WHAT IS THIS?

ANIKA’S POV

I hid the divorce papers in the middle of a thick stack of other documents.

My fingers trembled slightly as I aligned the edges, making sure the pages looked perfectly normal. Contracts. Approval forms. Internal reports. The usual boring paperwork that Simon signed every single day without thinking twice.

Funny he was the CEO of such a hug company and never for once had he thought to actually look through whatever he was signing… probably because he always had me to do it for him. But today I was grateful that he did that because, Right in the middle of it all… the papers that would end our marriage.

Forever.

My heart thumped painfully in my chest as I stared at them.

Four years.

Four years of my life tied to Simon Smith.

Four years of loving a man who never loved me back.

Four years of humiliating myself over and over again, hoping that one day he would finally see me… really see me, and not just some baggage that made him to marry her.

I leaned back in my chair slowly, pressing my fingers against my temple.

If he even so much as found out about this, then all my plans would be over… I couldn’t let that happen.

These seven days were all I had to get things done quickly and then disappear.

Simon might be cold, arrogant and sometimes even a little dense, but he was also hot tempered and irrational, he would never allow me to divorce him. Not because he gave a shit about me, but because it would bruise his ego.

My fingers began tapping nervously on the table.

God… why was this so difficult?

Years ago, if someone told me that I would one day be trying to secretly divorce the man I once begged to love me, I would have laughed.

But life had a cruel sense of humor.

I let out a slow breath and glanced around the office.

Four years ago I had dreams.

Big dreams.

I wanted to become a renowned fashion designer. I had entire sketchbooks filled with designs. I imagined runways, fabrics, lights, and my name on magazine covers.

I wanted a life that was mine.

But when Simon asked if I would come work for him, I didn’t hesitate.

Of course I said yes.

I told myself it was temporary.

At first it was supposed to be Just until the company stabilized.

Just until he needed me less.

But days turned into months.

Months turned into years.

And before I even realized it… my dreams quietly disappeared.

Now I was just Simon Smith’s secretary.

My gaze shifted toward the hallway.

Right then, the security guard walked past carrying a silver food flask.

My stomach twisted immediately.

I knew that flask.

Everyone in the company did.

He knocked politely on Simon’s office door before entering.

I didn’t need to ask who sent the food.

Bree.

Of course it was Bree.

She had been sending meals to Simon every day for months now.

Lunch.

Dinner.

Snacks sometimes.

Like a loving wife taking care of her husband.

Things that he always used to find irritating whenever I did it, now it was the norms for the both of them.

The thought made something sharp twist painfully in my chest.

Two of the girls working a few desks away started whispering.

Actually… whispering wasn’t even the right word.

One of them practically squealed.

“OMG, Miss Bree is so lucky to have such a handsome man like Mr. Smith.”

The other one giggled.

“I know right? They look so perfect together. And they take care of each other so well.”

My eyes burned instantly.

I forced myself to keep staring at my computer screen.

Four years.

Four years of marriage.

And Simon had never told a single person that I was his wife.

Not his staff.

Not his partners.

No one.

I was just the secretary.

A delusional one at that now that I really think about it.

People whispered about me all the time.

The girl who thought she had a chance with Simon Smith.

The girl who didn’t know her place.

For years I tried to defend him in my head.

He was just being professional.

He didn’t want gossip.

He valued privacy.

God… I really was pathetic.

The truth was painfully obvious now.

He was ashamed of me.

Ashamed to admit that I was his wife.

Meanwhile Bree walked freely through his life like she already owned everything.

I closed my eyes briefly.

Enough.

I had cried enough.

Begged enough.

Loved enough.

Slowly, I stood up from my chair.

The stack of documents felt heavy in my hands.

As I walked across the office floor, I could feel the familiar stares following me.

Judging.

Pitying.

Mocking.

Someone whispered behind me.

“Look, it’s her again…”

“She probably thinks Mr. Smith will fall for her someday.”

A quiet laugh followed.

My grip tightened around the papers.

For years I tried so hard.

I did everything that I was supposed to do, I was the perfect wife the one who always tried to understand everyone around her but never gave even an iota of grace to herself. I tried to hold on, tried to love Simon enough for the both of us.

And what did I get in return?

Pain.

Humiliation.

Time and time again I tried to get trout to him but all I got was the cruel, cold silence.

I reached Simon’s office door and pushed it open without knocking.

The door swung inward.

Simon sat behind his large desk.

He had just opened the food flask.

For a brief moment, I caught a glimpse of something rare on his face.

A smile.

It was small, but it lingered. That sparkle in his eyes could not be forged.

It was the kind of smile he never gave me.

The moment he noticed me standing there, the smile vanished.

His brows immediately furrowed.

“You should knock before entering.”

His voice was sharp.

Like I had just interrupted something important.

I ignored the comment completely.

Instead, I walked toward the desk and placed the documents in front of him.

“I need you to sign this so I can return it to HR,” I said trying my hardest to keep my voice steady.

Even though my heart was beating so fast I thought it might burst out of my chest.

Simon glanced lazily at the stack before picking it up.

He began flipping through the pages slowly.

Each rustle of paper made my stomach twist tighter.

Just sign it.

Please… just sign it.

His pen tapped lightly against the desk as he scanned the first few pages.

My palms were starting to sweat.

Almost there.

Just a few more pages.

Then suddenly he stopped.

Simon slowly lifted his head and looked directly at me.

His gaze was pointed at me

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE   WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?

LIAM’S POV“I don’t know what to do mum” I said. And yes, I know that I was at work and supposed to be dealing with all the work that was held up in my absence, but here I was complaining to my mother.Shoot me.“What are you talking about son?” my mother asked and I ran a hand though my hair.“I don’t know mum it’s just Anika…”“Trouble in paradise?”“Not exactly, it’s just that it has been a week now since the incident that happened, and Anika is not acting the same anymore. She is so skittish and walks around with this permanent look of guilt on her face. Whenever I try to ask her about what the matter is, it is like she completely avoids me” I ran my hand through my hair.“I know that she is sad mum, I just wish she would tell me why.”What I did not add, even though it was pretty obvious was that the fact of not knowing was eating me alive from the inside out, because if I did not know, then I would not be able to fix it.My mum chuckled a bit “you really love this woman don’t yo

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE   IF I DID SOMETHING UNFORGIVABLE… WOULD YOU STILL FORGIVE ME?

ANIKA’S POVThere was tension. And it made me feel uncomfortable because before all of this, Felicia was the closest person in the world to me, the one person on this planet earth that I could come to with anything. And I am sure it was the same for Liam.Jonathan was the closest person to Liam as well, and one person just managed to knock down the trust we had amongst ourselves with the snap of a finger. It hurt so much to think about it, and I just hoped that things would get better between us.I could not leave knowing things would be on sour terms. And now, the thought of what I was going to do was already breaking me into shreds. The silence in the room felt heavier than it should have. It settled over us like a thick blanket, making every breath feel difficult. I hated it. These were my people. The people who had become my family in every way that mattered. Yet somehow, we all looked like strangers who did not know how to find our way back to each other. We were sitting in the l

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE   THIS IS NOT ABOUT ME

ANIKA’S POV“Please Simon, I know the deal that I made… I just need seven days with Liam, and once I am sure that he is alright, I will leave,” I said.My throat was burning as I spoke, every word scraping against it painfully. I caught the tears that threatened to leave my eyes with my fingers before they could fall.If Liam was to see me like this, then I could not explain why I was crying to him, and I could not handle lying to him any longer. Every lie felt heavier than the last, pressing against my chest until I could barely breathe. With every lie that came out of my mouth felt like another knife twisting deeper into my own heart.Simon burst out laughing like this was the funniest thing he had heard in a long time.“Doesn’t this give you déjà vu, Anika?” he asked, amusement dancing in his voice.“...”“I also asked you for seven days to win your heart. Now what are the odds?” He laughed even harder, clapping his hands as if he had just told the greatest joke in the world. "How

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE   LET’S GO HOME

ANIKA’S POV“Simon they are hurting him!” I said again for the umpteenth time.I was way past hiding and keeping my voice low. None of that mattered anymore, not when there were literally five brute men on him, beating him like he was ordinary cattle. He glared at me. “Shut your mouth and stay put,” he said, still angling the camera in their direction.Simon had gotten a live confession from Bree when she was gloating, and that would be enough to prove Liam’s innocence, but other than that, it was like he actually derived some sort of sick pleasure from seeing Liam get hurt.It was the opposite for me.Every blow that landed on his body, it was like I was feeling it… twice as hard.“Simon…”“Anika, I know what you are thinking, wait,” he snapped, grabbing my wrists tightly with one of his hands.I was never going to wait that long anyway, but the second I saw Simon’s father pull out a gun and point it to Liam’s head, I lost all sense of common reasoning.I snatched my hand from Simon’

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE   PUT AN END TO THIS

LIAM’S POVI laughed.Because there was nothing else that I actually could do.I knew that someone had it out for me, that much was obvious, but what I did not expect was for it to be him that had it out for me.Out of all people in this world, it just had to be Mr. Smith, Simon’s fucking father. What are the odds?“I helped you!” I spat. “You came to me when you were no less than a rat begging for scraps and I helped you.”That smug look on his face finally vanished completely and was replaced with a blazing fury. The next thing I knew, he raised his hand and backhanded me hard across the face.My head snapped to the side. The tangy taste of blood exploded in my mouth. I spat the blood onto the floor and smiled at him. My teeth were probably stained red from all of the blood and I probably looked like a madman.“Does that make you angry?” I asked. His hand wrapped tightly around my neck.“And tell me, whose fault is it that I no longer had the company, huh, you bastard?!” he screame

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE    STAY PUT

ANIKA’S POV“Here it is.”Simon dropped the divorce papers on my lap like I was something worthless, and not my entire life crashing apart right in front of me.I did not say a word to him, I just stared down at the divorce papers. The black ink blurred in front of my eyes. It felt like a ticking time bomb that was about to implode in my face at any second. It was like all of the promises we had made to each other, was just crumbled and reduced to a stack of paper. My fingers trembled as I reached out to touch it, only to quickly pull my hand away like it had burned me.I felt sick.Simon looked at me through the rear view mirror.“What?”He smirked.“You should cheer up. It is a good riddance in my opinion.”I ignored him.“When are we going to get Liam?” I asked instead. The deal was simple. I divorce Liam and he got Liam out of prison pronto. I was not in the mood for any of this extra chitchat. Not right now, and definitely not with him.Simon laughed.“With you it's always straig

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE    WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?

ANIKA’S POV“Are you really sure about this?” Felicia asked and I nodded.“I am sure”“But-”I cut her off “please don’t. Hell I just finished having this exact conversation with Liam and it was not easy” I said voice pleading.Felicia just sucked in whatever she had to say “ok then”Sure, I was aw

LIAM’S POVI don’t know why, but from the second that Anika made that phone call, I could not help but worry. And so, it was no surprise that I could not even bear to wait for closing hours before I had clocked off work.“Let’s go Jonathan” I said.He arched a brow at me, with that annoying ass smi

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE   LET’S GET A DIVORCE
