LOGINElvira’s POV
I watched as he turned on the TV, “The world mourns as the eldest daughter-in-law of the president was found dead and burnt in her car,” A newscaster announced following the scene of the accident. I watched the scene in horror— how did I survive that?—then the man holding a cigarette flashed through my mind, “Did.. did….. that… man save me?” “The truck driver?” The man scoffed, “You don’t get it yet? Do you really think it was an accident?” Come to think of it, he did hit me on purpose because there was no way he didn’t see my car, and I can’t remember him helping me; he just stood there with the cigarette and was making a phone call. The more I watched the news the more my heart shattered. The family I grew up with had accused me of embezzlement of company funds, fraudulent activity in the company, tax evasion, insider trading, data violations and bribery, and corruption. “My late wife was mentally unstable,” Casper cried, and I numbly watched, “She is the reason why our daughter is unconscious, she wanted to kill her, she almost killed me too, she was heavily into drugs, and that’s why she caused an accident.” I didn’t understand why so many lies were being cooked up against me, “That’s a lie… I…. I… I didn’t do any of it,” I said hoping one person in this room would believe me.” “Even if she was bad, she is still our family, and we must hold a funeral for her,” Mother said, her eyes were red, and I could tell she was pretending. Mother never cared about me, even as a child when I was hurt, she didn’t even tend to my wound. She always regretted the fact that she adopted me. “May my baby girl’s soul rest in peace,” My grandmother’s voice and teary eyes were the only things that were real. She was the third person I trusted, could I still trust her? All the news channels carried different lies against me and all I could do was watch them. I watched the people I called family destroy me in front of the world. “Turn it off!” I yelled when I couldn’t take it anymore, and the man turned it off. “Why did you show this to me? Who are you and what do you want from me?” “I just wanted to show you that you have no home to return,” The man said, “But if you insist then the door is wide open for you, excuse me,” He said then left the room. I tightened my fist and began to hit my chest aggressively. I couldn’t breathe, I screamed in my head as I allowed the tears to roll down my face. I was filled with so much anger and I didn’t know how to get rid of it. I have been crying for God knows how long. I was already numb, but my heart was still heavy. “Breakfast is ready,” The manager said as she entered the room and she dropped the tray on the bed. Only then did I look at the window and see it was already bright outside. “Who was that man?” I asked, “What is your name? Why are you here instead of the hotel?” I had so many questions to ask. “My name is Becky, and I work for that man, and that man is Mr Calix Kyrell. I believe you know him,” Becky said as she pushed the tray closer to me. Calix Kyrell? The owner of the Kyrell group, one of the biggest empires in the world. Everyone knew his name but had never seen his face. Why did he save me? What does he want from me? “You haven’t left?” Mr Calix said as he entered the room, his tone straight and his face stern. “What do you want from me?” I asked again. “I want to help you,” Mr Calix said with a straight face. “Why?” I questioned. “That shouldn’t be your concern. If someone is willing to extend a hand, then you should take it,” He said as he walked to stand in front of me. Nothing made any sense to me, why would someone like him want to help me? We don’t even know each other, nor have we crossed paths. What was his motive? “I cannot accept your help,” I replied. He nodded his head, his face emotionless, “Your sister and your husband are having an affair, they are expecting a child and they will soon get married. Your daughter is in a coma, you might never see her again and who is the cause? Your sister! Who gave your sister the audacity to do that? Your husband! You were attacked. If Becky hadn’t asked for my help, then you would have died in that fire, and again, you lost your baby before he even saw the day of light, and who did all those? Your family you trusted more than yourself. You are being painted as a bad person. You are either dead or wanted by the prosecutors for crimes you know nothing about and who did all that? Your family! If you walk out of here then you won’t walk out of there. Do you understand?” The harsh reality I had been trying to avoid came running back to me. The anger I felt in my body was worse than earlier, “What do you want me to do?” I yelled out of frustration, “I’m helpless!” “I want you to remember how they treated you, I want you to think of the child you lost and I also want you to remember the child in a coma! Always remember that you lost one child and the other is slipping away from you. No family hates the woman and loves the child of that woman, think of the life you want for her,” My head spun as Mr Calix spoke. What would really become of my Akira when she wakes up? That family hates me, would they really love my daughter? They purposely took my kids away from me, they used me and rendered me useless. “I will give you until tomorrow to make a decision, since you are already dead to the world you might as well jump from the top floor and end it or you can use me to make them beg and protect your daughter,” Mr Calix said, “I have a meeting to be at.”Elvira’s POV I tossed and turned when I couldn’t sleep. I closed my eyes but it was obvious I was deceiving myself. I stood up to get my pills when the door opened and it was Calix standing by the door. “I told you it didn’t work that way,” He said as he entered the room and shut the door behind him. “Do you need something?” I questioned politely. Calix shook his head, “I think it works because we are comfortable with each other.” “Huh?” I think I was lost in what he was saying. Without another word, Calix climbed into the bed and pulled me back into it, “Let’s sleep.” We lay straight on the bed with our faces facing the ceiling and only our breaths could be heard in the room.“Maybe it’s because we are comfortable with each other,” Calix said, breaking the silence.“Yeah,” That was the only thing that came to my mind. I badly wanted to ask him about his relationship with Chloe but I had already promised I wouldn’t do it.“This can be our new sleeping arrangement,” Calix said a
Elvira’s POV I paused while watching on the laptop and went to Becky’s laptop. I checked the date and time on the laptop I had with me and told them to fast-forward it to the same time on their own laptop. It was clear as daylight, I watched the footage from outside the penthouse after Leah entered with the food, a man who was wearing a hoodie entered, and a woman also entered but her face was covered. They entered with a key, how did they get the key to the penthouse? I had Karisa in mind but Karisa wasn’t this short. After a few minutes, the man and the woman walked out of the penthouse with Leah was who was unconscious then later on, Calix walked out leaning on the wall for support. “So that means they were all inside the house when everything happened,” I felt a bit of relief even tho I didn’t know what happened inside the house. I dropped the laptop containing the outside footage and went to the laptop with the living room footage. Calix was already unconscious in the living
Elvira’s POV “Huh?” I was still trying to process what was being said. “Mrs Kyrell, don’t you remember?” One of the engineers asked, “You gave us seven to keep for our personal experience and you had asked us to install the remaining three at the penthouse.” “You said people rarely go to the penthouse so it would be easy to test the camera without wondering what you might see,” Another engineer pointed out, refreshing my brain. The secret spy camera. The ones we were testing, how could I have forgotten something as important as that? “I’m sorry,” I apologize, “It completely skipped my mind, you know I have had a lot to deal with in the past few weeks.” “We understand,” One of the employees responded. “I will give you the key to the penthouse so you can pick them up and check if they are in perfect condition,” I said, “Then we can finally create a launch date for the product.” “So next on our agenda, is the appliance the camera will be a perfect fit for,” Another employee said,
Elvira’s POV When I got home, the door to Karisa’s house was open. Without thinking, I entered the house and everyone was in the living room. “Mrs Elvira, what are you…..” I slapped Karisa across the face before she could finish asking me her dumb question.“Mrs Elvira!” Casper yelled as he ran to hold his wife, “Can’t you see she is pregnant?” I almost laughed in their faces. I was pregnant too yet I was pushed downstairs, I was pregnant too yet I was murdered, “A slap won’t kill her or harm her child, it would only reset her brain.” “This may be your house but you do not have the right to slap my wife,” Casper said in defense of Karisa and I couldn’t even care. “What was that for?” Karisa yelled angrily at me with her hand still covering the place I had slapped her. “How dare you ask that question?” I yelled furiously, “Don’t you know what you did?” Karisa took a step away from her husband and stood eye level with me, “No, I do not know so please kindly refresh my memory.” “
Elvira’s POV The courtroom erupted into a place of noise. Keypads clicking, reporters writing this new revelation and my eyes fell on my suspect Karisa. She even seemed surprised but her eyes held curiosity that I couldn’t explain. That’s a new revelation, I lightly pinched Becky to get her attention, “How come I didn’t know about Calix’s allergy?” “You know,” Becky whispered while her eyes were focused on Leah, “When you wanted to make dinner for Mr Calix, I informed you about the use of nuts in the house.” “I thought he didn’t just like it,” I could swear Becky didn’t say much about it that day. “Really? I told your brother about his medical history, I know I told him it was confidential but I’m surprised he didn’t tell you,” She glanced at me then turned her attention back to the court. “That…. That…. That’s a lie,” Leah yelled in tears, “He was eating nuts on that day, I know the smell, I even touched it.” “Your honor, here is the evidence regarding Mr Calix Kyrell's medica
Elvira’s POVThe only thing that has been on my mind since I left Karisa’s room was the hotel footage. I drove straight to the hotel and went to the penthouse. I thought I was pissed, but now I’m even more pissed that they refused to give me the footage. I didn’t speak much; I called Calix, and Becky brought the footage to me.“You were the one who stopped them from bringing it earlier?” I couldn’t help but scoff. Becky nodded her head as she dropped the laptop in front of me, “I don’t think Mr Calix would want you to investigate this.” “Did he tell you that?” I questioned and Becky kept her mouth shut, “Or is there something I don’t know? You both seem pretty relaxed.” “Mr Calix isn’t relaxed, he hasn’t been able to sleep for days, the test results came back and they showed all three of you were drugged, he doesn’t know what to do or where to start from,” Becky said, “His grandfather wants to wash the case away but he doesn’t want to be proven innocent.” I have a strong feeling
Elvira’s POV “What? What did you say?” I asked Becky with surprise. “The lady who takes care of the house cleaning fell down the stairs and was rushed to the hospital,” Becky repeated what she said, “She won’t be able to work for some time.” What the heck? How did this happen? “Who else is aware
Karisa’s POV “Are you crazy?” Chloe raised her voice at me and I ignored her, “Don’t you dare keep quiet when I’m speaking to you.” “What are you yelling?” I questioned as I filed my nails. “How dare you go back to that house and beg for a job!” Chloe yelled at me. I dropped the nail file on th
Elvira’s POV“Mr and Mrs Jordan are here to see you,” Calix said from the door of my room while I was getting ready for the office. I glanced at him from the mirror, “Isn’t it too soon for them to come here? I mean we haven’t even thrown a bait.” Calix nodded his head, “I don’t trust them but you
Karisa’s POV “Babe, you good?” I asked as I entered the room. Casper was lying on the bed deep in thought. “You know we can’t stay at your brother’s place for long especially as he has gotten a job to be a private doctor for the Kyrell family,” Casper sighed and I understood his concern, “Have yo
