's room instead.
He wore nothing but a black towel slung low around his waist, water dripping down his chest as he brushed his wet hair back, a smirk tugging at his lips when he caught the horror on my face.
Rather than apologizing, I'd done the only thing my mortified brain could think of. I sprinted off.
I'm all grown now, but that's still the most embarrassing thing I've ever done. How do I even face him today?
"He should've just stayed in California!" Axel fumed as he stepped out. Too consumed by rage to notice that I needed help getting out of the car.
Oh yes—Uncle Dane was supposed to be in California, where he’d effortlessly expanded the pack’s business empire through a series of mergers and acquisitions. Just last month, he became the new Alpha King.
That alone was enough to make him a near-legend within the whole werewolf empire—and the man Axel cursed most under his breath.
I rolled my eyes internally but said nothing.
As I stepped onto the gravel, my heel caught on a stone. I stumbled forward, bracing for impact—
But it never came.
Strong hands caught my waist. Steadying me.
I looked up.
Grey eyes. Sharp. Piercing. Like they could see straight through me.
Dane Davenport stood tall before me, his hands still on my waist. Broad shoulders that swallowed my entire frame. A face carved from stone, all sharp angles and quiet authority.
Then his scent hit me. Rich. Woodsy. Intoxicating.
My breath caught.
For a moment, neither of us moved.
Then Axel's hand clamped down on my arm, yanking me away.
"Uncle." His voice was ice. "Didn't expect to see you here."
Alpha King Dane's gaze lingered on me for a second longer before shifting to Axel. His expression remained unreadable.
"It's my father's banquet, isn't it?" He spoke, unbothered.
Axel's grip on my arm tightened as he pulled me toward the entrance, leaning close. "I don't like you getting too close to other men."
Other men?
I scoffed internally.
He'd been the one having a forbidden rendezvous with his foster sister, yet he says that?
My fists balled by my sides but I said nothing as we both walked in.
The banquet hall was filled with people of wealth and status from all over the country.
Eric stood surrounded by admirers. The moment he spotted us, he walked past Axel and pulled me into a hug.
"He doesn't even care about his grandson." Flora, Axel's mother, laughed as the rest of the family joined in.
Just then, Dane walked up to the gathering and Eric greeted him in the same way. His eyes fell on mine but I lowered my gaze. Trying all I could not to look at him.
"When are you going to find yourself a mate as well?" Eric spoke, his focus on Dane. "You're not getting any younger."
I lifted my gaze. His grey eyes found mine. I looked away.
But I could still feel him watching.
Why was he staring at me?
"Soon."
"Soon?" Eric scoffed. "Look at Axel! He's already with a beautiful partner…" He gestured toward me. "You should follow his example."
Axel puffed up beside me. Proud.
I wanted to vomit. But Dane's grey eyes never left me.
"Indeed." Dane’s voice was quiet. "She is beautiful."
I stormed into the Davenport estate, eyes reddened from unshed tears with hands balled into fists at my sides.I had walked in with just one reason. To bring Charlotte to justice. And I wasn't leaving until I did exactly that."What's going on?" Fiona rushed down to the main room, brows furrowed as she scanned her surroundings, mentally counting the number of police officers gathered around me. Her eyes widened with shock.Bringing the police into the Alpha King's residence wasn't just a bold move. It could be considered a death sentence. The Alpha King's family had always been above the law. They were the rulers of the land, revered by every community and authority.Walking into the police station and requesting the arrest of a Davenport was no easy thing. It was seen as foolishness. A death sentence.Initially, the head officer had refused my request until I cited the written law to him and threatened to sue the station.
"You're back!" Zoey mumbled from beneath the heavy weight of files stacked in front of her face as she walked into my office with Vivienne following behind, carrying nothing."I wonder why you get to take days off whenever you please." Vivienne rolled her eyes, picking a single file from the pile Zoey struggled to carry.I watched her flick through it, roll her eyes and place it back on Zoey's pile."You know you could've just helped with these, right?" Grunting, Zoey rolled her eyes before dropping them on the table with a loud thud.I exhaled. So much work to do."Well, that's your job, not mine." Vivienne sneered. She might have become a better person and taken accountability for her previous actions, but it hadn't changed her character in any meaningful way.Only that she was now a little more tolerable, having stopped being an outright bitch."Where were you off to this time?""Somewhere." I answered.
Aurelia’S POV"Please don't bother about it." Dane immediately added, taking my hands into his. "This shouldn't place any pressure on you whatsoever."Pressure.The idea of marking Dane and making our union official wasn't a pressure. It was bound to happen either way.It was something we'd gone back and forth on over and over again. There was no need to be scared. It was bound to happen.Right.Hopefully before the next crimson moon. After the incident with Amelia, I knew I was in safe hands with Dane. Our wedding shouldn't be difficult and besides, quite a number of people already knew we were together. Yet there was still a part of my heart that dropped whenever the thought crossed my mind.Making things official with Dane was the sweetest thing that could ever happen, but the thought of the huge responsibilities that came with it?I shook the thought from my head and forced a smile. "Will you call one of your doctors to take me off the drip?"I had to leave. To rest and to process
Dane’S POVGoddess, no!I ran my hands through my hair, head spiralling, gaze fixed on her on the bed. Naked, weakened and scarred. All because of me.For three days, I had lost my sanity. Done terrible things to her. Things I'd have never imagined doing."Fuck!"I buried my head between my palms, guilt washing over me like a constant shower. The one person I had sworn to protect with my life was lying on the bed, weak from having endured everything I'd done to her in my state of insanity."Hmm…" A silent whimper left her lips. Her eyes twitched.I stood still, rigid. My mind wandered. Whether to run out of the room or to stay and face her. But how would I live with myself when she opened her eyes and saw the monster who had inflicted all those wounds on her?If so much as a flicker of fear crossed her face, I knew I wouldn't be able to live with myself.I'd be miserable."Dane?" Her soft voice called, weak but clear enough. My heart dropped to the bottom of my chest, pounding hard ag
The minute I stepped out of the car, I rushed as fast as I could into the house—even though my fastest was me limping against the wall. And just as I’d thought, the moment the doors opened, a brutal wave of cold crashed through me. Icy.I pushed through, shivering through the walls until my eyes fell on a huge figure, balled on the ground, groaning in pain.“Dane…” I called, shivering.I crouched on the floor next to him, his body as icy as the Artic. His fever had gotten worse. Even more intense than whatever happened in his office. Yet he told me he was better.Lied to me that all he needed was rest and even when I insisted on staying by his side all night, he refused.Lied that what I saw was the entirety of it.“Why?” I cried, immediately wrapping as much as I could find all over him but nothing calmed his icy skin.I knew what must be done.“No…” His teeth clattered violently. “I’ve put you through a lot, not anymore.”“You lied to me, Dane!” I yelled, lifting my shirt off as col
"Did a truck run you over?""Ah!" I screamed, hands clenched against my chest as I struggled to catch my breath. "You fucking scared me, Koralie." I spoke, voice weak."What's up with you?""I really need to change my password." I ignored her, slumping slowly onto the couch as I winced in pain.Every part of me ached. Every inch of my skin.I'd dropped Dane off at his house, hoping he'd get enough rest from all he had been through, then come home to an empty house, rest enough and possibly recover before heading to work… even though I knew deep down that it would be impossible. He had warned me about his primal fever, but if I were to do it all over again, I would willingly give myself to his beast. As long as it made him feel better."What the hell happened to you?" Koralie yelled, brows furrowed as she sat next to me on the couch, her gaze trailing across the wounds on my arms and legs.I shifted uncomfortably, adjusting my clothes, but Koralie slapped my hands off."Fuck, ouch!" I
I paused. My pulse pounding against my chest. Louder and louder as the seconds passed.I held my breath. Unsure of what to do… but one thing was certain. I didn't want to be next to her.Didn't want to face her.And neither did my wolf.I'd never been the type to be intimidated by a woman, but Amel
Aurelia'S POV"You can't just barge in here…""Bring her out!"Axel. His voice roared from outside my office. Tense."This is a corporate environment, please behave sir…"Insanity. How could he barge into my office? Like a madman who escaped from rehab?I groaned. Seething as I rubbed my temples. F
Dane'S POVTwo days had passed, yet I couldn't get over it… over her.Her body, the way she moved seamlessly against me. Like we were one.Her warm soft skin against mine. The constant pulling between us while her claws dug through my skin, piercing. Hot.The way her slick folds welcomed my entire
Koralie was back in town. And with that excuse, I was able to avoid giving in to Dane… myself.I drove as fast as I could to her apartment. My AC on full blast to soothe my burning soul.I opened the door."Aurelia!" She screamed, jumping into my arms like she hadn't seen me in years. But something
