Sawyer Patterson intended to leave me again for his childhood sweetheart, Mathilde Payne. We'd been together for ten years, and this was our seventh engagement party. For the previous six times, Mathilde always had some kind of emergency. This time, I wasn't going to let him go. "We're about to exchange rings. It won't take long. She's just got a slight fever. It's not a big deal if you go later, right?" Sawyer lost it. "Can you stop making a scene? Mathilde has always been frail. We've been together for ten years. We can do without a ceremony." He walked out, leaving me behind with a broken heart. This time, I was truly done with him.

Chapter 1

Shaun Smith

Along with my friends, we silently roam the streets of Rome in the middle of the night.

We do everything we can to not get the attention of the people around us. But it’s not working because our presence is so strong. We are the type that when we enter a room, anyone's attention will immediately be focused on us, on me.

I looked around, sniffing the air as if I were looking for something.

“Are you sure about this place?” Ridge, the guy with the gray hair asked boredly as if he doesn’t want to be part of this chase. “If this is another wild goose chase, I swear, I will leave all of you,” Ridge said in annoyance.

Tyron rolled his eyes. “You’ve been ditching us for so long yet you're still here with us,” he said lazily and nodded his head. “Don't worry because according to the information I got, we are in the right place.”

Ridge scoffed. “And how many times have you endangered us with that information of yours?” he asked, feeling tired of this routine. “You always say we're in the right place. I just want to go home,” he added.

“How can you go home? We don’t even know where home is,” Tyron argued.

“We are definitely in the right place,” Chester said, the one with chestnut-brown hair. “Can't you smell the air? It's filled with the scent of a night-blooming flower,” he said excitedly to us.

I closed my eyes as I sniffed the air. “She's here,” I said, almost in a whisper. I turned to my friends with a grin on my face feeling excited. “Our Moon Goddess is here.”
