Chapter 3

Author: Ash Devon
I leaned back in my chair and looked at Leia with a calm expression. “Izzy reached her current position because I allowed it. Now that I do not want her there, that position belongs to you. It is easy to manage others, but technical abilities like yours are rare. The company can still function without Izzy. Without you, it is nothing. Once you sign this, you will be the one ringing the bell when the company gets listed tomorrow. There is no reason for those leeches who feed off your hard work to enjoy a comfortable life.”

Leia clutched the document as her voice trembled. “Can I really do it? Miss Sockman always says I do not have a great image and my education level is low, I…”

“If I say you can, you can.” I handed her a pen.

Leia did not take it at first. Her tears fell onto the paper. After a moment, she wiped her face and picked up the pen. The unhappiness and suffering she endured in this company gave her the strength she needed. “Thank you, Mr. Colter. I will sign them.”

She was not foolish. Leia had known for years that Izzy was too incompetent to be the one keeping the company afloat. She never expected that person to be me, the man everyone mocked for living off his wife.

“Good.” I put the documents away. “A stylist will pick you up tomorrow. Remember, you will be the CEO of Sockman Enterprise from tomorrow onward. You need to learn to walk tall with your head held high.”

The next day at noon, Izzy woke up with a horrible hangover. She called out by habit, “Water!” No one reacted. Her head throbbed, and she opened her eyes in frustration when she realized no one had prepared a hangover remedy or laid out her outfit of the day.

Her anger grew. “Are you dead, Shawn?”

Izzy ran into the bedroom barefoot. When she saw the unfamiliar surroundings, she remembered she was not at home. She was in the hotel with her lovers. She grabbed her phone to call Shawn, the nanny she took for granted, but no one picked up. She called again, and still no one answered.

“Good‑for‑nothing! Who does he think he is?” Izzy threw her phone onto the sofa.

Carter and Eugene walked out in their robes. “What is wrong, Izzy? Who made you mad so early in the morning?”

“He disappeared. That good‑for‑nothing did not prepare breakfast, and he did not bring the car over,” Izzy said through clenched teeth.

Carter laughed as he walked over and pulled her into his arms. “I thought it was something serious. Lapdogs like him need to make a fuss once in a while to remind you they exist.”

Eugene joined them. “Carter is right. Did you check your social media? I just saw someone post that they saw a man who looked like your husband shopping at a Patek Philippe store. Apparently, he bought a watch worth thousands.”

“He bought a watch?” Izzy looked surprised.

“Yes. Think about it. What else can he do if he leaves you? He probably bought it as an apology, but he is too embarrassed to admit it after what happened yesterday.”

Izzy looked pleased and even smiled. “At least he knows what is good for him. I knew he would be left with nothing if he left me. He would not dare do anything drastic.”

She picked up her phone and sent me a message:

[I will not hold last night against you because of the watch you bought. I will give it to the executive of White Mount Investments later. Stop your pitiful act and get over here with the car. I do not want to be late for the bell ringing.]

The message did not deliver.

I looked at the woman I had groomed to become the CEO. She was smart, capable, and knew when to walk away. Most importantly, she understood her place and would never be as foolish or greedy as Izzy. I was not looking to carry a burden, yet I did not mind having a loyal partner by my side.I walked toward Leia and laughed softly when I saw her eyelashes tremble. “You do not need to work that hard for me.” I wrapped my arm around her slender waist and pulled her into an embrace. “Just do your duty as Mrs. Colter, and that is enough for me.”Leia shuddered slightly. Her eyes turned red before she buried her face in my chest.…A few months later, my assistant informed me that Izzy had become unstable. After being tortured and beaten by her debtors in an underground club, she broke down mentally. Carter and Eugene did not end well either. They were thrown into prison for selling stolen goods and committing fraud.“Mr. Colter, Izzy Sockman is now homeless on the streets. She cannot ev

Shawn sat in the main seat of a forum, looking commanding yet at ease. He looked like a conqueror who controlled the fate of everyone in the room. Leia sat beside him, shining brightly as the newly appointed CEO of Sockman Enterprise.A reporter asked, “Mr. Colter, we heard that you recently completed a billion‑dollar merger. Can we know the secret to your success?”Shawn tilted his head slightly and glanced at Leia before giving a calm smile. “It is because I have someone truly capable standing by my side.”The camera zoomed in on Leia. She looked at Shawn with admiration and love in her eyes.Izzy stared at the man on the screen, the man who once belonged to her. If she had not chased after lovers and done so many foolish things, the woman sitting beside him would have been her. That billion‑dollar empire would have been handed to her on a silver plate. She could not accept that Leia, a woman she believed was fated to have nothing and die overworked at her desk, was now the CEO.

Izzy broke down at once. It was only then that she finally understood that the abilities she had been so proud of, and the confidence she had in controlling everything, were nothing but a joke in front of me. “I… I will sign the papers.”Her hands shook with fear as she picked up the pen and signed her name in a rush.I took the papers from her and passed them to the lawyer before wiping my hand with cold indifference. “Get out.”The bodyguards opened the villa doors, and Izzy was kicked out like a homeless dog. She did not have a single cent on her and was not given time to pack any clothes.Carter and Eugene ran the moment they realized things were not going their way.The door slammed shut behind Izzy with a loud bang, forming a barrier between two different worlds. Izzy stood in the cold wind, staring at the luxurious villa she once believed would belong to her forever, and she finally broke down crying.Autumn rain poured without warning, drenching her completely. She walked

Izzy sat on the sofa while she watched the lawyer in a sharp suit stand in front of her. She let out a cold laugh. She had no talent for business, yet she was not foolish when it came to money. Even she could tell from the way I ordered White Mount Investments around and transferred billions in shares to someone else that I was a multibillionaire.“Are you trying to pay me off with this lousy piece of paper? Where is Shawn? Get him here to speak to me.” Izzy tore the divorce papers and threw the pieces at the lawyer’s face. “I will sign the papers if he gives me what I deserve from his billions in assets, Sockman Enterprise’s shares, this three‑billion‑dollar villa, and everything else he owns. Give me one cent less, and I will not agree to the divorce.”Carter and Eugene, who sat beside her, nodded in agreement. “She is right. Shawn has been a useless bum who hid this from Izzy the whole time. This is marital fraud.”“If he refuses to pay, we will expose him to the media and tell

“The billion‑dollar investment for Sockman Enterprise has been transferred to the public account registered under Leia Jameson, as you instructed. You may confirm it at any time.”The entire hall fell silent when Frank addressed me as Mr. Colter.Izzy froze for two seconds before forcing out an awkward laugh. “You must be joking, Mr. Collier. Why are you calling him Mr. Colter? He is a useless man who cannot even get a job. He married into a woman’s family and lived under the Sockmans’ roof for three years. He is only lucky he looks like some random tycoon. You must have mistaken him for someone else. There is still time to fix this. You should hurry and—”Frank flung her hand away in disgust and looked at her as if she were out of her mind. He sneered. “How could I mistake someone after decades in this business? Do you have any idea of your own capabilities, Izzy Sockman? Three years ago, your twenty‑person company was close to collapse. You had no core technology, and you did not

Leia did not even glance at her, as if speaking to someone like Izzy was a waste of time. She walked straight toward me and bowed slightly. “Everything is ready for you, Mr. Colter. We can begin the bell‑ringing ceremony.”“I wondered why an employee who did not show up to work would be here pretending to be a socialite.” Izzy snapped out of her shock and looked as if she finally understood what was happening. She ignored Leia and pointed at me with ridicule.“How much did you pay her? Yesterday was only an innocent joke we played on you. You should know your place and accept it when all you do is use a woman’s money. How dare you get this nerd to ruin my big day? Have you forgotten who the boss is after getting used to leeching off a woman? Mr. Collier from White Mount Investments is here today. What is a loser like you doing pretending to be a wealthy man?”Eugene stared at Leia’s haute couture gown with a greedy glint in his eye. “That gown has to be worth tens of thousands, Izzy
