Chapter 2

Autor: Fish Cares
I had to complete the task. So, I gritted my teeth and endured everything in silence.

At last, Dad's kick sent me flying several yards. He looked down at me coldly and spat, "That's all you can take? And you think you're ready to learn how to fight? Fine. Then you can be my training dummy."

With that, he went to work on my back and limbs, wrenching every joint with practiced precision.

The agony was so intense that I broke out in a cold sweat, blood soaking into the carpet beneath me. I heard my joints pop out of place as the guests erupted into gasps and applause.

"No wonder he's a legend! Every move is perfect! He doesn't miss even when it's a real person!" one exclaimed.

When the demonstration finally ended, I lay in a pool of my own blood, and my vision blurred.

Above me, Dad straightened his clothes, nudged my face with the tip of his shoe, then said coldly, "Remember this. Don't ever think you can compete with Daniel for our affection. You're not worthy!"

At the same time, the system's notification echoed in my head.

[Condition one complete. Recovering father's gift for combat.]

Mom, on the other hand, had just wrapped up an international conference. As soon as she pushed through the door and saw me drenched in blood, she frowned.

"What happened here? Look at this mess!"

With the last of my strength, I forced the words out. "Mom… save me. Just pay to get me to a hospital."

Before I'd chosen to stay in this world, Mom had been a struggling laborer. She'd worked construction, hauled bricks, and had even sold her blood on the black market to make ends meet.

She had endured every hardship imaginable. Her hands, rough and calloused, were proof that she had done everything to keep our family afloat.

I couldn't bear to watch her work herself to the bone. Thus, I sacrificed the fate that would have made me rich and traded it for her fortune instead.

I had condemned myself to a lifetime without wealth so she could build a business empire of unimaginable riches.

Later, believing I was simply bad with money, Mom transferred every share she owned into my name without a second thought.

But of course, those assets had long since ended up in Daniel's hands.

The instant Daniel heard what I said, he put on a worried look.

"Mom, I know money isn't an issue for us, but Clifford really needs to stop spending money like there's no tomorrow. I heard he's racked up a huge gambling debt."

I glared at him before turning back to Mom.

"I never gambled. Look at me, Mom... I'm injured all over. Just give me enough money to get to the hospital."

Hesitation flashed across her face.

But Daniel shrank behind her, feigning terror. "Clifford… the way you're looking at me is scary. You know I grew up poor. I used to have to make every dollar last."

As he spoke, tears streamed down his cheeks.

Mom instinctively shielded him. "Don't cry, Dan. You're the true heir to the Sullivan name. Everything I make is yours, and no one will ever take it from you."

Daniel immediately broke into a smile. Then, he pointed at me in disgust. "But Mom, Clifford stinks. He reeks of blood! He's dirtied the place, and now he's ruined the evening."

The moment he showed the slightest displeasure, Mom—the powerful businesswoman—sprang into action.

"Don't be upset. If he's dirty, I'll have him cleaned up."

Having said that, she snapped her fingers and several workers in hazmat suits carried in a massive industrial cleaning tank.

Then, barrel after barrel of highly concentrated industrial cleaning solution was brought in, each one worth a fortune.

At last, a decontamination crew marched in, armed with pressure washers and wire brushes.

Eager to curry favor with the world's richest woman, the guests erupted into thunderous applause.

Two bodyguards tossed me into the chemical-filled tank, as if I were trash.

"Mom! Are you really going to do this to me?" I bellowed. "You once shut down an entire hospital just because I nicked my finger!"

Daniel finally died after enduring unimaginable suffering. Later, the surgeon who had once operated on me was found dead on an operating table, his chest cavity hollowed out. The cleanup crew vanished without a trace after an accident at a chemical plant. And one by one, the relatives who had kicked me while I was down lost everything. Mom and Dad spent the last of the dirty money they'd hidden away to destroy everyone who had ever hurt me. Every day, they sat beside my grave and updated me on the progress of their vengeance. "Clifford, I took care of that quack doctor. Are you happy now?""Brian Meyer, the man who hurt you, was torn apart by dogs."I drifted beside my headstone, watching the three of them become ghosts of who they'd been. But I felt nothing. After all, love that came too late was worthless. Just then, the system chimed.[Time remaining: One hour.]Dad had lost the gift that had once made him a fighter. Now, he was nothing. He returned to the cliff wher

As if by some unspoken agreement, Dad, Mom, and Naomi all returned to the Sullivan residence. In the basement, Daniel was shackled with iron chains. The system's backlash had stripped away the good looks he'd stolen from me. Now, his face was back to its original sleazy look, covered in festering sores. The moment he saw them, hope flickered in his eyes. "Dad… Mom… Naomi…" he called out. "Please, save me."Yet, Dad responded by tightening his grip on a solid steel pipe. "Don't call me 'Dad'. It makes me sick!"He staggered toward Daniel one slow step at a time, his eyes burning with murderous intent. "Brian Meyer, remember when you faked that fall down the stairs? Thanks to you, I broke Clifford's leg."Daniel shrank back in terror. "N-no… It wasn't me! It was the system…""To hell with your damn system!" Dad roared, raising the steel pipe high above his head. "All I know is that you cost my son his leg. Now, you're going to pay!"Daniel's gut-wrenching screams echoed throu

Meanwhile, Naomi's mentor arrived with a team of neurospecialists. At the sight of Naomi drooling and playing with her fingers, his face went pale. "Professor Sullivan! What happened to you?"He picked up the research notes scattered across the floor, then looked at my lifeless body on the operating table. All at once, his face turned ashen. "Quick! Get Professor Sullivan to the psychiatric ward! Seal off the scene and protect the victim's body!" he ordered. All hell broke loose in the reception hall. Dad, Mom, and Naomi were led away separately. The Sullivan family, which had once stood at the height of wealth and prestige, collapsed in a matter of minutes. In the meantime, the remaining security guards kept Daniel firmly restrained. I drifted above them and watched with cold detachment. I saw Mom sitting in the interrogation room, looking as though she'd aged ten years overnight. She gave up on defending herself entirely. Her only request was to call in every last favor

At the same time, everything started falling apart for Mom too.She reached for her phone to call an ambulance, but it suddenly began vibrating nonstop. Alert after alert from the bank and financial regulators flooded the screen. One read, "Ms. Lynch, your shares in Sullivan Group have gone into freefall after a massive short-selling attack.""Urgent notice. Your offshore account has been frozen, and assets are undergoing mandatory liquidation."Another one said, "Your credit rating has fallen to the lowest level. The current balance is -99 million dollars.""Impossible! Where's my money? What happened to my business empire?"Mom's face drained of color as she frantically tapped at the screen. However, the numbers that had once given her so much power were now nothing but red negative balances. Naomi, on the other hand, was consumed by the crushing guilt of knowing she had killed me. Then, out of nowhere, a searing pain ripped through her skull. She clutched her head and coll

[Recovery protocol fully activated.][Countdown: Ten… Nine… Eight…]My consciousness faded into darkness. Then, I became a spirit, drifting beneath the glittering crystal chandeliers of the reception hall.Meanwhile, the Sullivans were still celebrating Daniel's repaired toy. They were completely oblivious to the flatline tone coming from the vital signs monitor beside me. Daniel grinned as he toyed with the robotic dog. "Naomi, look! It's moving even faster than before!" Dad wiped the sweat from his hands and smiled. "As long as you're happy, Naomi's efforts weren't for nothing."As he spoke, he kicked my limp foot. "Clifford Sullivan! Stop playing dead!" he barked. "Get up, say sorry to Daniel, and we'll put this behind us."Frowning, Mom strode over and snapped, "That's enough. Drop the act! I've seen this kind of pity stunt before. Get up now!"She reached for my collar and tried to yank me to my feet. But my body was limp and impossibly heavy. My head dropped backwar

Realizing what Naomi was about to do, I grabbed the edge of the operating table and yelled, "Naomi! I'll die without that battery!"However, she ignored my struggle and ordered her assistants to strap me down on a wheeled operating table beside her."What are you yelling for? Don't you trust my abilities? I'm just removing a battery. You're not going to die."After that, Naomi turned to Daniel. Her voice was unusually gentle as she said, "Hang on, Dan. Once I take out the battery powering his heart, your robotic dog will be able to stay with you forever."There was no anesthesia or disinfectant. Naomi simply sliced open my bloodied chest with a laser scalpel. Cold metal pressed against my lungs while mechanical arms probed and searched inside my chest."Target located!"Naomi's voice carried the unmistakable excitement of a scientist on the verge of a breakthrough. Then, she ripped it free. In that instant, it felt as though every drop of blood in my body had frozen. As the g
