Asia's POV

THREE DAYS AFTER

The kidnappers had given me two weeks.

Two crazy weeks to come up with $30,000 or they’d start sending pieces of my mother.

My sister had borrowed from dangerous people,disappeared,and left me holding the bag like always.

Mom was just the bait.

I dropped onto the couch,hands shaking as I scrolled through job apps again.

Working Six jobs weren’t enough,even selling everything I owned wouldn’t get me close.

The front door opened,George walked in, carrying his camera bag,little Aaron trailing behind him with a sleepy yawn.

My childhood best friend the one who always showed up when things got bad.

His wife had passed two years ago, but he still had that steady, gentle presence that made the world feel less heavy.

“Asia?” George’s eyes widened when he saw me.

 “What the hell happened? You look like you’ve been through war.”I broke.

The whole story spilled out,I told him everything except for what happened between me and Eden in paris.

George listened without interrupting,then pulled me into a hug.

Aaron patted my arm awkwardly.

“We’ll figure this out,”George said firmly.

“You’re not alone.”

Days blurred into a frantic mess.

I added two more jobs,cleaning offices at night,delivering food at dawn.

Still nowhere near $30,000.

The kidnappers texted daily threats with photos of Mom looking terrified.

Time was running out,George helped where he could,picking up extra photography gigs and watching Aaron so I could work.

He even slept on the couch some nights,like old times when we were kids crashing at each other’s places.

Then,on day four, I found it.

An urgent job posting from GED Baby Galaxy,the biggest baby products company in New York.

Temporary personal assistant.

Pay: $2000 a month.

Contract duration: 6 months

Requirements:Only married women with stable family can apply.

I bit my lip so hard.

Desperate time calls for desperate measures.

My hands shook as I stared at the screen.

“George…” I slowly turned to him.“I need you to pretend to be my husband.”

He choked on the coffe he was drinking

“What?”

“Please,Just for the interview only,”

“We'll get fake certificates, Aaron is here, it'll even look more real.”

“Please just this one big thing, for Mom.”I sobbed.

George rubbed his face,his eyes became soft.

“Alright,”he said quietly. “I promised I would do anything for you.”

The next morning we dressed as nicely as we could.

We printed a fake marriage certificate and headed to the sleek glass tower of GED Baby Galaxy.

The waiting room was full of polished couples real married ones with kids, laughing and holding hands,i felt like a fraud.

George slipped his arm around my waist naturally,it made my chest tighten with guilt.

“Mr. and Mrs. Thompson?” the receptionist called.

We stood and followed the lady into a conference room.

Three women sat across the table, all sharp suits and polite smiles.

“Thank you for coming,” one of them said warmly.

 “This role requires a high level of discretion and emotional stability, so we like to get a sense of the couple dynamic.”

Couple dynamic.

I forced a smile.

George answered most of the first questions, steady, calm, believable.

How long have you been married?

“Three years.”

“Is that your child?”

George glanced at Aaron. “Yes.”

I nodded,adding softly,“He just turned five.”

“Wonderful,” another woman said, clearly pleased.

“And you’re comfortable with long hours? Late nights with the CEO’s schedule can be unpredictable.”

“I am,” I said quickly. “I don’t mind.”

I didn't mind.

I needed it.

“Good,” she said, making a note. “The CEO prefers someone grounded, someone family oriented.”

If only she knew.

The door opened behind us.

No knock.

No warning.

Just the quiet click of power shifting in the room.

“And right on cue,”one of the women said, her tone brightening. “Mr. Gregory.”

My spine went rigid.

Slowly,too slowly,i turned.

And there he was.

Eden Gregory.

Tall. Controlled. Devastating in a perfectly cut charcoal suit.

Like Paris had followed me here just to ruin my life.

His eyes swept the room, and then landed on me

Everything inside me stopped.

Recognition hit him instantly.

I saw it.

Sharp,Undeniable.

Then his gaze dropped.

To my hand, the ring.

My fingers twitched, but I forced them still.

Don’t hide it.

Don’t react.

His eyes moved again,

To George’s arm around my waist.

To where I leaned into him.

To Aaron.

And then.

“Mom,” Aaron mumbled,tugging lightly at me.

My heart stuttered.

I didn’t hesitate this time.

Couldn’t.

I brushed his hair back gently.

“Just a minute,baby.”

The air was so thick,followed by silence.

The kind that felt like it could crack something open.

One of the women smiled, completely oblivious.

“Oh, perfect timing Mr Gregory, this is Mr and Mrs Thompson one of our strongest candidates.”

Candidates.

Eden didn’t respond immediately.

He just stood there.

Watching.

Not casually.

Not politely.

But like he was dissecting something.

Piece by piece.

His jaw tightened.

His gaze flicked back to the ring.

Then to me.

And whatever passed through his eyes

It wasn’t confusion.

It wasn’t surprise.

It was something colder.

Something that made my chest tighten.

For a second, I thought he was going to have an outburst,but he didn't.

He turned and walked out.

The door slammed behind him,my body flinched at the sound.

The women exchanged quick, awkward glances before recovering.

“Don’t mind him,” one said with a small laugh. “He can be intriguing sometimes.”

Intriguing,definitely.

George’s hand pressed lightly into my waist.

“You pulse increased,”he whispered.”you'd get the job,don't worry “

“Breathe.” he murmured under his breath.

I nodded.

But my chest was still tight,because that look on Eden's face still lingered in my head.

And I had a feeling this might not be in my favour.

But I'm not running away this time.

  • Fake Fiancée, Real Boss   Chapter 35

    ~~~Asia's POV~~~By the time I got downstairs, George was still there.Which surprised me.Not because he was waiting.Because he looked like he hadn't moved.The lobby bustled around him in the usual afternoon chaos. Employees came and went through the revolving doors. Phones rang behind reception. Security greeted visitors. Yet George stood near one of the large windows overlooking the street, hands shoved into his pockets, staring outside like he'd forgotten where he was.For a moment, I simply watched him.The bouquet was over, at least.Thank God.Small victories.I walked toward him, my heels clicking softly against the polished floor."George."He turned immediately.Something crossed his face.Relief maybe.Gone too quickly for me to be sure."Hey."I stopped beside him.The city stretched beyond the glass behind us, traffic moving steadily through the afternoon while sunlight reflected off nearby buildings.Neither of us spoke right away.The silence wasn't uncomfortable exac
  • Fake Fiancée, Real Boss   Chapter 34
    Eden's POV"Do you think people can care about someone and still make them feel trapped?"The question followed me all the way back to my office.I shut the door behind me and dropped the Henderson file onto my desk.Then stood there.Staring at absolutely nothing.Because somehow, after everything that had happened over the past few weeks, that single question was the one thing I couldn't stop thinking about.I loosened my tie slightly and sank into my chair.First I walk into her office and find her husband standing beside her desk with enough flowers to supply a wedding venue.Then five minutes later she's asking me if someone can care about a person and still make them feel trapped.The timing wasn't exactly subtle.I leaned back slowly.Maybe she was talking about George.Maybe.But another possibility had been irritating me ever since I left her office.What if she meant me?The thought settled heavily in my chest.Because if I was being honest with myself.and I generally hated
  • Fake Fiancée, Real Boss   Chapter 33
    Asia's POVThe second George walked around my desk, I knew I was in trouble.Not actual trouble.The complicated kind.The kind that made guilt settle heavily in your stomach because someone was trying to be kind and all you wanted was space."You don't have to carry everything yourself."His hand rested lightly against my shoulder.Friendly and supportive gesture.I guess?At least it should have felt normal.Instead, my entire body went strangely stiff. I hated that because George wasn't doing anything wrong.Not really.He wasn't grabbing me.Wasn't yelling.Wasn't demanding anything.Yet lately every interaction felt loaded with something neither of us was saying out loud.I opened my mouth, trying to find a response that wouldn't hurt his feelings.Trying to find a way to explain that gratitude and affection weren't the same thing.That just because he'd helped me didn't mean I belonged to him.But before I could say anything the office door opened.Neither of us looked immediate
  • Fake Fiancée, Real Boss   Chapter 32
    Asia's POVTWO DAYS AFTER PARISBy ten o'clock, I had already regretted coming back to work.Not because of the workload.I loved work.Work made sense.Numbers made sense.But somehow, I was still overwhelmed with everything that has happened and what led me to this job in the first place.I stared at the quarterly reports on my screen while accomplishing absolutely nothing.The cursor blinked at me, mocking me.Twenty five emails remained unanswered.Two meetings sat on my calendar.And I'd reread the same paragraph six times without absorbing a single word.Pathetic.A knock sounded against my office door."Come in."The door opened.Sarah, one of the assistants, stepped inside carrying a folder."Good morning." I smiledShe hesitated. “Good morning.”That sounded forced.I wasn't prepared for the next thing Sarah was about to say"There's a man asking to see you."A man?Please don't be"George, he said his name is George."“Your husband.” Her eyes narrowed.I brought my head down
  • Fake Fiancée, Real Boss   Chapter 31
    Asia's POVThe hospital smelled like antiseptic and exhaustion.I hated hospitals.Always had.Maybe because every hallway felt heavy with bad news.Maybe because hope and heartbreak seemed to live side by side inside these walls.Or maybe because right now my mother was sleeping behind one of those doors, and every time I looked at her, I felt guilty for not finding her sooner.The doctors had reassured me three separate times.She was dehydrated.Exhausted.Malnourished.But alive.Very much alive.The word still didn't feel real.I sat beside her bed and watched her sleep, tears burning behind my eyes for what felt like the hundredth time today.A knock sounded softly against the door.I already knew who it was.Eden.My stomach immediately did something ridiculous.I hated that.The door opened slowly.He stepped inside carrying two coffees.How sweet. The man solved every problem like it was a business transaction.I almost smiled.Almost."How is she?" His bass tone sent chills
  • Fake Fiancée, Real Boss   Chapter 30
    Asia's POVBy the time I arrived at the location, my heart felt like it was trying to hammer its way through my ribs. Each beat was a brutal reminder that I was alone.Truly alone. In the belly of whatever nightmare waited for me.The abandoned warehouse crouched near the river like a dying beast, half-swallowed by shadows and flanked by rusted shipping containers that leaned against each other like drunks. Graffiti scarred the corrugated walls in faded, angry slashes. Broken glass glittered faintly under the weak security lights that still somehow worked. This was the kind of place people avoided even in daylight. The kind of place chosen on purpose because screams here would drown in the wind and the rush of the Seine.The sky had already surrendered to night. Heavy, low hanging clouds pressed down on Paris, pregnant with rain that hadn’t yet decided to fall. A cold wind whipped across the empty lot, carrying the metallic tang of rust, river rot, and distant diesel. I pulled my coat
    Asia’s POV“Asia.”Eden’s voice brought me back to my cruel reality.Slowly I turned to look at the message on the screen, Eden still held me up right against him, one of his arm still locked firmly around my waist, because apparently my legs didn't know how to function anymore.And him being this
  • Fake Fiancée, Real Boss   Chapter 28
    Asia’s POV‘Bring him and we kill your mother.’The words burned into my skull so violently my knees almost gave out.For a second, the site disappeared.No rain.No Paris.No Eden standing in front of me.Just those words replaying over and over in my head like a death sentence.My mother, they wa
  • Fake Fiancée, Real Boss   Chapter 27
    Eden’s POVThe moment Asia saw the photo, her entire body went rigid beside me.She didn't look shocked anymore, it had become normal to her, something that was part of her, she had gone numb to everything, and it made the anger in me intensify.The image filled the screen between us.Her mother ti
  • Fake Fiancée, Real Boss   Chapter 25
    I woke up to darkness and panic.For one disoriented second, I forgot where I was.Then Paris came back slowly.The hotel suite.The rain. Eden.The messages. My mother.The weight slammed back into my chest so violently it stole the remaining sleep from my body instantly.I sat up too fast, breat
