LOGINCHAPTER 3
JENNA’S POV Rays of sunlight hit my face as I struggled to hide underneath the duvet. “Can’t I sleep a little longer?” I murmured, at this point I just wanted to go back to sleep as head throbbed harder even in my pre conscious state. I murmured “ I'm not ready to wake up yet, cover the damn blinds” I felt so wasted. A brutal reminder of the amount of tequila shots I took. Groaning, I rolled over in an attempt to dodge the rays of light. My hands brushed against something. “Move cassy.” I tried to pry my eyes open, I regretted it instantly. I should have just stuck with the regular two glasses of martini I usually take. Wait, I never let Cassy sleep on my bed. She's got this habit of spreading her body everywhere. If this isn't Cassy, then who is? My once heavy eyelids opened wide in horror as I jerked up from the bed. I scanned the room, this looked nothing like my room. Panic clawed the wayy up my throat. Where the hell was I? It was him. My gaze landed on the bed. Why the fuck was I on a bed with a strange man? I was more angry at my self for not remembering anything that happened after the club. Confusion filled my mind, a million questions still trying to be processed. I tiptoed to the side of the bed where this figure laid. His body sprawled over the bed. “Who are you?” I yelled. The rage inside me grew with every second that passed. He jerked up from the sound of my voice as he scanned the room. For a moment there he looked lost. “Hey! Hey! I can explain.” He lifted his hands in surrender. “I know bastards like you, you spiked my drink and took advantage of me” my eyes landed on the bed stand as I lifted up a vase. “Hey! Drop that and listen to me.” “You think I'd let you go after you raped me?” I spat. His brows furrowed in confusion, “If I had raped you, I wouldn't have driven you down to my apartment. Rather I would have left you in the club to actually get raped.” He could be lying, I didn't want to hear any word from him again. I felt an energy surge brew within me, I swung. He staggered back, as though he’d lost his balance His expression only read confusion. “Why..... what was that for?” He stammered. He walked up to me and grabbed my shoulders. His gaze fixed on me and all I could see was ... .nothing. “I would never do anything to hurt you, I promise.” “Whatever happened between us had your consent. Yes you were drunk but I made sure you were aware and wanted it to happen. I'm truly sorry.” He lowered his head as he dropped himself on the bed. I felt sorry for him, maybe shouldn't have done that in the first place. My eyes scanned the room this time in search of my clothes until my gaze fell on this strange man. His hands, they were bleeding. I gasped “Oh goodness! I'm really sorry about what I did,” I quickly grabbed onto a clothe lying on the floor. I yanked it apart not caring who owned it. “You don't have to do this.” His expression remained unclear. I couldn't tell if he was sad or angry. I knelt by his side as I carefully wrapped his bleeding arm. “ I'm sorry,” I mumbled. Silence filled the room as I watched him hold onto his arm, thankfully the bleeding had stopped. “Hey, I felt we had a connection.” He paused to look at me. “I knew from the first time I saw you at the club that I wanted you.” “I really would never do anything to hurt you.” A bright idea popped into my head. Oh my God! Did he just say he wanted me? This could be my cue to propose my plan. If I look on the bright side, he was the reason I went to the club; to get a boyfriend. A sheepish smile carved on my lips. You don’t get to see opportunities flying around everyday. I cleared my throat. “what I'm about to say might sound bizarre , but just hear me out”. My voice started to tremble slightly. “My grandfather wants me to get married, which I don't want to. I know this is none of your business though, but given we found ourselves in an unforeseen circumstance, I thought to bring it up.” I paused to wait for a reaction yet he looked the least bothered about what I'd just said. I looked up at him, pleading. “ please I'm sorry and I know this is insane. I just need you to do me a favour, please!” I continued, “I'll pay anything you ask for please!” His eyes pierced sharply into mine. I got him by the tail. Safe to say Cassy was right about waving some money in their face.” “I don't need your money?” His voice was low and firm. Oops, I guess Cassy was wrong after all. “What then do you want?” “I really like you,” he spat. “Okay, here's the deal. How about you pretend to be my boyfriend, we get engaged and then call it off after 3 months,” “Bold of you to assume I'll agree to that after trying to smash my brain with a vase.” He gave a slight shrug. “I admit I was wrong,” my head bent in embarrassment, I continued, “ which is why I'm offering to pay for damages and your services,” The room fell silent again. I needed to get out of this room, out of this messed up situation. I eyed my dress and purse hanging on the side of a stool. As I headed for the bathroom, i fumbled my purse and finally drew up a card. “Here,” I said stretching the card at him. “This is my business card, my address and phone number are written on it.” I continued, “and yeah, 7pm for dinner tonight at my place.” Without a word from him yet again, I turned and walked to the bathroom. He was still sitted in the same position. *** ** *** ** ** ** The smell of roasted turkey filled my airways making my tummy rumbled in hunger. I’d been so worked up by everything that happened earlier this morning that I forgot to eat. I checked my phone every second as time ticked. It was 6:45pm and yet no word from the strange man. Dinner started and it was past 7pm. Grandpa kept throwing side eyes at me as he bit into his meal. “You're either going to eat you meal or stop playing with the goddamn cutlery” grandpa shot at me. He obviously believes what I said about having a boyfriend was a lie. “Dating men who don't keep to time are big red flags, Jenna. Without wasting further time I'll begin with the wedding arrangements.” I picked up my phone, it was past 7:30pm. That bastard! Just when I thought he could be my escape plan. “Ding” the door bell rang. “Don't worry, I'll get that,” I said to the maid as I raced to the door. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was him, the strange man. “Did I make it in time?” He blurted.CHAPTER 125ROB’S POV“You’re late” I said, as cold air escaped from my mouth. As ominous as this place looked, it sure packed a lot of chill than outside. The only reason Isabelle would have picked this place was because of how closed off it was from any and everybody. Isabelle’s face appears from behind the shadows. She looked different from last week, perhaps she’d wanted me to believe her lies through her looks also. “Never has it been a problem to arrive fashionably late.” She replies with a grin. Her outfit for today looked too fashionable for just a few talk. A leopard’s skin fur coat covered at most 90 percent of her silhouette, except for the thigh high boots that refused to be outshone. I tear my gaze away from analyzing her choice of clothing even further. “Can we begin?” “Yes! Yes! Of course.”I adjust myself on a crate, shoving my hands deep into the pocket of my leather jacket. The faint feel of my fingers against the transmitter clipped to my belt reminded me of mu
CHAPTER 124ROB’S POVI’ve driven into a lot of storms but none like this. I was unsure of how exactly to feel. But I knew for sure it was now or never. I peered into phone. Exactly one hour until it was time. Sixty minutes before my fate is decided. Could this be the end of start of a world for me? A surge of adrenaline flows through me, hitting every vein with a hard punch. If only she knows what’s coming. I looked back up at the fog covered road ahead of me. The drive to Jenna’s was a plan I hadn’t given a second thought. I didn’t call ahead. Part of me was terrified that if I did, she’d immediately decline seeing me or worse, let the phone ring till I got tired. I wouldn’t be able to bear the rejection at a time like this. My hand hovered over her apartment door for about three seconds longer before I hit the door bell. Another extra minute came, but it felt like an hour before I heard sound of keys and locks opening up. The door swung open, a surprised and then disappointe
CHAPTER 123ISABELLE’S POVThe faint red glow of the alarm clock continued to buzz by the side of my vision. It didn’t bother me that I hadn’t slept yet. 3:45am and my mind was still as sharp as you would after downing an entire jar of coffee. That had been my fate for the past week. Sleep had now become luxury. No matter how many times I managed to close my eyes, she was always there. The smell of her stuffy room choked me like it was present. Her wretched face haunted me everywhere I looked. Perhaps this was a bad idea. Letting Damien resurface something I’d buried a long time ago. Because to him ‘Elena was still a fresh kill and getting enough evidence to frame Rob wouldn’t be a problem.’Walking into the bathroom, I didn’t bother turning on the overhead lights. I looked pathetic and I didn’t want to remember how ghostly I looked. My skin had gone pale and my eyes sunk into my sockets even worse than the previous week. I avoided the sight of the mirror as I scattered through
CHAPTER 122ROB’S POVThe woman at the front desk looked at us as though we were an inconvenience. The sharp sigh from her lips was enough to tell as she dropped down the piece she was knitting. Her lips pressed thin as she swung towards our direction for the second time. “I already told you, we don’t disclose information about any of our residents here. Both old and new, now if you would stop interrupting me.” I didn’t know how long we’d been standing here for, but it was long enough for my patience to start running out. “Ma’am, we just need to confirm if Elena stayed here and if she did you’d be doing us a really huge favour.”“No.” The reply came rather too quickly. “I’m sorry if you don’t leave right now, I might need to call the cops on you.”Before I knew it, Phil had already whipped out his badge. The shiny metal reflecting beneath the fluorescent lights. “We’re investigating a homicide,” he says calmly. “So you can either decide to let this go the easy way or we come back wi
CHAPTER 121ROB’S POVThe holding room smelled of dust and coffee. I sat rigidly on the metal chair, the sound of metal handcuffs clanked against each other every time I moved. Above me the almost dim fluorescent light flickered at intervals. My irritation heightened along with it. “Let’s try this again,” one of the officers glanced up at me, lazily flipping through a thin file. “I already told you everything.” I leaned back into my chair, letting out a very exhausting sigh. There was no clock in the room and I could only wonder how long I’d been here for. An hour? Two?Another officer who’d been standing at the corner of the room arms crossed inched closer, drawing out one of the chairs across from me. “What was your relationship with Elena like?”“I barely knew her.”The officer raised a brow, scoffing almost immediately. “You really expect us to believe that?”“Yes I do!” I snapped, hitting my cuffed wrists on the table. “She used to work for Isabelle and that’s it.”“And how lo
CHAPTER 120ROB’S POV“Sure you don’t want to get that?” Phil points towards the direction where my phone had been ringing for the past minute. I grunt out, stretching forward to grab the phone. I’m suprised at the caller. It’s Cassy?I couldn’t think of a proper reason for why she would be calling but one reason kept resonating in my mind. I swiped the answer button instantly. “Cassy! Uhm hi, it’s weird to see your call.” I almost cringed from embarrassment after saying that. Probably not the best idea to spew out exactly what’s on your mind. “Yeah, Rob.” A long exhale followed, almost like she was running out of breath.“Are you okay?”“Yes, yes! I know this is already awkward but it shouldn’t be me you should be worried about….” I chime in before she completes her sentence. “Is Jenna okay? What happened?”“I know I wasn’t supposed to tell you this, but I couldn’t figure out who else to call. Jenna is being irrational right now and she won’t listen to me.”I can feel my body an
CHAPTER 58JENNA’S POVBy the time I’d gotten home, it was unusually quite so I figured the baby had already fallen asleep. Rob and I never got to think of a name, but the name Arden had always stuck with me. Cassy was here too. She had stopped by Adrian’s place to watch the baby while I was out a
CHAPTER 59JENNA’S POVSince the day Adrian and I had almost kissed, I’d tried by all means to avoid him. Maybe, just maybe I was scared to confront my own feelings. This time I’d managed to corner him and hid in the kitchen. “Are you avoiding Mr pretty face?” Cassy’s voice shook me away from the
CHAPTER 60JENNA’S POVWhile I was still wallowing in my previous thoughts Cassy walked back into the kitchen. “A letter for you.” She said, handing down the brown envelope. I ripped the seal carefully and pulled out a piece of paper. It was a notice. A custody hearing schedule. My breath left me
CHAPTER 52ROB’S POV Jenna’s gaze on me still carried a sparkle from how excited she was and for some reason that brought a little warmth to my heart. But how do I let her know I didn’t send the goddamn gift. If I did, she’d be broken for sure and that would only leave me with a sad and now susp
