CHAPTER TWO

Sophia’s POV

Before I could even take a step back, he was already in front of me.

His hand landed against the wall beside my head, not touching me, but he was  close enough to trap me completely, leaving only a narrow space between us that made it hard to breathe properly.

My heart jumped immediately, as though it had been waiting for this moment to betray me.

Five years and yet the first thing I was met with was this.

“You,” his voice came low, sharp, carrying something between anger and disbelief. “You think you can walk in here after five years and stand in front of me like nothing happened?”

I swallowed hard, forcing air into lungs that suddenly felt too tight. “I searched everywhere for you,” he continued, his eyes locked on mine without blinking. “Every place I could think of. And then you just appear here, standing in front of me like I was the one who disappeared, like I was the one who left without an explanation.”

I tried to move away again, but there was no space left for me to  escape.

My palm pressed lightly against his chest, more out of instinct than strength, trying to create even a small distance between us.

“And what exactly do you want from me?” I asked, though my voice betrayed me slightly.

He tightened his .., and for a moment it looked like he was holding back more than just anger.

“What do I want?” he repeated coldly. “Do you hear yourself right now? You vanished for five years, and now you are standing here asking me what I want.”

My chest started  rising and fell faster, fear and anger twisting together in a way I could not even separate anymore.

“Of course,” I said quietly, forcing myself to meet his eyes properly. “Of course I am the one you choose to blame. That is always easier, isn’t it?”

His expression got  shifted, something in his face faltering for a brief second as if my words had struck somewhere unexpected.

“You think this is about blame?” he asked, voice lower now, more controlled but sharper in a different way. “You disappear without a word, and I am supposed to feel nothing?”

I laughed once, but there was no sound of amusement in it.

“You are acting like I had a choice,” I said, my voice breaking slightly despite my effort to keep it steady.

That sentence seemed to catch him off guard.

For the first time, he  narrowed his eyes  slightly, as if he was trying to read something deeper in my face, something he could not immediately understand.

Before he could respond, the door behind him opened suddenly.

A small voice cut through our conversation.

“Daddy!”

We had to stop our conversation and before I knew it my entire body went cold.

Ethan turned sharply, his expression shifting instantly from anger to shock.

A little boy ran into the office without hesitation, as if he had done it many times before.

He stopped only when he reached Ethan and wrapped his arms tightly around his leg.

“I was looking for you,” the child said brightly, looking up at him with complete trust.

Ethan froze, then slowly, he bent down, his hands hovering for a second before resting lightly on the child’s shoulders.

“Willy,” he said under his breath, almost as if he was testing the name. “What are you doing here?”

The name hit me before I even understood why.

Willy? The  company name?  Willy Company?

My breath caught sharply as my eyes moved between them. The child looked completely at ease, like he belonged there more than anyone else in the room.

And Ethan… Ethan was looking at him differently now, not with confusion anymore but  with something deeper, something  protective, something  that made my chest tighten painfully.

No…

The thought formed before I could stop it, it  could not be, I took a slow step back, my hand slipping away from the wall as my strength finally gave out.

“No…” I whispered, though I did not even realize I had spoken.

Ethan looked up at me again, still holding the child gently, as if afraid he might disappear if he let go but  I could not stay there anymore, nor  with what I had just seen. Not with what I was starting to understand, I don't need to explain to him, I don't need to tell him anything, I don't need to.

I turned abruptly and walked out of the office, my steps unsteady, my heart pounding so loudly it drowned everything else out.

And I did not look back.

Chapter 99Ethan's POVThe police interrogation room was much smaller than I had expected, yet the size of the room was not what held my attention because my thoughts had remained fixed on only one thing ever since the officers placed me under arrest.Someone had planned this. The realization had settled inside my mind the moment the package was pulled from beneath the driver's seat of my car because I knew with absolute certainty that it had never belonged there.I had never touched illegal drugs in my life, and I had certainly never been careless enough to carry them in my own vehicle. The person responsible for this had not acted on impulse.Everything had been prepared before I even left to see Willy. The anonymous report. The police waiting along my route. The missing surveillance cameras.None of it was random.Someone had carefully arranged every piece of this trap before I unknowingly walked into it.The detective sitting across from me quietly closed the file in front of him

CHAPTER NINETY EightSophia's POVEver since Ethan left to see Willy, I had found myself checking my phone every few minutes without even realizing I was doing it because although I had tried to keep myself busy around the house by helping Alex and Lexa with their homework and preparing dinner for the evening, there was still a strange feeling inside my heart that refused to disappear.Perhaps it was because so many terrible things had happened recently that I no longer believed peace could last for very long.Alex and Lexa were sitting together in the living room, laughing over a cartoon that played on the television while I stood in the kitchen arranging the plates on the dining table, but every few minutes my eyes drifted toward the phone lying on the counter because Ethan had promised to call me after seeing Willy. When another fifteen minutes passed without hearing from him, I picked up my phone and dialed his number. The call continued ringing before it suddenly stopped. There w

CHAPTER NINETY Seven Ethan's POVThe address Lena had sent led me to a quiet residential neighbourhood on the edge of the city where the houses were surrounded by tall trees and long fences that kept them hidden from the busy roads, and as I slowly parked my car outside the gate, I found myself wondering whether coming alone had been the right decision because although I wanted nothing more than to see Willy, I could not completely ignore the uneasy feeling that had followed me throughout the entire drive.I stepped out of the car and walked toward the front door before pressing the doorbell, and only a few moments later the door opened to reveal Lena standing quietly in front of me with an expression that was impossible to understand because there was no trace of the anger or confidence she had once carried so proudly, leaving only a tired face that looked as though it had not known peace for a very long time."You came," she said softly as she stepped aside to allow me inside."I t

CHAPTER NINETY-THREEEthan's POVThe office had finally returned to its usual rhythm after several difficult weeks, but no amount of paperwork was enough to distract my mind because every document I signed, every report I approved and every meeting I attended only reminded me that there were still problems waiting to be solved outside those walls.Breed sat across from me with several files spread across the conference table while giving me updates about the company after the recent incident."The employees who were dismissed have all completed their exit process, Boss, and Human Resources has confirmed that every legal requirement has been followed."I gave a quiet nod before signing another document. "Good."Breed closed one file before opening another. "The investigation into Mr. Harrison's disappearance is still ongoing, although we have expanded the search area."I leaned back in my chair and slowly rubbed my forehead because the mystery surrounding my grandfather continued to tr

CHAPTER NINETY Five Sophia's POVThe house felt peaceful in a way that it had not felt for a very long time, and every time I looked around the living room and saw Alex and Lexa laughing together as though nothing terrible had ever happened, I found myself silently thanking God because there had been moments when I truly believed I would never see my daughter smile again.Ever since the kidnapping, Ethan had become even more protective of the three of us, and although he never said it aloud, I could see the determination in everything he did because he called several times during the day to make sure we were safe, he arranged additional security around the house without making a big announcement about it, and he somehow managed to make all those changes without making either of the children feel frightened or trapped. That morning, he had reluctantly gone to the office after making me promise that I would call him immediately if anything unusual happened, and I had laughed softly bef

CHAPTER NINETY-ONESophia's POVThree days had passed since Ethan was admitted to the hospital, and although the doctor insisted that he should avoid anything stressful for at least a few weeks, it quickly became obvious that convincing Ethan to rest was almost impossible because the moment he was discharged, he was already making plans as though nothing had happened.I stood in the living room watching him button the sleeve of his shirt while trying very hard not to smile. His shoulder was still bandaged beneath the neatly pressed white shirt, and every movement reminded me that his injury had not completely healed, yet he behaved as though the doctor had simply asked him to drink more water instead of warning him to take things easy.I folded my arms across my chest before shaking my head. "The doctor told you to rest, and it has not even been one full day since you left the hospital, so where exactly do you think you are going?"Ethan looked at me with a calm smile that made him lo
