Chapter 3

Author: Heroic Thief
I stayed silent, just sitting there quietly and watching Ruth, Demi, and the others put on their show, offering only a calm smile in response.

Jacob stepped forward at that moment, clutching my hand. "I'm begging you, Flynn. Please save Tyler! He can't survive without you!"

I yanked my hand away. "You can save him yourselves if you want to. Either way, count me out!"

Tyler stared at me in disbelief. "What are you saying, Dad? Why won't you save me? I'm your son, Dad! How can you not save me?"

"I'm not the only one responsible for you, Tyler. Your mother is standing right there," I said with a calm smile. I then turned to Ruth and added, "I'm not going to save Tyler today, Ruth. You'll have to do it yourself!"

I then straightened my clothes and said, "I'll be heading off now if there's nothing else."

Ruth barked, "You'd better hold it right there! Have you completely lost your mind, Flynn, or are you having an affair? He's your own flesh and blood! How could you just let him die? How can you even say that? You've completely lost your mind!"

She then turned to the growing crowd and said, "Do you guys see this? He's Flynn Youngblood, Sales Director of Pelagic International. He's turning his back on his own son!"

Ruth exposed who I was, a move that only piqued my curiosity further. She was acting out of pure desperation. She resorted to exposing my identity since she couldn't force me to donate a kidney.

I couldn't help but wonder what her angle was. I furrowed my brow, my thoughts immediately shifting to Jacob. Why on earth was that guy sticking his nose into our family business anyway?

I was about to walk away when Ruth grabbed me. "You're not leaving until you explain everything!"

I bellowed, "I have nothing to tell you! I have a meeting today, so Tyler is all yours!"

I brushed her aside and walked away without looking back.

"You'd better get back here this instant!" Ruth roared at my retreating figure. "You'll regret this if you walk out now!"

I ignored everything and walked out of the hospital. I then sent Jacob's photo to Keith and said, "I need you to help me look into this guy, Keith."

I had died too suddenly in my past life to really think about it, but looking back, something was off with all of them. Why was Jacob so desperate to involve himself in my family issues, going as far as encouraging the bystanders to film me? That, along with Demi's behavior today, made me highly suspicious.

I headed to the office while waiting to hear back from Keith. I caught several people giving me odd looks as soon as I arrived, and when I looked back at them, they didn't even bother trying to hide it—they just openly trash-talked me right to my face.

"How can he have the nerve to show up for work? How can he be so ruthless to his own kid?"

"He's the sales director and part of the corporate elite. No wonder he's so cold-blooded!"

"I feel so sorry for that kid for having him as a father!"

I couldn't help but scowl at their comments, not expecting the news to travel so fast.

I had barely made it into my office when the CEO, Roger Livingston, called me. "I take it you've seen what's online, Flynn. You need to get your family situation sorted out, so consider yourself on leave for the next few days. You're dismissed for today."

I felt my heart sink after hearing that. After all, my role as sales director at Pelagic International was coveted by many, and with a scandal like this, I knew that if I walked out now, I'd probably return to find someone else sitting in my chair.

I was already a high-level executive and often criticized, and now that my family matters had been exposed and used as leverage, my entire career was about to be destroyed.

"I've done nothing wrong here, Mr. Livingston. I was targeted and set up in this whole situation. You can rest assured that Pelagic International won't be impacted by this. In addition—"

A commotion at the entrance interrupted me, and that was when I saw Ruth stormed through the door.

"Is this what you wanted, Flynn?" she shouted. "Tyler is dead! You bastard! You'd better come out here this instant!"

Ruth still tried to have someone else reach out to negotiate with me after Demi left, but I ignored them. She was going to face legal justice, and that was final.I showed up on the day the verdict was delivered, and as soon as she caught sight of me, she dropped straight to her knees. "I'm really sorry, Flynn!" she cried. "I wasn't in my right mind back then! Can you please forgive me? It's all on me. I'll do whatever it takes for you to forgive me, Flynn!"Ruth sure loved to drop to her knees. She had been dropping to her knees constantly ever since things went sideways with Tyler, yet she still had the nerve to pull that stunt again. She was the one who switched my baby and abandoned him to a life of misery in the countryside. She was completely delusional if she thought a bit of kneeling was going to get her off the hook.I refused to forgive her and demanded that everything be handled strictly by the book.Ruth's crimes went way beyond just switching the babies. Those inve

Now that the scandal had resurfaced, the crowd connected the dots to uncover the full truth. Soon, the internet was flooded with news of what I had been through."Oh, my God! That poor man truly had it rough! I really thought he was heartless before this!""I can't believe the wife actually swapped her son with an illegitimate one! I mean, even soap operas aren't this crazy!" "I guess justice was served. They probably only started regretting it after their illegitimate son got a terminal illness and passed away.""Flynn has been through absolute hell! I can't believe I trashed him online earlier!""I'm so glad I kept my mouth shut. I said all along that an ordinary father wouldn't be so cruel as to watch his own son become terminally ill with his own eyes.""If parents could take on their children's illnesses, pediatric wards wouldn't even exist. I mean, there isn't a father alive who could just sit there and watch his children go through that kind of pain.""How can he be so h

Those present stared at me with utter contempt, as if I were the most vile, unforgivable villain alive.I had reached out to an influencer friend of mine who had millions of followers online. I initially wanted to post the evidence myself, but I knew I didn't have the reach or influence to make an impact. I was a high-ranking executive in the company, but since I didn't use social media much, hardly anyone would have seen it if I had posted it. It would be a completely different story if it were my influencer friend who did it, though."Your true colors have finally been exposed, Ruth! I actually contacted the police before even coming here. You had an affair with Jacob 12 years ago shortly after giving birth. Then, you ended up pregnant with his child, so you decided to switch our children. "You forced my son to spend more than ten years in the countryside, living a miserable life and starving himself to skin and bones, while the love child you had with this lover of yours was l

I asked, "If I go through with a kidney donation, will it cause my health to rapidly decline and lead to fatal kidney failure?"Upon hearing that, the doctor was briefly stunned. "If you donate a kidney, there will be an impact. After all, you are missing an organ, so it is certain that the body will sustain some damage. "It, however, wouldn't be so severe as to cause kidney failure. That usually only happens due to genetic factors or if you contract uremia. If neither of those apply, you'd have to look at medication side effects."I couldn't help but feel my heart skip a beat after hearing that. I knew exactly what happened if medications were the cause. I was on a strict medication regimen in my past life after the transplant, and Ruth was the one who handled it daily. She had even sourced some traditional herbal medicine, insisting on brewing the medicine herself.I couldn't help but feel my blood run cold after realizing that I had ingested so much of her homemade concoction

I snapped, "You're out for good once you cheat, Ruth—especially since you and Jacob have been in on this together for so long! I'll never forgive you! I want a divorce, Ruth!"I then yelled toward the surrounding people, "Where are the security guards? Get these people thrown out of here right now!"It was then that the security guards rushed over and dragged Ruth and the others out of the building.Ruth refused to back down, screaming over her shoulder as she was dragged away. "You left Tyler to die, Flynn! I'm not letting this go!""Your smear tactics won't work on me, Ruth!" I tapped my phone screen, sending her a photo as I held it up. Her eyes darted around in terror. I wasn't about to sit back and let them ruin my reputation while she walked away clean. I was going to make her pay for what she did.I filled Mr. Livingston in on what had happened once they were gone, leaving him utterly shocked. "I'll be taking a three-day leave of absence, Mr. Livingston," I said. "You c

I was stunned to find out that Tyler was dead. I sprang to my feet and walked out, only to be met by a large hand swinging directly at my face. It was Demi trying to hit me.I dodged to the side as she lunged to strike me. She lost her balance from the momentum and fell to the floor, crying out in pain."How dare you do this to your mother-in-law!" Demi shrieked. "How can you be so cruel, Flynn! You killed your own son, and now you're assaulting an old woman like me! You're a subhuman piece of trash!"Ruth took in the scene and yelled furiously, "Mom!"She then glared at me with bloodshot eyes, her face twisted in fury, as though I had just committed some unforgivable, monstrous crime. She roared, "How dare you dodge her, Flynn!""Why wouldn't I dodge? Did you honestly expect me to just stand there and let her beat me up the moment she walked in here?"Jacob rushed over to help Demi, who immediately broke down crying. "You're truly a monster! Tyler is dead! He's only 12 years old
