~ Marina's POV ~

The principal stared at me for a long, uncomfortable moment after I introduced myself as Louis Crennar and handed him the application form.

His eyes lingered on my face… searching. Measuring. Doubting. "You're the Supreme Alpha's son?" he asked slowly, suspicion dripping from every word.

"Yes, I am. How many times will I have to say it?" I snapped, forcing irritation into my voice. "If you're doubting me, why don't you call my father and ask him?"

The words left my mouth boldly.

But inside?

Inside, my heart was on its knees, begging him not to.

Please don’t call.

Please don’t call.

I had said those words just so he could believe me.

The old grey hair man grabbed the telephone to attempt to call Louis's father. My heart rose to three hundred and sixty degrees as his fingers tapped on the keypad.

He stopped and stared at me. Despite my nervousness, I slightly nodded at him, as if encouraging him to continue, but thankfully he didn't.

"The call won't be necessary," he said as he pushed the telephone aside.

Air rushed back into my lungs so violently I nearly swayed. Relief flooded through me, hot and dizzying, but I forced my expression to remain calm.

"It's a privilege to have you at Moonreign Academy this session, Louis," he continued. "You're weak, and you don't have your wolf yet, but I assure you that before the end of this academy session, you'll be strong. All you need to do is train."

Yes. I will train very hard so I can kill you all one after the other, I said in my head while smiling at him.

"In Moonreign Academy," he continued, "it's not biased. What I mean is that you'll get to share a room with a student, even if you're of higher rank. That would be okay with you, right?" he asked.

As long as that giraffe who calls himself Conrad isn't my roommate, then I'm fine with it. After all, I didn’t come here for comfort. I came for revenge.

"It won’t be a problem sharing a room with a pack wolf... sorry, I mean a wolf," I corrected smoothly. "I've been locked away for years. Sharing a room with someone feels nothing like the Citadel I grew up in."

He smiled, seeming impressed. "The rumors are really true. You have a good heart."

His words made me feel a little sorry for Louis. If he was really good, why was he murdered? Who killed him?

I knew the danger I was walking into. If the Supreme Alpha found out his son was dead and I was wearing his identity like borrowed skin…

I would not survive.

But my parents didn’t survive either.

The rogues who were slaughtered didn’t survive.

So why should I choose safety over justice?

The principal went on telling me the rules of the academy, like how curfew starts at 10 PM, that classes were three times a week, and the remaining three days were for training.

He also said breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all served at the Moonreign cafeteria and that I must be on time, otherwise, I wouldn't have anything to eat.

After his little lecture, he gave me my uniform and my room key. He told me I could find my room using the number on the key.

I left his office and dragged my feet down the building of the academy. I would've asked Dylan for help, it would have been faster finding my room, but he left after he brought me to the doorstep of the principal's office.

I scrubbed on every door until I found the room number matching the number on my key.

I opened the door and immediately entered the room. The scent hit me immediately. Rich sandalwood. Clean. Expensive. Overwhelming.

My roommate was a neat freak.

Every corner sparkled like it had been scrubbed forty times a day. The white sheets of his bed were perfectly tucked, sharp edges, not a wrinkle in sight. Even the air felt disciplined.

He was obsessed with neatness... I won't argue about that.

With a smile spreading across my face, I walked toward the other bed and lay down. The mattress embraced me softly, so different from the hard surface I’d grown used to back home.

After arranging the few clothes I brought into my wardrobe, I went into the bathroom.

I froze again.

It was even cleaner than the bedroom. Shining tiles. Dry surfaces. Not a single misplaced item. Whoever my roommate was, he deserved a trophy.

He was neater than I was, and I was supposed to be the girl.

I quickly took a bath before he arrived. I flattened my breasts tightly with the wraps, ignoring the discomfort, and slipped into my father’s clothes that now fit me perfectly.

After I applied the fragrance oil all over my body, I hid it inside my bed. My roommate wouldn't be able to find the oil.

The principal told me I could resume classes tomorrow since I arrived today. So I lay on the bed to feel the warmth, but exhaustion swallowed me whole.

I really needed sleep. I hadn't had a proper sleep after my little village was attacked.

I was enjoying the warmth of the bed, cuddling the pillow when suddenly cold water splashed my face.

The shock sliced through my body like a blade.

I jolted upright with a sharp gasp, water dripping down my face as my eyes collided with Conrad’s piercing hazel ones.

He stood with an empty container in his hand. No doubt he poured the cold water on me.

"What do you want now?" I groaned, wiping the freezing water from my eyes. My voice was rough with sleep. "I'm not following you."

My eyelids felt like they weighed a thousand pounds. I could barely force them open.

"You're not following me," he thundered, "but you did worse by entering my room!"

The last trace of sleep evaporated instantly.

My heart skipped.

"Your... your room?" I stammered, blinking rapidly.

No.

No.

No.

I had just prayed... literally prayed, that he shouldn't be my roommate.

So why…

Why is this oversized giraffe my roommate?!

"Yes," he snarled, stepping closer, towering over me. "This is my room. And I want you and your stupid self out of it this instant!"

His finger pointed toward the door like a verdict.

  • Hiding Among Alphas    Chapter 27

~ Marina's POV ~ "What are you doing? Step forward," Adolphus said to me as I hesitated to step out from where I had been standing. Conrad, being annoying as always, was already standing in the middle of the training ground, smirking deadly at me. Swallowing the thick lump of fear rising in my throat, I forced my legs to move, stepping into the center of the training ground. I glanced sideways and caught the eyes of Jaxon, Dylan, and Remo. They offered me small, encouraging smiles. I forced my lips to form a shaky replica of a smile back, but the moment my eyes locked onto Conrad's cold, hazel gaze, the facade shattered. The way he looked at me... he didn't just want to train. He wanted to break me. I forced myself to smile to prove to him that he doesn't scare me even when he scared me. "Start," Adolphus said, blowing the whistle. Before the sound could even fade, Conrad blurred. In the blink of an eye, he rushed towards me with pure rage, trying to rain heavy vengeful

  • Hiding Among Alphas    Chapter 26

~ Marina's POV ~ "What do you mean you're on a mission to protect me?" I muttered, panic surging through me even when I tried to keep a straight face. Did Jaxon know? Did he know about Louis, just like Remo did? My mind raced, spinning into a frantic tailspin. If he knew the truth, what lie could I possibly construct to save myself? "Say something, Jaxon. What do you mean by what you just said?" I pressed, my voice tight, the desperation leaking through the cracks of my composure. Jaxon stared at me for a swift, suffocating seconds, before flashing a smile at me. "You're the Supreme Alpha's son, Louis. My father used to be close to yours, that's why I always come to Dravenmoor when I was a kid... though we never met. But before I came to Moonreign Academy, my father had asked me to always protect the son of his good friend," Jaxon replied. Relief washed through me, but I didn't make it so obvious for him to see. I couldn't risk it. "Thank you." I smiled. "You're welcom

  • Hiding Among Alphas    Chapter 25

~ Marina's POV ~ "Adolphus!!!" I screamed the moment he stepped out of the classroom. I rushed after him, my heart hammering against my ribs. He didn't even bother to glance back. Panic flared in my chest, forcing me to quicken my pace until I threw myself directly into his path, blocking him. "What's the meaning of this, Louis?" he demanded, a heavy frown twisting on his forehead. "You broke your promise!" I almost snapped. "How did I break my promise?" he asked, looking so genuinely blank that it made my blood boil. "You said you weren't going to pair me with Conrad, but you did!" "I only said I was going to think about it. I never promised you anything," he replied. "But... I thought we were in the same boat. I thought we both wanted peace in Dravenmoor." I pleaded, forcing desperate sincerity into my voice— even though, deep down, I wanted nothing more than to watch them all burn. "Yes, I do." he nodded almost immediately. "Then why did you pair me with Conrad?

  • Hiding Among Alphas    Chapter 24

~ Marina's POV ` I stood in front of Adolphus's door, practicing how to smile without getting suspicious before I knocked. Last night, Dylan had told me that he was the one who always paired werewolves together for the training. And in order to make sure he doesn't pair Conrad with me, I should be extra nice to him. I had woken up very early before anyone else and took permission from the kitchen male chefs to make him yellow tea. Dylan said he liked having his yellow tea before the morning began. I had asked the kitchen chefs to teach me how it was done, and they were kind enough to have thought me... but honestly, it was because they thought I was Louis. Tomorrow was the start of the training. I needed to make sure that Adolphus doesn't pair with Conrad—but not just that. I needed to get closer to him, too, to know where the hidden underground tunnel was. My revenge plan was still intact. I just needed to take it slowly, and that meant dealing with Conrad first. "I brought yo

  • Hiding Among Alphas    Chapter 23

~ Marina's POV ~ I curled onto the bed, wrapping my arms tightly around my thighs, trying to stop the trembling. My mind was a chaotic loop, replaying the lie I had just spun to Remo. He believed me. His eyes actually showed that he believed every word I said. He was willing to be friends with me, willing to protect my secret identity. That should've been a victory. It should have made me ecstatic that I'd successfully manipulated another pack wolf... but instead, a sickening wave of guilt clawed at my chest, eating me alive. I heard the knob twisting and I knew it was Conrad. He stormed into the room. His hair clung to his forehead, his chest heaving, and his body was soaked in what looked like his own angry sweat. The suffocating, aggressive scent of his wolf flooded the room, making my throat tighten. He glared at me with pure venom. I quickly ripped my eyes away from his. "How does it feel to know how to be bullied?" he sneered, his voice dripping with malice. "How does it

  • Hiding Among Alphas    Chapter 22

~ Marina's POV ~ Heat surged through me as my trembling fingers clutched Louis's diary. My eyes ran over the lines again and again, refusing to believe what I had just read. Remo was Louis's best friend. And worse... He actually knew what Louis looked like. A cold shiver crawled down my spine. Now it all made sense. Now I know why he kept looking at me suspiciously, why he had asked if I was Louis, and why he had thrown the chair heartlessly at me. It was because he knew I wasn't Louis. Because I wasn't his best friend. If he knew from the moment I stepped foot here, why didn't he say a word to anyone? Why did he keep it all to himself? I panicked. I needed to talk to him before he lost his patience and told everyone that I wasn't the real Louis. Hurriedly, I rushed out of the room. Dylan and Dorian had come to see me, but I rushed past them before they could even say a word. I hurried toward the field. The future Alphas who had thrown things at me earlier were running laps

~ Marina's POV ~ Dylan screamed louder in panic, the raw terror in his voice yanking my attention away from Jaxon, who sat down like none of this concerned him, not even bothering to lift a finger. "Conrad, you need to stop!" I yelled at him, anger now flaring in my eyes. He slowly turned to

~ Marina’s POV ~ “Why were you asking all those questions earlier?” Dorian asked as we sat in the cafeteria, the noise of chatting wolves buzzing around us.
