Lyra’s POV

Aiden’s words echoed in my skull. It was heavy and dismissive. I wanted the floor to swallow me whole.

The hall was frozen. Everyone’s head turned to me. They all had disgust and shock written in their faces.

My lips parted, but I found no words to say. My chest tightened, making it hard to breathe.

“I…uhm..” My voice was cracked, breaking my words.

Aiden didn’t move, nor did he waver. His dark gaze was locked on me as he moved closer.

His hands stretched at me, “Come forward,”

He wasn’t talking about me. Was he?

“Come,” he said again, confirming I was the one he was talking about.

I stared at his hand, then I looked back at him.

Should I take it? Should I not?

My legs moved on their own. I couldn’t control them. It was like they had a mind of their own. They trembled as I moved closer to him, trembling.

Then, I placed my hand into his.

His touch sent a sudden warmth through me. I had never felt anything like it before, almost like it awakened my whole body, like my heart was set on fire. My knees felt weak at every step but I couldn’t help it.

Then, the whispers broke loose.

“This is madness…”

“She’s an omega!”

“Impossible.”

Zylia’s voice cut louder than them all. “This is madness, Alpha Aiden!” Her gown shimmered as she walked forward. She had fury written all over her face. “She is an omega. How can she be your fated mate?!”

Gasps scattered again.

“Alpha,” Beta Lucious’s voice added, low but sharp. He bowed his head but his eyes gleamed with disdain. “Forgive me, but this cannot be. The Moon Goddess would never tie you to… her.”

My stomach clenched. I wanted to shrink into the floor, vanish into shadow. My hand twitched in Aiden’s grasp, but he held firm.

Then the priestess moved forward. White robes trailed the floor, her staff clinking softly. The room silenced again.

She raised her eyes toward the chandeliers, then to Aiden. “Alpha,” she said solemnly, “before the bond is sealed, hear the words given to me.”

Aiden’s jaw tensed. “Speak.”

The priestess’s voice carried, strong and clear.

“The Alpha’s mate shall be his downfall.

Beneath the blood moon, she will betray him.

One he loves will wear the crown of ruin.”

A wave of gasps surged once again, but this time it was louder.

My chest constricted. Betray him? Crown of ruin? All eyes cut to me.

I would never do such a thing.

“No…” I whispered, shaking my head. “That’s not… I can’t…. I won’t”

My words galloped, I couldn’t get a single thing out.

“She’s the one!” someone hissed.

“The prophecy fits her.”

“Betrayal. Of course it would be her.”

“What? Do you really think a servant like her would actually stay loyal to you?”

Zylia’s eyes glittered, and she smirked faintly. “You see, Alpha? Even the Goddess warns you. She will betray you.”

Beta Lucious stepped closer. “Aiden, you must reject her. If you don’t, the prophecy will destroy us all.”

“No…” My voice came thin, desperate. “I would never….”

Aiden’s chest rose and fell hard. His hand trembled against mine. His dark eyes fixed on me, and for a moment, I could’ve sworn I saw something. It seemed like…conflict, longing, pain.

Did he… Did he really mean that?

Before I could figure it out, his face hardened. All emotions were lost.

“No,” he muttered again, but this time to himself.

“Alpha,” Lucious pressed, “save the pack. End this bond now.”

“Aiden,” Zylia whispered sweetly, “you know it’s true.”

The weight of the room pressed down on him. His grip slipped from mine. Cold shot through me like ice water.

“No,” I whispered. “Please… don’t listen to them.”

Aiden shut his eyes, jaw tight, then opened them. An inferno burned in them.

“I, Aiden Stormbane, Alpha of the Howlborne Pack…” His voice trembled just once, before it sharpened. “…reject you, Lyra Nightshade, as my mate.”

The words struck like claws ripping my chest open.

“What?” My throat burned. “No… you can’t…”

Gasps washed the hall.

“I am sorry,” Aiden said, but his gaze slid away from me.

“But you just….” My voice cracked. “You just claimed me!”

The priestess lifted her staff. “Repeat the words, girl. Release him.”

Tears stung my eyes. “I don’t… I don’t understand…”

“You must,” she snapped.

Everyone looked at me with pity, curiosity, satisfaction.

Zylia’s smirk widened.

My chest heaved. My heart shattered. Finally, broken, I whispered, “I… accept your rejection, Alpha Aiden.”

The bond tore apart, and I gasped like all air had been ripped from my lungs. Aiden turned, striding away without a second glance. Zylia glided after him, her smile like victory.

“No!” I cried, stumbling a step after him. “Please, don’t….don’t leave”

“Enough!” The priestess’s voice cracked like a whip. “Lyra Nightshade is marked by betrayal. She must be banished at once!”

“What?” My voice broke.

The situation just got worse.

“She cannot stay,” the priestess declared. “She will doom us. If she can betray the Alpha, then who are we?”

Her words drop like a bomb. Everyone’s eyes turned to me.

“I knew there was something wrong with her,” someone hissed.

Before I knew it, the guards seized me.

“No…please…I haven’t done anything,” I begged.

Beta Lucious’s cold eyes met mine. His lips curled. “You heard the prophecy. You are a traitor in waiting.”

“No!” I begged. “Please…..please, Aiden!” But he was gone.

Lucious turned to the guards. “Take her home. Let her gather what little she owns. Then cast her out before moonrise.”

The guards dragged me, whispers chasing me like daggers.

At my foster father’s house, they shoved me inside. He sat at the table, shadows across his face. His eyes met mine, disgust etched in them.

“You’ve brought nothing but shame,” he said coldly.

“Father, please…”

“Don’t call me that.” His hand slammed the table, the sound like a crack of thunder. “If the Alpha rejects you, then you are nothing. If the priestess condemns you, you are cursed.”

Tears blurred my vision. “You’re sending me away, just like that?”

“You should never have been here to begin with.” His voice was flat, final.

The guards shoved a torn bag at me. “Pack. Quickly.”

My fingers shook as I stuffed what little I had into the bag. My father did not even look at me.

When I stepped outside, the guards pulled me through the village. Neighbors watched from their doors. Whispers followed me like fire.

At the gates, Beta Lucious stood waiting, arms folded. He handed me my bag with a smirk. “Go. Do not return.”

“Please,” I begged one last time. “Let me speak to Aiden.”

Lucious’s smirk widened. “The Alpha gave no such order. This is where you belong, omen girl.”

The gate slammed shut behind me.

I stood there, staring at the wood until their boots faded. Slowly, I turned.

The path in front of me was dark, no one knew what evil lay ahead of them.

I walked. My tears blurred everything. My bag dug into my shoulder, heavy, but not as heavy as my chest.

Every step replayed his voice: first claiming me, then casting me aside.

Then, a branch snapped. I froze.

Another step crunched closer.

Someone was there in the shadows…behind me….

  • His Fear Her Becoming    Chapter 29 – The Night Breaks Early

Lyra's POVI heard it before anyone else did.Not with my ears — with the fire. It woke inside my chest like something startled from sleep, pressing outward against my ribs, urgent and directionless, the way it always did when something was wrong before the world caught up to knowing it.I was on my feet before my eyes fully opened. The camp was dark. The blood moon was still a day away, the sky above the tree line the deep, indifferent black of early morning, stars scattered and cold. Everything looked still. But the fire didn't lie."Up." I hit the side of Raven's tent as I passed it. "Get up. Now.""Lyra—""Now, Raven."I was already moving toward the northern ridge, pulling my hair back with one hand, the silver flame rising in the other without being asked. It cast the path ahead in pale light, long shadows jumping between the trees.I heard the first howl a second later. Then three more, overlapping, ragged — not a patrol signal. A warning. Then the screaming started. They came

  • His Fear Her Becoming    Chapter 28 – The Last Day

Aiden's POVShe came to the war room at dawn, exactly as she'd promised. No Nicholas trailing behind her this time. Just Lyra, her hair still damp from washing, dressed in the leathers that Raven had given her, instead of anything that belonged to the pack.I tried not to notice how well they suited her."You wanted to talk battle plans," she said, stopping at the edge of the table. Not crossing it,she kept the wood between us like a wall she'd built on purpose."I did." I cleared my throat and forced my eyes to the map instead of her face. "The scouts spotted the first of the Rogue King's forces moving through the northern pass last night. If they keep that pace, they'll reach the valley by tomorrow's dusk. Right as the blood moon rises.""Of course they will." Her mouth twisted, bitter. "He's always had a flair for theater.""You know him.""I know what twenty years of hatred does to a person who used to be an Alpha." She moved closer to the map, studying the markers Grayson had pin

  • His Fear Her Becoming    Chapter 27 – What The Fire Remembers

Lyra's POVI didn't sleep. Not because of Aiden, though his face kept surfacing in my mind no matter how many times I pushed it under. It was the bond. Even faint and frayed as it was, it pulsed against my ribs all night like a second, struggling heartbeat, and every time it stuttered, I felt it in my teeth.By the time the sky turned gray, I was already dressed and standing outside Raven's borrowed tent, watching the pack wake around me.They didn't look at me the way they used to.There was no sneering, no whispered "omega" passed between cupped hands. Now they looked at me like I was something they didn't have a name for yet. Not enemy. Not quite pack. Something standing in the doorway between both."You look like you haven't slept," Nicholas said, appearing beside me with two cups of something hot. He handed me one without asking if I wanted it, which was, I was starting to realize, simply how he loved people."I haven't.""Aiden?""The bond." I wrapped my hands around the cup,

  • His Fear Her Becoming    Chapter 26 – She Was Here

Aiden's POVShe walked out of my office without looking back."I wish you won't make my staying here harder than it already is."Her words cut deeper than any blade could.I stood there for a long moment, staring at the door she had disappeared through. The map was still spread across the table. The candles were still burning. But everything felt colder than before. She was here. Lyra was here, and yet she felt so far away. And she even came with another man.The rogue. Nicholas. The way he had stood by the door, watching me like a wolf protecting his territory. The way he had growled at me—growled—like I was the enemy.Like I was the one who didn't belong in my own pack, made me feel all sorts of emotions that I didn't like."Alpha."Grayson's voice pulled me from my thoughts. I hadn't heard him enter,I have been so distracted these days that I'm hardly aware of the presence of someone."What?""The rogues are settling in the eastern barracks. Lyra requested a tent near the training y

  • His Fear Her Becoming    Chapter 25 – The Return

Lyra's POVI made the decision to go back to Howler in the middle of the night.I laid on my cot, staring at the canvas ceiling, listening to the chatters of the people. Nicholas was somewhere nearby—I could feel him through the fragile bond we'd been building. Raven was on patrol. Sera was sleeping in a tent of her own.But Howler was dying."If you are not at Howler by then—if the pack does not have its true Luna—everyone dies."The Moon Goddess's words echoed in my head, loud enough that I couldn't shut it off even though I wanted to.I sat up on the cot"Lyra?" Nicholas's voice came from outside my tent. "You okay?""I need to go back." I said. There was silence for some time, then the tent flap opened and Nicholas stepped inside, his face shadowed in the darkness."Go back where?" He asked."Howler." I said swinging my legs over the side of the cot. "The pack needs me. The Moon Goddess said—""I don't care what the Moon Goddess said." He said with a tight voice. "You can't go back

  • His Fear Her Becoming    Chapter 24 – The Confession

Nicholas POVIt was getting dark when I found Lyra and a Lycan woman I didn't recognize, stumbling out of the treeline, half-dead, covered in blood and ash and something that looked like silver light still clinging to Lyra's skin.My heart stopped for a movement, then it started again, pounding so hard I thought my ribs would crack."Lyra!" I found my foot running towards her before I could think. As she saw me,her face crumpled. And then she was running too, closing the distance between us, crashing into my chest so hard I nearly fell backward."I thought I lost you," I whispered into her hair."You didn't." Her voice was muffled against my shirt. "I'm here. I'm okay."I held her tighter, not wanting to let go,and I was planning on doing that if the lycan woman didn't clear her throat."I'm Sera," she said, like I cared. "I helped her escape. The Rogue King is going to come looking for her. Soon."I pulled back from Lyra but didn't let go. My eyes scanned her face, her arms, her hands,f

Nicholas's POV:I was a fool.I'd told myself I wouldn't fall for her. Made a promise under the dawn sky. And then I'd gone and brushed her hair from her face like some lovesick pup.Raven was going to mock me mercilessly.Even as I walked back to my tent, my hands in my pockets and my wolf pacing

Lyra’s POVThe silver fire came easier after that night. Not always, or on command, but it wasn’t hiding from me anymore.“Again,” Raven said.
