LOGINMiriam''s POV.
As much as I would love to say those words to his face, I kept my mouth closed while cursing him heavily in my mind.
His eyes were wide with shock, most probably surprised to see me working at la amore.
Well I got you this job, bitch.
“That will be all for now, I am sure everyone wants to go for their lunch break now so I won't waste your time anymore.” Mrs Jones added before turning around to leave but Williams' gaze was still locked on me .
And some people were starting to notice.
“Wait, why is he looking at Miriam like he just saw a ghost?” one of my colleagues whispered.
“Do they know each other?” Another whispered.
“Mr Davidson, is everything okay?” Mrs Jones asked.
“Yes.” William responded, turning around to follow Mrs Jones while still looking stunned.
Good, the more surprised he is the better.
I just hope I don't get to be in the same team he is going to work with.
*****
“What?” I yelled out, completely losing my composure.
I was currently sitting in Mrs Jones office along with five other of my colleagues and they were looking at me like I just grew a second head.
But I might as well have because what Mrs Jones was telling me was not making any sense.
Why do I have to work with that bastard? I just had an icky feeling that Sara had something to do with this.
“Is everything okay Miriam?” Mrs Jones asked, looking concerned.
“Yeah, I am just surprised….you know this seems like such a high profile job… I can't believe I will be part of the team.” I said smiling as much as I could although I was going through a mental breakdown in my head.
“I believe this is going to be a nice learning experience for you. Besides you have Clara, I am sure she is going to put you through.” Mrs Jones added.
I nodded my head. I never would have thought my lunch break would be interrupted with such tragic news, but at least on the bright side I can get first hand information about the project and I can supervise it.
This project was of very important value to the company. If I were to go back in time I would definitely have not given William’s unqualified ass this opportunity.
“Thank you ma for this opportunity.”
I walked out of the room feeling burdened.
Today has been so hectic. I just wish I could teleport to the comfort of my home and lay on my soft comfy bed.
“Arghhhh.” I groaned into my arm as soon as I sat down on the chair.
The soft buzz of my phone snapped me back to reality.
“Did you like my gift?” Sara texted with a smiling emoji.
I knew it, she was definitely behind this.
“I am going to skin you alive when I get you.” I texted back, completely fuming inside.
“Come on, I thought you wanted revenge, as the saying goes keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I am helping you out here. But do you know what I think when he finds out I am the CEO of the company he might lose it.” She texted back with a laughing emoji.
That was true, Sara's identity as my business partner and CEO of la amore was also kept on a low profile.
“Well at least we can look on the bright side of things. As much as I want to get rid of him as soon as possible I can't let the project be affected.”
“Okay see you soon then. Xxx”
Soon? I frowned, confused.
“Okay team Brown rover you are needed at the conference room we have a meeting with the CEO.” Mrs Jones announced.
Oh! So this is what Sara meant.
“Come on, let's go.” Clara parted my back.
With a deep sigh I stood up from my seat, ready for the drama that was about to unfold.
“This is the first time I will be seeing the CEO.” One of the girls with us muttered with excitement.
“Well I heard she is incredibly beautiful, maybe I could charm her with my looks.” Another of my colleagues, a male this time around chimes in and I could not help but smirk.
If there was one person no one could charm, that would be Sara.
I had been to the conference room multiple time but always undercover so as not to expose my identity.
“You seem to know your way around here.” Clara chimed in.
“Huh?” I asked confused
“I mean you knew we were about to take a turn at the corner before I said anything. Have you been here before?” She asked.
One attribute about Clara I seem to have noticed is that she has an extremely kind eye to things.
“Uhmmm…. I figured it would be at the right turn and it….it has the same layout as the formal company I worked at.” I lied straight through my teeth.
“Oh! What company did you work for?” She asked.
Damn, I did not think this through. Was I really about to expose my real identity on my first day?
“Okay guys, remember to stay poised and professional.” Mrs Jones interrupted before I could answer but I could not be more thankful.
“Let's go in.” I urged Clara who seemed nervous.
We all settled into our respective seats and not too long after Sara walked in with a stoic expression on her face and I almost burst out laughing.
This is the first time I am seeing her in a professional setting and she looked cool but knowing how goofy she was behind her blank look was not helping matters.
Her eyes found mine and she raised her brows at me, causing me to frown my face.
“Miriam.” Clara whispered beside me.
I turned around to see my colleagues all looking at me like I just committed a huge crime and that was when I noticed I was the only one still sitting down.
I quickly stood up, my face flushed with embarrassment.
“Let's begin.” Mrs Jones sent me a variety of glances, most probably a warning for me to behave myself.
“Where is Mr Davidson?” Sara asked and right on cue, he walked in with a smug look on his face which immediately wiped off his face as soon as he saw Sara and I sitting in the same room.
“Mr Davison, we were just waiting for you.” Mrs Jones offered him a seat while his gaze shifted from Sara to mine.
“I told you he was going to be dumbstruck.” My phone buzzed with a message from Sara.
“Well let's see how he reacts once he finds out you are his boss.” I replied.
“Mr Davidson meet the CEO of la amore, Mrs Norman.” Mrs Jones introduced with an innocent smile on her face unbeknownst of the situation that was unfolding.
“What?” William yelled, looking appalled.
“Nice to meet you, Mr Davidson.” Sara extended her hands towards him while William stood frozen.
Checkmate bitch.
Lazar’s POVMy children’s tenth birthday made me realize that there was nothing I wouldn’t do for my family. There was no sacrifice too big.“Daddy, this is so amazing! Thank you!” Aiden yelled when he opened the video game I got him.“There’s more where that came from, honey.” I smiled at him.Amelia opened her dollhouse and gasped. She was a real feminine girl. Even at ten, she was still obsessed with dolls and I didn’t discourage her at all. I would always support my children no matter what they did. As long as it wasn’t something that wouldn’t harm them.“Thank you so much.” She gave me a hug and I lifted her up in the air.We posed for pictures and Miriam kept smiling really widely.“You look like the birthday girl,” I whispered in her ear at some point and she giggled.“Mock me all you want but nothing can stop my excitement today.”Our friends were all present and it felt amazing. Too good to be true. Just at that very moment, there was a loud gunshot in the air and almost ever
Miriam’s POV“Lazar, you’re back?” I asked in shock. “When did you arrive?”I was still in shock so it felt completely unreal when he enveloped me in a tight hug. Even though this was exactly what I had been praying for, it seemed unreal seeing it unfold right in front of my eyes.“Yes, I am, baby. I have missed you so much,” he said out loud but in my ears he whispered, “I’m so sorry, babe. I will explain everything to you later.”Without any further hesitation, I grabbed his face and kissed him deeply. The kids yelled and giggled but I ignored them.“Eww, mom and dad! Kissing is so gross!”“Well, I have missed your father so much. Don’t judge me if I want to kiss him.”“You can kiss him but not in front of us.” They said before running off to play with their iPads.“Come on, let’s go upstairs so we can talk privately.”***The next couple of minutes were spent calling our family and friends that knew about his absence to tell them that he was back. They were all relieved and happy t
Miriam’s POVEverything was going normally. The party planner had sent out the invites and started decorating our backyard in preparation for the party tomorrow. The twins had been informed of the new development and they squealed in excitement. I told them to write a wishlist of whatever they wanted for their birthday.“Anything?” They asked simultaneously with huge smiles on their faces.“Yes, anything for the both of you!”“Oh my God! Thank you mummy.” Amelia hugged me and I tried to pick her up but she was just too heavy.“You babies are getting too big for me to carry.”“Aww. Mom! Please don’t call us babies anymore. Our friends are going to be here tomorrow. If you call us babies, they won’t stop teasing us about it.”“You guys are my babies,” I said with emphasis on the word ‘are’. “But since you guys insist, I won’t say anything like that in front of your friends.”“Thank you, Mom.”“Now, go ahead and write your lists before I change my mind,” I teased them and they scampered
Lazar’s POVLilian kept switching up on me and it was starting to get exhausting trying to keep up. One night, I decided it was time to leave. After being unable to call anyone or leave the house for a long time, I was starting to have hallucinations of my family. What if something had happened to them while I was hiding out here? What if the people who wanted the drugs have already traveled down to torture my family? The thought of it alone was what pushed me out of my hiding place despite the high risk attached to it.The last time I went out at night, I had gotten jumped, on top of the excruciating, painful, infected wound on my shoulder. It was going to be even more dangerous this time because I had the package on me. I couldn’t leave it at Lilian’s place so it was my only other option. The journey back to civilization was a stressful one to say the least. Everything hurts. It had been yes, as my body has experienced this amount of pain. I wasn’t getting any younger so it wasn’t
Miriam’s POVI told them everything that happened. About how I got a call from Anita, explaining what was going on to me.“I don’t understand. How did Anita know that you were the one calling?” Serena asked“Apparently, she saw that my number kept calling him over and over so she decided to steal the phone and check who was calling.”“So your number wasn’t saved on his phone?”“No it was but with an alias. It’s something he did to protect his friends and loved ones. Anyway, she checked the number on her phone and found out it was mine. That was when she decided to call me.”“I don’t get it… she decided to just casually check? Is this how close she is to the syndicate?” Sara looked confused.“I don’t totally get it either but it seems so.”I was feeling less sad and more energized now that I had rested and also gotten a new lead on the situation at hand.“You’ve relayed everything to Rosodov right?”“Yes, but he couldn’t talk much.”“It’s been like that these days,” Sara said before si
Lazar’s POVI was a new man here. Nobody knew who I was or what I came to do. The plan was simple. Go to Australia for a month, get my new shipment and return home just in time to celebrate my children’s birthday.Halfway through the mission, I encountered an unforeseen problem. Someone else had eyes on my package.“Why don’t you just have a word with them?” Rosodov suggested when I told him about the new development on the phone.“Who? You mean The Changers?” I asked him with a scoff.“Yes.”“They are not the type of people you reason with, Rosodov. I have been avoiding doing business with them for a while now for a reason.”“So, what’s the plan? Ignore them? This isn’t your territory. You need to be careful.”“I know I do but I need this shipment. There’s no two ways about it.”“Just be careful.”That was the last time we spoke. That was also the last time I had my phone with me. Somehow, I lost it on the beach. It was so unlike me to do something like that.It didn’t matter, though
Lazar’s POVI arrived home earlier than usual, something I almost never do. Normally, I would bury myself in work until the night swallows the day, but today was different. I had spent all weekend with Miriam and I could see she was still adjusting to the new apartment. I wanted to do something
Miriam’s POV I could not meet his gaze. It felt like I was having a stand off with a lion.He said he was a mere carpenter but he gave off the vibes of a mafia lord no one would want to mess with.“Well…I can't remember any of that.” I lied. I remember it well. How I was going about saying I was
Miriam’s POV My head was banging like crazy. It felt like the whole room was spinning.“Ughhhhh” I groaned into the pillow trying to catch my breath.Every single part of my body aches like I had been hit by a truck. But then I realised I was home. How did I get home?I sat up from the bed and im
Miriam’s POV It’s been almost a week of constant nightmare and awkward interaction with Williams at the office. Also I still haven't heard anything from my supposed husband.“So is your husband back from his trip?” Sara asked as she drove me back to my apartment.“Well not at all. And I haven't h
