LOGINMiriam's POV
Although I was a little bit suspicious of his movements late at night I could not say anything.
It was a contractual marriage anyway, soon I will end it and will be free. I only got married to him in the heat of the moment.
With a deep sigh I walked over to the window and saw him get into a black car. I could not see what brand because of how high up I was and I was not with my glasses so practically I was blind.
But one thing I could definitely see was the array of cars on the street. Who exactly did he work for and why does he need so many escorts?
And thinking about it, I can't remember if I asked him about where he works or what he does for a living.
Although my marriage with him is contractual, we could still get to know each other and maybe I could get him a position at my job.
Speaking of my job, I just knew I had a lot of mail piled up for me to respond to.
“Hey Sara.” I said over the phone as I opened my email.
It's going to take a while to respond to all of them.
“Well, hey stranger. Thought you have finally forgotten me.” She joked and I could not help but smile.
“That's impossible and you know it.”
She laughed at her own end. “So….how is married life treating you? I hope you did not marry a pervert out of pettiness.” She asked her tone, switching from playfulness to seriousness.
“Well he is not a pervert, he seems very respectful and….he is quite hot.” I whispered the last part, hoping she did not hear it.
“Kinda hot? Stop lying, that man is a hunk, he is more than kind of hot, he is insanely hot, sexy and handsome. If he is not a pervert then I will say you got the jackpot. He is way better than that trash can, William.”
I could hear the disgust in her tone at the mention of his name. Sara had never liked William and I should have listened to her when she warned me, but I was stupid and blinded with love.
But not anymore, I refuse to put others before me. From this moment on I will put myself first.
“Well speaking of William, has he signed the contract?” I asked.
“Yes, he submitted it a few days back, but we haven't responded. I suggest we refuse his proposal. We haven't signed it yet so nothing is finalized.”
“Hmmmm get the legal team, tell them to proceed with the contract.”
“What?” Sara gasped from the other end and I could almost imagine her shocked expression.
“Are you freaking crazy? Why would you want to work with a man who betrayed you and was cheating with your step sister?” She asked, her voice filled with disbelief.
But what Sara does not know was, this was all part of my revenge plan.
I had almost risked exposing my identity to give William that job. Now he and Janet think they can steal my hard work and claim it.
They have no idea what I have in store for them.
And the fact that I was so close to telling William about who I was and what I do.
I will never be that foolish again.
“It's all part of my plan Sara, I know what I am doing?”
The line went silent for a while, I thought she had hung up the call.
“So what is this grand plan of yours?” She asked, sounding a little bit skeptical.
“No worries you will see, let's get him comfortable and happy and just when he thinks everything is going well for him I am going to make it all crash down.” I replied, the image of his shocked expression when he realised that he had been playing in my game flashed in my mind and I could not help but feel satisfied. Oh! I can't wait.
“I really do hope you are not thinking of getting back together with that asshole?”
“Never, he is my past but he needs to be taught a lesson. Every single one of them. I am going to make them all pay for humiliating me. I was a fool for so many years but not anymore.” I replied.
“Hmmm ... .I really hope you don't go back on your words because I am really liking this villainess era you have going on.” She teased once again and I smiled.
“As much as I would love to keep talking about your love life and revenge plans, we have business to discuss. We have two currently bidding for the new fragrance, their offers seem good but you will have to go through them of course.” She said,
This new fragrance was something we have been working for for a long time. We needed the right company to collaborate with.
“Send me the documents. I will go through them.” I said “And Sara, I want to ask for a favour”
“Uhmmm as long as I can do it, sure.”
“So… My newly wed husband was a little bit suspicious about my shopping rampage today so I told him about my job.. I panicked.” I said, waiting for her to lose it.
“Oh my God Miriam, what did you do? Did you tell him you are the owner of la amore?”
“No. No. No, I did not but I told him I work there and I was a designer. I need to try and keep up with the lie and I was thinking, won't it be a great revenge comeback if William sees me working in the same company as he is?”
Sara was quiet once again, this was a sign she was thinking.
Although Sara was my friend she is very calculative and that is why I choose her to be the acting CEO of my company. Due to my absence.
“I think it's a good idea, but it's quite risky, I thought you want no one to know about your identity?” She asked, sounding worried.
“And no one will… at least for now. I have been thinking, Sara. I have built such a big company from scratch, you of all people know the amount of hard work and dedication I put into this. Maybe it's about time I introduced myself to the world and stopped hiding behind the scene. I think it's about time I embrace my work and stop trying to hide from it.” I said, feeling a sense of relief.
It is a slow process, I haven't worked in an office setting all my life.
I have always worked for the comfort of my home. Even when I was dating William I had to lie. I worked at a mall, a mall I owned.
I am tired of living in the shadows. This was a new opportunity for me and I plan on taking full advantage of it.
“Well, words can't describe how proud I am for you. I will set something up and you can start tomorrow.” She replied and I could not be happier.
Finally I get to work amongst my employees. This was what I have always dreamed of.
“No more hiding Miriam,” I thought to myself before hanging up the phone and putting off the light.
My phone suddenly brightened up, it was a message from Lazar.
“Sleep tight my sleeping beauty xxx”
My face immediately became hot. I have to say my new husband was not just sexy, insanely hot and handsome, he was incredibly charming.
“Good night xx.” I responded and closed my eyes, succumbing to the darkness.
Lazar’s POVMy children’s tenth birthday made me realize that there was nothing I wouldn’t do for my family. There was no sacrifice too big.“Daddy, this is so amazing! Thank you!” Aiden yelled when he opened the video game I got him.“There’s more where that came from, honey.” I smiled at him.Amelia opened her dollhouse and gasped. She was a real feminine girl. Even at ten, she was still obsessed with dolls and I didn’t discourage her at all. I would always support my children no matter what they did. As long as it wasn’t something that wouldn’t harm them.“Thank you so much.” She gave me a hug and I lifted her up in the air.We posed for pictures and Miriam kept smiling really widely.“You look like the birthday girl,” I whispered in her ear at some point and she giggled.“Mock me all you want but nothing can stop my excitement today.”Our friends were all present and it felt amazing. Too good to be true. Just at that very moment, there was a loud gunshot in the air and almost ever
Miriam’s POV“Lazar, you’re back?” I asked in shock. “When did you arrive?”I was still in shock so it felt completely unreal when he enveloped me in a tight hug. Even though this was exactly what I had been praying for, it seemed unreal seeing it unfold right in front of my eyes.“Yes, I am, baby. I have missed you so much,” he said out loud but in my ears he whispered, “I’m so sorry, babe. I will explain everything to you later.”Without any further hesitation, I grabbed his face and kissed him deeply. The kids yelled and giggled but I ignored them.“Eww, mom and dad! Kissing is so gross!”“Well, I have missed your father so much. Don’t judge me if I want to kiss him.”“You can kiss him but not in front of us.” They said before running off to play with their iPads.“Come on, let’s go upstairs so we can talk privately.”***The next couple of minutes were spent calling our family and friends that knew about his absence to tell them that he was back. They were all relieved and happy t
Miriam’s POVEverything was going normally. The party planner had sent out the invites and started decorating our backyard in preparation for the party tomorrow. The twins had been informed of the new development and they squealed in excitement. I told them to write a wishlist of whatever they wanted for their birthday.“Anything?” They asked simultaneously with huge smiles on their faces.“Yes, anything for the both of you!”“Oh my God! Thank you mummy.” Amelia hugged me and I tried to pick her up but she was just too heavy.“You babies are getting too big for me to carry.”“Aww. Mom! Please don’t call us babies anymore. Our friends are going to be here tomorrow. If you call us babies, they won’t stop teasing us about it.”“You guys are my babies,” I said with emphasis on the word ‘are’. “But since you guys insist, I won’t say anything like that in front of your friends.”“Thank you, Mom.”“Now, go ahead and write your lists before I change my mind,” I teased them and they scampered
Lazar’s POVLilian kept switching up on me and it was starting to get exhausting trying to keep up. One night, I decided it was time to leave. After being unable to call anyone or leave the house for a long time, I was starting to have hallucinations of my family. What if something had happened to them while I was hiding out here? What if the people who wanted the drugs have already traveled down to torture my family? The thought of it alone was what pushed me out of my hiding place despite the high risk attached to it.The last time I went out at night, I had gotten jumped, on top of the excruciating, painful, infected wound on my shoulder. It was going to be even more dangerous this time because I had the package on me. I couldn’t leave it at Lilian’s place so it was my only other option. The journey back to civilization was a stressful one to say the least. Everything hurts. It had been yes, as my body has experienced this amount of pain. I wasn’t getting any younger so it wasn’t
Miriam’s POVI told them everything that happened. About how I got a call from Anita, explaining what was going on to me.“I don’t understand. How did Anita know that you were the one calling?” Serena asked“Apparently, she saw that my number kept calling him over and over so she decided to steal the phone and check who was calling.”“So your number wasn’t saved on his phone?”“No it was but with an alias. It’s something he did to protect his friends and loved ones. Anyway, she checked the number on her phone and found out it was mine. That was when she decided to call me.”“I don’t get it… she decided to just casually check? Is this how close she is to the syndicate?” Sara looked confused.“I don’t totally get it either but it seems so.”I was feeling less sad and more energized now that I had rested and also gotten a new lead on the situation at hand.“You’ve relayed everything to Rosodov right?”“Yes, but he couldn’t talk much.”“It’s been like that these days,” Sara said before si
Lazar’s POVI was a new man here. Nobody knew who I was or what I came to do. The plan was simple. Go to Australia for a month, get my new shipment and return home just in time to celebrate my children’s birthday.Halfway through the mission, I encountered an unforeseen problem. Someone else had eyes on my package.“Why don’t you just have a word with them?” Rosodov suggested when I told him about the new development on the phone.“Who? You mean The Changers?” I asked him with a scoff.“Yes.”“They are not the type of people you reason with, Rosodov. I have been avoiding doing business with them for a while now for a reason.”“So, what’s the plan? Ignore them? This isn’t your territory. You need to be careful.”“I know I do but I need this shipment. There’s no two ways about it.”“Just be careful.”That was the last time we spoke. That was also the last time I had my phone with me. Somehow, I lost it on the beach. It was so unlike me to do something like that.It didn’t matter, though
Lazar’s POV“Where is Delvano?” I yelled out loud to no one in particular.“I’m here, Don.”I turned around to look at him and it was evident that he was guilty. I didn’t give a shit about that right now.“So you knew about the fire?” I barked and he barely flinched.“Yes, I did,” he replied.“Why
Lazar’s POVTaking Miriam home felt like breathing again after nearly drowning. The hospital smell still clung to memory making me feel sick but the warm feeling of her palm on mine made me feel relieved.I kept glancing at her in the car, scared that if I looked away for a second she might disappe
Lazar’s POVI arrived home earlier than usual, something I almost never do. Normally, I would bury myself in work until the night swallows the day, but today was different. I had spent all weekend with Miriam and I could see she was still adjusting to the new apartment. I wanted to do something
Miriam’s POV I could not meet his gaze. It felt like I was having a stand off with a lion.He said he was a mere carpenter but he gave off the vibes of a mafia lord no one would want to mess with.“Well…I can't remember any of that.” I lied. I remember it well. How I was going about saying I was
