THE LEAK

~~ NICCOLÒ~~

My fingers tightened around the folder until the edges bit into my palm. The paper creased under the pressure, but I barely felt it.

For a moment I just stood there, staring at the closed door.

“I’d rather die than marry you.”

She had no idea how dangerous those words were in my world. Most people who spoke to me like that didn't live long enough to regret it. Yet something about her defiance stuck to me.

Before I could shove the thoughts aside, the door opened again with a soft click.

“Boss.”

Matteo stepped in, his expression grim as he closed the door with a quiet click I felt more than heard.

I tossed the folder onto the table. The sharp slap cut through the room. “How the fuck did they find out about her?”

Matteo shut the door fully. “There’s no way they should’ve known this fast. Not unless someone inside talked.”

“Within,” I finished for him.

He nodded once.

I leaned back in the leather chair, forcing a slow breath through my nose. Control. Always control.

Panic was a luxury I couldn't afford, not with rivals already circling and a girl who had just become the biggest weakness in my house.

“Lock this place down. Every corridor. Every exit. Review the camera feeds twice. Verify all rotations. No one moves unless they’re accounted for.”

Matteo hesitated for half a second. “You think the leak is inside the house?”

“I don’t think,” I said quietly. “I know.”

He held my gaze, then nodded more solemnly. “Understood.”

A heavy pause settled between us.

“Find the traitor,” I added, my voice low and final. “Handle it personally. I don't want Lena hearing anything until I decide what she needs to know.”

“Yes, Boss.”

Matteo turned toward the door, but he paused with his hand on the handle. He angled his body so I could clearly see his face. “One more thing. Alessia’s back.”

My hand stilled on the folder. The name landed heavier than it should.

Before Matteo could say anything else, the door swung open without a knock.

“Hello, brother.”

Alessia strolled in with effortless grace — tall, composed, her light brown hair falling straight. She moved as if the mansion answered to her.

I exhaled sharply and leaned back in the chair, rubbing a hand over my jaw. “Fuck.”

She tilted her head, a faint smirk on her lips. “What? Not happy to see me?”

“Of course I am,” I replied dryly, my tone flat enough to make the words almost sarcastic. I kept my focus on her lips as she spoke, the familiar habit grounding me even in the middle of chaos.

“Hmm. Very convincing.”

Silence stretched. Her sharp eyes studied me too closely.

“So…” she said lightly, coming to stand directly in front of the desk, “I heard there’s a girl.”

My jaw tightened. “Whatever you heard is business. Don’t read into it.”

“Business,” she echoed, unconvinced. Her gaze flicked over me. “And you gave her a room in the main wing? That’s… generous for business.”

I didn’t answer. Admitting anything would only give her more ammunition.

“Oh,” she said slowly, realization dawning. A small, knowing smile curved her lips. “I see. Is she for—”

“The fuck?” I cut in sharply, my voice dropping. The chair creaked as I sat forward. “She’s not. Don’t finish that sentence.”

Alessia watched me for a long second, her expression softening just a fraction. “Then why did you bring her here, Niccolò?”

“She’s payment,” I said flatly. “Her father’s debt.”

A quiet laugh escaped her. She shook her head. “Even you don’t believe that anymore.”

“Believe whatever you want, Alessia,” I muttered, waving a hand dismissively. “It doesn’t change the facts.”

Her eyes narrowed at the dismissal, but she let it slide. “So… where is she? I want to meet her.”

“I don’t know,” I brushed it off. “Go find her yourself, if you're that curious.”

A genuine smile spread across her face. “Oh, I will.”

My grip tightened on the armrest, knuckles whitening beneath the ink on my wrist.

“Be careful with her,” I said quietly.

Alessia paused at the door and glanced back, “Careful? You’re the one who dragged her into this world, brother. You put the target on her back the moment you brought her through those gates.”

“Alessia.”

“Relax, brother.” She gave a light shrug, but her eyes held a sharper glint. “What did you think I was going to do?”

She stepped out, the door clicking shut behind her.

The room felt heavier once she was gone. I reached for my phone to check the camera feeds myself when a sharp knock sounded… urgent this time.

Matteo burst back in without waiting, the door slamming against the wall with a heavy thud. I caught the movement first, before the sound fully registered.

My head snapped toward the door, eyes locking on his face immediately. He looked pale, breathing hard, mouth already forming words.

“Boss, there's an issue.”

I stood instantly.“What now?”

“The cameras on the east wing… they’re down. Someone cut the feed ten minutes ago.” He swallowed, eyes wide. “And Lena, she’s not in her room. One of the guards just reported movement near the service stairs. But it wasn’t one of ours.”

My blood ran cold. I leaned forward slightly, keeping my gaze fixed on him as he spoke.

Before I could respond, my phone vibrated violently on the desk, the buzzing rattling against the wood.

The sudden vibration drew my eyes down first. I snatched it up, answering on speaker and angling the device carefully so I could watch the screen as well as listen.

“Who is this?

A distorted voice came through. “Tell your new little wife she has until sunrise to accept the proposal… or we hand her over to the Santoros. They’ve offered a nice price for the girl. Pay us five million by dawn and she stays with you. Refuse, and she becomes their problem. Oh, and Niccolò? We already have someone inside. Sweet dreams.”

The line went dead.

I stared at the phone, heart pounding with a rare surge of real fear.

  • His Arranged Protection   A FATHER’S WARNING

~~NICCOLÒ~~ By the time dinner finally ended, I had developed a headache. It wasn't because of the noise. Santoro family dinners had always been loud. With enough relatives gathered under one roof, silence was simply impossible. No, tonight's headache had a name. Lena. I stood near one of the windows overlooking the gardens, with a glass of whiskey in my hand as I replayed the disaster she had created at the dinner table. Out of every subject available for discussion, she had chosen Isabella Voss. Isabella. Even now, I couldn't understand what had possessed her. I had known Lena was curious. Curiosity practically defined her existence. Ever since she had discovered that photograph, I had been waiting for the inevitable questions. It had only been a matter of time. What I didn’t expect was for her to casually mention Isabella's name in front of the entire family as though she were asking about a distant relative. The woman had no survival instincts. Absolutely none

  • His Arranged Protection   WHAT EVERYONE AVOIDED

~~LENA~~The silence was not what I had expected. Actually, that wasn't entirely true.I had expected silence from Niccolò. Perhaps even from his father. I had anticipated a few uncomfortable glances, some awkward shifting in seats, or maybe someone attempting to steer the conversation in another direction. What I had not expected was for the entire table to fall completely silent. The reaction was immediate. And deeply unsettling.Forks stopped halfway to mouths. Conversations ended abruptly. Even the soft clinking of cutlery against porcelain disappeared. It felt as though I had accidentally spoken a forbidden word. For several long seconds, nobody moved. Nobody spoke nor even seemed willing to breathe too loudly. I suddenly became painfully aware that I was still smiling. The smile vanished immediately.Oh God.What had I just done? My gaze moved around the table.Several people were openly staring at me. Some looked uncomfortable. Others appeared curious. One elderly woman looked

  • His Arranged Protection   THE DINNER TRAP

~~LENA~~I had originally assumed that finding the perfect opportunity to question Niccolò would be nearly impossible. The man rarely remained in one place long enough for an uninterrupted conversation. Even when he was physically present, his mind always seemed occupied by something else. He worked constantly, disappeared without warning, and had perfected the art of avoiding discussions he did not want to have. So, when he returned home that evening and informed me that the entire household would be attending a family dinner hosted by his father, I genuinely thought I had misheard him."We're going out?" I asked, lowering the book I had been pretending to read.Niccolò loosened the cuffs of his shirt without looking at me. "We're attending a family dinner."I frowned. "A family dinner?""Yes."I stared at him suspiciously. "Voluntarily?"That finally made him look at me. "What exactly is that supposed to mean?"I folded my arms."Nothing. I just didn't know your family believed in s

  • His Arranged Protection   THE CONVERSATION

~~LENA~~ I remained seated on the floor long after I discovered the photograph. The file lay open beside me, forgotten. My entire attention was fixed on the picture in my hands. Isabella Voss. At least, she had been alive six months ago. I read the handwritten note again. And once more, because apparently my brain had decided that repetition might somehow produce a different answer. It did not. The words remained exactly the same. "Isabella Voss. Alive." I exhaled slowly. "Okay, Lena. Don't panic." Unfortunately, telling myself not to panic had never actually prevented me from panicking. Questions began piling up immediately. Who had taken the picture? Who had been tracking Isabella? Why had they hidden the photograph inside an old personnel file? And most i

  • His Arranged Protection   ALIVE...?

The name Isabella Voss stayed in my head long after I left the garden. I did not trust Marco. Not even a little. The man was charming, polite, and entirely too willing to offer information. People like that usually wanted something in return. Still, I was not exactly losing in this arrangement either. He clearly had an agenda, probably a selfish one, but I had questions, and he seemed willing to point me in the right direction. Besides, while I hated admitting it, Marco would never dare cross certain lines. Not while I was Niccolò's wife.Whatever issues existed between the two men, one thing had become clear to everyone in this house. Niccolò was not a joke. And despite all my complaints about him, he was far more decent than I had expected when this whole arrangement started. That thought alone irritated me.When I looked up again, I found Marco still watching me with quiet amus

  • His Arranged Protection   MARCO RIVA

~~LENA~~ Niccolò sucked. That was not a new discovery. I had known it for weeks. Still, that morning, the realization irritated me more than usual. My first attempt at getting closer to him had failed completely. I should have expected it. The man had the emotional availability of a locked vault. Looking back, I honestly did not know what I had expected. Perhaps gratitude, trust or a normal conversation that did not end with him either dismissing me or walking away. Instead, I had gotten neither. With a quiet sigh, I pushed the food around my plate for what felt like the hundredth time that morning. I had barely managed a few bites, and even those sat heavily in my stomach. My mind was too occupied with everything I had learned the previous night. None of it made sense, and the harder I tried to piece everything together,

  • His Arranged Protection   THE BURGUNDY DRESS

Sleep wouldn't come. Every time I closed my eyes I saw blood on the gravel, Niccolò's hand catching me and Alessia's calm face telling me my cage had been built years before I stepped into it.I gave up somewhere around eight in the morning. The window was where I ended up sitting instead, knees pu

  • His Arranged Protection   "BE MY WIFE"

~~LENA~~My body moved before I could fully think it through. I pushed myself up from the bed, heart racing, every instinct screaming at me to stay put.But I didn’t.My hand hovered over the handle for a moment. This is a bad idea.Still, I turned it.The door opened just enough for me to slip int

  • His Arranged Protection   LUXURY PRISON

~~LENA~~I was completely fucked. My hands shook as I pressed my back harder against the man behind me, my heart beating wildly.“Who… who are you?” I whispered, my voice barely holding together.A low, calm voice brushed against my ear, sending ice down my spine. “Someone who should never have bee

  • His Arranged Protection   HE FOUND ME FIRST

~~NICCOLÒ~~This wasn’t how I usually handled business. My men were paid to fetch girls, clean up messes, and make problems disappear.Yet here I was, personally driving through these filthy streets because her useless father couldn’t keep what he had promised. The front door opened before I even k
