Chapter 2

Author: Cocojam
I pressed the pinned number at the top of my contacts. It rang exactly once before being answered.

"Chloe? What's wrong?"

My oldest brother Wyatt's deep voice came through the speaker. It carried a gentleness the rest of the world never got to hear.

I opened my mouth, a sob catching in my throat. "Wyatt, I..."

Crack.

A sickening sound of bones snapping exploded through the receiver.

It was immediately followed by a chorus of agonized wolf howls and the wet sound of flesh tearing.

A frantic voice screamed in the background: "Alpha! Massive rogue uprising at the southern border! We need to suppress them now!"

The blood in my veins turned to ice.

My brothers were in the middle of a life-or-death territorial war!

If I provoked this powerful elite family right now and dragged the Council into this, my brothers would be attacked from both sides. They'd be destroyed.

"Chloe? What's happening over there?!" Wyatt's voice went instantly rigid. He radiated pure Alpha command.

"Nothing! I... I pocket-dialed!"

I pinched my thigh hard to stop myself from crying, and hit end.

The hallway was dead silent.

Then, the Dean burst into mocking laughter.

"Pocket-dialed? More like your stray-dog family doesn't give a damn if you live or die!"

He stepped closer, stripping away my lie. "A stray is a stray. Hearing an elite's name probably made them piss themselves!"

Richard stepped up.

"Listen to me, you lowborn trash," he hissed, his voice cold as a snake. "Crushing your stray family is as easy as stepping on bugs."

He grabbed a fistful of my hair, forcing me to look up.

"You want to keep your Council qualifications? Fine."

"Tomorrow at the Assembly! You will stand in front of the whole school, bare your neck, and get on your knees for my daughter!"

Bare my neck.

Exposing the throat to an enemy. In the werewolf world, it was the ultimate, most degrading act of total submission.

The humiliation burned through my chest like acid.

But for my chance at the Council. For my brothers' pack.

I swallowed my tears and bit my lip until it bled.

"Fine... I'll do it."

Late that night.

I pulled my oversized hoodie down over my face and dragged my exhausted body back to a rundown apartment in the outer city.

This was the decoy apartment my brothers rented to sell my "average Omega" cover story.

I pushed the door open. Smoke was pouring out of a cheap oven.

My second brother, Hunter, and my fourth brother, Jax, were frantically trying to save a burnt pizza in the tiny kitchen.

Their t-shirts still carried the faint smell of ash and fresh blood.

"Dammit, this stupid machine is harder to break than a rogue's neck," Jax cursed softly.

Hunter was holding a phone between his ear and shoulder. His voice was cold and bloodthirsty. "Tell the warriors to slaughter the rebels. No survivors. Burn their camps to the ground, and make it quick."

My heart broke.

They were out there shedding blood to protect us, and coming home just to cook for me.

I ran over and threw my arms around Hunter's waist. My tears broke loose, soaking into his apron.

"Hunter... Jax... please be careful out there, okay?" I sobbed, holding onto them for dear life. "I promise I'll get that Council seat! Once I do, I'll be the one protecting you!"

The two top-tier Alphas froze instantly.

The spatula in Jax's hand hit the floor with a loud clang.

Hunter hung up his phone immediately. He frantically tried to wipe my tears. "Chloe, what's wrong? Who touched you?"

Bang.

The rusty metal door was kicked open.

Wyatt strode in, bringing the biting winter cold with him.

He barely took one step into the hallway before he stopped dead in his tracks.

His casual expression turned lethally dangerous in a split second. The dark gold glow of an apex predator ignited in his eyes.

His sharp senses had caught it. The faintest trace of my blood buried deep beneath my heavy scent blockers.

Moving almost like a blur, his massive frame was suddenly towering over me.

He ripped my hood back!

The nasty red welt and scabbed claw marks on my face were fully exposed under the harsh light.

"Who did this?"

The temperature in the room dropped below freezing.

I shook in terror. I quickly covered my face, forcing a pathetic smile.

"N-nothing... I just scratched myself while cleaning..."

Seeing the murderous, dark expressions on Hunter and Jax's faces, I hardened my resolve.

Even if I had to suffer hell tomorrow, I couldn't tell them the truth. I wouldn't let them lose their pack over me.

Wyatt didn't say a word.

He stood over me like a mountain. His long, cold fingers slowly traced the back of my neck.

Those dark gold Alpha eyes locked onto mine. They carried an absolute, unquestionable authority.

"You better not be lying to me, Chloe."

My heart shuddered. I looked away.

I made up my mind. No more trouble for them.

I just had to survive until I got the Council seat. Then everything would be okay.

Five years later. I had mastered my Core Seat on the Council with flying colors. I officially expanded the Crescent Pack's charity and shelter network across the entire alliance, becoming the most respected, powerful Omega in the North. And it was at the gala celebrating my rise to the pinnacle of power... that I met him. His name was Jasper. The strongest Alpha King in the alliance, the Supreme Magistrate who usually ruled from the shadows. Dressed in an impeccably tailored black suit, he walked through the glittering ballroom, straight toward me. The moment our eyes met across the room... Boom. The Mate Bond that had been dormant for over twenty years violently snapped into place! He is my Mate. His dominant cedarwood scent hit me like a massive wave, instantly wrapping around me. He stepped right up to me, looked down, and brushed his warm, calloused fingers against the burning skin of my nape. His voice was devastatingly husky. "Caught you, my Luna." That night, the r

On the day of the Supreme Council's Final Trials, my five brothers wore their most intimidating High Alpha battle gear. A convoy of heavy armored vehicles and elite wolves escorted me from our estate all the way to the Grand Arena. Pack historians and press rushed over, shoving cameras in Wyatt's face. Wyatt looked completely unbothered. "I'm just dropping my sister off for a test." The reporters looked at the elite wolves whose teeth were literally still dripping blood, and wisely stayed quiet. The arena was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. During the defense and survival tests, I showed a level of resilience and tactical genius rarely seen in an Omega. The final assessment was an essay: What Makes a True Pack Leader. My mind flashed to my five brothers—fierce, elegant, wild, and unstoppable. I spoke about the mutual salvation between an abandoned infant and apex predators. I spoke about a ten-year struggle from the darkness into the light. I talked about how they paved a

I quickly pulled up the academy's hallway security footage and paused it the moment the instructor turned around. "Look at the exact angle he twists his wrist. It perfectly matches the way that leader just drew his blade." Blake instantly tapped into the intel network via the mind-link. Seconds later, it was a match. "Blood Moon spies! They infiltrated the academy a month ago!" Wyatt looked at me. His eyes were complex—a mix of lingering fear, awe, and an overwhelming sense of pride. "Sister. You're more of a Queen than we ever imagined." Right then, the woods outside the estate erupted in howls and the clash of steel! The battle had begun. But the Crescent Pack was ready. On the monitors, Hunter's Magistrate Guards formed the first line of defense, their blades flashing like lightning. Connor's strike team flanked them, their movements brutal and merciless. Further out, Jax's black-market mercenaries completely cut off their escape route. I sat in the cold chair of the contro

Three days later, I pulled up to the academy gates in that black armored SUV. The world was so quiet you could only hear the wind. Every student and teacher's eyes were glued to me. The newly appointed Dean jogged over and personally opened my door, a flattering smile plastered on his face. "Princess Chloe, the academy was blind before. We are so sorry for the grievances you suffered..." Wearing a ridiculously expensive tactical trench coat, I gave him a polite nod. "Dean. I just want to study for the Council Trials in peace." With that, I walked straight into the building. My desk had been swapped for a brand-new one, completely spotless. The rich kids who used to sneer at me now crowded around, awkwardly trying to get on my good side, offering high-tier healing potions and asking about tactics. I sat down calmly, pulled out my heavy combat strategy books, and buried myself in knowledge. At noon, while I was deep into a complex defense deployment map, a figure appeared at the

Richard and Madison stayed frozen on their knees, not even daring to look up. The stares from hundreds of elite warriors pinned them down. Richard's legs were so weak he was practically sprawled on the floor. Madison was pale with terror. Thud. Without any hesitation, she faced me. She crawled toward me and pressed her forehead flat against the cold stone, exposing her neck completely. She was shaking uncontrollably. She looked pathetic. "Stop," I said suddenly. Everyone in the hall looked at me. Madison froze and looked up in horror, like prey waiting for her throat to be ripped out. I walked up to her and slowly squatted down to her eye level. "Do you know why I held back and didn't fight you in the locker room that day?" She shook her head in terror, her lips trembling too much to speak. I looked at her calmly and said every word clearly. "Because you said I was just a lowly commoner. I worked my ass off to pass the Council Trials and earn military merit so I could op

At that moment, Richard's face was whiter than a corpse in the tundra. The Dean's legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the ground. Wyatt shielded me with his broad hand, blocking all the prying, terrified stares. My brothers didn't say another word. They surrounded me and led me through the dead-silent crowd. I was ushered into the largest, most luxurious armored SUV. Connor and Blake were already inside. As the truck started up smoothly, I heard Connor speaking into an encrypted earpiece, his tone ice-cold. "Yeah. Take over all Silver Vein resources. Don't let him leave with a single Moonstone." Blake had his eyes closed, issuing crystal-clear orders through the pack mind-link. "That mine has a toxin leak? Great. Leak it to the whole network. Let them get skinned alive by the press. The court is handled. The Dean is stripped of his title permanently. Life exile." Listening to them casually command the Council and tear apart empires, I finally couldn't hold back. My voice shoo
