LOGINI stirred from my sleep, my body feeling more relaxed than it had in weeks. Feeding from a werewolf, especially an Alpha, had that effect. I felt powerful, satiated, and utterly smug.
I reached out a manicured hand to the other side of the bed, expecting to find his warm body and perhaps have another taste of him.
Instead, my hands met the cold sheets.
I sat upright, my fangs pricking my lower lip instinctively. William was sitting in the armchair across the room, fully dressed in the same black shirt from the night before, looking as if he hadn't slept a wink.
He was calmly sipping a cup of espresso while staring at a tablet in his lap. "You’re awake," William said. His voice was smooth, devoid of the soft touch they had hours ago. "I’ve already had your assistant, Sarah, cancel your morning meetings. You’re going to need the time."
I scoffed, tossing my hair back with a soft, dismissive laugh. "Canceled my meetings? Darling, I appreciate the enthusiasm, but one night wouldn't leave me unable to handle business. You were a delicious snack, but I think it's time you leave."
William simply nodded then turned the tablet screen toward me.
And I felt my stomach drop from under me. On the screen was a crystal-clear, high-definition recording of last night.
And it wasn't the intimacy that had me frozen in place; It was the moment my eyes had turned a glowing, demonic red. It was the shot of my fangs sinking into his throat, and my face contorted in an expression of pure, supernatural hunger.
"The A.S.A. would find this fascinating," William said calmly. "The Ice Queen of London, a parasite feeding off the citizens she claims to serve. I wonder how fast your stock would plummet before they hauled you off to a laboratory for dissection."
"You... you recorded me?” I asked stupidly, still trying to process just how fast things would go wrong for me, if that video got into the wrong hands. “Do you have any idea who I am? I could have your head on a platter before the sun sets."
"You could try." William stood up, walking toward the bed with that predatory grace of a wolf. He tossed a thick legal folder onto my lap. "But while you’re planning my murder, your legal team should look at this. It’s a marriage contract, Astrid. And a merger agreement between Winchester Holdings and Lancetii Enterprises."
“You have gone insane.” I laughed, staring into his eyes that held no emotions.
“Have I?” William asked. He leaned down, his face inches from mine. The scent of him made my blood sing, which made me hate him even more.
"You're going to marry me, Astrid. You’re going to use your influence to clear my pack’s name and fund our reclamation. And in return, I don't send this video to the Director of the A.S.A."
The moment the last words left his mouth, I was off the bed. To a human, I would have been a blur; My fingers curled into claws, aiming straight for his throat I’d been worshiping just hours ago.
I slammed into him, my weight carrying us both backward. The armchair toppled over and I pinned him against the cold mahogany wardrobe. My fangs were fully extended, aching to shred the smugness right off his face.
"How dare you?" I spat, my voice vibrating with a low hiss. I pressed my forearm against his windpipe, putting every ounce of my immortal strength into it.
"I have buried men for looking at me the wrong way. I will erase you, your pack, and every digital footprint you have."
William remained calm, despite me partially crushing his windpipe.
Then a sickening crack filled the room as his bone broke, his partially shifted hands grabbed my wrists, and for the first time in a century, I felt my bone begin to creak under a strength that surpassed mine. He twisted my hands, using my own momentum to flip our positions.
In a heartbeat, I was the one slammed against the wood. His hands were like iron manacles around my arms, pinning them above my head. His eyes now glowing a bright gold.
"Don't mistake my manners for weakness, Astrid," he growled, his breath hot against my ear. "You’re fast, but I’m a Winchester Alpha. I was bred to hunt creatures far more dangerous than vampires. You will submit." He stated.
And leaned in closer, his scent filling my senses even as my heart hammered in my chest with fear? No. Never. This was rage. Pure, unadulterated loathing.
"You have twenty-four hours," he whispered, his voice dropping back into that terrifyingly calm. "Sign the contract, set the merger in motion, or prepare for a very public execution."
He released me so abruptly I nearly stumbled. William didn't look back as he smoothed his shirt as if we hadn't just tried to murder each other. He picked up his espresso, took a final sip, and set the empty cup on my designer nightstand.
"I'll have my Beta, Kaelen, drop by your office to finalize the engagement announcement," he said, walking toward the door. "Wear something red for the press, darling. It suits your temperament."
And with that he was gone the heavy door clicked shut behind him.
I stood there, for minutes on end my chest heaving, the marks of his fingers already bruising purple against my pale skin.
My gaze drifted to the folder on the bed.
Twenty four hours. I had twenty four hours to have him assassinated.
After what felt like forever, I was finally back in the office. Refusing to think of what happened between William and I.I was horny, I thought to myself. It was the only reasonable explanation to why I did that and besides It had been a while, but now with my head clear, it wasn't going to happen again.I was just about to focus on work when my office door slammed against the wall, jarring the frames on the partition. And Julien walked into my office like he owned the place, he adjusted his cuffs, smirking down at me before sliding into the leather chair opposite me without an invitation, leaving me wondering what I even paid Sarah for.If she was going to allow just anyone to walk in here, she might as well not be there. The wide smile on his face told me something was terribly wrong. “What are you doing here?”“It's been a lo
The afternoon sun beat down on the gravel driveway, the heat baking against my cold skin. I walked out the front entrance of the main pack house, the doors closing behind me.Unlike last night, the entire grounds were filled with activity and it looked like they were making preparations for an event.I walked down the stone steps, my boots crunching on the gravel as I passed various shirtless men. As I neared them, a few stopped what they were doing and bowed their heads toward me. A few others simply stared with hard, tight expressions, refusing to acknowledge my presence entirely.I ignored all of them, kept my eyes fixed ahead, my face a mask of complete indifference. None was worth a second of my time. I didn't care about their submission, and I cared even less about their hostility.I needed to get away from William and his sudden attentiveness towards me. I veered off the ma
The next time my eyelids forced themselves open, the heavy thumping of a heartbeat vibrated against my cheek. I blinked several times, clearing the thick blur from my vision until it came into focus.I was in William’s arms.My body rested on his broad chest, my face pressed into the crook of his neck. The last memory buried in my brain was that of Allaston. I think I passed out long before William even got to me. I tried to twist my neck to look around, when suddenly, the ground vanished beneath us. William launched off the dirt, his powerful legs propelling us straight into the air. He hit the branch of a massive tree, stabilized his weight for a second, and leaped again. He began to hop from tree to tree, clearing the distances with every bound while holding me so tightly against his chest. My throat felt dry, but I forced my mouth open, drawing in a deep breath of cold air. After a few failed, silent attempts, I finally managed to whisper his name. "William."He stopped abruptly
I woke up with a heavy, dragging sensation throughout my limbs, realizing immediately that my wrists and ankles had been chained to the floor.A dull ache throbbed behind my eyes, and when I tried to push my senses outward, I hit a wall; the room was specifically equipped with technology designed to completely dampen my abilities. My eyes locked onto Allaston, who was standing directly on the opposite side of a thick glass wall that separated my cell from the rest of the room. A wide, permanent smile was plastered across his face. His unmoving expression thoroughly unsettled me. Does he ever stop smiling? I thought to myself, keeping my face blank to hide my growing unease.Allaston stepped closer to the transparent barrier, and spoke through an intercom system, his voice clear and smug. "My noble prize," he also purred."The perfect weapon for me to use against William."I frowned deeply at him, did he really think William would give up his position for me? Thqis man couldn't be as d
I forced myself to hold William's stare. Tilting my chin upward, and directing my full focus into our shared link. I thought of all the ways I could have killed him. I visualized every single detailed step, running through the thought of tearing through his arteries and draining him.William’s small smile vanished instantly. His fingers shot out, wrapping tightly around my neck as he yanked my body upward until my toes barely brushed the floor, pulling my face inches from his.His dark green irises flared into a bright gold, still I held my ground, keeping my eyes locked on him as I replayed one particular scene over and over in my mind: a clear, vivid fantasy of decapitating him in the most shameful, public manner possible. The grip around my throat grew tighter, threatening to cut off my breathing entirely. But just before either of us could say a word or push each other further, a loud, piercing alarm shattered the quiet night air. Both our heads snapped in the direction of the s
I woke with a gasp, my chest heaving and cold sweat running down my back. I blinked a few times as my vision slowly came into focus, revealing the high ceilings and familiar layout of William’s master bedroom at his pack house. I was back in his bed.Instinctively, I lifted my right hand to my mouth, running the pads of my fingers over the sharp points of my fangs. A long, shaky breath escaped my lips when I found them still fully intact.Unlike the final moments I remembered of Rowena’s cabin, the agonizing, starvation pain no longer consumed my body. I was still hungry, but the intense burning in my stomach had diminished into a dull, manageable ache deep within my bones. The alarm clock on the nightstand read 3:40 AM, and William was sleeping shirtless beside me.My eyebrows drew together in a frown as I stared at his relaxed features. "What the fuck did you do?" I whispered to m
I continue to swallow large gulps, filling my mouth with his blood. The blinding headache behind my temples vanished instantly, and a sudden wave of strength rushed through my limbs. The starvation that had paralyzed my thoughts for the past twenty-four hours receded. My fingers automatically leng
My eyes ran down the hard lines of William's body, watching the steady rising and falling of his bare chest. The thought of how hard and warm his skin would feel against my hands, crossed my mind and my fingers twitched at my sides with the urge to reach out. Then my gaze settled on his neck, at t
"What was that about?" Yui asked, her eyes moving from the closed door back to me.I shook my head, my gaze remaining fixed on the exact spot where Dario had just walked out. I let out a heavy sigh and rubbed my hand over my face. "It's nothing important," I said, my voice sounding flat even to my
"I didn't know you knew my son," Dario said, breaking the silence as his eyes shifted from Julian back to me."I don't," I replied, keeping my voice even despite the pounding in my head. "We just got acquainted."He didn't believe it, I could tell by the look in his eyes. But before Dario could say
