The loud bang of the door Emma had slammed shut right in front of his face did not make Zane back away. Instead of leaving with his pride wounded, the top actor's ego flared even more fiercely. The sting of such a blunt and painful rejection ignited an overwhelming possessive urge within him.

Emma's room door had not even been fully locked when Zane shoved it open from the outside. He strode inside with ragged breaths, the commanding aura he always carried in public now suffocating within the confines of the small hotel room. Without wasting another second, he grabbed Emma by the wrist and spun her around with a forceful yank until her back hit the door she had just closed.

"Let go, Zane!" Emma hissed, her eyes blazing with restrained anger.

"What's wrong with you, Emma?!" Zane demanded, his voice trembling low as he struggled to contain the storm of emotions threatening to explode. His grip around her wrist tightened even more, as though he feared that if he loosened it for even a second, this woman would disappear from his life forever. "What's gotten into you tonight? Huh?!"

Emma let out a bitter laugh, a hollow sound that struck Zane's ears with heartbreaking sadness. She did not struggle the way she usually would; she simply looked at him with eyes that had lost every trace of the admiration they once held.

"What's wrong? You're asking me what's wrong?"

"Yes! You never treat me this coldly!" Zane shouted, his face hardening with frustration. His jaw clenched as the memory of Emma pushing him away in the hallway earlier replayed in his mind. "You always..."

"You always what, Zane?" Emma cut him off sharply, her voice rising an octave and piercing straight through his ego. "Always humiliate myself in front of you? Always beg for your attention? Always act sweet and pretend to forget every woman you've slept with just so you wouldn't leave me? Is that what you want?"

Zane froze.

Emma's words struck him squarely in the chest. It was true. For the past seven years, Emma had been his safest harbor. No matter how many times his name appeared in the media alongside other actresses, Emma was always there in their apartment, preparing warm water and welcoming him with a warm embrace as though nothing had happened. Zane had grown accustomed to Emma's unquestioning acceptance. He had come to see her loyalty as something absolute, something that would never disappear.

"I'm tired, Zane. I'm really tired," Emma whispered, her breathing becoming uneven as the tightness in her chest slowly crept back.

"Emma!" Zane exclaimed, gripping both of her shoulders in frustration. "Why are you acting like this? Why are you making such a big deal out of something we've already made clear? We agreed from the very beginning that our relationship would stay this way, okay? We need each other, we're comfortable together, and I've always provided everything you need. A relationship without complicated commitments... this is what's best for us!"

To Zane, the word "marriage" was a terrifying shackle, something he refused to touch. And he believed that by giving Emma luxury and sharing his bed with her, it was more than enough to keep her by his side forever.

Emma looked at the man she had loved so deeply with eyes that grew dimmer by the second. Zane's words that night became the clearest proof that her seven years of sacrifice had never been worth more than satisfying his needs. Her head, still slightly dizzy from the lingering effects of the alcohol, felt even heavier.

With every bit of strength she had left, Emma jerked herself free, knocking Zane's hands off her shoulders. The distance between them widened once again, creating an invisible chasm far too deep to cross.

"Enough. I'm tired," Emma said, her voice flat and cold again, as cold as the ice water that had been poured over her face an hour earlier. She turned her back on Zane and walked toward the edge of the bed, refusing to look at his handsome face anymore. "You should leave now. If you're looking for warmth tonight, you should go find Violet Iris. I'm sure she'll be more than happy to satisfy you."

The name Violet coming from Emma's lips sounded like a slap across Zane's face. He clenched his fists tightly. His anger, his wounded pride, and his frustration at being unable to control the situation caused his rationality to vanish.

"Emma!" Zane roared, his voice thundering through the hotel room.

Emma did not move. She remained seated on the edge of the bed with her back to him, her posture rigid.

"Fine! If that's what you want!" Zane shouted in fury.

He turned around with heavy, angry strides, grabbed the doorknob, stormed out of Emma's room, and slammed the door with such force that the deafening bang shook the walls.

The moment the sound of Zane's footsteps faded into the hallway, the wall Emma had built around herself collapsed instantly.

Her shoulders, which had remained so rigid just moments ago, slumped in exhaustion. She drew her knees to her chest, buried her face against them, and finally allowed the tears she had been holding back to fall in silence. Her body trembled violently in the suffocating stillness of the hotel room. The pain in her chest felt so real, as though her heart were being sliced into thin pieces by reality itself.

Seven wasted years.

Seven years devoted to a man who had never seen her as anything more than a source of comfort.

Yet amid her silent sobs, the image of the mirror in Room 6009's bathroom suddenly flashed through her mind. The reflection of herself filled with determination, the memory of the mysterious and powerful middle-aged man named Lucas Moura Blackwood, and the blind dating application that had already recorded all of her information.

Emma roughly wiped away her tears with the back of her hand. Her breathing was still uneven, but the sorrow in her tear-filled eyes slowly hardened into determination.

"Be patient, Emma... Stay strong," Emma whispered to herself, her voice hoarse yet firm. "There are still twenty-three days left."

Twenty-three days.

That was all that remained of the one-month wager she had given Zane. Three final weeks before the Match-Prime application would process all of her data and match her with a complete stranger for a contract marriage. Emma swore that if, within those twenty-three days, Zane did not come crawling back on his knees to apologize and bring her a real wedding ring, then she would truly walk away.

She would let that marriage contract carry her as far away from Zane as possible and transform herself from an obedient assistant into the woman who would make Zane regret every inch of his foolishness for the rest of his life.

The cold air from the air conditioner inside the luxury SUV instantly evaporated, replaced by a wave of heat that burned the atmosphere between them. The remaining distance between their faces was now no more than a fingernail's breadth. Emma's warm, panting breath blew directly onto the surface of Lucas's lips, shattering the remaining rational defenses he had taken pride in for years."Just once... let us finish what we started last night," Emma whispered again, her voice hoarse and extremely alluring. That sentence became the final trigger for the explosion of emotion and passion Lucas had been holding back since last night. The fortress of pride he had fiercely maintained finally collapsed without a trace. The billionaire's patience was completely exhausted.Without warning, Lucas's strong hands moved swiftly to grasp Emma's slender waist. With one powerful, dominant pull, he lifted her body from the seat, moving her until Emma was now sitting perfectly on his lap, straddling his

The morning sun had just begun to peek out from behind the skyscrapers, casting warm rays along the sidewalks of the main street. Emma stood by the roadside, wearing a simple white blouse and black trousers, waiting for the taxi she had booked through an app. Her face looked refreshed, as though the burden of the past seven years with Zane had been completely lifted from her shoulders. However, the tranquility of that morning did not last long.A black SUV with dark-tinted windows suddenly came to a stop right beside her with a sharp screech of tires. Before Emma could even step backward to avoid it, two burly men in black suits jumped out. Without giving her a chance to scream, one of them swiftly grabbed Emma by the arm, while the other opened the rear door and shoved the woman into the cold cabin.“Hey! What the hell is this?!” Emma exclaimed, startled by the sudden attack. The car door immediately slammed shut, and the vehicle sped away, cutting through the flow of traffic. Emma h

Zane's breathing was still ragged as shards of glass from the bottle he had smashed scattered across the gleaming marble floor. The atmosphere around the VIP corridor instantly fell into silence. Several of Zane's friends stood frozen with pale faces, not daring to utter a single word as they witnessed the outburst of the leading actor who usually appeared calm and confident in public.Amid the turmoil of rage burning inside Zane's chest, Violet Iris carefully stepped closer. She wore the gentlest smile she could manage, hiding the shock she felt over Zane's excessive reaction. Reaching out, Violet softly stroked Zane's muscular arm while resting her head against his shoulder."Zane, calm down... Don't let your emotions get the better of you," Violet whispered in a soft, soothing voice, trying to restore the confidence that had just been shattered.Zane did not answer. His eyes remained fixed on the empty corridor where Emma had disappeared. The overwhelming sense of resentment still

A mocking laugh escaped Zane's lips, breaking the tense atmosphere in the nightclub's main hallway. He shook his head with a look of contempt, dismissing Emma's sharp words as nothing more than the empty bluff of a woman panicking because her pride had been wounded."What are you talking about, Emma? Don't be ridiculous," Zane said in a taunting tone, looking her up and down. "Didn't you come here looking for me? That's such a cheap excuse. I know you too well. For the past seven years, you've never been able to escape my shadow."Violet, standing beside him, wore a smug smile as she tightened her grip around Zane's muscular arm, as if proudly displaying her claim over him.Feeling that his ego had been challenged in front of his friends, Zane suddenly folded his arms across his chest. An arrogant expression spread across his face as he prepared to deliver what he believed would be an emotional blow that would make Emma break down in tears and beg at his feet."If that's what you want

Emma’s blood instantly boiled upon hearing the dismissive words from the mature man in front of her. Her pride, which had just been trampled on by Zane, was now ignited even worse by Lucas’s cold attitude. Instead of feeling afraid or shrinking back, Emma’s emotions exploded past the boundaries of rationality."A professional male model?" Emma hissed, the corner of her lips curving into a dangerous, defiant smile. "Save that cheap advice for yourself, Mr. Blackwood."Without wasting any time, Emma rose from the sofa in a swift movement, strutted arrogantly toward the VIP room door, and pulled the knob as if she were truly about to leave the place. However, just as the door opened halfway, Emma’s steps halted. She turned back in a flash, shut the door again with a sharp *click*, and charged toward Lucas, who was still standing in his spot with a stunned gaze. Before Lucas could react, Emma pushed the man’s broad chest hard backward until his back hit the king-sized bed in the room, fal

The dim neon lights and the heavy thump of the bass music filled the atmosphere of the upscale nightclub. Emma walked slowly along the VIP corridor lined with a thick red carpet. Her only reason for coming to this place was to find a change of scenery, to quiet her mind after leaving behind the seven years of memories she had just walked away from.Deep within the deepest corner of her heart, there was still a tiny part of her that hoped her departure would come as a shock—that Zane would at least feel her absence, reflect on himself, or even realize the emptiness of life without her. However, that fragile hope shattered the moment Emma passed by the half-open door of a private room. From the gap in the door, loud laughter echoed clearly. Inside the luxuriously decorated room, Zane was sitting comfortably on the center sofa, his arm wrapped intimately around Violet's waist. Several of Zane's closest friends—who had known all too well for years about Emma's devotion and sacrifices as b
