LOGINScarlet stood by the side, watching as her family cried over her corpse. She stared at her body, which was about to be cremated, and her heart clenched.
She had been dead for two weeks, and in those two weeks, she had been forced to watch her family cry daily over her, her best friend breaking down every time she saw anything related to her, and even the people she rarely communicated with were all shedding tears when they heard about her death.
She had been feeling conflicted ever since then. Her mind wouldn't stop imagining scenarios of change. What if she hadn't died? What if she had fought with her parents when it all happened, if she had run away from home, if she had tried to be stronger... What if, what if, countless what ifs had been running through her mind, but it only annoyed her even more.
She hated to see her family cry over her. She hated the fact that she was the source of their sorrow when everything she ever wanted was to put a smile on their faces despite everything she'd gone through. She felt saddened when she watched her father faint and was unable to stop crying when he heard about her death...
This was the family she hated so much but loved just as much.
The same family that ruined her___, yet she loved so much.
"Hey, Scarlet!"
A round, fluffy creature nudged Scarlet, scaring her out of her thoughts. "Are you okay?" The creature asked.
Scarlet lowered her eyes to see the fluffy creature talking to her, and for a moment, she thought she was hallucinating. She stretched forth her hand and gently touched the creature only to rush back in fear. "What, what are you?" She stuttered, her eyes wide open.
The fluffy ball stared at Scarlet and rolled its eyes. "You look like you've just seen a ghost when you're a ghost yourself." It hissed. "Call me Fate Ball. I'm here for you." Fate Ball introduced itself.
Scarlet stared at the fluffy ball for a very long time without saying a word. Surprisingly, her mind was calm, and her earlier fear was nowhere to be found, but she just couldn't find a reason to converse with a strange creature. She returned to stand beside her younger brother, who had red eyes from crying, totally ignoring the fluffy ball.
Fate Ball rolled toward her in the air and watched with her, not saying a word for a moment. "Scarlet,'" it called.
Scarlet turned her head to look at it, not saying anything, but it was obvious she was listening. "Do you want to see something?" It asked.
Scarlet returned her gaze to her body, her arms wrapped around her chest as she ignored the Fate Ball.
"There's something you would like to see. It's my gift to you." Said the Fate Ball.
Scarlet ignored it.
"Really? Then, come see." It got excited.
Scarlet's heart skipped a beat, and she finally turned to look at the rolling ball again. "I'm not..." But she wasn't able to finish her sentence when she was pulled into a void.
Opening her eyes again, Scarlet realized her environment had changed. She looked around, perceiving the dusty smell of the new place while taking in the desolate aura that surrounded the place...
"Scarlet!" Fluffy ball shouted.
Scarlet calmly looked around, inwardly wondering why Fateball had brought her to this sort of place, but her wandering eyes soon fell on a figure at the center of the abandoned-like room. "Isn't that Carlos?" She asked with disbelief.
Fateball rolled over to the figure's side and nudged him, but the person remained sitting without batting an eye. "That's him." It replied.
Scarlet frowned, shaking her head. "He used to be very happy..." She trailed off.
She used to be envious of him. She used to wonder how someone could smile so much, laugh so much, and radiate so much joy. So why?
"What happened to him?" She couldn't help but ask the only 'person' that could hear her at the moment. "Why is he so haggard? Why, why does he look so lifeless? Why... what's that thing he's holding?" She had a bad feeling in her heart.
Fateball stared at Carlos, who had pills clenched in one hand, water in the other as his soulless eyes looked into space. He seemed to be deep in thought, but he also looked like he was barely holding on. Fateball sighed heavily. "He's like this because of you." It suddenly said.
Scarlet's brows twitched. "What do you mean?"
"He became like this after Silvesta, your best friend gave him your diary after your death. He felt bitter that he couldn't be there for you when you needed someone the most."
"Why..." Scarlet was perplexed. Why would someone do so much for her? Her parents didn't even break this much because of her death...
"Why?" Fateball seemed to have heard a crude joke. "He's in love!" It shouted. "It was love at first sight for him."
Scarlet slumped on the ground, the word 'love' triggering something within her. She gripped her collar so tight she felt choked and she let out a scream. "Why? I wasn't worth it. He shouldn't have gone this far for me..." She shook her head. "No one ever loved me. My parents never did. My siblings never did... none of my friends ever saw me as someone significant. I don't even know him... He wasn't anyone important to me. So why?!" She screamed with a mixture of anger, hatred, and sadness.
She lowered her eyes, unable to keep looking at the shining figure that used to brighten her world. This was her idol, the only person she ever looked up to in her life. She was a little fan of his. A smile from him could keep her going for days--- So, how did it turn out this way?
"You can help him." Fateball's crispy voice resounded in Scarlet's ears. "Do you want to?" It asked.
Scarlet raised her head. Her red eyes mirror the fluffy ball rolling around her, and she nods her head. "I will do anything to save him." This was her responsibility.
Fateball nodded. "Then, come with me." It rolled on Scarlet's head, and the next moment, she felt like the world was spinning.
DING!
"Welcome to the first mission world!"
"Wait--- What?!"
Scarlet smiled. "No, father. I think it's time for me to get married." Scarlet's hesitation was no less than her father's. More than romantic relationships, she preferred the familial love from parents even more. She was love-deprived. She knew how much she sought it and how much she lost trying to gain it in her real world. She really didn't want to leave the king and queen so soon. But Scarlet knew all these weren't real. The only real thing was Carlos, who was waiting for her in the real world. Scarlet was scared... scared that her greediness might cost her Carlos's life. She didn't think she could bear that. So, no matter how much she wanted to stay in this fatherly and motherly warmth, she knew it wasn't her destination, and life wouldn't be nice enough to give her a break. *******Kaden and Lucien came to discuss the wedding and surprisingly chose the same date. When Scarlet heard about it, she immediately suspected that Lucien had chosen the same date as Kaden. The tho
Just when Scarlet thought the chaos of the day was over and ready to leave with her parents, the two alphas showed up before them, letting her know how naive she had been. Lucien greeted the old Alpha with a respectful air. Even though they were both alphas, Lucien was from the younger generation and still needed to respect the old alpha. However, Kaden just stared. He was known to be rude and unscrupulous anyway. The king also didn't care about him. Lucien grinned, seeming to have nothing to say. Kaden stepped forward. "Alpha Arthur," He called. His voice was deep and dark, filling someone with primal fear. "I'm here to demand the hand of your daughter in marriage." The air turned heavy. But Kaden didn't seem to sense it. "In exchange, my park will give yours the border territories and also supply you with a million bags of grain every two years. What do you think?" He wasn't demanding. He was making an order. The king's face darkened with anger. He held Scarlet, pulling him
Hearing Lucien's words, Scarlet's body turned slightly cold, and her instinctive reaction was to say no. However, she stopped herself. Maybe she had nothing to fear about conceiving anymore. She had been pregnant more than once in the last world, and everything had gone well. Perhaps things would be the same again. Despite the lingering fear in her heart, she looked at the alpha and smiled softly. "I guess?" It wasn't even a fact yet. Maybe Kaden didn't even want a child from her. For someone who looked down on her like Kaden and even seemed to hate her, it would be a miracle if they ever got to kiss during their two years of marriage. But Scarlet wasn't ready to give him that chance anyway. Within those two years, she would ensure that she won his heart and also complete the rest of the mission. Lucien was almost filled already. It increased every day and continued to rise even after the chaos at the wedding earlier. Scarlet reckoned it would cross the final threshold during
Scarlet's heart skipped a beat. She glanced around in fear before her eyes settled on the alpha standing before her. Her wrist ached slightly. "What do you want?" She knew it was futile to deny it. The alpha wasn't asking a question, nor was he confirming anything. He already knew and was only stating it. Hearing her question, the alpha sneered. "What do you think I want?" Scarlet was confused. Not once in her life had she been put in this situation. Even in the real world, she had always minded her business and stayed inside. This situation. This embarrassment. They made her uncomfortable, and she hated the feeling. "Say what you want, and if you don't..." She glanced at her wrist being held by the man. "Then let go." It was slightly painful. The alpha also looked at the hand. His eyes flashed subtly, and without a word, he moved back, releasing the hand. He stared at his own hand with a look of surprise on his face. Scarlet waited for him to speak. His hand slowly fell to
Scarlet's face changed, looking pitiful and sad as she took a step toward Ria. She was about to start acting when she suddenly felt two piercing gazes directed at her from a corner. Following the gazes, she saw her two eldest sisters staring at her. Their eyes were sharp, as if they were trying to pierce a hole through her to see whatever she had in mind. Scarlet felt her skin crawling. She frowned slightly. She wasn't surprised to know that her sisters knew she was behind this. Of course, they would guess it. But she still felt a slight fear in her heart when she felt their gazes on her. They were truly wicked and ruthless enough to do anything to gain the throne. Fortunately, she wasn't a pushover either. Unfortunately, she was crazy enough to do anything for the mission, too. Scarlet ignored them and returned her attention to the third princess standing before her. "Sis, why?" Her voice broke, tears streaming down her face. "I've always known that you hate me. But do you
Following her gaze, Ria looked toward the entrance and frowned when she saw a waiter being dragged in. She took a step backward, and her face paled. Shaking her head, her lips kept muttering. Scarlet laughed wickedly. Two men in black dragged the waiter forward, and they pushed him to the ground when they got to the stage. The acting woman also stepped aside, staring at the stage with confusion in her eyes. The waiter looked bruised, probably beaten on the way here. He pressed a hand on his chest and coughed roughly. "It wasn't my fault. It was Princess Ria!" He cried out. "She asked me to drug this gentleman and bring him to her room. It really wasn't my fault." He was crying pitifully. Silence fell in the hall. My brows raised slightly, and a knowing smile crossed my lips. Ria staggered forward. "Liar!" She screamed. She was starting to lose her cool. "How dare you frame me? I don't even know you. Who sent you? Who sent you to frame me?" The waiter knelt, trembling as h
Scarlet frowned as she took in her surroundings- the void around her. She realized she couldn't see anything except a vast field of clouds. "Where is this?" Mumbling, she tried moving forward, but the fear of falling tied her to a spot. Fateball rolled around, seemingly enjoying itself. "This is m
The smell of disinfectant mixed with soap hit her nose. Her eyelids trembled as she slowly opened her eyes, only to close them again when the sharp light of the room hit her eyes. She groaned, raised her hand, intending to rub her aching forehead, but a tingling pain at the back of her hand stoppe
"Scarlet, you are so beautiful!""Who would have believed that Scarlet is even more beautiful than Lyn?" "Don't even compare them. Scarlet is a real beauty.""She shouldn't have hidden her beauty for so long. People wouldn't have mocked her for being ugly.""Humph! Why does a beauty like her need
Just as Scarlet was about to think of what to reply to the alpha, the sound of footsteps and noises sounded from the door, and her brows creased. She couldn't hear what was being said clearly due to the room's soundproofing, but judging by the numerous voices, she knew it was her third sister and
