تسجيل الدخول"My name is Margaret." The woman finally spoke, still keeping her gaze intently on me.
"Margaret?" I stared skeptically at them. "Where am I?" "Right now you're in a hospital in Vine City." The woman walked closer this time, taking her steps slowly as if she counted them to make sure she stepped on the right spot. "Vine City? How... did I get to Vine city?" I questioned and paused, giving a thought to my questions then laughed bitterly in my mind. Of course, I was sold and didn't have to be told I would be taken far away. But at least, I'd hoped it would be a place I could be able to trace my way back home. However, I didn't even know this City that is called Vine. And now, in a hospital? "I saved you from your sister who sold you for sex slavery two months ago." She explained. Two months? Has it been that long already? How come I slept that long to wake up now? "I'd like to apologize for the little changes you will see on your face and body." She spoke in a calm tone. My face? It reoccurred to me. "What have you done to me?" My eyes shone inquisitively. I knew my feeling was right about myself. About being totally different from who I was. "It's not something that will take your life my dear, trust me. Doing that is the only way we can help each other. The two of us are going to work together." She said. "Work together. What do you mean?" I glared at her, feeling my blood run hot. "What do I mean?" She quizzed, "It's a pity your own sister sold you for sex slavery. But as fate would have it, I bought you before anyone else could. So right now, you should be very thankful to me for saving you from your sister's treachery. Imagine what would have become of you if one stupid man bought you before me." I turned to look at the man beside me and tried to recognize his face, but it wasn't the man who'd bought me from the bar. She was lying. "He's not the man who bought me." I declared disapprovingly. "Yes, I know. I paid the one who did. So consider my help as something you can never get easily in your entire life. Don't worry about how you're going to repay me. It's going to be quite simple." My gaze flickered, unable to put a meaning to what this woman was bluffing about. Unable to understand this strange body I wore. Margaret continued, "Two months ago, my daughter-in-law was involved in an accident almost at the same time I bought you. Until now, she has been in a coma and I'm sure she won't make it alive. The doctor has already declared her time of death. Now that you have my almost dying daughter-in-law's face, once she dies, you will replace her immediately. You're going to act as my son's wife. And don't worry, my son is one of the top billionaires in Vine City. You know what that means? You will be walking side by side with him as his wife. You're going to have your dream life where no one will sell you for slavery." A dry chuckle left my lips, looking at her like someone speaking a strange language. My brows knotted, eyes searching her face as though the words hadn't settled yet. Then I let out another bitter laugh, having pity on myself. "I don't believe you. You'll are a bunch of liars. You stole my dignity. You stole my body, you stole me!" Tears burned down my cheeks. There was no point in believing them. I could not accept a reality where I woke up surrounded by people who had taken advantage of me. "Where is Maya? I'm sure she's the one paying you to do this. Where is she?!" "Your sister Maya? Oh..." Margaret creased her brows as if suddenly realizing someone like that existed. "Other than the simple transaction of the sale and buy which was not performed directly by me, I have no business with your sister and don't care where she is. But I believe she's rotting in hell by now." "What do you mean?" Panic clawed up my throat. Margaret paused, then said, "I'm a straightforward woman who hates beating around the bush. To tell you the truth, I'd ordered someone to get rid of her. So you shouldn't worry about seeing her ever again. She's already paying for what she has done to you. Wicked ones like your sister deserve to go to hell." Chill threaded through my spine. They killed Maya? If they could kill my sister, nothing was safe. What they might do to me can be far worse than I could dare imagine— worse than slavery. They'd already changed my body. And I'm sure, my face too. Only if I can find a mirror and see exactly what I look like. What if they went further? What if they stripped away everything human, turning me into something monstrous? I've heard of people being turned into hybrids with the help of doctors. "No, take me back to where I come from! I don't want any of this. I don't want it here!" "Back to meet the ghost of your sister or the mother who's now blaming you for her daughter's death?" Margaret snorted. "Even though you'd not consented to this before I did what I had to do, I was already running out of time to have waited for you to agree with it at first. If the public learned that my daughter-in-law had an accident and was about to die, then that would be the end of it for my son. Before that happens, someone must replace his dying wife. Someone must replace her before things get to the public." "No! I don't want any of this!" I began kicking and smashing through the sheets. Begging to be released—afraid of dying, afraid of the people around me. "Madam Margaret, what are you going to do now?" For the first time, the doctor spoke. Margaret exhaled. "I'd believed that waking to know that someone had saved her life would make her feel grateful and agree to whatever I ask her to do. I thought she would agree to play the role without hitches." Margaret looked at me the way one looks at bad news. "I wanted to take this the good way, Kane. But now, the only option we have left is to proceed with another plan. I've gone too far to let go. You know how hard it was for me to find someone whom I believe no one will come asking for in the future." Margaret answered. "What are you talking about? What are you going to do to me?" I trembled, searching for an escape, but the woman had already given the doctor a go-ahead nod and the next thing I felt was something piercing into my skin until darkness welcomed me.~Adrian~"Have you even thought for once? They're going to find out. When they get close to her, with their sharp instinct in recognition, they'll find out she's not the true Luna. You can't fool the werewolves." "Then get your mark on her before everyone finds out. You know that's the only way to make her appear as the real Luna. If she bears your mark, no one will think she's not the Luna. That's the only thing left for you to do to prove it, Son.""Mother!""What else should I do?! What else do you expect I'd done? Your wife was dying. I knew she wouldn't make it alive, so I did what I had to do because I don't want to lose you. I don't want you to go to jail. You are all that I have, there's no one else in this world." Mother said between tears. "Listen mother, I am not going to any jail until I find the killer of my wife," I said between gritted teeth, my chest burning, hot tears I held back brewing."And know it that if more problems arise from this, I'm not going to be part o
~Adrian~My shoulders pressed against the wall, a bottle dangling lazily from my fingers. More bottles lined the floor, scattered and toppled. Some with a stubborn inch of whiskey left, some empty reflecting the life I couldn't recognize anymore. The room was dark, the air suffocating. Dust floated lazily in a spiral, light faintly illuminating the dark room from an old bulb that hung loosely on the ceiling. The room smelled of alcohol, of grief lingering in every corner.I tipped the bottle back and swallowed. The liquid sloshed, a hot burn sliding down my throat that did nothing to ease the pain in my heart.I didn't hear the door creak as Mother came rushing into the room. "Adrian," She ran to my side, eyes sweeping over the mess of bottles. "Son, you need to stop locking yourself up in this attic. Stop doing this to yourself." She reached for the one in my hand, gripped it firmly, and pulled it away. "Stay away from me and give that back to me." I slurred, my voice thick and jag
~Odessa~"I… I lost my daughter?" Tears hot and biting brewed at the corners of my eyes, the words breaking as they left my lips."Yes, my dear," Margaret replied.I stared at the photograph in my hands cradling the baby with a tenderness that felt achingly lovely. So adorable baby you'd believe spring itself had chosen her to wear its joy.I couldn't hold it anymore. "I lost my child," The tears broke out, burning cruelly against my cold skin, the ache sharp like a blade mercilessly driven inside my heart. "No, Juliana don't cry. You have grieved the death of your child with your husband and have also moved on. So please, don't even think of letting those tears fall." Margaret persuaded, swiftly brushing the tears away from my eyes, not letting them spill on the heartwarming photo in my hands.I bit hard on my lip, swallowing the ache in my chest. I had forgotten my husband. Forgotten my child. They must have loved me deeply, and I must have loved them just as much. Was it why my h
~Odessa~The room seemed to shrink the moment the door shut behind him. Shutting his dangerous aura along with him as he left. Instinctively I recoiled, my body folding into itself, my knees drawn up to my chest as my arms locked around them, the desperation to disappear from this horrible reality clawing at my chest. What have I done to deserve this kind of harsh treatment from him? Where had I gone wrong?Fear settled deep into my skin, leaving me trembling with tears blurring my vision. The tears continued freely down my cheeks, my mind in chaos trying to understand what was happening around me. But everything felt foreign. Still sobbing, Margaret wrapped her arms around me."Ju–Juliana, are you okay?" She whispered.I forced my gaze up at her gentle face contradicting my devastated one."Come, stand my dear." She said, urging me up. Taking the duvet and dabbing it over my shoulders, I felt the bed soft beneath me as I sat down.Contrary to the man I believed was my husband, my
~Adrian~I know I had not drunk any alcohol this morning to believe I was seeing things.I know it wasn't a hallucination to stand in front of a woman looking exactly like my dead wife.It had not been in a dream that day, it was not in a night to think it was one nightmare that I knew I'd wake up to not seeing its reality. It had been real. Very much real and I'd been the one to personally pull the shroud over her face drained of anything that spoke of life.My wife had died. Gone from me forever and it was barely a week since I buried her. I'd watched the two men with my own eyes pull her corpse in the glass-covered casket down into the seven fit dug grave. This isn't any madness to think that maybe she'd resurrected or will I say escape from the grave to run back to me and call me her husband again. We were not mortal either.I know the pain. The ache, the tears that never cease as I think of her every minute. I know how much I wished these powers I possessed could bring her back t
~Odessa~"Are you sure you can do this?" Margaret paused just as we stood in front of the door.I could feel her reluctance as she pulled at my hands again."Mother, there's nothing to be afraid of. Besides, you can see how strong I am now. So, there should be nothing to worry about. Besides, I'm going to be with my husband not some stranger who might be after my life." I spoke again, feeling my own anxiety getting the best of me. It was as if she was contemplating this moment I'd eagerly waited for a whole week.I took a deep breath, "You know what, Mother? You can go ahead. I want to meet him alone. I want it to be just the two of us."I wanted to share my lost moment with my husband and cry into his arms.I wanted to tell him how much I'd waited to see him and also hear him tell me how much he'd missed me— how scared he was when he thought he would lose me. And I wanted to do all these alone with him, with no eyes restricting me from how passionately I wanted to kiss him on his
