Chapter 2

Author: Mount Sage
I ran four red lights and finally managed to get Olivia to the emergency room at the nearest hospital.

"Doctor! Doctor, please save my wife!"

Several nurses rushed out with a stretcher, their faces paling at once when they saw the state that Olicia was in.

"She's got a major hemorrhage! Quick! Get the gynae! Get the head gynae!"

Olivia was wheeled straight into the emergency room, and the red light outside the door instantly turned red.

My legs went weak and turned into jelly as I collapsed to my knees outside in the hallway. Less than a minute later, a nurse ran up to me with a surgery consent form.

"Hurry up and sign this! The patient has placental abruption and severe hemorrhage, and both her and her baby's lives are in danger! We must begin the surgery right away!"

I trembled as I signed my name.

I sank to my knees before the emergency door, praying hard for the safety of both Olivia and my child. I would willingly give up my life for their safety.

Just then, my phone vibrated incessantly in my pocket. I took it out, looked at the screen, and saw that I had dozens of missed calls from my friends and relatives. The call log indicated that I had more than "99+ missed calls".

I tapped into the family group chat, where a video was being widely circulated online.

It was a screen recording of Billy's live stream at the travel center, and the video had been maliciously edited to remove my explanation, leaving behind only the scenes of me crawling out from under the car, Billy shouting "Thief!" at me, and my car later ramming through the barricades to "escape".

The comments under the video were vicious.

"What an arrogant thief! I bet this isn't his first rodeo. He rammed through the barricade in a stolen car because he was guilty!"

"That pregnant woman must be part of his syndicate too! They're just preying on other people's sympathy!"

"Dox his entire family and post them online! They must all be punished until they can no longer hold their heads up in society!"

There was a long string of text accompanying the video. It exposed my full name, my phone number, my social security number, and even the address of my auto repair shop.

Even the hospital where Olivia had been going for her prenatal checkups was all exposed online.

A friend asked me what happened. However, before I could even reply, the doors to the emergency room opened, and a nurse rushed out.

"Are you Ms. Olivia White's family member? The patient's blood pressure has plummeted! One of the nurses was gossiping earlier, saying that a car thief's wife had come in with severe bleeding and trauma, and the patient overheard her.

"She suddenly became agitated, and her condition is extremely dangerous!"

I immediately jumped to my feet, my vision blurring and turning black.

Just then, there was a loud commotion coming from the other end of the hallway. Three oddly dressed men and women with long selfie sticks walked over. The leader of the group spat as he walked up to us, pointing the camera at me.

"Guys! We've all made it to the hospital. We're going to expose that fake pregnant woman's true colors and see if she was just stuffing a pillow or a blood bag under her clothes after all!"

They shouted in the hallway, completely disregarding the fact that they were currently in a hospital. They began shoving every ward door open, peering into each ward to find me.

As I read the hospital poster on the wall that encouraged people to donate blood to save the lives of others, I suddenly felt a murderous intent washing over me.

The light in the emergency room finally went out, and the doctor wheeled Olivia out, her face pale and eyes tightly shut.

The leader of the livestreaming group immediately caught sight of us and rushed up to us with their cameras, shoving them in Olivia's pale face.

"See this? The bitch who pretended to be pregnant is now pretending to be in a dead faint! Ha! Who does she think she's fooling?"

I didn't waste another breath and grabbed him by the collar, yanking him off right away. I slapped him hard on the cheek and grabbed his phone before flinging it onto the ground, where the screen immediately shattered.

His two other strong accomplices saw what was happening and rushed up to me with their fists raised. I lifted my leg and kicked one of them straight in the stomach, sending him flying more than five feet away before he fell against a hospital bench.

Then I picked up the selfie stick off the ground and snapped it in two, waving it in the live streamer's face.

"If you dare to take another step toward me, I will kill you even if it means I have to spend the rest of my life in jail!"

It was a smile I hadn't seen in a long time, ever since that harrowing experience where she narrowly escaped death. Our family of three was finally reunited.Just as we were about to embrace and celebrate our victory, my phone screen suddenly lit up ominously. It was from an overseas number, and it had sent me a clear photo portrait of me, Olivia, and my son in the incubator.Written bene

I kept silent and coldly watched Billy's wife throw a tantrum on the ground. Then, I pulled out a megaphone from my bag—which I'd prepared beforehand—and blared her sly, calculating voice from a recording of her in her group chat with Billy and the others."As for the 20,000 dollars we got this round, we'll split it as per usual. We get 70%, and you guys get 30%. If that stupid mechanic dares to call the police on us, we'll hire someone to chop all his limbs off and rape his pregnant wife to death. We'll see if he dares to call the police on us again next time!"The passers-by who had been enjoying the spectacle earlier went completely berserk after hearing the recording."What? You were planning to rape a pregnant woman? What the fucking hell?" someone yelled at her."You're a fucking monster!"Someone threw a rotten tomato at Billy's wife, hitting her squarely on the head. She was continuously pelted with rotten eggs and other stinky, rotting food items, including a few water bo

At 8:00 am that day, official newspapers and public news accounts on the internet simultaneously published a bombshell news story. The headline was extremely eye-catching."The Demise of a Professional Criminal: Unveiling the Records of a Highway Road Scam Syndicate."The article didn't just detail evidence of their funding chain. Most importantly, it released the complete HD surveillance footage I had retrieved from the travel service area the other day.It was completely unedited and clearly captured Billy and his accomplices furtively pouring an entire bottle of mineral water under his van. And to make the leak more realistic, Billy even crawled under the car and loosened the brake caliper hose on the rear wheel with a wrench. Most absurdly, after loosening the hose, he wiped his hands haphazardly on his clothes and forgot to tighten the screws once again. This was what directly led to the subsequent accident on the mountain road later on that severed his right leg. This surve

One of the men in black already had his hand on the ICU door knob, and my mind went blank in that instant.Without thinking, I grabbed the fire extinguisher from the fire cabinet in the corner and brought it down on the man's head hard. There was a loud bang, and the man collapsed to the ground before he could even make a sound. The fire extinguisher burst open, and acrid dry powder sprayed out of the body, completely filling the hallway. The other two invaders began coughing and exclaiming loudly in panic. I held my breath and ran into the powdery, choking dust, grabbing another man by his hair and slamming his head hard against the wall multiple times, letting out gut-wrenching thuds. These were just online keyboard warriors who only know how to run their mouths online. They were simply no match for someone like me, who often wielded heavy machinery and equipment all year-round.In less than a minute, all three invaders were beaten to a pulp, kneeling on the ground and begging

I stepped back and pulled out my phone. Then, I turned on the video mode on my camera and pointed the lens at Billy's horrified, bleeding face.I smiled slightly at the camera."I think you mistook me for someone else, sir. I'm just a thief whom you claimed stole a catalytic converter from you," I said, deliberately raising my voice to remind him."I already threw the wrench I always carried around with me into the river, just to prove my innocence. I don't have any tools on me anymore. How are you expecting me to save you?"The rest of Billy's gang were also crying and screaming for help in the van, struggling hard as they tried to crawl out.Billy was so anxious that he groveled at my feet, his tears and snot covering his face in a huge mess."I'm sorry! I was wrong! I was blind! I will refund you the 20,000 dollars! I will double the amount! No, I'll return ten times the amount to you!"I was blind for not recognizing you! I was blinded by my greed! The lead live streamer held a hand to his nose and pointed a finger at me."You've got the nerve! Just you wait!"The group exchanged glances and scrambled out of the hallway, still clutching their stomachs. The doctor quickly wheeled Olivia to a ward. Fortunately, she barely survived the ordeal, but she was still unconscious. Our son suffered from severe oxygen deprivation while being born, and he was immediately rushed to the NICU.I sat down on the hospital bench, feeling unusually calm.I hired two top-notch guards at an astronomical price and ordered them to guard the door to Olivia's ward. Nobody was allowed to approach. I also told them that I would be responsible for any deaths or injuries they inflicted on others while guarding Olivia. After arranging for that, I turned around and walked out of the hospital to call Andy Holt, my apprentice at my auto repair workshop. As soon as the call connected, I heard his suppressed sobs on the phone."Jake! The situation is terri
