查看更多It was winter in Los Angeles, the weather was frigid, and snow cascading comfortably down the sky.
Ivy walked through the glass door of a hospital—she was going to see a doctor. Earlier today, Ivy felt dizzy, staggered and almost fell to the floor. For that, she decided to see a doctor. She adjusted her mask as she opened the door into the doctor's office. "Hi, Doctor Collins.." She greeted the man who had a pleasant smile upon seeing her. "Please have your seat, Mrs Taylor." He muttered, his tone calm and polite. When she sat down, Dr. Collins began inquiring about her symptoms. From there, she proceeded to the lab where her blood was drawn for diagnosis. Ivy sat quietly waiting for her results and prescription. Whatever was wrong with her should not be more than fatigue, or whatever it was, she couldn't wait to get her medications and go back to her office. She had so many works back there to do. As a team leader, her desk was always choked with work. Ivy was a very diligent workaholic who didn't joke with her job, even though her husband owned the company. She worked hard like every other employee in the company. A few minutes later, Doctor Collins called her back to his office, her results were ready. Her medications must be prescribed already, it shouldn't take much time. But when she got there, doctor Collins only asked her to sit down, she sat, but instead of handing her the medications to leave, his eyes dug into hers. "Mrs Taylor, why are you stressing yourself so much in your condition?" Ivy had her forehead scrunched together. What did he mean by her condition? When doctor Collins saw the puzzled look on her face, he realized she might not know about it. "Mrs Taylor, you're two months pregnant and you must do away with anything that's giving you stress." Ivy had her mouth open wide along with her eyes. She couldn't believe her ears. "Are.. are you serious doctor?" She asked, her breath husky and her chest going up and down. Ivy had been married for over three years without a single case of miscarriage and now she was pregnant. Just how? "Yes Mrs Taylor, you're already two months into it, you have to start your antenatal care as soon as possible." Ivy's hand moved slowly to her stomach, still in disbelief. There was a life growing inside her stomach now. She thought, her face puzzled. Doctor Collins nodded, his smile widening. Strings of joy overwhelmed Ivy's heart. She was finally carrying Ryder's child. She caressed her stomach—still flat as though there was nothing in there. But a bundle of joy was growing in there. Even though she knew she had added a few pounds, she never imagined she was carrying an angel in her stomach. Her smile brightened. This was good news for her and her family. She was sure Ryder would be so happy to hear this. Although he had been mute and never questioned her for not being pregnant all these years, she knew he was concerned about it. Ryder loved her so much and for the past three years of their marriage, he had never put anyone above her. Not even his family. Not even when his sister came trying to make her feel bad for not having a child, Ryder warned her to never come back to their home again. He was protective of her and cherished her dearly. "Thank you so much Doctor, I'll have to leave now to break this great news to my husband." "Alright Mrs Taylor, make sure to start your antenatal care on time." "Thank you." With that, Ivy drifted away. She hopped into her BMW 7-series and drove off. She couldn't wait to get home and tell her husband. She walked through that elegant door of their penthouse, her face glowing and a smile plastered on her lips as she rushed in to meet Ryder. But when she got in, the house was quiet. Ryder was usually back by this time and the TV would always be on running and loud as Ryder watched football or played video games. This was his specific time, but today Ryder wasn't at home doing any of that. Ivy wondered why. Does he have extra work at the office? That wasn't possible, as Ryder always takes this time off, to enjoy his 1-hour moment before going back to any work he had. She checked the time again to be sure, but she was right, this was his leisure period. What happened? Ivy's shoulder slumped. Where had her husband gone without informing her? He often tells her if there was a change in his schedule, what was happening? Ivy decided to wait for when he'd return, she would ask when he started behaving like this. With her sullen face, she walked into her bathroom for a quick shower. When she was done, she put on her pyjamas and hopped back on the couch to put on their TV. She was going to watch the news, as a big company, its stock price was always discussed and put on the news by journalists. She doesn't often watch this, but she needed it now to keep herself busy till her husband returned. Just as Ivy put on the broadcasting station, a recap came up. In the recap, there was an elegant lady in a very flying hat, her skin flawless, and huge sunglasses plastered on her face. She exuded elegance, beside her was who she couldn't believe it was. It couldn't be her husband right? This wasn't Ryder was it? And who was the lady?Carl woke up to several glimmers of light passing through the hospital window into his eyes. He raised his head slowly and his eyes landed on Ivy where he lay. He couldn’t believe it—he had just slept off beside this lady. For years, Carl had been struggling with chronic insomnia, he hardly fell asleep even when he struggled to, even when he was given pills to sleep, he never did, but today, he slept so freely without any struggles. Gracious goodness, he wouldn't let this woman go. Even if she was pregnant and the baby belonged to someone else who was obviously neglecting her, he'd make her his, he vowed. He walked into the bathroom and brought out a warm water and a towel. He sat beside Ivy and began wiping her face very gently as though she was an egg. When he was done, he went back to the bathroom and took his shower. As he came out, his manager was already in the ward waiting for him with his tuxedo suit. He took it from him and slid into it swiftly. He had a meeting thi
‘I wouldn't be coming home tonight Ivy, Sheila fell ill again.’He wouldn't be coming home tonight? Who was this? Then it came crumbling down on his head. Ryder was the CEO of M&C he met earlier. What close relationship do they have that involved so much as not coming home tonight? Were they dating? And who was Sheila? His sister? And also, that name sounded familiar to him for some reason. Then he recalled earlier, when they got into Ryder’s office, Ivy’s expression changed into an almost crying one when she met Ryder and some girl seated in that position, he saw her painful expression but didn't read so much meaning to it. But now that he thought about it, something was not adding up. There was something hidden. Was the girl Sheila? All these questions in his head with no answers. But then, his guts and calculations had never failed him. Ivy and Ryder might be dating but he was cheating with Sheila. For some reason, the lady on Ryder’s lap earlier seemed familiar as well
Her neck dangled backward and her eyes shut closed. He stood up to her side to grab her on his shoulder. Just then, a hand grabbed his arm and sent a strong punch across his face. He staggered backward and fell to the ground, Carl rushed him and sent several other punches to his face while cursing him out. “How dare you lay your hands on her! How dare you!” he screamed as he kept punching him till he lost consciousness. Then he stood up and ran to where Ivy sat, her head now fallen on top of the table in front of her.“Ivy.. Ivy, stay with me.. Ivy..” he muttered vigorously, his voice frightened. Then he flung his phone out of his pants pocket and put a call to his manager. “Meet me at StarH now. The tables behind the bartender, away from the club.” he voiced vigorously and put back his phone. Earlier before Ivy stopped talking, he had gotten to the hub. His eyes darted around as he looked for Ivy. Then he suddenly didn't hear anything from her again, panic overwhelmed his so
Sheila paced up and down in her office. Her face contorted with anger. How dare she say she wouldn't divorce Ryder? She must divorce him by all means. She breathed angrily, plotting what to do next. No matter how Ivy persevered, Ryder must become hers once again. She jammed the door behind her and walked away. —————It was closing time and Ivy was ready to go home to shower and relax now. But it was as if she wasn't done yet as her phone just beeped and an email popped up. Requesting her to be at StarH. Her forehead creased and her eyes squinted. When she read further, it said she needed to get a document from X&Y bags. And at the end of the write up has ‘Secretary, Carl Wayne’ She wondered why anybody would want to meet there. She knew the place to be rough and a clubbing hub, with a hotel. Why should a business discussion be held there and why this time? It was already her closing time. Then, the email popped up again, asking her to be fast about it that he/she needed to
"Ivy.." He breathed. Ivy's heart beat faster, waiting for whatever he had to say. "I.. I.. I'm sorry Ivy.." Ryder muttered, his voice low and his eyes still looking everywhere except Ivy's. "Sorry? Why? I'm just working here now, how's that offensive? Ow did that offend Ivy?" Sheila muttered,
Ivy's heart thumped faster in her chest. Was this it? Getting found out this way? She balled her fist under the table, her jaw clenching harder. This b!tch Lucielle. Set to expose her now. "Ivy, is that true?" Her mother-in-law's voice came through. Ivy bit on her lower lip. Getting cringe
Ivy lay on her bed with her eyes wide open. She wondered where her husband had gone with Sheila. Figuring she couldn't deal with this alone, she decided to put in a call to Larisa. But after calling several times, Larisa never picked up. Deep sighs escaped her lungs. Larisa was an early sle
Few minutes later, Ivy came out of her bathroom, in her white robe, with a towel on her hair to dry it up. The warm bath had helped calm her nerves a bit. She sat on her skin care table, in front of her mirror, ready to spend some time on her skin. Just then, Ryder came behind her. "Hey Ivy.." h
