Shay told herself it was curiosity that made her walk behind Ivan Belov. Strategic curiosity.

If he wanted to taunt her or to start some kind of psychological game, Shay needed to know what kind of opponent she was dealing with.

That was reasonable, right?

The vampire walked without looking back, hands tucked casually into the pockets of his jacket, posture loose and unhurried.

Shay followed in silence as Belov walked to one of the side paths that curved behind the main building. The landscaping shifted gradually from manicured garden to a narrow path leading to tall trees. It was far enough from the main courtyard that voices became faint. Far enough that the cameras were less obvious, though Shay knew better than to assume they were gone.

Ivan walked into the woods, then stopped beside a very old stone fountain. Without turning around, he pulled a cigarette from his coat pocket and lit it. The first inhale was slow and controlled. Only then did he turn to look at Shay.

"Why did you follow me?"

Shay blinked, completely confused by the question, "Uh... because you motioned me to."

The corner of Belov's mouth twitched faintly, something close to approval flickering there before it disappeared.

"Okay," he responded. Nothing else.

This place felt isolated, as if they were miles away from anyone in the world. The air was cooler here, shaded by the tall trees. And Shay could feel the temperature difference radiating from the vampire's body, even from several feet away.

After a few more seconds of Belov smoking in silence, Shay started feeling like an idiot for coming here. He was completely ignoring her.

"I’m so intrigued by you," Belov finally admitted. Shay stopped wanting to leave then.

She wanted to sway closer to the guy, but she locked in her body to keep it still. Controlled. Belov noticed it and decided to be the one to get closer this time. He took a couple of steps forward, and then he had to lean lower to reach her until they were almost nose to nose.

Belov was about seven inches taller than her. And a lot bigger.

"Are you intrigued by me?" Belov asked in a whisper, his eyes roaming across Shay's face until they settled on her eyes.

"A little," Shay responded in a mumble. For the first time in probably her whole life, maintaining eye-contact felt difficult, especially when Belov finally touched her.

His fingertips touched just under her chest… then he gently pushed her back.

She didn't know what was happening, but she allowed Belov to lead her until her back hit a tree trunk. Shay swallowed in nerves and willed her instincts down. The ones that were yelling at her to stop this madness.

She was acting like... prey. She was allowing herself to become prey. Everyone in her pack would be enraged and disgusted if they knew this was happening with a vampire.

But Shay was a flawed individual. So, instead of running or fighting for dominance, she looked up and found Belov's gaze again.

Waiting for his next move and wishing it was a fun one.

"Do you even know what you're asking for with those eyes, Hart?" he growled in a low tone. Dangerous. Especially when he lifted his hand and grabbed Shay's jaw to move her face up. His fingers were cold.

"No, I really don't," Shay admitted, in complete honesty. She was acting by instinct—not her wolf instinct, definitely—but some kind of instinct.

Probably horny instinct. Needy-virgin instinct, probably.

Belov took a deep, aggravated breath and let go of her face, then took a few steps back again, looking annoyed.

Shay wanted to ask him to come back and hold her face again, but that would be insane.

"Go away," Belov ordered, his voice colder than his fingers had been, then he threw his consumed cigarette away. He reached to get another one, "Go join your dog friends, Hart. You shouldn't have come here."

"But you motioned for me," Shay repeated, making the vampire roll his eyes at her in even clearer annoyance,"Why are you pissed all of a sudden? You're the one—"

"Oh my god, you are so annoying," Belov snapped, "You have no business being around me. Go away. Shoo, dog! Shoo!"

Shay's mouth fell open in offense.

"What did I do?" she demanded, clenching her fists with frustration. She hated doing things wrong, "I was just following you."

"You are a fucking newborn baby," Belov said, angrily, "A dumb baby. You don’t know anything about life. Or men, apparently. You give me sex eyes and don't even know it. You put me and yourself in danger and don't even know it."

"Wha—sex eyes!?" Shay repeated in mortification, shaking her head and taking a step back. "No, I didn't."

"Go away, girl, you're boring me," Belov muttered, "Next time, just listen to your friend and don't let me take you anywhere alone. You don't even know all the things I could d—whatever, just leave."

Shay didn't want to leave.

She was... intrigued, like Belov said. Now more than before.

Because this was the first time a man had expressed some sort of attraction for her back. Even if it was a tiny amount. And she knew that would never happen with another werewolf, absolutely never.

But maybe vampires were different. He was not able to feel her Alpha energy, so he didn’t feel threatened.

"You really need to fucking leave now," Ivan growled out, but his voice came out deeper than before, his Russian accent more marked and... his eyes turned darker.

His fangs started growing, just like when he was drinking blood earlier.

That's when Shay's mind started clearing and she finally came to her senses. She was being preyed upon by a vampire.

Belov was not just a hot man, he was a fucking creature who craved blood. And when those darkened eyes moved down to Shay's neck, her wolf instinct took over.

Shay stopped backing down then. Her body locked in, her hands already tingling with the need to shift and a growl began on her chest. She was ready to fight.

"I hate wolves," Belov spat out, and before Shay could do anything else, he ran away.

It was so fast, for a second Shay thought he had simply disappeared, until she saw a blurred figure running deeper into the woods.

What the fuck had happened? Shay didn't understand

She expected to see the same instructors as yesterday, but the moment Shay and her disappointed friends walked into the courtyard, she saw something far worse. Her stomach dropped. "Told you," Adrian muttered, shaking his head and clasping her shoulder from behind, "I'm going to miss you. You saved my number, right? We're not that far away from each other... however, if you leave, I might actually have a chance to win this thing..." "Not really, I'm still better than you," Helene scoffed, then held onto Shay's arm, "I'm going to miss you too." "I'll miss you two as well. Very much," Shay admitted and sighed in absolute resignation, holding onto her friends as she stepped closer to the five vamps. Her four fellow novices... and Sera. She was there to give her the boot in the ass in front of everyone. Although, maybe she could argue her case? Shay's mother would definitely want her to. She would want her to fight them with facts. Sera never told her specifically that sex with a v

"I…" She swallowed, forcing herself to be courageous, whatever the response might be. "Something did happen last night. Ivan went to my bedroom. And I... let him in." Both of them snapped upright. Helene's eyes narrowed to slits. Adrian's jaw dropped. "What?!" Helene hissed, grabbing Shay's forearm like she could squeeze sense into her. "Shay, why would you do that?" "What the actual fuck?" Adrian whispered in shock, "Shay, what? Did he hurt you?" "No, of course not. He's... he's not that bad," Shay started, but her voice wavered, and she didn't know how to explain any of it. She had never planned to be this honest. Ever. "Oh, god, he brainwashed you," Adrian exclaimed in horror, lifting his hands to grab his hair in distress. Shay shook her head, still trying to come up with the right words, "Of course he did. He brainwashed you to make you his... blood slave or whatever they call it. What else could he possibly want?" "He didn't brainwash me, Adrian, I promise. Let me ta

Shay stayed on her bed for a long time after the door closed behind Belov. She didn't move for a while. She just sat there, legs slightly apart, hands hanging loosely at her sides, staring at the ceiling like it might offer her some kind of comfort. Her heart still hadn't settled from everything they did together, all the firsts that Shay willingly gave Ivan. The lingering cold ghost of his hands on her skin made it impossible to calm down. Her entire body felt like it had been rewired, nerves still buzzing where Ivan had been. On her chest, on her throat, on her lips... it had been so perfect. And now that it was over so abruptly, Shay couldn't find a way to deal with it. Ivan's last words were echoing inside her mind. They made sense, they were even sweet, but they were final. Ivan wanted her, and yet he would do his best to stay away. She almost wished Ivan didn't want her at all, if that meant Shay would get to try even more things, everything she still hadn't experien

  • Fated To The Vampire   Twenty-three

Ivan had seen a lot of things in his life, more than Shay could ever imagine. He had lived through centuries of casual sex, mindless pleasure, fleeting attachments, and a lot of pretty faces that were only interesting for a night or two. Nothing ever stuck. Nobody stayed in his mind for too long. But watching Shay lying there… cheeks flushed, lips swollen, chest still rising sharply from overstimulation… something inside Ivan twisted sharply, almost painfully. She looked beautiful like this. Destroyed and soft and pliant, because of him. Nothing had ever tested his self-control quite like this girl. Not even when he was a newborn vamp, trying to stop himself from turning every single person he came across, willing or not, into his source. To be honest, Shay made him feel like that again. Like an impulsive, careless child. So, Ivan drank the boring blood from the packet slowly, trying to pretend he wasn't unraveling. Shay was too busy trying to breathe again to notice how hard

"Well, you could be my last treat too. First and last," Shay responded, smiling just a little bit in preparation, "Because I will be reaching Enlightenment this year." "That's not going to happen," Ivan rolled his eyes with a chuckle, "You will definitely take other lovers at some point, you're too much of a horny puppy not to. You're also not reaching Enlightenment yet, not if I'm here. And... if you want the advice of an old soul, you shouldn't even try, at least not for another twenty years or so. You should go back to your pack and enjoy a messy life for a bit before you go to Luxe City. That is where old souls go once there's nothing else to do. You still have a whole life ahead of you, Shay. Don't throw it away for perfection, you don't even need it yet." Shay's mind didn't even know where to focus. For a second, she felt indignant at being called a horny puppy, but then her face started feeling warm about it... and then Ivan's sincere advice tugged something inside her c

"Now…" Ivan continued, his fingers sliding through Shay's hair, gathering a handful at the back, "Pull my foreskin back and lick my head, all around it." Shay rushed to do that. She hummed with delight as her tongue swirled around Ivan's cock, tasting a tiny drop of want. It was good, but Shay wanted more. She wanted all of it in her mouth. So she went for it, trying to take him deeper, but Ivan tightened his grip in her hair just enough to make her still. "Slower. Take your time to get used to it," he said, softly correcting her, "Don't rush or you'll just choke again. Take some of it, then retract a little… tease me through it, Hart.” Hm, that was good advice. It sounded really hot, too. Shay took as much of his dick as she could, indulging herself for a second… then retracted to swirl her tongue around the head again, with her eyes firmly on Ivan's. His approval was immediate, a low satisfied hum in his chest. "That's it, puppy,” Ivan whispered, "Much better." "Is t

"Well, now you're just making it sound awesome," Shay murmured, kind of bummed she wouldn't get to have it. Ivan moved his eyes away from her, exhaled hard and placed his hands on his hips, as if he needed a break, "So... this is it, then? You really don't want to do anything with me?" Ivan’s eyes

She wanted to go after him and ask more questions. She hated how confused Ivan made her every time he opened his mouth. Everything about him was a big confusing question mark. Because, why would he coach his opponent, possibly the strongest one in here? Shay was being realistic when she said th
