Chapter 2

Author: Lazy Sheep 123
The next morning, the entrance to the workshop was buzzing.

Zach had parked his rented Mercedes right out front, the trunk packed with premium cigars and other gifts. He handed them out to everyone in sight.

"Wow, Mr. Langston is so generous!"

"Hailey is so lucky to land a guy like that!"

...

The entire factory shifted overnight. Even the few coworkers who used to talk to me now avoided me like the plague.

Hailey sauntered up, pinching a $100 bill between two fingers. "Sorry, we ran out of gifts. But since you enjoyed that pasta so much yesterday, consider this a tip for a nice meal.

"After all, your boyfriend probably can't even afford a cheap value meal at a burger joint."

I didn't even look at the money; I just walked right past her to clock in. Her eyes narrowed, and she ran back to cuddle up to Zach.

A few minutes later, before I could hit the assembly line, the plant supervisor stepped into my path.

"Hailey isn't feeling well, so she's being moved to the air-conditioned quality inspection room," Patrick Langston said without even looking up from the cigarette dangling from his mouth. "You're switching with her. Report to the C-zone stamping and grinding workshop."

The surrounding workers sneered at my situation.

Zach came over, patting Patrick on the shoulder before giving me a smug look. "Broke bones need to be ground down in tough places. My uncle handpicked this spot just for you. If you can't handle it, quit."

I quietly grabbed my toolbox and walked over to C-zone.

The moment I pushed open the door, a wave of pungent dust and suffocating heat hit me. Ancient stamping machines roared; the exhaust fan was jammed on its track, screeching loudly.

After setting down my toolbox, I put on a mask, grabbed a ladder, and climbed up to the rooftop exhaust unit. Prying off the casing, I found the issue: the pulley gear was clogged with metal shavings.

"Loosen the belt one notch and use a screwdriver to wedge the tensioner's blind spot," a deep voice called out from below.

It was Lucas standing at the base of the ladder in an electrician's uniform. He held up a long-reach flathead and a 12mm box wrench—the exact tools I needed.

"Thanks." I took the tools and pried hard until the gear clicked back into place.

Then I snapped the belt back on and flipped the power switch. The exhaust fan, dead for half a month, roared back to life.

The dust cleared rapidly, and the temperature dropped. I hopped down from the ladder, taking the bottle of mineral water Lucas handed me.

We stood side by side at the machine. He adjusted the base parameters while I oiled the molds. No words were necessary; every time I reached out, he placed the exact tool I needed right into my hand.

The workshop door swung open. Zach walked in with his arm around Hailey, flanked by a few security guards. His face darkened instantly when he saw the fan running smoothly and the two of us working in perfect sync.

"Aren't you two so capable?" he snorted, letting go of Hailey and walking over to slam his hand onto the control panel. "Shut it down! Who permitted you to mess with the equipment? Today, I'm going to..."

My eyes locked onto the debt counter above his head. The moment he approached the machinery, his balance jumped from [-$8,000,000] to [-$8,050,000].

A malicious glint flashed in his eyes. He discreetly unbuckled his wristwatch and tossed it onto the vibrating edge of the conveyor belt.

It was the synchronized wail of police sirens.Shortly after, blinding headlights pierced through the workshop's thick dust curtains. Five pitch-black, armored Maybach S680s cut through the courtyard like steel beasts, roaring forward with overwhelming dominance. They ruthlessly rammed the vans aside before coming to a synchronized halt in the dead center of the stamping workshop. The car doors threw open in unison. It wasn't just a handful of men, but over 100 elite bodyguards in black suits and Bluetooth earpieces deployed in perfect formation.Beyond them, heavily armed SWAT vehicles sealed off the perimeter. The arrogant leader and his menacing mob dropped their steel pipes. Their legs gave out, and they fell to their knees, holding their heads and trembling in terror.Splitting the sea of black suits came the CEO of the state's lar

The exposure of the theft did not mark the end of the crisis.Word of Zach's asset fraud and the stolen motherboard leaked, prompting the foreign acquisition team to withdraw their letter of intent and walk out of the negotiations. When the settlement date arrived, the ticking time bomb of Zach's astronomical debts finally detonated. Several rusted vans rammed straight through the factory's shaky iron gates. The side doors slammed open, and 50 to 60 tattooed thugs armed with steel pipes and baseball bats poured into the courtyard like starving wolves.A burly man with a jagged scar across his face led the pack. With one vicious swing, he shattered the security booth's windows."Pay your debts!" he roared. "Zach Langston owes us $15,000,000! If we don't get our cash today, we're tearing this facility apart and selling it for scrap metal!"A wave of huge panic gripped the factory. The workers shrieked, scattering in every direction. Matthew locked himself inside his office, too te

The situation spiraled into chaos. The security guards rushed forward, pinning Zach and Patrick firmly to the ground.Just as the moment of reckoning unfolded, a screech suddenly rang out. "She's a fraud! Don't believe her! She's no genius!"Seeing that Zach was finished, Hailey lost her mind and desperately attempted to save her own skin. She lunged at Matthew, her hair wild as she pointed a finger at me."Sir, her name isn't even Hailey Marin! She is my roommate. She stole my identity and my photos just to catfish this broke mechanic online. She's nothing but a vicious impersonator!"The crowd, already reeling from the previous asset fraud revelation, froze yet again. Hailey spun around, staring at Lucas like her last lifeline.A manic cackle escaped her mouth. "Lucas, you idiot! Do you think you're some deeply romantic hero? You don't even realize the woman you've been coddling is a total fake! You got played like a fool, yet here you are standing up for her. How pathetic!"To

A laptop was quickly brought over.Ignoring the glares from Patrick and Zach, I plugged the data cable into the main board's spare port. My fingers flew across the keyboard, bypassing the visual OS to punch a long string of low-level command code into the system.Once I hit Enter, the paralyzed master screen flickered, and cascades of green text flooded down the black background. My tracking script flared to life, splitting the display into two screens. On the left, a real-time GPS map pinpointed a red dot at an underground recycling yard two kilometers behind the factory. On the right, a log of emails scrolled by—negotiations sent within the last 24 hours from Zach's private account to a black-market buyer.[Item: German CNC micro mainboard. Price: $2,000,000 cash. The next morning, the quiet factory grounds were shattered by the roar of a motorcade. Several corporate vans pulled up in front of the main office building. The plant head, Matthew Morrow, and the entire upper management line hurried out to welcome the guests—the elite inspection team from a foreign conglomerate preparing to invest in and acquire this factory. This was their unannounced, high-stakes audit of our production capacity; it was a critical moment that would determine the factory's fate. However, the atmosphere turned to ice the moment the foreign technical experts stepped up to the core production line. They prepared a test run for the million-dollar machinery, but the system remained dead.A glaring, blood-red warning light flashed across the master console: [Critical Error: Master Hardware Missing!]"What is the meaning of this? Where is the main control board?" Matthew stared blankly into the hollowed-out machine chassis, his face going pale.If the foreign acquisi

Cold sweat instantly soaked through Zach's expensive shirt."You stole that card!" he spluttered like a mad dog whose tail had been stepped on.He crumpled the receipt into a tight ball and pointed a frantic finger at Lucas. "You're just a loser who fixes broken scooters! How could you possibly have a card like that? Call the police! I want this thief investigated right now!"Patrick finally snapped out of his daze, his greedy eyes darting back and forth. He lunged forward and snatched the dirty bank card out of Zach's hand, clutching it tightly. The payment had gone straight into the factory's external account, which essentially functioned as the Langston family's private slush fund. Now that the money was in their trap, there was no way they were spitting it out. But if they dug too deep into where the card came from and accidentally provoked a real powerhouse, they'd be doomed."Shut up, all of you!" Patrick barked, using his managerial authority to crush the commotion. He gl
