Chapter 2

Penulis: Crystal K
My eyes were glued to one photo.

Last month, Alpha_X said he wanted a new combat bracer.

[I want something that proves I belong to you, my Moon.]

[What kind of mark will let everyone know that I’m your Alpha?]

His words had made my head spin. I designed it myself: a snarling wolf, with a tiny, crescent moon sigil hidden in plain sight. "This is a queen's brand," I’d told him, my voice dripping with false confidence. "Now everyone will know you are the Alpha I've claimed."

Even more humiliating, after he sent me a picture of the finished bracer, I made him wear it… while he touched himself for me before bed.

It was a one-of-a-kind design.

[Do you still have that combat bracer I designed for you?]

I sent the text, testing the waters.

The reply was instant.

[Of course. I wear it always. It’s the only way I can feel you close to me.]

Now, I just have to find the man wearing that bracer.

I rushed to the Bloodmoon Core training grounds. It was empty.

Damn it. The Alphas were barely on campus before graduation.

Alpha_X being here today was probably a fluke.

Just as I was getting frustrated, my phone rang.

"Ava, you need to report to Blake about your trial-competition proposal," a student council member said. "He’s in the public lounge right now."

Blake?

Heir to the Stormclaw pack. One of the most famous Alphas in the Bloodmoon Core.

But it couldn’t be him.

Blake and his fated mate made a huge show of their bond on the first day of school.

Everyone in the academy knew about them.

This proposal was my other key to the Alliance. I couldn't screw it up.

I pushed open the door to the lounge with a professional attitude. The words I’d prepared died in my throat.

Blake was sitting with his back to me. He was speaking into his phone in a soft, tender voice I’d never heard before.

"My little moon, did you miss me?"

The words, meant for another, slammed into me. Little moon?

"At the mating ceremony in three days, I’m going to leave my mark on you," Blake’s voice was a low, sexy growl, full of restrained desire. "I can’t wait to be inside you, to pin you down and—"

Blood rushed to my head.

Those words… they were almost exactly what Alpha_X had said to me.

My hand gripped the doorknob until my knuckles turned white. Panic and the sick feeling of being played with gnawed at my heart.

Blake kept going. "I can’t wait, my moon. I want everyone to know you’re mine."

A girl’s shy giggle came from the other end of the line.

No. It has to be a coincidence.

Anyone can talk like that. It has to be a coincidence. Please.

Blake hung up. His face immediately went back to its usual cold, arrogant mask.

He turned and saw me. His brow furrowed.

"Ava? What are you doing standing there? Come in."

I walked in like a robot. I tried to make my voice sound normal. "Blake, this is the proposal for the graduation trials."

He took the file and scanned it quickly. "Section three's safety measures are weak. Section five has a scheduling conflict."

I just nodded, desperate to escape this suffocating room.

But as I turned to leave, something caught my eye. His wrist.

A black obsidian combat bracer. The wolf pattern was intricate. The crescent moon sigil gleamed under the light.

An exact copy of my design.

The world started to spin.

All my instincts were screaming.

It’s him.

"That bracer… it’s special," I heard myself say. My voice didn't sound like my own.

Blake puffed out his chest, showing off the bracer. "This thing? A one-of-a-kind treasure."

He stroked the crescent moon sigil, his eyes glinting with the smug satisfaction of a thief showing off stolen goods.

"What do you think? Cool, right?"

I nodded. I could barely breathe.

There was no doubt.

Blake is Alpha_X.

And the "little moon" he was just talking to... that must be his beautiful, radiant fated mate, Scarlett.

And me… I’m just his online toy.

For over a year, I thought I’d found my mate. I thought the man whispering sweet nothings to me from behind a screen was real.

What a fool I'd been. He knew how desperate I was to get into the Alliance. He watched me fight and bleed for my future, all while he hid behind a screen, turning my heart into his personal playground.

"Ava? You look terrible." Blake frowned at me. "It’s almost graduation. Don’t tell me the bonfire and this proposal are actually breaking you."

I shook my head, forcing a smile. "No. I just haven’t eaten."

I fled the lounge. I practically crawled back to my dorm.

The moment the door shut, I fell apart.

My phone was still buzzing. A message from Alpha_X… no, from Blake.

[My Moon, I’m going crazy thinking about you right now.]

[Tonight I want to see you in that white nightgown. I want to imagine tearing it off you…]

I used to get butterflies from these words.

Now they just make me sick.

He was flirting with me while planning his mating ceremony with another woman.

What am I to him?

A backup? A toy? A tool to pass the time?

Worse, I thought about how I acted with him.

My bold propositions. My shameless demands. My "queen" persona, where I thought I was in control.

He must have thought I was a joke.

A self-important Beta who thought she could tame a high-and-mighty Alpha.

Blake scrambled out of the room like he’d seen a ghost, making sure to slam the door shut behind him.We were alone.Jaxson’s arms tightened around me, pulling me hard into his embrace.I couldn’t stop crying. My trembling fingers traced the inverted moon on his chest.Fresh blood instantly stained my fingertips. As a future Alliance warrior, I knew exactly how terrifying a Lycan’s healing ability was.To fight that instinct, to rip his own flesh open again and again just to keep this wound… the pain must have been unimaginable."You're a psycho," I choked out, a mix of heartache and guilt. He grabbed my bloody hand and began to kiss my fingertips, a sick satisfaction in his golden eyes."This pain is nothing," he murmured, his voice hoarse. He greedily inhaled my scent. "As long as it proves I will always submit to you. My Moon, do you still want me?"I tilted my head up and crushed my lips to his.My wolf finally understood.Yes. He is my fated mate. That’s all that mattered. One wee

The final day of the trials. My head throbbed, a hangover mixing with the lingering chaos of last night. 'My Moon... My Queen.' The raw, desperate way Jaxson had whispered those words into my skin still echoed in my ears. I spent the entire sleepless night trying to convince myself I had hallucinated it, or worse, that he had mistaken me for someone else in the dark. The mighty Lycan king couldn't possibly be speaking to me. I had to bury that dangerous memory. I couldn't let it ruin my focus.Pushing those thoughts aside, I threw myself into the final combat trial.I pinned the last robotic wolf into the mud with my bare hands. The timer stopped.I had secured my place in the Lycan Alliance with a score so high it shattered all records.I felt no joy. I just wanted it all to be over.I grabbed the black tactical case and marched toward the Bloodmoon Core's private lounge.I had to return these expensive gloves to Jaxson. I had to cut all ties to this disgusting mess. Before I even

"Let go." I gasped for breath, pushing against his hard chest. We had just climbed out of the water, soaked to the bone. The lock that had bound us together was finally undone.I took a big step back, trying to escape the aggressive pine scent that clung to him."Your wolf craves me," Jaxson stared at me, his golden eyes swirling with a dangerous energy."You're crazy," I shot back, trying to hide the panic in my heart. "A Lycan's aura is suffocating. Put away your need for control, Leader. I just want to pass the trials and get into the Alliance."He didn't argue. He just stood there, letting the cold water drip from his sharp jaw.His eyes were locked on me, like he wanted to devour me whole. For the next two days of the trials, we didn't speak. But the terrifying synergy between us was impossible to ignore. We were like two predators, born to hunt together. In the mud-swamp escape, in the nighttime jungle hunt.It was terrifyingly perfect. A single glance from me, and he'd move to c

The first night at camp, I walked toward the wash area. A sickly-sweet laugh made my stomach turn.Scarlett was leaning against a sink, showing off a deep bite mark on her neck to a group of girls."Blake insisted on biting me this deep last night," Scarlett cooed, her fingers tracing the mark. "He said only a full claiming mark can truly join our wolf souls. Without it, all the sweet talk is fake."The girls gasped in envy.My feet stopped. My stomach churned.Right. He already has a fated mate. They were supposed to have their mating ceremony. But I couldn’t let it go.What about all the things he said to me online?"My Moon, I want to tear my heart out for you.""My wolf has no room for anyone but you."...I turned and fled from that suffocating corner. In that moment, the last bit of feeling I had for Alpha_X was crushed.Along with the custom bracer I designed, I threw it all into the trash heap of my memory. The next morning, a thick fog covered the trial camp.Today was the "Le

I stared at him, incredulous. This high-and-mighty Lycan leader, the future Chairman of the Alliance, was asking me for relationship advice? His humbled, almost pathetic look instantly reminded me of the liar who groveled behind a screen.Blake was just like this. Begging me online, but holding his fated mate in real life.A wave of humiliation and anger shot through me."Prove he's worthy?" A harsh, broken laugh escaped my lips. I met his gaze without flinching. "You Alphas are all the same. All liars. You don't deserve a second chance."Jaxson's pupils constricted.I struggled against him, even though I couldn't move an inch. "You want to know how to prove it? Use the most primitive way! Rip away all the disguises. Tear out your heart and show it to her! Don't just use empty words to play someone for a fool!"The air went still.Jaxson stared at me.A crazed, obsessive fire ignited in the depths of his golden eyes. His gaze was so hot it felt like it would burn through my soul. After

The next afternoon, my mentor called me in urgently."Ava, you need to present your graduation trial plan to the Lycan of the Bloodmoon Core," my mentor said, his tone serious. "Jaxson Wylde personally requested to see you."My blood ran cold.Jaxson Wylde. The Alpha of Alphas. The undisputed ruler of the Bloodmoon Core. The only true Lycan to walk these halls in a generation. His name was a legend, whispered with a mixture of terror and awe.More importantly, though he was graduating with us, we all knew he was the next Chairman of the Alliance. My trial scores, my very entry into the Alliance, depended on him. They say one look from him could make the strongest Alpha kneel. His wolf was so powerful it could dominate an entire pack.I'd never spoken to him. Why would he want to see me?I pushed open the conference room door. The moment I entered, the air thickened, heavy with a power that demanded submission. Jaxson sat at the head of the table, an apex predator in his natural habitat
