LOGIN@lucian.banks_paragon followed you back.
My eyes widened and I covered my mouth to prevent myself from screaming out.
Another notification popped in and I almost passed out.
@lucian.banks_paragon sent you a message.
Lucian: Go to bed, kiddo. It's way past your bedtime.
I blinked repeatedly as I stared at the message. Lucian freaking Banks followed and messaged me on I*? The hell!
I flung my phone on the bed table and shut my eyes tight.
Gawd, my air bags are suddenly choked up.
….
I skipped breakfast again. Not because I wasn't hungry, but because I was avoiding you-know-who.
I sat with Erik in the cafeteria, fiddling with my lunch of bugger and ice cream.
“So tell me something, pretty boy, did you skip sweet breakfast to come eat school junk because of your stepbrother?”
“I….dunno, Erik.” I mumbled. “That jerk scares me and I hate him for that.”
Erik’s lips twitched into a lopsided smirk, “You hate him. Are you sure or are you not sure?”
I blinked slowly, cussing at him under my breath.
“I-I.. don't like Lucian. Definitely don't.”
My phone beeped in my hands and I read the message from mom.
Mom: Robert is hosting a high profile private gala of about a hundred or so guests. Endeavor to return early so you can try on the suit I got for you. Gala’s is 6pm sharp.
A frown settled on my face and I let out an exasperated scoff, turning off the phone.
“What is it this time around?” Erik questioned.
“A private gala is to be hosted at home and I have to be present to smile for the camera. I guess this is part of my life now.”
Erik grinned. “Can we exchange lives then?”
“Hell no!” I exclaimed, wide eyed. “I can't deal with your super religious mom.”
“Oh please!”
….
School was stressful but the thought of coming home was even more stressful.
I stared at the mansion immediately I stepped in, a sudden headache hitting me ferociously. The thought of leaving my shell and attending a party gave me real migraines.
The helps were moving about, probably putting things in order for the evening gala.
“Hi, Ezran!” Jeanne called out to me and I stopped walking, adjusting the straps of my backpack.
“You’re back from school?”
“Yeah. I had early morning classes, so I had to leave earlier.” My eyes roamed over her. “Didn't you go to school today?
“Nope. I was prepping for the gala. You know, trying on my dress, doing my hair, pedicure, manicure and all that stuff. It takes pretty much time.”
“Hmm. Girls stuff right?”
She nodded and I continued walking with her strolling beside me.
“What is this whole gala stuff about?”
“Dad hosts a monthly gala to relax with friends and associates while discussing deals and business. It's been a tradition since his grandfather’s days.”
“Oh.” I mumbled to myself.
Stepping into my room, I found mom sitting on my bed.
“You’re late, Ezran.”
“It’s 4pm, mom.”
She shrugged her shoulders, pointing towards four suits neatly arranged on mannequins.
A white two piece, an ox-red tuxedo, a black suit and a navy blue tuxedo.
“I’ll go for the black.”
“Try all of them, sweetie.” she cooed, tucking a strand of hair behind her ears.
“One is fine, mom. I’m exhausted.” I sighed, dragging my tired feet into the bathroom.
“I don't think that is a good choice, Ezran.”
Mom was still talking but I had already taken off my clothes and turned on the shower, drowning her voice in the water.
….
The night started unpredictably. Lucian’s eyes found me immediately. I walked into the ball and I froze, appalled.
“What the hell?” I exclaimed in whispers.
Lucian’s tuxedo was exactly the same as mine. How on Earth did Lucian and I end up wearing matching outfits?
Was this why mom said it wasn’t a good choice?
I almost felt like crying but I forced a smile for the blinding lights of the cameras. He looked shocked too but quickly masked it with a smirk.
The jerk.
A toast was made. I smiled politely and laughed when necessary. Lucian barely moved a muscle. I caught him watching me when he thought I wasn’t looking, and it drove me insane.
Later, when the crowd thinned, I found myself alone in the kitchen, sipping a glass of water. And there he was.
“Nice tuxedo.”
His voice came out calm and relaxed. I cast a brief look at him and rolled my eyes.
“You shouldn’t be here alone,” he said quietly, leaning against the doorway.
“I can take care of myself,” I shot back.
“I know you can,” he said, taking a step closer. “But that doesn’t mean I can ignore your reckless tendencies.”
His words were calm, almost mocking, but there was an undercurrent of danger I couldn’t ignore.
I bristled. “I’m not reckless. I just do what I want.”
He smiled, just slightly, enough to make my stomach flip. “That’s the problem.”
I laughed, nervously, but my chest tightened. “You think you can control me?”
“I don’t think. I know.”
That simple statement sent a shiver down my spine. His confidence, his calm, his presence—it was intoxicating and so infuriating.
And then, in a rare breach of the invisible barrier between us, he stepped even closer, close enough that I could feel the warmth of his body and the faint scent of his cologne. My heart raced, my thoughts scrambled.
“Why…did you follow me on I*******m?”
“You followed first, kid. So I should be the one asking that question.”
I raised my chin in pride, “I only followed because of Paragon. Don't think too highly of yourself, Mr Banks.”
A smirk curled up on his lips and he stepped even closer, creating no room for space between us. I quickly moved backwards, but my back hit the cabinet. A more sinister smirk curled even deeper on his lips.
He bent down to my level, his eyes locking on mine. Slowly, he brushed his lips on my ears, his voice coming out dark and primal.
“You can't escape now, stubborn.”
Hello, everyone.I'm sorry for not posting any chapters for some days, but I have a valid excuse. My account had a little bit of problem and I couldn't find my ID to rectify it. I didn't even expect this account to be up and running in a short time but thankfully, I have the best Senior Editor in the world. She helped me track my ID and also fixed the issue. Now, I'm back and I'm in a really good mood. It's really great to see my dashboard again. 💃💃Since we're past the problem, I'll be dropping the next batch of chapters by Saturday evening and of course, it'll be in bulk to make up for the delay. Also, I'll be changing our book cover to something else due to the new policy. But not to worry, the new one would be pretty too.Thank you all for your patience and support. Please continue to like (I barely see them 😩), comment, review (we still don't have enough ratings to draw in new readers 😩), share the book link, unlock chapters massively and support the author with gifts. EZRAN’S POV.Lucian replied under someone’s comment because of me? Gawd, the universe had a weird sense of humor. Barely a couple of days ago, I was crying over Lucian Banks. Now I was apparently trending on social media because of a profile picture Jeanne reshared.I could see my remaining bit of private life flying out of the window.Erik rushed into the room with his phone in hand, shrieking.“Lucian liked and replied to someone's comment under Jeanne’s post and now, your follower count has shot up from 200 to a little over 2k!”“Maybe he accidentally liked it.” I mumbled, biting my lips. The look Erik gave me was so judgmental that I nearly laughed.“Lucian Banks accidentally liked a comment?”“Yes.”“Do you even hear yourself, Ezran?” he chuckled. “If he accidentally liked it, then he must have accidentally replied too. Or maybe, someone hacked his account, or maybe, something possessed him.”I huffed. “Stop it, Er.”“You should stop forcing yourself to spew rubbish first, Ezran.
EZRAN’S POV.When I finally woke up, sunlight was pouring through the curtains. For several seconds, I just stared at the unfamiliar ceiling until a loud knock echoed through the room.“Wake up, sleeping beauty.” I knew it was Erik and his usual shenanigans, so I ignored him. The door opened anyway.“Good morning, sleeping handsome.”He said again and I lifted my middle finger without opening my eyes.“Wow.” He sounded impressed. “You’re healing already." “Go away.” I said, covering my head with the duvet as I went back to sleep.“No.”I groaned louder as I sat up on the bed. “Since you won’t let me go back to sleep, what time is it?”“Almost eleven.”My eyes snapped open and I jumped out of the bed, cursing. “Fuck, Erik. We have exams today!”“Relax, bro. I’m just pulling your legs. It’s seven o'clock.” Erik said, dropping onto the chair beside the desk. “Even though you slept through lunch and dinner yesterday and scared shit out of me, your stupid biological clock knows when to wa
EzRAN’S POV.For a moment, my heart betrayed me and I almost believed. As though hearing him ask me to stay would somehow magically erase everything that happened on the beach or it would stop hurting. It hurt because I hadn’t spent the entire night crying myself to sleep because I loved a man who loved somebody else.I tightened my grip around the handle of my suitcase.“I have exams.”Lucian stared at me disbelievingly. Neither of us spoke, silence stretching between us. Then he took a step forward.“You don’t have to leave like this.”Like what? Heartbroken, humiliated or embarrassed? Is that what he meant?I swallowed. “Like what?”“Without talking to me.”I almost laughed in self deprecation. What were we going to talk about? The fact that I confessed and he didn’t know what to say, the fact that Leo existed or the fact that I was stupid enough to mistake kindness for love?“There’s nothing to talk about.”“That isn’t true.”“Maybe for you.” The words came out colder than I int
EZRAN’S POV.I didn’t stop walking when Lucian called my name. My vision blurred from tears and my chest felt like it was being ripped apart.I just kept moving quickly, one step at a time. The villa slowly came into view and I pushed the doors open before anyone could stop me.My breathing was uneven, my hands were trembling and my heart was completely shattered.I rushed upstairs and slammed the bedroom door shut behind me, the sound echoed through the room.Everything crashed down at once, dawning on me.I slid down against the door and buried my face into my arms. A broken laugh escaped my throat.God, I was pathetic. I had actually confessed to Lucian and somehow managed to humiliate myself in the process. He didn’t even reject me, but I already understood my place.Lucian never loved me. To him, I was just another younger sibling he was meant to adore or something like that.I had spent a long time convincing myself that I had no attraction for him and when I finally decided to a
EZRAN'S POV.I didn’t sleep, not even for a second. The moment Charlyn finished telling me everything, my brain refused to shut down.Every single memory involving Lucian replayed itself over and over again—the teasing, the smiles, the beach walk, the head pat, the way he agreed to come on this trip because I asked, the way he had looked at me inside his room. And now? None of it felt special anymore, because Leo existed. A person Lucian had loved for years, a person he had chased for an entire year and had nearly destroyed himself over. How was I supposed to compete with that? I wasn’t. That realization hurt more than I expected.….Morning arrived too quickly and I dragged myself downstairs, towards the dining room, feeling exhausted. Breakfast was already set when I walked in. My eyes froze on a particular person. What was Leo doing here? And why was he sitting as if he didn’t know his coming here had upturned my entire world overnight.“Morning.” I mumbled as I dragged out my seat
EZRAN’S POVThe screen didn’t change immediately. That was the worst part.My face stared back at me from above, clearer than I wanted it to be. Every angle was amplified beyond words. The crowd reacted instantly. A wave of screams erupted and I froze. Beside me, Erik let out a strangled sound. “
EZRAN’S POVSaturday came faster than expected. It felt like I had just hung up the call with Erik, just stared at the ticket in my hand, and now—It was already here.I stood in front of the mirror for a second longer than necessary, adjusting the collar of my shirt before stepping back slightly. Qu
EZRAN’S POVThe ride back home was quieter than usual. I leaned my head slightly against the window, watching the city blur past in soft streaks of light and movement. My fingers tightened slightly around the edge of the tickets in my hand.“You’re something more.”I frowned faintly, shifting in my
A brief pause. “Name?”“Rowan Lyons.”….The next morning, I left the house earlier than usual. The drive to the office was uneventful, the city already alive with movement as we passed through the main roads. By the time I stepped into the building, everything had already settled into routine.M
