“Till death do us apart.”
That was my thought as I plunged face up from the height. As my arms flailed against nothing, the night air clawed at my skin, causing an excruciating pain from the open wounds on it. My vision blurred into a cold haze, before I hit the tiled floor with a loud thud. I felt my skin damp against the blood that pooled from my head.
I should be thinking of my life. Of my mother's funeral, the last time I'd see her smile, my happy memories with Rapheal.. but none of them existed. My mind was only filled with rage and fear that had brought me here.
To the edge of freedom and oblivion.
Like everyone's fantasy, getting married to a famous mafia billionaire was a dream come true. But in my case, it was a nightmare I wanted to escape. I still remember the first time it happened. He had stormed into the house, drunk as usual and when I tried to confront him, in hopes that he would at least apologize for his actions, he pounced on me till I went numb.
The funeral had ended quite early, after I managed to deal with the whispers and strange looks from the guests, thanks to the patches and maps on my face.
After I managed to hide the rest with my dress.
Earlier, the house had been oppressively quiet, as it always was when Raphael was away with one of his mistresses. My phone buzzed with a message I wasn't expecting – the hospital confirming what I feared; I was pregnant. My pulse quickened , a mix of fear and resolve flooding through me. I couldn't raise my child here.
The courage that surged through me made me sign the divorce paper, I had been hiding for months. If I wanted to achieve this feat, I had to leave here before he came back.
Everything was already set but while dragging my luggage through the glass hallway, I ran into Gladys, my husband's most treasured mistress. Her eyes scanned me with disgust.
“Where are you headed?”
“I.. I'm..leaving.” I managed to stammer, clutching my bag tighter.
A bitter laugh rippled from her throat
“You what?” She pushed me with an arched brow. “ If anyone should be leaving, it's Raph and not you!”
I gulped, gathering a small strength.
“Get out of my way.”
“How ungrateful can you be, Yuanita? You should be thanking your husband for even stooping so low to marry you. Do you know the multitude of women that wish to be in your place?”
“They can have him for all I care!” I finally snapped, and pushed past her, dragging my luggage along with me. Her brown eyes followed me with a dark rage before she grabbed the picture from my tight grip.
“What's this?” She grabbed my shoulder, in another confronting manner, glaring at the white and black image of what was growing in me.
“This…this..” her lips parted in disbelief. “It can't be real..”
“Give it back!” I tried to snatch it from her, but she lunged, gripping them tighter.
“So you think I'm just going to let you leave like that?”
I stared at her in surprise. “This is what you have always wanted. You’re supposed to be happy about it.”
“You can get lost for all I care. But I won't let you go with what's his!”
My pulse hammered against my ribs. I wouldn't let her take this from me. This child was mine. My choice. My future.
Determined, I pushed her and grabbed the image from her.
“I let you have my husband, Gladys.” My breath was haggard but I kept going. “I won't let you have my child too.”
I pushed past her but her hand caught mine. We stumbled backwards before my heels hit the railings and I slipped.
What should have been a peaceful divorce, ended up being my death turn.
As I lay in my own blood, knowing I won't last long, anger washed through me. It was never my fault to begin with. Fate had only chosen me as a collateral. I stared at the stars above me, that shone bright and cold, indifferent to my suffering. My hand still instinctively went to my stomach.
“I'm sorry.” I breathed in tears, cursing the heavens as blood gurgled from the corners of my lips, before darkness finally swallowed me.
RAPHEAL As we talked about many things while the car raced to the house, my heart palpitated in a crazy manner. I had made ample plans because I didn’t know what her fate was, but I was willing to try again with her. This time in a quiet manner. Just as the small fire in her eyes had gone dim, replaced by this sad look of the unknown, my heart was long gone with her. She may not be here for long, but I wanted to give her the best last days of her life. When the taxi pulled up in front of the house, she didn’t act so surprised, which I knew I had coming. There was more to it. “This place looks like it’s been frequented for a while.” With a sharp inhale, I squeezed her palm while leading her into the house. “I made sure to take care of it. I couldn’t let such a sacred place of ours disappear.” Her lips curled into a small smile. “We had so many memories here.” The sun was long gone, casting a dark cloud with many stars shining and a bright moon. I jus
SERAFINA. It was just the two of us in the room. It has always been the two of us since he woke up. Rapheal has refused to leave my side and prolly moved into my room with me, monitoring me and doing everything single thing for me. I wasn’t even allowed to lift a finger besides him. Although I missed him and enjoyed every single bit of it, a part of me held a guilt so deep, for the fact that I was going to leave him. He was clearly doing it all to know if he can somehow get me to stay with him. Sometimes, I catch him crying at night and it breaks my heart. He tried everything in his powers to make me happy and cheerful, but he was breaking inside. On my own part, I didn’t know if it was being with Rapheal or maybe because there was nothing bothering me again, I knew I was fast recovering for someone who had lost her powers and was at the brink of death. Whatever it was, I had resolved to spend the rest of my days with Rapheal. And by that, I managed to
RAPHEAL Distorted noises drifted into my ear drums, and being accompanied with little pains stabbing across my skin, I felt irritated. I blinked hard, trying to grasp what was of my environs, I had forgotten how the last one turned out. I just hoped Serafina was safe. After struggling for a while, the voices had become quite clear, making out my mom’s own, Ruben and another male voice which seemed kind of familiar. My eyes opened to a large white ceiling above me, which trailed down to a few faces staring at me, and the nauseating scent of flowers. “Rapheal?” My mom called, inching closer to me. “Are you getting to it now?” The smell of the flowers were strong with her, as if she wore them as a perfume. “Ger the doctor!” She yelled at the nurse standing there, who dashed out in fear. “Rapheal?” She was annoyingly noisy. I studied the scenery again, from the massive overhead window, the gray couch, side table lined with drinks, food and
SERAFINA “Move it!!” “Get the saline!!” “Shock!! One two!! Clear!!” “Damn..” the doctor I had just walked out of his office pinched his nose tightly. “What the hell happened to him?” The rest of the hospital staff shuddered at his voice, and retreated in fear. “He was recovering well this morning when I made my rounds.” A nurse explained. “His pupils even responded to the lights for the first time.” “Why wasn't this reported to me?” The man questioned. “We..I..” “What's happening?” Helen's voice sobbed, as she and Ruben rushed in at once. “What happened to him?” “Please I need you both to calm down.” The man tried to persuade them, but Helen escaped from his grip, almost stumbling on Rapheal. Ruben turned to the doctor with rage in his eyes. “What the hell is going on man?! Why won't nobody say anything? What..” Helen gripped Rapheal's numb hand, wrapping it in hers. “It's ridiculously cold.” “My baby is so cold.” She crie

RAPHEAL She flinched as soon as she saw me, before her face scrunched like she had just tasted something nasty. My widened eyes darted from her blood spattered body to the man clutching his abdomen and the fright intensified. “You are here.” she muttered with no hint of chalancy.
