Damien

“…Let’s pretend neither of us saw anything tonight.” She held out her coffee cup with a small smile. “Deal.” For a brief moment… The night felt strangely peaceful. Then

Buzz. My phone vibrated inside my coat pocket. I glanced at the screen. Marcus: URGENT. We found the leak.

The warmth in my expression disappeared. Business. I slipped the phone back into my pocket. Miss Bennett tilted her head. “Bad news?”

I met her curious gaze. “Something that requires my attention.” “So… you’re leaving?”

“Yes.” She frowned. You really know how to ruin a conversation.” A corner of my mouth twitched. “I don’t remember us having one.” “Oh, we were.”

“I was winning.” She rolled her eyes.  “Good night, Miss Bennett.” Without waiting for her reply, I turned and walked toward my Aston Martin.

I could feel her staring at my back. Confused. Annoyed. Some questions were better left unanswered.

Twenty-five minutes later… The private elevator opened directly into my penthouse. Marcus was already waiting. His face was unreadable.

That alone told me everything. Something had gone very wrong. A man was forced onto his knees.

His hands were tied behind his back. Blood stained the sleeve of his white office shirt. His breathing was uneven. His eyes were filled with fear.

Ethan leaned casually against the bar, slowly swirling the whiskey in his glass. For once... He wasn't smiling.

I walked past everyone without saying a word. The only sound inside the penthouse was the steady click of my shoes against the marble floor. I stopped in front of the man.

He refused to look at me. "Look at me." My voice was calm. He hesitated. Marcus grabbed his hair and forced his head up. Our eyes met. Recognition flashed across his face.

Then terror. I knew him. Daniel Brooks. Senior analyst. Finance Division. Five years with Blackwood International.

"Do you know how I built Blackwood International?" The employee stayed silent. I took another step closer.  "By trusting very few people."

A faint smile appeared on the man's bruised face. "Then enjoy that trust while it lasts, Mr Blackwood..." "What is that supposed to mean?" The man laughed weakly.

Marcus handed me a black folder. Inside were printed copies of confidential Blackwood documents. Information is worth billions."You've made a very expensive mistake." I closed the folder. "You disappoint me, Daniel."

"I... I can explain." I raised a hand. He fell silent immediately. "I don't want excuses." "I want a name." His breathing became heavier. "I don't know what you mean."

I looked at Marcus. Marcus pressed a button on the remote. The giant television switched on. Security footage. Daniel. Entering the restricted archive.

Copying files onto a flash drive. His face drained of colour. “I'll ask again." "Who sent you?" I walked closer until only a few inches separated us.

"You stole from me." "You betrayed my company." "So tell me..." "Who convinced you it was worth dying for?"

His shoulders shook. The employee cries. "They..." "They'll kill my family." I crouched until we were eye level. "Then you've chosen the wrong man to fear."

For a second... I thought he was going to speak. His lips parted. "He..." Suddenly, his body jerked violently.

Foam appeared at the corner of his mouth. Marcus moved instantly. "Sir!" Daniel collapsed onto the marble floor. Within seconds...

He stopped breathing. Marcus checked his pulse. Nothing. Ethan's expression darkened. "He poisoned himself."

I stared at the lifeless body. No anger. No surprise. Only one thought crossed my mind. This wasn't a desperate employee. This was a trained pawn.

Marcus searched Daniel's pockets. Wallet. Keys. A cheap burner phone. He handed it to me. The screen lit up by itself.

One message.

IF YOU'RE READING THIS... YOU'RE ALREADY TOO LATE.

Before anyone could react, the screen went black. Every file erased itself. Marcus cursed under his breath.

I slipped the useless phone into my pocket and walked toward the window overlooking the city. Somewhere beneath those lights... Someone had just challenged me.

A faint smile crossed my face. "Interesting." Ethan looked at me. "You know who it is?"

I kept my eyes on the skyline. "No." "But whoever they are..." "They've just declared war on Blackwood."

Lightning flashed across the sky. For the first time in years... I wasn't thinking about winning. I was wondering.

“Who dared to make the first move?”

While handing me the glass of whiskey, Etha says, "Should I start looking?" I took the glass of whiskey. "No." "Let them think they've won."

Marcus receives another call. He answers. His expression changes.

He looks at me. "Sir..." "There's been another breach."

I turn slowly. "What was taken?" Marcus hesitates. Then says: "An employee file."

I ask, "Whose?" Marcus looks down.

"Aria Bennett."

Friday. The day I had been waiting for. I stood in front of the mirror, adjusted my white blazer, and smiled. "This is it."Granny walked into my room carrying a glass of milk. "I have a feeling today is going to be your day." I hugged her tightly. "I hope so." She kissed my forehead. "Go make us proud.""I will, Granny."The bus was unusually crowded. I checked the time. 8:15 AM. Still enough time. Suddenly...BANG! The bus jerked violently before coming to a stop. Passengers screamed. The driver sighed loudly. "Everyone, please get off.""The tyre has burst." My heart dropped. "No..." I looked at my watch again. The meeting would begin in less than forty minutes. I stepped onto the road and looked around desperately. Every taxi was occupied.Meanwhile... At the Orion Convention Centre... Every seat in the conference hall was occupied. Representatives from Blackwood International sat on one side. Kingston Group occupied the other. The clients entered. Damien glanced toward the door.

ARIA"And if you ever stay out all night again, you'll have to deal with your granny's slipper, like me.”By the time I reached home, the front door flew open before I could even ring the bell. "There you are!" Granny stood with her hands on her hips."Do you know how worried I was?" I smiled sheepishly. "I'm sorry, Granny.""Sorry?" She lightly smacked my arm. "I called you twenty-three times!""I know..." "I fell asleep at the office." Granny's eyes widened. "You what?" I quickly hugged her."I'm fine." "Nothing happened." She pulled away and cupped my face. "You work to live, child." "You don't live to work."A lump formed in my throat. "I'm sorry." She sighed. "Come inside." "I made your favourite dinner." A smile finally returned to my face."You're the best." "I know," she replied proudly. "But don't think dinner means you're forgiven." I laughed for the first time that day. After dinner, exhaustion took over. Within minutes of lying on my bed... I was asleep. Completely unaware

The last thing I remembered was telling myself I'd close my eyes for "just five minutes."Apparently... Five minutes had turned into the entire night. My head rested on the conference table, surrounded by scattered files and half-empty coffee cups.A soft knock echoed through the room. No response. Damien stepped inside. His eyes slowly swept across the mess before finally settling on me."So..." A barely audible smile touched his voice. "This is where my project leader disappeared." He walked closer.A loose strand of hair had fallen across my face, hiding half of it. Without thinking... His fingers gently brushed the strand away, tucking it behind my ear.For a brief second... He looked at me quietly. His voice was little more than a whisper. "...Miss Bennett." A faint smile escaped him."Stubborn," he murmured under his breath. His eyes fell to the phone lying beside my hand. The screen lit up. Granny Calling... The call ended. A second later... It rang again. He frowned.Without w

Aria“Why did I open my mouth?” I groaned, dropping my forehead onto the conference table. “If I had just stayed quiet…”“…I’d be peacefully drinking coffee at my desk instead of chasing a hundred-million-dollar tender.”“Too late now.” Ryan burst into laughter. “I told you she’d regret it.” Lily tossed a sticky note at me. “Stop being dramatic.” “You wanted a challenge.” “Congratulations.” “You got one.”I sighed dramatically. “I should’ve let Mr. Collins present his boring PowerPoint.”Adam clutched his chest. “Don’t say that.” “I was about to fall asleep just looking at his slides.”The room erupted in laughter. Despite my complaints…A smile found its way onto my face. The city was still asleep when I arrived at Blackwood International. The lobby lights had only just been switched on. Even the security guard looked surprised to see me. “Morning, Miss Bennett.”“Morning.” I glanced at my watch.6:12 a.m.Perfect. I unlocked the project room and immediately got to work. Within an hour

ARIAIf Mondays belonged to endless emails... Tuesdays belonged to fear.Every Tuesday morning, the executives of Blackwood International gathered in the main conference room to present their weekly reports. One mistake, one poorly prepared report. And you became the topic of gossip for the rest of the week. The meeting room buzzed with quiet conversations as the selected employees settled into their seats. Most of them were senior managers. I was the youngest person in the room. I could already feel the curious glances.Lily asked amusingly, "Who's getting fired today?" Laughter rippled through the conference room. "Depends on Mr. Blackwood's mood." Someone muttered, "Pray it's not yours."At the head of the table sat Richard Collins, the Operations Manager, a man known for his sharp tongue and even sharper ego.His gaze landed on me. One eyebrow lifted. "Miss Bennett?" I nodded politely. "Yes, sir."A faint smirk appeared on his face. "I wasn't aware interns were being assigned to

ARIAThe first thing I noticed when I opened my eyes was the unusual silence. No alarm. No sound of Grandma moving around in the kitchen. For a few seconds, I simply stared at the ceiling, enjoying the rare peaceful morning. Then my eyes landed on the clock. My peaceful moment lasted exactly three seconds. "Wait..." I sat up. My eyes widened. "You're kidding me." I was late.Again.I jumped out of bed and rushed toward the bathroom, nearly tripping over my own slippers. "Great, Aria. First you embarrass yourself on a Ferris wheel, and now you're going to be late for work."Just then, my phone vibrated. Lily. The moment I answered, her voice exploded through the speaker."ARIA! ARE YOU OKAY?" I pulled the phone away from my ear. "I'm alive." "I've been calling you for twenty minutes!""My phone was on silent." "I heard you fainted! Ethan told me everything!" I froze. "Ethan?""Yes! And he also told me Mr Blackwood carried you out of the Ferris wheel like some movie hero."I closed my ey
